1 - Introduction
Hi, I'm Tway and this is my guide for DK: King of Swing on the GBA,
King of Swing is a great new platform game from Nintendo starring the famous
Donkey Kong and many other members of the Kong family from previous games.
It uses a new innovative control method that makes getting around a lot more
fun than the average platform game. Anyway on to the guide!

Game Overview
DK: King of Swing uses a confusing at first but very easily adaptable control
method, the main idea is that each level consists of boards with Pegs on or
Pegs simply floating on their own, there are many different types and
variations of the pegs but that will be covered later, to get past levels you
need to utilize these pegs by grabbing hold of them, swinging to gain momentum
and then releasing them thus sending DK soaring ever closer to his goal.
The game itself features an easy to understand tutorial but this guide will go
through the basics anyway.
To grab hold of a Peg you first need to jump up to them, by pressing the L+R
shoulder buttons DK will leap into the air. While in the air L+R will control
DK's Left and Right hands respectively, pressing either will cause DK to grasp
and try to grab onto a peg. When DK is holding onto a Peg with one hand he
will swing either Clockwise or Anti-Clockwise depending on which hand he is
using to grab, you now have two options: by releasing the button DK will shoot
off in that direction for a short distance, or by pressing the other shoulder
button when another peg is within grabbing distance DK will latch onto both
causing him to stay still. While grabbing onto two Pegs at once you can
release the old peg and continue to swing on the new peg until you can grab a
Peg that was previously out of reach, using this method you can climb
very quickly, but more importantly safely, the scattered Pegs in levels.
DK's goal throughout the game is to reach the exit of the level, on the way
he must try to pick up Medals that are normally hidden slightly or placed in
tricky to reach locations and also Crystal Coconuts which are VERY well hidden
in Bonus Levels or obtained by defeating a specific enemy on the level.
There are 5 worlds for DK to explore and each World contains 4 Normal Levels
and 1 Boss Level making a grand total of 25 levels.
In each level there are various obstacles that block your way and different
enemies to hamper your progress. Barrels and Boxes will appear sometimes
blocking your path, to destroy them use your attack when pointing at them and
they will be smashed. Your attack will also defeat any enemies it hits, but
beware, some enemies have natural defences for example, the teeth on the
piranhas or the spines on the Bees, don't attack these areas.
For the first time DK can also survive more than one hit, he now has a
Heart meter containing three hearts, losing all three means starting the
entire level over, falling into a bottomless pit counts as losing one heart
and not as an instant game over.
As usual DK's favourite supply of food, bananas are present, in this game
bananas come in three different types, a single Banana is worth one,
small bunches are worth five and a large bunch is worth ten, they can be
used for one of two things:
'Banana Heal' - If you have ten bananas you can press B to activate
Banana Heal, this will heal one of DK's three Hearts. Always be sure to try
and heal if you only have one heart left. This move is quite cheap and is the
main reason you'll want to stock as many bananas as possible.
'Go Bananas!' - If you have twenty bananas you can press A to make DK
Go Bananas, in this form he will flash and be temporarily invulnerable
(he can still fall into bottomless pits though), in this mode he also has
increased jump distance, attack distance, attack power and speed. This mode
should be used sparingly as twenty bananas could instead be used to heal two
hearts bringing you back from certain death. In this form DK will smash through
objects and continue going as opposed to bouncing back after hitting something.
You can decide which of these abilities is a better use for your bananas by
experimenting yourself. The Banana counter at the bottom right of your screen
will tell you how many Bananas you have left, the maximum you can carry are
three large crates, that's 300 Bananas.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 - Adventure Walkthrough
After choosing Adventure mode you are treated to a short cut scene featuring
DK and Cranky discussing the Competition they are going to hold soon, they
decide to store the prize Medals somewhere safe before the competition starts
but before they can King K. Rool appears in a flying machine and steals all
the medals. DK decides to go after King K. Rool and retrieve the Medals so
the competition can be held.
After a short tutorial where Cranky Kong gives you instructions
(take advantage of this to get used to the new control method)
you are bought to the world map which shows King K. Rool escaping and
dropping several of the medals into various locations, welcome to...
2.1
World 1 - Jungle World
Lets get going then, no time to waste! Off to...
Level 1 - Banana Bungalow
The first Area in this Level contains no dangers at all, simply a lot of space
to practice swinging and some bananas to collect. Once you've got the bananas
and you feel confident with the control system follow the arrow to the next
area (the arrow is your goal in each area, in the last area the sign will say
exit instead of an arrow)
The next area features some single Pegs that can be slightly trickier to
grab onto when in flight so practice, then continue to climb and meet the first
enemy, a Dragonfly. To kill it simply grab two Pegs, aim DK at it and hold
the shoulder buttons until DK flashes, when in range release them to send DK
hurling towards the enemy and send it flying, rewarding you with your first
Crystal Coconut! Trust me though, they get a LOT harder to find than this,
this was a freebie. Continue up to the exit sign to finish your first Level.
(If you didn't notice in the short movie King K. Rool did NOT drop a Medal here
all there is to collect is that Crystal Coconut)
Level 1 - COMPLETE!
After you complete the first Level in a Map, all but the last Map, TWO new
levels will open up so there is a slight freedom of choice to completing the
levels.
**For reference this guide will complete the levels in order of difficulty**
Level 2 - Tropical Treetops
The first area is quite similar to the last area of Level 1, it features an
upward climb which isn't very difficult, there are two Dragonflies to defeat
but they travel on a set pattern and should be easy targets.
