1. INTRODUCTION
-----------------------------------------------
Hey, Disney fans! Your Disney fanatic Merit Celaire here ready to provide
you with gameplay strategies from the Disney Sports Series games! This guide
focuses on one of the best and highly recommended games to play in relation
to the Disney Sports Series -- "Disney Sports Motocross"! Mickey, Minnie,
Donald, and the rest of the Disney gang are ready to tear up the motocross
race tracks with their still, and with this strategy guide, you'll get the
tips you need to nail first place at the end of every race. Okay, let's get
this guide started! First, of course, to understand the overall gameplay
objective, read on.
-----------------------------------------------
2. STORY/GAME OBJECTIVE
-----------------------------------------------
The Disney gang that we all know and love is back, and this time, they've
got motocross racing madness on the brain! Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy,
and even the diabolical nemesis Pete have burst onto the motocross racing
scene with one purpose: to win the "Disney Sports Motocross" racing
championship. However, getting that gold trophy is not going to be easy
because each character is bring personality onto the tracks in the hopes
of tripping up his or her opponents before they reach that finish line
first... via unique tricks! This isn't any ordinary motocross racing we're
talking about here, we're talking about extreme madness on the tracks from
beginning to end! But if the participants hold on to their bikes and don't
wipe out, they'll be having loads of fun and claiming victory in no time!
However, the question is this: Do you have what it takes to control your
chosen character's bike and make it through seven insane race tracks
filled with tricks and traps all around? You've got to make sure that you
do have what it takes, because your handling of that character's bike
will determine if you make it to the finish line first or if those tricks
and traps will cause your character to plunge into a pit or wipe out when
you least expect it. But never fear! This guide will help you out in
making sure that those worst possible moments will never occur and that
your first place victories on each race track will be assured!
So, are you ready? Let the "Disney Sports Motocross" races begin!
-----------------------------------------------
3. GAMEPLAY BASICS/CONTROLS
-----------------------------------------------
The main mission of each race is to handle your character's bike properly
on each race course so that you can maintain enough speed and get ahead
of the angry pack jealous of getting that 1st place finish before you.
However, in order to do that successfully, don't count on speed alone to
get you there. To finish these races, you're going to have to use every
available trick in the book to make sure your opponents don't have a
chance of catching up with you on the final stretch. Here are the vital
things that each "Disney Sports Motocross" racer must know upon getting
on the motocross race courses:
-----------------------------------------------
A. STEERING (ON THE GROUND)
-----------------------------------------------
The first thing is highly obvious -- how to steer the character's bike.
Using "Control Pad Up" and "Control Pad Down", this is used to change
lanes to get those items on the ground (including Green Gems and Oil
Cans) and to also steer around any traps or pits which will cost you
precious time and positions. The "A Button" accelerates your
character's bike to it's highest speed that the bike itself can handle,
and the "B Button" is your Turbo Boost for your bike. But be forewarned,
the Turbo Boost MUST be used wisely (this will be explained later).
-----------------------------------------------
B. STEERING (IN THE AIR)
-----------------------------------------------
When your character is getting some air, it is an adrenaline feeling,
no doubt, but this can also spell disaster if you're not careful and
aware of any upcoming slopes ahead! In order to adjust your bike to
make sure it lands safely on the slopes so that you don't wipe out,
you have to use your "Control Pad Left" and "Control Pad Right"
buttons. Use your "Control Pad Left" to raise the bike's front wheel
to land on a flat or upslope surface and your "Control Pad Right" to
drop the bike's front wheel to land safely on a downslope.
-----------------------------------------------
C. TURBO BOOSTS
-----------------------------------------------
Turbo boosts are a very helpful way to get an extra burst of speed,
but don't use it unless it is really necessary to do so; your
ability to use your Turbo Boosts are very limited. During the races
there is a "Turbo Boost" meter at the bottom left of the screen,
and every time you use it, the meter begins to drop at a steady
pace. However, when you let up on the "B Button", the meter slowly
begins to get back up to full, but you can make the meter recharge
faster by getting oil icons scattered around the tracks. The most
recommended places to use those Turbo Boosts are when you're coming
to the end of uphill slopes -- you'll get a higher jump, get some
air and temporaily maintain a higher speed than normal until you
land back safely on the ground. Just make sure to let go of the
"B Button" after launching off from those slopes so that the
remainder of the Turbo Boost meter does not go to waste.
NOTE: Turbo Boosts can also be used to jump over traps that have
no ground. Just use the "B Button" a few inches before
getting to the edge of the upcoming trap and let go of it
when you jump. This is only recommended for the 'short
traps' you'll encounter on some courses.
