#3 Introduction

Ever wanted to know how much damage units do to each other?  Or maybe you
didn't want to waste that fuel in fog of war just to see a 10%?  Then you can
use this guide to calculate your numbers in advance!

You can skip to certain parts by using the # and the digit listed in the
contents.  To get to Introduction, for instance, use #3.

#5 Offense Modifiers

Loss of hit points subtract damage by 10% per hit point lost
For example, a unit with 5 hit points subtracts 50% (0.5) from their attack
A unit with 8 hit points only subtracts 20% (0.8)

All COs add 10% (1.1) on attacks after they use their CO power if there is no
other modifier listed

Max adds 50% (1.5) on all direct attacks, except for Infantry and Mech units
Max subtracts 10% (0.9) on all indirect attacks
Max adds 25% (1.25) on all direct attacks, except Infantry and Mech, after he
uses Max Force

Sami adds 20% (1.2) on all Infantry and Mech attacks
Sami subtracts 10% (0.9) on all other direct attacks
Sami adds 28% (1.28) on all Infantry and Mech attacks after she uses Double
Time

Grit subtracts 20% (0.8) on all direct attacks
Grit adds 65% (1.65) on all indirect attacks after he uses Snipe Attack

Kanbei adds 20% (1.2) on all attacks
Kanbei adds 40% (1.4) instead of 20% after he uses Morale Boost

Eagle adds 15% (1.15) on all air unit attacks
Eagle subtracts 20% (0.8) on all sea unit attacks
Eagle subtracts 20% (0.8) on all attacks after he uses Lightning Strike

Drake subtracts 20% (0.8) on all air unit attacks

Sturm subtracts 20% (0.8) on all attacks
Sturm subtracts 10% (0.9) instead of 20% after he uses Meteor Strike

#6 Defense Modifiers:

Terrain reduces damage by 1% per hit point per star
For example, a Mech with 6 hit points on a mountain (4 stars) reduces damage
by 24% (0.76)
A Tank with 8 hit points on a city (3 stars) also reduces damage by 24% (0.76)

All COs reduce damage by 10% (0.9) after they use their CO power if there is
no other modifier listed

Sami reduces damage by 10% (0.9) for Infantry and Mech units
Sami reduces damage by 20% (0.8) for Infantry and Mech units after she uses
Double Time

Kanbei reduces damage by 20% (0.8) for all units
Kanbei reduces damage by 30% (0.7) instead of 20% after he uses Morale Boost

Eagle reduces damage by 10% (0.9) for all air units
Eagle increases damage by 30% (1.3) for all units after he uses Lightning
Strike

Drake adds 2 stars of terrain defense for all sea units
Drake reduces damage by 11% (0.89) for all sea units after he uses Tsunami

Sturm reduces damage by 20% (0.8) for all units
Sturm reduces damage by 30% (0.7) instead of 20% after he uses Meteor Strike

#7 Calculation Rules

First, take the base damage of the attacking unit
Then, multiply in any modifiers based on COs, terrain, HP, and powers in use
Multiply them all separately, don't add them together and multiply once
The final number, after dropping the decimal, should be the number shown on
the attack

Examples:
Max attacks with a Tank against Sami's Mech unit on a mountain (4 stars)
Initial damage is 70
Max adds 50% (1.5) to the attack
Terrain reduces damage by 40% (0.6)
Sami reduces damage by 10% (0.9)
Multiply 70 x 1.5 x 0.6 x 0.9
Answer is 56.7, so the game should show 56%

If Max's Tank had 7 HP, and Sami's Mech had 4 HP, it changes a bit
Initial damage is still 70
7 HP means only 70% attack power (0.7)
Max still adds 50% (1.5)
Terrain now reduces damage by 16% (0.84) because of the Mech's 4 HP
Sami still reduces damage by 10% (0.9)
Multiply 70 x 0.7 x 1.5 x 0.84 x 0.9
Answer is 55.566, so the game should show 55%

If we throw both CO powers into the mix (Sami used hers last turn, Max this
turn)
Initial damage 70
7 HP = 70% (0.7)
Max adds 50% (1.5) normally, and another 25% (1.25) for his CO power
Terrain 4 HP x 4 stars is 16% (0.84)
Sami reduces by 10% (0.9) and then 20% (0.8) for her CO power
Multiply 70 x 0.7 x 1.5 x 1.25 x 0.84 x 0.9 x 0.8
Answer is 55.566 (again, odd) so the game should show 55%

Multiplication order isn't important, but you need to get all the modifiers

#8 Random Notes

Sometimes the calculation is off by 1%, and I haven't figured out why yet.

Remember that this only calculates the percentage shown, not actual damage,
so using it to predict counter damage isn't always reliable.

Nell and Sonja do more or less damage respectively than the shown percentage
sometimes, but I don't have any idea how to calculate it.

Sturm in the campaign has different modifiers.  I haven't been able to test
his defense yet, but his exact offense number cannot be done because you can't
control him in the campaign.

#9 Credits

Matthew Emirzian, for his guide that helped me finish the hard campaign.
I also used his modifiers as a basis, but checked them all myself.