Continue to the next area.
This area features a Dragonfly to defeat and a few new additions also, first
you notice some single pegs that are rotating, if you grab one or two you can
travel with them upward, secondly there are floating Tyres, these work
similar to classic DK games in that they bounce you off in the opposite
direction as to where you hit them, basically jump on them to get shot higher
up but hitting them from the side will rocket you back in the direction you
came from. Lastly in the top left corner of this area you will see a Giant
Barrel with a huge 'B' on it, this will take you to your first...
***BONUS AREA***
(Bonus areas are TIME LIMIT areas in which you must collect ALL the bananas to
win a prize.)
This Bonus area is quite simple and requires you to use basic climbing skills
to collect the Bananas, be wary of the time limit as you have to collect all
the Bananas and when the prize appears collect it before time runs out.
The Prize is a Crystal Coconut. When time is up or you follow the arrow you
will end up back where the 'B' Barrel was, so continue on.
The next area gets a little difficult, it's a straight foreword upward climb
but there are now multiple enemies blocking your path, use the usual strategy
of waiting nearby until they are in your line of fire then striking. About
half way up is a tricky section with moving Peg boards and three Dragonflies,
time your attacks to take them out then continue up. Just before you jump over
to the exit you may notice a single Barrel at the top of the screen, grab the
Peg board below it and Attack upwards, smashing the Barrel to reveal your
first Medal! This one is Bronze, there are also Silver and Gold to collect.
With the Medal in your possession simply exit to the right to finish Level 2.
Level 2 - COMPLETE!
Back on the Map Level 4 will now open, but first go check out Level 3...
Level 3 - Contraption Cave
At the start of this Area are two new types of Enemy, first the Rat type,
they're faster than Dragonflies but they only move on Peg boards so are
an easy target, just don't get in their movement pattern. A little above is the
second new type a Kremling!, they act a lot like DK in that they swing
from Peg to Peg so time your strike carefully. Further up are more Kremlings
that are jumping around, attack them and move on to the next area.
Immediately in this area is a giant switch, grab these switches with both
hands and wait for them to activate, which makes three useful Peg boards
appear in this case, then attack to destroy the Barrel and continue to climb.
Pull all the switches to create more Peg boards to continue further.
At the top grab the high switch to make another higher Peg board appear,
grab that and with some nifty jumping reach the 'B' Barrel...
***BONUS AREA***
For this Bonus area bring lots of Bananas, as when in 'Go Bananas' form
DK can smash multiple Barrels at once making this a possible bonus, try to
stand half under one line of Barrels and half under another, you will take out
two lines at once this way. If you can get all the Bananas you will win another
Crystal Coconut!
After the Bonus area you return to where you came from, so go right into the
next area.
This Area features another new enemy and a new device, the Enemy is a Bat,
there are several of them but they move very little and can probably be dodged,
the other strange device is a Handle, what hand you grab it with determines
what way it will travel. Just experiment until you can control them with ease.
Near the top is a Barrel, smash it to get another Bronze Medal.
The exit is just to the right so get there and you're done with Level 3.
Level 3 - COMPLETE!
Completing Level 3 wont unlock anything new but you still have a new level to
explore...
Level 4 - Puzzling Pyramid
At the start of this level is a cog that controls the roof above, spin it to
make a gap in the middle then jump through and onwards, there is another cog
here that makes a Peg board slide in, reel it in then carry on up to the
next area.
Straight away is yet another cog except this one rotates a nearby set of
single Pegs, use them to collect the Bananas then aim them up and swing onto
them to reach the next cog which controls a separate set of single pegs,
spin that cog to collect the bananas while also killing the Dragonfly on left
because it holds a Crystal Coconut! (If you fall to the ground while these
Pegs are aiming up and have no way of getting back to the cog, just wait
and they will reset back to their original position.)
Continue to the next area at the top.
This area contains a rather tricky device, but the best idea is to watch
how the Kremling does it before you kill it. You already killed it?
Here is exactly how to work the lever.
Grab the Yellow part in the middle with DK's LEFT hand, thats your L button.
Then while swinging around grab the Yellow part on the end of the stick with
DK's RIGHT hand, your R button.
Hold L down and press R to pull the lever down again and again.
When the large Walls wont go any farther make a dash for it, in the Barrel
at the top is a Silver Medal, and nearby the Exit, well done!
Level 4 - COMPLETE!
Completing all 4 Levels in a Map reveals, the Boss Level!
Boss 1 - Congazuma's Castle
This Boss is a nice easy ride and shouldnt pose much trouble at all.
You have to hit him 4 times, first stay on the Peg boards at all times,
wait for him to get in range then launch an Attack, he will take damage
and flash red, then jump around a lot faster. You cant hit him now so
just dodge up the top of the screen and wait for him to calm down.
Repeat this 3 more times and you win the fight and a Gold Medal!
Congratulations!
Boss 1 - DEFEATED!
With the Boss beaten and thanks to this guide, all Medals and Crystal Coconuts
collected you can now move onto...
2.2
World 2 - Wild West World
Welcome to Wild West World, two levels again are open for you so you can pick
which to do first but difficulty wise you might want to pick...