WARNING: Watch that "Turbo Boost" meter at all times! If the meter
is empty, then the bike's motor will begin to smoke and
you won't be able to use any more Turbo Boosts until the
meter reenergizes (overtime or after collecting oil cans).
-----------------------------------------------
D. TRICKS
-----------------------------------------------
Tricks play an important part in this game, and the green gems
laid around on each track are the key to activating those
tricks. Collecting these gems raises your "Trick" meter, shown
on the bottom right of the screen. ONLY when that gauge is
full and ONLY when your character is in the air will you be able
to execute a trick (use the "R Button" to execute it). There are
three levels of tricks that your character can perform. Your
character can perform a Level 1 trick when the "Trick Meter"
is full with the GREEN marking. The same criteria applies for
Level 2 and Level 3 tricks, except that for Level 2 tricks to be
performed, the gauge has to be full with the YELLOW marking, and
for Level 3 tricks (the highest level), the gauge has to be full
with the RED marking.
Be forewarned: should you wipe out, some of the gems will fall
out for others to attempt to pick up; so once you get back up,
make sure to try your best and get them back quickly (your "Trick
Gauge" drops a bit as well). However, should you fall off course
in a trap that has no ground, you'll lose all the gems that you
have earned! Your "Trick Gauge" meter drops back to
"completely empty" as well.
Upon using a Trick, you'll have to start collecting gems all over
again to refill your Trick Gauge once more to perform another
Trick.
TIP: Make sure to collect as many gems as possible to do Level
3 tricks! When this trick is used in the midst of your
competitors, this will also launch an 'attack' on them to
make THEM slow down or even better... wipe out!
CAUTION: When performing a Trick on any level, make sure you
have enough air space to do a trick completely! You
still have to make sure to land that bike safely on
the ground, or that trick attempt won't count! The
worse thing that can happen is when you attempt a
Level 3 trick in the midst of your competitors only
to wipe yourself out at the end making the 'attack
attempt' useless.
-----------------------------------------------
4. CHARACTERS
-----------------------------------------------
Each character brings a unique personality to the "Disney Sports
Motocross" race courses. Which one matches your type of racing?
Below is a chart which includes his or her team name, a brief
'personality' description, and their own unique "Level Tricks":

The next chart shows the starter statistics for each character's vehicle.
The performance levels are in numbers (1 being the lowest and 9 being the
highest). The statistics are as follows below:
=========================================================================
= CHARACTER = SPEED = ACCELERATION = TURBO = BALANCE = JUMP =
=========================================================================
= Mickey = 5 = 5 = 5 = 5 = 5 =
=========================================================================

=========================================================================
WHAT THE STATISTICS MEAN:
SPEED: Amount of speed that the character's bike can reach.
ACCELERATION: How long the character's bike can reach it's highest
amount of speed.
TURBO: How much 'extra speed' is used to temporaily boost overall
speed and to make the jumps from ramps or slopes.
BALANCE: Character's ability to control the bike to steer smoothly
and to land the bike safely after a jump.
JUMP: How far the character's bike will be able to jump over dangerous
obstacles and traps (just after 'boosting' on ramps/slopes).
NOTE: There are "special items" that can be acquired throughout the game.
These items are mainly used to help boost the performance of your
character and his/her bike in at least one performance statistic
mentioned above. The categories for those items will be mentioned
later.
The final chart list the descriptions for their Level 3 Tricks
which can also be used as 'attacks' to hinder the competition.
These attacks will ONLY work if your character has performed that Level
3 trick and lands back on the ground safely. Also, you must see at least
one or two opponents in your sights in order for the 'attack' to take
effect. You can check the "Track Indicator" at the top left corner of
the gameplay screen to see when it's time to prepare that attack. Don't
use it if you're currently in 1st place though (and way ahead of the
competition). It is highly recommended to use it if you're in 3rd place
or below; but still, make sure the challengers are in your sights.