Level 5 - Necky's Canyon
At the start of this Level is a giant cracked wall blocking your path along
with a single peg that is near two rocks, these rocks are one of DK's more
common items to wield and attack with, rocks can break Barrels, kill Enemies
and break barriers such as the wall in front of you. So first grab the peg
with one hand, then grab a rock with the other DK will swing holding the rock
and you should release the button you used to pick up the rock when aiming at
the wall, the rocks constantly regenerate and are found in many levels from
here on in, so practice with them, get good and you can clear entire paths
above you to make your trip safer. After making a gap jump through it and
carry on to the next Area.
This area is a straight up climb with lots of Bananas to collect and more
rocks to throw, use them to easily defeat the Vultures that are flying around,
these Vultures should cause no problems but later on Vultures can spit rocks
at you so dont take them too lightly. Continue to the next area at the top.
This next Area is quite large and made harder to navigate by the rock spitting
Vultures. Also two new items are here, first are collapsing pegs, recognisable
by the fact that they shake and appear cracked, after grabbing on for a short
while they will fall for a second then disintegrate completely, try to move
quickly. In the bottom right corner of the screen is a Booster Barrel, make
your way there making sure to smash the single Barrel guarded by a Vulture as
it contains your Medal for this Level, then jump in the Booster Barrel, you can
now fly around the Area! Use this new ability to grab the Medal, but before you
exit the Level, grab a rock as normal while flying in the Barrel, and fly to
the top left of the screen, release the rock while flying at the Barrel to
break it open and reveal... a Crystal Coconut! Grab it and then follow the
nearby Bananas to the Exit.
Level 5 - COMPLETE!
Back on the World Map Treacherous Twister should now be open but first you
should go back to...
Level 6 - Cactus Woods
This starting Area is very basic, nothing you havnt done before, so reach the
top and jump in the 'B' Barrel to get to a
***BONUS AREA***
This is an easy Bonus Level, just fling yourself in the Tyre maze and use Left
and Right on the D-Pad to steer towards the Bananas, after you get them all
you earn another Cystal Coconut!
You land back where you got in the 'B' Barrel so leave this area to the right.
This area features some Spiked walls so be careful where you swing, it also
features a new Enemy, a Bee. There are several Bees here and they are only
vulnerable when facing you, their spikes guard them from Attacks from behind
or below, so time your Attacks. Make a detour downwards at your first chance
to smash a Barrel and grab you Medal, then carry on going right past the Bees
to the next Area.
This Area is a straight up climb with nothing special to mention other than
the introduction of Beetle Enemies, they are protected from frontal attacks
and will follow you but they have slow turning circles, so get them in a spin
and then Attack from behind. The Exit is in the top right corner.
Level 6 - COMPLETE!
Completeing Level 6 will open up the last normal Level in this Area, but first
head to that giant tornado to enter...
Level 7 - Treacherous Twister
This Level is inside a giant Twister! You may notice that when you jump you
will be blown way off course by the winds, the only advice available is to
make small careful jumps, as if you fall off the left side of the screen you
will float past the background and come out of the right side only a LOT
farther down and the bottomless pits at the bottom of this Level make that a
very bad thing. Make your way to the top of this Area and if your confident,
try to swing over to the Barrel that is on its own and smash it reveal a
Crystal Coconut to collect, jump in the larger Barrel above to go to the next
area of this Level.
This next area features spinning sets of Pegs, which are made even deadlier
due to the winds, which have now switched sides meaning you will be blown to
the right of the screen. Try to grab one of the spinning Pegs and ride it
around to the next set of Pegs to ease your journey, further up are two paths:
one which has lots of spinning Pegs and lots of Bananas, the other has no
Bananas but has Peg boards that are only slightly moving, go the Peg board
path, unless you want all those Bananas, as its easier. At the top you need
to grab the final set of spinning Pegs and ride them until you hit that Medal
and grab it, then swing off them and up to the Exit.
Level 7 - COMPLETE!
The only Level you can access now is...
Level 8 - Madcap Mine
In this Area are more Bats, that will sometimes block your path so try to deal
with them and Levers attatched to rails which can be worked using the same
method used to work the levers in Puzzling Pyramid. When you reach the top,
leave this Area and go to the next.
This area is very small but introduces conveyer belt type Pegs, they can be
grabbed onto and swung on but you will slowly move in the direction they move
unless you keep swinging, when you have killed the Enemies you can continue
to the next area.
Here is another Lever that controls yet another device, but works exactly the
same as all the other Levers, pulling it will make Peg boards appear which you
will need to continue, so pull it until they are at maximum size as, after you
stop pulling they will shrink and disappear. Travel up to the next Lever and
pull it fully as you will need to smash a Barrel that is only reachable when
the Peg boards are there, inside is your Medal! Continue up and swing the last
Lever until a small Pegboard appears above you, not the two larger ones, they
only lead to Bananas. Grab onto the smaller one as it travels back up with you
on it, then swing into the 'B' Barrel for the...
***BONUS AREA***
This Bonus area is easy enough and simply requires you to rush up as fast as
you can grabbing every Banana, the Peg boards near the top are smaller so time
your button presses well, you will win a Crystal Coconut!
When your back in the Level, just jump to the right to finish.
Level 8 - COMPLETE!
Now you can finally face your second Boss Level, but watch out, your in for a
rough time in...
Boss 2 - Fire Necky's Nest
This Boss is a Giant Fire Necky, he swoops around a lot, so to begin with stay
on the ground dodging left and right, when he starts firing balls of flame
dodge them until the solidify into Rocks, make a dash for the Pegs near the
rocks so you can grab one of them and fling it back at Fire Necky. After you've
used them all, dodge until he fires again and repeats until he goes down.
Grab your Gold Medal and your done!
Boss 2 - DEFEATED!
With this guide you should have fully completed World 2, now the path to the
next world will open, so lets get going to...
2.3
World 3 - Aqua World
Welcome to Aqua World, there are another two Levels for you to explore so pick
one or follow this guide and go straight to...
Level 9 - Risky Reef
This Level is set underwater so you may notice that DK is slowed down a lot,
but with the extra momentum you may find yourself swinging a bit further than
usual, just get used to the controls and swinging on the Pegs shaped like
Seaweed. In this Area there are two new Enemies to face and they are piranhas,
they swim from side to side but if you get in their line of vision they will
charge straight at you, you should try to hit them anywhere but their mouth,
they are quite hard to defeat so you may just want to try and dodge them.
At the very top of the Level before leaving you should try to reach the 'B'
Barrel to get to a...
***BONUS AREA***
This Bonus Area is quite short but may cause some trouble if your not used to
the underwater movement yet, just use the slow movement to your advantage and
time your grabs to reach the finish, your reward is another Crystal Coconut!
Back to where you came in, you can now leave this Area to the right.
This next Area features another new Enemy, Starfish. There are several Starfish
here and they simply float around bouncing off walls, so their movement
patterns are not easy to follow, despite looking spiky they have no natural
defences so simply attack them when in range. There are lots of Bananas to get
from smashing Barrels here so grab them and then move to the next Area at the
top.
This Area is HUGE, there are lots of piranhas and many bottomless pits if you
fall, just explore this Area as you can really go around it anyway you like,
however here are some things to note. The Barrels with Question marks need to
be broke by an Attack, they will then reveal a Peg board for you normally.
The Medal for this Level is in this area, to get it Attack the ? Barrel to the
left of the giant rotating Peg ring, this will reveal a line of single Pegs
which can be followed straight to the Barrel containing the Medal. Smashing the
? Barrel in the lower right corner of the Area makes a Peg board appear, use
this to Attack the wall and destroy it, then jump into the Barrel to earn an
easy twenty Bananas. To reach the Exit simply Smash the the ? Barrel that is
to the top right of the giant rotating Peg ring, this makes Pegs appear that
you need to reach the Exit.
Level 9 - COMPLETE!
Back on the World Map the next Level will open up, but first as usual we will
go back to...
Level 10 - LockJaw Falls
Back on dry land, sort of, means the controls are back to normal and wont feel
as sluggish. First of this are features straight up climb which is only
slightly made difficult by the jumping piranhas that inhabit this Area, they
are the same as the ones under the sea but they will only attack by jumping
across the screen every few seconds, water bursts can be seen at the edges of
the screen to let you know if one is nearby. Thankfully the Pegs in this Area
are mostly lined up to Attack the piranhas and stay out of their way whcih is
very useful, once they are all gone climb to the top and to the next Area.
This next Area you will most likely either find a lot of fun or a real pain,
either way you need to get past so wait a second after you enter the Level
until all three of the Peg 'Waterfalls' start to appear, then climb up them.
dont spend too much time swinging obviously otherwise you want get anywhere,
good use of the Peg boards and timed grabs are the key to reaching the top.
However reaching the top is not your main concern as you may have noticed the
three Bee enemies flying around, well the one on the right side is holding your
Crystal Coconut for this Level. Killing this Bee is very tricky though, you
need to grab the Peg waterfall on the right nearest the Bee at the very top,
quickly try to grab another Peg from the same waterfall so you should be aiming
straight to the right, at the Bee. When you are in line with him, your Attack
should be charged so simply release to smack him and grab your Crystal Coconut!
Phew, after that you just need to get to the top and on to the next Area.
At the start of this Area you will notice a strange coloured rotating Peg, try
grabbing it with your right hand (the R button) and you can see DK moves
incredibly slow and only gets a tiny swing from it, try grabbing it with your
left hand (the L button) though and watch as DK rockets around and when
released goes soaring off in that direction, the key is to grab them with the
whichever hand matches the way it rotates, if the Peg is going anti-clockwise
grab it with your left, if its clockwise grab it with your right. For ease of
use the order to grab the Pegs in, starting with the very first one you see, is
Left, Left, Right, Right, Right. Just dont forget to time your jumps to dodge
the piranhas that work the same as they did in the first Area of this Level.
Finally make sure you get a good straight up jump from the last spinning Peg
as you need one to reach a very high up Peg board that is protected by one
piranha but is next to a Barrel that holds your Medal, simply grab the very
bottom of the Peg board when you reach it and charge an Attack for when the
piranha appears, deal with it then collect your medal and drop off to the
right to land on the Exit.
Level 10 - COMPLETE!
The last Level on this Map now opens and as usual we will be going back a step
to tackle...
Level 11 - Kremling Kamp
This first Area is quite simple, you just smash Barrels to continue on your
path to the top, just pause to take of the spinning Kremlings, and make sure
to reach the top left corner of the Area and jump in the 'B' Barrel to go to...
***BONUS AREA***
This Bonus Are is actually quite hard, once again the spinning Pegs are back
(and they are all right hand ones). There isnt much help to offer with this,
just make sure to release at the peak of the swing to reach maximum height and
try to get more than one line of Bananas at once. The Crystal Coconut will
appear in the VERY top right corner, make a huge swing to reach it and finish
the Bonus Area.