The Level 3 attacks for the characters are as follows:

5. SPECIAL ITEMS
-----------------------------------------------
There are "special items" that you are able to acquire during the course of
your "Disney Sports Motocross" racing career which can help you gain 1st
place victories during future races. When you meet certain criteria in
some racing modes in the game, you're able to acquire items like Turbo
Chambers, Rocket Engines, and so forth. As you're setting up your racing
pursuits, you are able to choose one of the many items that you have
unlocked on your "Item List". Be aware, that once you have finalized the
selection, it's used for the whole race itself. The majority of these items,
when chosen, can help add a boost to one of the performance status indicators
on your bike. Which performance status indicator that specific item will help
is a mystery (in terms of how much of a "boost" it will get). Although each
item targets a specific status indicatior, it might boost other status
indicators a bit, but not all of them. I have separated them into specified
"categories" as specified below:
-------------------- --------------------- --------------------------
ENGINES ABSORBERS CHAMBERS
-------------------- --------------------- --------------------------
Monster Engine 1 Single Absorber 1 Top Speed Chamber 1
Monster Engine 2 Single Absorber 2 Top Speed Chamber 2
Monster Engine 3 Single Absorber 3 Top Speed Chamber 3
Rocket Engine 1 Twin Absorber 1 Acceleration Chamber 1
Rocket Engine 2 Twin Absorber 2 Acceleration Chamber 2
Rocket Engine 3 Twin Absorber 3 Acceleration Chamber 3
Turbo Engine 1 Turbo Chamber 1
Turbo Engine 2 Turbo Chamber 2
Turbo Engine 3 Turbo Chamber 3
Normal Engine
ENGINE DESCRIPTIONS:
MONSTER ENGINE: Mainly targets the "Speed" statistic; occasionally
boosts the "Acceleration" and "Turbo" statistics
slightly.
ROCKET ENGINE: Mainly targets the "Turbo" statistic; occasionally
boosts the "Acceleration" and "Jump" statistics
slightly.
TURBO ENGINE: Mainly targets the "Acceleration" statistic;
occasionally boosts the "Speed" and "Turbo"
statistics slightly.
NORMAL ENGINE: Slightly boosts all statistics (this is the only
engine available at the start of a new game).
ABSORBER DESCRIPTIONS:
SINGLE ABSORBER: Mainly targets the "Jump" statistic.
TWIN ABSORBER: Same as "Single Absorber", but also occasionally
boosts the "Speed" and "Acceleration" statistics
slightly.
CHAMBER DESCRIPTIONS:
TOP SPEED CHAMBER: Mainly targets the "Speed" statistic; occasionally
boosts the "Acceleration" and "Jump" statistics
slightly.
ACCEL. CHAMBER: As the name suggests; mainly targets the
"Acceleration" statistic; occasionally boosts the
"Turbo" and "Jump" statistics slightly.
TURBO CHAMBER: As the name suggests; this targets the "Turbo"
statistic, but this also occasionally boosts the
"Speed" and "Jump" statistics as well.
NOTE: There is a fourth and final category... the "Clothing" category.
They can be chosen along with the other regular items, but these
have a special purpose in terms of targeting certain bike
statistics to raise it's status(es) up a notch. WHICH statistics
these clothes target (when chosen) are unknown until added to the
"Item List".
-----------------------------------------------
6. THE RACE COURSES ("CHALLENGE CUP" MODE)
-----------------------------------------------
Now with all that said and done, now it's time to place your motocross
racing skills to the test! In these races, the procedure is as follows:
(1) On each race course, you will have to do a qualifying lap against
three other challengers. Your skills will be tested on that course
to see which position you will start in for the main race. You will
only get one lap during the "Qualifier" round, so the position that
you are in at the end of that lap determines your position that you
start on at the beginning of the main race. Try your best to
maintain the pole position (1st place) so that you'll start there
when the main race begins!
(2) On the main race for that course, the real test begins. Your main
mission is to aim for 1st place, of course. But in order to pass
the race course itself, you must finish in 3rd place or better in
order to proceed on to the next course. However, if the odds
aren't in your favor and you do end up in 4th, you will be given
the opportunity to try the course again.
During the Challenge Cup mode, at the end of each race, you will
be given points in relation to which place you finished at the end
of each race course (if you finish in 3rd or better):
1st Place: 7 Points
2nd Place: 5 Points
3rd Place: 3 Points
The person with the highest total points after completion of all
the courses wins the championship.
Now, it's time to check out the courses in detail. Here I will list the
courses that are in the game, along with the difficulty of the course
(1 being easiest, 5 being the hardest), the description of the course
itself, as well as any hazards or traps to take notice of.
-----------------------------------------------
D.S.N. STADIUM (BEGINNER COURSE)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 1
DESCRIPTION: A fairly basic stadium where the "Disney Sports Motocross"
participants can show off their skills to see who's the
best rider.
HAZARDS: (1) There are bumpy surfaces in the middle of the course. Make
sure to maneuver around them; running over those bumpy
surfaces will cause you to lose a bit of speed.
TRAPS: (1) Beware of that upcoming trap as soon as you get through
bumpy surface. Fortunately, there's a big ramp before it so
that you can do a "Turbo Boost" on it and make that jump.
It is recommended that you attach a 'Speed' or 'Jump' item
prior to racing on this course.
NOTE: This course is only available in the Beginner Difficulty of the
Challenge Cup, and is the only course you'll race on. You won't
able to race on the rest of the courses after this one.
-----------------------------------------------
HILLSBANK PALISADES (COURSE 1)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 1
DESCRIPTION: What's this? This course still looks like it's under
construction! Located at the beach, the scenery may look
beautiful, but watch out for what's happening on the
streets.