If you managed to do that well done, go to the right of this Area to get to the
next one.
This area gives you rocks to play with again, so grab them and start throwing
them at Enemies and Barrels to clear a path up. Halfway up time your rock
throw to hit the ? Barrel guarded by two sets of floating Spikes. When you've
done that a nice path to the next area will open and you can go straight to it.
This last area features moving Peg boards, Bats and Kremlings. Make your way
up dodging or Attacking all of the Enemies, if you fall use the Tyres if you
can to bounce back up. A flying leap through to Spiked Balls at the top of the
screen will earn you your Medal for this Level and the Exit should be right
next to you.
Level 11 - COMPLETE!
Back on the World Map and now the only Level left to complete here is...
Level 12 - Ship of Souls
This first Area features Cannons that are firing continuous lines of Pegs, so
use them to get to the right and the way to the next Area.
This Area is full of a new type of Enemy, Ghosts. They will charge straight at
you when they see you but if you aim at them they turn all but invisible (their
outline is still visible) however for some bizarre reason this works to YOUR
advantage as they cant hurt you in this form but you can still Attack, just
be careful not to get surrounded and you will defeat them all easily. There are
also many Boxes in this Area, make sure to smash them all as one towards the
end of this Area contains your Crystal Coconut, smash the last two Boxes to
open up the path to the next Area.
This last Area has one single Ghostly looking Peg near you when you begin,
grab it and you will see several move surround you in a honeycomb pattern. If
you then grab one of those the honeycomb pattern moves to surround that one
and so on, continue to grab (no swinging, letting go is pointless as new Pegs
wont appear) and try to move towards the upper left corner which is where your
Medal is, after that make your way to the upper right to find the exit, be
careful of the Ghost here also. If you fall by accident wait on the ground and
the Ghost Peg will appear back there. Hit the Exit to finish the Level.
Level 12 - COMPLETE!
The Boss now appears so lets take him on in...
Boss 3 - Davy Bones' Locker
This Boss will appear swimming from hole to hole at first, so you get jump up
to the Peg board straight away and try to stay away from the walls as they are
covered in Spikes, but they will be used later. First wait until the Boss
appears out of one of the holes he will aim towards you so get ready to dodge
as soon as he lunges at you, if he misses he will slowly swim around the stage,
which is your chance to give him an Attack which will stun him, try to do this
at the top of the stage so he doesnt hit the floor straight away. Now you may
have already noticed the Peg like Tail that this Boss has, well when he is
stunned from an Attack (he turns Dark Blue coloured) swing over and grab his
Peg Tail with one Hand, DONT let go of this Button, after your grabbed on you
will drag him behind you. Now is the time to use those Spiked walls, so swing
up to the top left or top right corner, using only your free hand remember,
then just swing as you would when swinging normally, you should drag the Boss
and cause him to smack into the Spiked walls several times in one swing
hopefully. After a while he will recover and swim away, so repeat this process
until he is gone for good and grab your Medal, Well done!
Boss 3 - DEFEATED!
After beating Boss 3 you should now be able to have say goodbye to Aqua world,
having completed it 100%. So lets move on to the new World...
2.4
World 4 - Ice World
Welcome to Ice World, there are two levels open again so lets first go to...
Level 13 - Cold Cold Forest
Work your way up the single Pegs in this starting Area, while attacking the
Vultures flying around you with the rocks scattered about, watch out for the
spitting Vultures as you climb, the next Area is at the top.
In this Area there are Barrels with a rotating arrow symbol on them, if you
jump in you can aim them your direction with L and R, then shoot out by
pressing them together, the same way you attack. This is useful for smashing
Vultures or Barrels open. Hit the ? Barrel to make a Peg board appear near the
end and use it to swing up, break open the Barrel and grab your Medal. Leave
this Area and go to the next.
This Area is pretty big, first of all try to get to the top of the huge pile of
single Pegs, not hitting the Tyres as they will bounce you off course. When you
reach a point where you can see a lot of Barrels everywhere, dont get in them.
The Barrels will just shoot you back down so try to continue climbing and
avoiding the Barrels. In the top left corner of this Area is the 'B' Barrel,
so jump in it to get to this Level's...
***BONUS AREA***
This is another tough Bonus Area, try to go from left right and up slowly,
collecting each row of Bananas as you go up, make sure to shoot to the exit
from the highest Barrel on the left. If you did it then you have another
Crystal Coconut, well done!
Back to where you were in the Area now, so swing over to the opposite side and
find the Exit.
Level 13 - COMPLETE!
Before we check out that new Level, we first travel back to...
Level 14 - Raging Ravine
In this Area, jump in the first Barrel and shoot to the next until you reach
the top and the next Area, wait until the Tyres have moved and follow the
Banana path each time, being cautious of the floating Spike Balls.
In this Area, start swinging on the Pegs and taking out the nearby Vultures
with rocks. Grab onto the moving Peg board and try not to fall off as when the
Peg board goes into the wall you wont be able to grab. Also as you get further
up the Peg board gets smaller and smaller so make sure to grab the very
outside edge each time you grab one, at the very top time a straight up swing
from the highest Peg board to reach a ledge with a Barrel, smash it to grab a
Crystal Coconut! Jump off to the right to reach the next Area.
In this Area you will see a more powerful replacement for rocks, Bombs. They
work the same as rocks except when they land they dont crumble, they wait for
a second then explode. Use them to break the Ice blocks in your way, just try
and find the right angle to throw them at, throw a Bomb at the ? Barrel to make
a Peg board appear so you can continue. There is a Kremling here tossing bombs
at you so dodge him and carry on. Next you need to throw a Bomb into the small
cave in the wall to break the ? Barrel and make Peg boards appear that lead to
the Exit, but just before make sure you go to where the Barrel was because
your Medal was also inside! Jump up to the Exit to finish this Level.
Level 14 - COMPLETE!
With that Level done the other Level opens up but once again we go back to...
Level 15 - Underwater Ruins
In this first Area wait for a moment until Bubble-like Pegs appear from the
hole in the floor, then grab on and ride them upwards and swing off to the
right. Dodge the Starfish and ride the next Bubble Pegs upward and swing off
to the left this time, Attack the piranhas so you can take your time and smash
the two Barrels near here and get your Medal for this Level. After you have it
go back to the far right to the next Area.
In this Area the Level makes a return and once again it controls crushing walls
so you need to work it in the same way as always and open the walls fully, the
climb is quite high so give yourself as much time as possible, in the second
one you need to grab a Switch so time your grab. At the top is the next Area.
In this Area first get past the two piranhas and then you will notice you have
to keep pulling switches to make Peg boards appear so continue on the path they
give you until you see three Starfish behind some doors. Pulling the nearby
Switch will make more Peg boards appear but the door will open and release the
Starfish, this isnt a bad thing however as one of the Starfish has a Crystal
Coconut! So hunt them all down and when you have it carry on using the Peg
boards that just appeared. Near a floor of Spikes is another Switch, this one
makes a Peg board float over making it easier to cross the Spike floor. Past
the Spike floor is another Switch which you need to pull to open the doors and
continue to the Exit, continue pulling switches until you see the Exit sign.
Level 15 - COMPLETE!
The final Level to complete in this World is...
Level 16 - Ice Castle
This Area introduces what looks like Frozen Peg boards, these are very tricky
to use and are all over this Level, so practice at this point. Grabbing with
both hands at the same time is usually a good way of stopping on the Frozen Peg
boards because you will get a lot of skid when you try to grab with just one.
Break the Boxes at the top to continue onwards. The Box in the alcove needs to
be smashed to make Peg boards which you need to continue, so wait on the
rotating Pegs until your aimed at the Box and when it is smashed make sure to
grab onto the switch or you'll hit the Spike floor, continue up and grab the
Cog with your LEFT hand (the L button) otherwise you'll be swinging towards the
Spike wall. Grab onto the high up Peg board and before leaving this swing into
the 'B' Barrel for a...
***BONUS AREA***
This Bonus Area is actually quite easy once you know how to handle the controls
when on Frozen Pegs. Use the skid momentum gained from swinging with one hand
to circle the Area and grab all the Bananas, including the ones from the centre
of the circles. The Crystal Coconut will appear in the top right if you got
them all in time so grab it and get back to the Level.
Your back where you entered so walk right to the next Area.
In this Area you can swing across the bottom Pegs taking out the Kremlings with
the rocks scattered about, but watch out as they fire back. The other way to do
this Area is from above, if you grab the first rock you appear near and swing
as high as you can above your starting point you can see a ? Barrel, throw your
rock at it to make Peg boards appear that lead to a higher route of Frozen Peg
boards that can be used to avoid the Kremlings and reach the next area in the
bottom right corner. The Booster Barrel can be used to get a few Bananas if you
need some. Either way you'll reach the next area at the right side of the
screen.
The last Area is just a straight up climb with Peg boards and lots of Frozen
Peg boards, so reach the top while taking out the Kremlings and before leaving
smash the ? Barrel to make another Peg board appear, use this and the small
Frozen Peg boards to reach a small ledge in the top left corner holding your
Medal! Jump back down to the Exit to finish this Level.
Level 16 - COMPLETE!
Completing that final Level will, as usual, unlock the Boss of this World.
So lets take care of him in...
Boss 4 - Sassy Squatch's Lair
When this Boss begins get straight off the ground and onto those Peg boards and
also stay away from the left and right side of the screen for a while. After
the reveals himself you can continue to climb up while avoiding him, when you
reach as far as you can go you will notice some Bombs which you will use
against him. So position yourself on the single Peg and grab a Bomb, when he
opens his mouth, chuck the Bomb inside, if you keep missing he will use a
headbutt attack on you so be wary. He will now flash red and be take damage,
however make sure your not above his head at this point as he shoots out a ton
of Ice Mines that shoot straight up, thankfully when they explode they reveal
Pegs so climb up them to get further away from the Boss. Repeat this another
four times to beat the Boss and claim your Medal.
Boss 4 - DEFEATED!
After you beat that Boss the path to the next, and final, World appears so it
looks like its time to visit K. Rool in...
2.5
World 5 - the K. Kruizer III
In this World the Levels open in a linear fashion so you only have one order to
complete the Levels in. First things first DK needs to get to the Kruizer and
the best method would be by...
Level 17 - Booster Barrel Skyway
*Make sure you have 20+ Bananas entering this Level,
you NEED 'Go Bananas' to get the Crystal Coconut!*
Jump in the Booster Barrel to begin this unique Level, there isnt a single Peg.
You just have to negotiate the Booster Barrel until you reach the K. Kruizer
which is the Exit for this Level. There is a Banana trail to follow which
should help you avoid most Enemies. There are also more Booster Barrels
scattered about, you dont need to go in these as your original Barrel will not
run out, they are simply a shortcut if yours breaks by hitting an Enemy try to
land in one of the scattered Barrels to save some time. The Crystal Coconut is
easily missed in this Level as you need to have Go Bananas active to get it,
the second Enemy you see, a Bee on the very right edge of the screen is holding
it, however DK is invincible in Go Bananas mode so ram it and grab your Crystal
Coconut. Continue to the very top not missing the small Bronze Medal out in the
open, when you land on the floor with the Exit sign this Level is finished!
Level 17 - COMPLETED!
Now that the K. Kruizer has been boarding you can make your way through the
ship starting in...
Level 18 - K. Kruizer III Artillery
This Level starts with two Cannons that are shooting out fireballs, the green
cannons fire in a set line, but the orange cannons will try to track you so
keep moving on the pegs. Smash the ? Barrels to make more Peg boards appear
until you reach the top and get to the next Area.
This Area features moving Peg boards and lots of Cannons firing at you, so
try to move as fast as possible. Near the bottom of the screen next to an
orange Cannon the should be a Barrel, attack this to reveal a Crystal Coconut!
When you reach a large area with two ? Barrels, one above and one below you,
attack the one below you to make Peg boards appear that lead to a Blast Barrel
which one shoot you into a Barrel containing a Silver Medal. After that just
land on the Exit and you're done.
Level 18 - COMPLETED!
We're getting closer to the cockpit but first we have to pass through...
Level 19 - K. Kruizer III Hull
To start off in this Level grab the single Peg and swing yourself over the
Spike Ball and grab onto the rotating coloured Peg with the R button, swing
yourself high up and to the right to grab onto the Wheel Lever and move towards
the floating tyre, bounce off this tyre and into the Blast Barrel to be shot
straight into a...
***BONUS AREA***
This Bonus Area is rather simple, all you have to do is jump into one of the
Boost Barrels and ride around collecting every Banana, and then aiming for the
top right of the Level which is where the Crystal Coconut will appear.
When you get back simply jump off the right edge of the platform to get to the
next Area.
In this next Area the first thing you have to do is negotiate a giant Peg board
with conveyer belt Pegs and a swinging set of Spike Balls controlled by a
Kremling in the middle, attack the Kremling or just dodge your way up and you
will see three paths, the left requires a very well timed swing from a rotating
coloured Peg, the middle has some slow moving single Pegs and the right has one
moving Peg board and Boxes that need to break broken to clear a path, the
middle path is the easiest so go that way. At the top of this Area is another
part similar to the section below, with moving Spike Balls and Peg boards, so
dodge the Balls and grab onto the Lever at the top with both hands to open your
way to the next Area.
In this Area most of floor is covered in Spikes so you will have to stay on
the Pegs, the only problem is almost all of the Peg boards are Conveyer Belt
Pegs! First grab onto the Conveyer Pegs and make your way right, ingoring the
path going up. Break the Barrel and jump down the hole to land in a hidden
away Blast Barrel. Grab onto the Single Peg at the top of your blast and time
your jumps carefully in this small Area making sure to grab the giant Gold
Medal before you pull on the Lever to open a way out. Jump into the Blast
Barrel there to be shot three times onto the final Conveyer Belt Peg board,
use that to reach a ? Barrel that, when attacked, will reveal the Exit.
Level 19 - COMPLETED!
There is only one more Level to complete now before we reach the Final Boss,
so it makes sense that its the hardest Level in the game...
Level 20 - K. Kruizer III Engine
*Make sure you have 20+ Bananas entering this Level,
you NEED 'Go Bananas' to get the Crystal Coconut!*
This Level is quite tough and the start is no exception, in this Area you need
to swing around a giant Peg board smashing ? Barrels, everytime you break one
another will appear somewhere else, only one at a time, they appear in this
area in this order... Where you start, right next to the last one, then in the
top right corner. This will make some Peg boards linking to another huge Peg
Board just above you. First swing to the top left corner, 'Go Bananas' and then
attack upwards to break a Barrel, go up again to grab the Crystal Coconut!
Then its back to smashing ? Barrels so they are... at the Top right point,
Middle of Area (In between two floating Spike Balls), very bottom right of the
Area, Where you started the Area (Bottom Left), Top Left (near where you got
the Crystal Coconut) and finally the very top of the Area in the middle. This
last one will reveal Peg boards leading to the a Lever, which will reveal the
way to the next Area!
This Area begins with a long line of fast moving Single Pegs, they are very
tricky to swing on so the best way to get past them is to do cautious swinging
and make sure you always have one hand on one Peg, when you get close enough
make a jump for the larger Peg board. Grab onto the two Pegs under the floating
Spike Ball and charge an attack, release it when the Spike Ball has moved to
continue upwards, once again there is a line of moving Single Pegs, but there
are also Spike Balls in the way so be careful jumping. When you reach the next
section you have to once again grab the two pegs and charge an attack, then
when there is no obstacle in the way, release it to shoot up. Jump into the
Blast Barrel to shoot towards another Blast Barrel which aims you right at a
Spike Ball so grab the two pegs before you hit it, follow the single Pegs until
you reach a Lever but dont pull it yet, swing on the right side of it and shoot
off towards the right hand side of the Level, dodge the Blast Barrel and try to
land in the Booster Barrel... If you look at this image it may help, swing at
Point 1, when you release try to aim for Point two (while dodging the very
nearby Blast Barrel, then make a harsh turn at Point 3, after that simply fly
towards the Gold Medal in the top left of the Area. If you managed all that
well done, this is the hardest to reach Medal in the game, if you didnt just
keep trying.

Crystal Coconuts along with all of the Medals except for one Gold Medal which
is your reward for beating...
Boss 5 - King K. Rool

3 - Jungle Jam Guide
As well as the main Adventure mode, DK: King of Swing features a Jungle Jam
mode. In this you compete in various contests to win Medals, there are
different categories such as Climbing Race, Attack Battle and Obstacle Course.
You can play these Events in single player or multiplayer, with one or more
carts. You get to choose a Character to play as in this mode and there are
many in total to choose from, however only a limited number are available from
the start of the game.
3.1
Character List
You start off with a total of only 4 playable Characters and they are;
Donkey Kong
Jump >>>
Attack >>>
DK is the average stat Character, he has balanced Attack and Jump stats which
means he does ok but does not excel in either area. He is probably a poor
choice as most characters are better than him.
Diddy Kong
Jump >>>>
Attack >>
Diddy is a lighter version of DK which means he is more agile in the air but
doesnt get as much power from Attacks, he is another average character and
other characters are much better.
Dixie Kong
Jump >>>>>
Attack >
Dixie Kong is very one sided, she has a huge Jump stat but a tiny Attack stat,
this ends up making her one of the best chracters in the Jungle Jam, for any of
the of the Events where you dont need to Attack she is almost the best
character to have, choose her if you are trying to go for Gold.
Funky Kong
Jump >>
Attack >>>>
Funky is the only initial Character who has higher Attack than DK, he is a good
choice for the Attack battles until you unlock someone stronger. However his
Jump stat is very low so all around he isnt very useful.
By completing various in-game tasks you can unlock several more characters to
use in Jungle Jam who may help you get all the Gold Medals, to find out how to
unlock them read the Secrets section but here are all the stats of the Secret
Characters.
Kremling
Jump >>>
Attack >>>
The Kremling has the same stats as DK, an average character overall. He is not
a very useful character unless you want a change of pace from using DK really.
K. Rool
Jump >
Attack >>>>>
King K. Rool is the character with the highest Attack stat, he is very useful
for Attack Battle Events because his Attack is powerful and long ranged. He is
a very weak jumper though so dont use him for race Events.
Wrinkly Kong
Jump >>>>>
Attack >>
Wrinkly is a slightly more advanced version of Dixie, she is a very good Jumper
but has slightly more Attack power than Dixie, Wrinkly is one of the best
characters overall.
Bubbles
Jump >>>>
Attack >>>>
Bubbles is probably the best character because while he doesnt excel in either
Jump or Attack he is very well balanced, but still better than the other
average characters. Bubbles is a great choice for getting those Gold Medals.

4 - Secrets
There are several secrets to unlock in this game, if you dont wish to know
what the extras or secret characters are dont read the section below!
Unlock Time Attack mode in 'Extras':
To unlock Time Attack mode in the Extras menu you need to beat the final boss
of the game as DK, after the credits a message will appear saying you have
unlocked time attack mode.
Unlock Diddy Mode in 'Extras':
To unlock Diddy Mode in the Extras menu you need to collect every Medal in the
game, thats 8 Bronze, 8 Silver and 8 Gold. A message will appear saying Diddy
Mode has been unlocked, go to the extras menu and turn Diddy Mode 'ON'.
Now Adventure Mode can be played as Diddy instead of DK, Diddy is a much
better jumper than DK but his levels are tougher, there are NO Bananas in any
of his levels, the only way to get Bananas is to break Barrels or defeat
Enemies, Diddy also doesnt collect any Crystal Coconuts so they are absent
also, he still collects Medals however.
Unlock more Jungle Jam Events:
Every time you collect a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal, a Jungle Jam Event
will be added to the list. You start with only four but you can unlock another
eight, one for every set of medals you get.
Unlock Wrinkly Kong's Ghost in Jungle Jam mode:
To unlock the Ghost of Wrinkly Kong you need to collect all 20 Crystal Coconuts
in Adventure mode as DK. After finishing the last level with the last coconut
a message will appear stating that she has been unlocked. You can use her in
Jungle Jam mode and she has stats similar to Dixie Kong but better.
Unlock Kremling in Jungle Jam mode:
To be able to choose a Kremling as your character in Jungle Jam mode simply
get six Gold Medals in any six of the Jungle Jam Events. A message will appear
after you win your sixth Event stating you can now play as Kremling, he has
the same average stats as DK
Unlock King K. Rool in Jungle Jam mode:
To be able to play as King K. Rool you have to win a Gold Medal on EVERY Event
in the Jungle Jam, then you will get the message stating that you can play as
King K. Rool, he has the highest attack of all characters.
Unlock Bubbles (Clu Clu Land) in Jungle Jam mode:
To play as Bubbles the retro hero from clu clu land on the NES, you need to
complete Adventure mode as Diddy and collect all 8 Bronze, Silver and Gold
Medals, not an easy task... Bubbles hasabove average stats compared to other
characters.