HAZARDS: (1) There is some unsteady ground in two areas soon after you
descend from the pyramid climb (you'll notice the color
difference). Fortunately, there are ramps to help aid in
your attempts to jump over them so that you won't lose
speed.
TRAPS: (1) Watch out for a sewer hole opening located just before the
first area which has unsteady ground. This is an
unforgiving 'trap' should you fall in it.
-----------------------------------------------
CHARMERS CASTLE (COURSE 2)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 3
DESCRIPTION: A lovely castle designed from fairy tale stories, this
course is a sight to behold. However, can you keep your
focus on the course itself while enjoying the view?
HAZARDS: (1) There are "speed boosts" laid on the course to h
to help you make those critical jumps to the next
surface. Just make sure to position that bike well so
that you'll make it and land smoothly on the other
side.
(2) There are so many slopes on this course that this is
considered to be a hazard if you haven't mastered your
"Turbo Boost"/Jumping skills yet. Make sure that your
"Turbo Boost" meter is ALWAYS full so that you can
make the jumps.
TRAPS: (1) There's no room for error here because there are a bunch
of 'water traps' on this course. This is usually the main
mistake that occurs: if the character's bike makes a jump,
yet it's not enough to make it to the other side, he or
she falls into the trap (and most of these traps are wide
too, so be very careful!)
-----------------------------------------------
DUCKS HARBOR/S.S. CANTANKEROUS (COURSE 3)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 2
DESCRIPTION: Taking place on a ship at sea, this course sure is
very unique using many objects like barrels and
cannons making it wild and wacky, as well as many
tricks and traps to hinder the unprepared rider
Expect the unexpected.
HAZARDS: None
TRAPS: (1) There are four 'traps' on the ship that you'll run
into if you don't time your jumps properly: one is
at the very beginning after you make your descent
from the starting line, the second is shortly after
that from the next descent of steps. The third and
fourth traps are located when your 'inside' the
ship.
(2) There are two water traps on this course (one under each
big blue cannon). Use those cannons to your advantage to
jump over those traps safely.
-----------------------------------------------
DREAMLAND FUNPARK (COURSE 4)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 3
DESCRIPTION: As the title suggests, this course really looks like
a "dreamland funpark". But in terms of motocross
racing? The mayhem may make it look more like a
nightmare!
HAZARDS: (1) The "speed boosts" make a return again in this stage.
Use them the same way that you used them in Charmers
Castle.
(2) The bottom half of the earliest part of the course
has some difficult areas to make successful jumps.
The most hazardous one to take note of is after the
roller coaster ramp and the two green slopes
following it. Don't attempt to take that part of
the course unless you know how to control your bike
very well. It's highly recommended to take the top
route to avoid the risks.
(3) The 'roller coaster' area has a very steep slope, so
make sure that your bike is properly adjusted to
overcome the hazard.
TRAPS: (1) There is a big water trap in the same area where the
"biggest hazard" is located. If the jumps are timed
correctly (along with the bike controlled properly),
you'll be able to overcome the trap.
(2) Another trap is located not too far from the last one:
under the castle. This can be seen after the "speed
boosts" strategically placed before it. Maneuver your
bike to the highest or lowest lane of the course very
quickly to avoid falling in.
-----------------------------------------------
MOON OF IOTA (COURSE 5)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 4
DESCRIPTION: They say that in space, no one can hear you scream.
If only it were true on the Moon of Iota... this
course is crazy! One false move will prompt a
serious distress call. Have you mastered your
overall bike steering skills yet?
HAZARDS: (1) Very steep slopes when ascending on them; there are
hidden "speed boosts" on those areas; make sure to
adjust your bike properly to maintain control for
the jump and the landing after the jump.
TRAPS: (1) There is a hidden "trap" near the end of the course.
Make sure that you know how to time your jumps very
well to avoid falling into it.
-----------------------------------------------
PETE'S PLEASUREVILLE (COURSE 6)
-----------------------------------------------
COURSE DIFFICULTY: 5
DESCRIPTION: Okay, so the Moon of Iota wasn't really chaos.
Pete's Pleasureville is where all of the intense
action is. Only the best of the best will know how
to steer through this course! Are you ready?
HAZARDS: (1) "Speed boots" make an appearance in this course.
Treat them the same as Charmers Castle, Dreamland
Funpark, and Moon of Iota.
(2) Bumpers are located throughout the course. Bumping
into them will send you back a few inches unless
you steer quickly around them.
(3) You will encounter barriers in the middle of the
race course, and near the end. Like the bumpers,
steer around them quickly so you won't lose time
and positions.
TRAPS: (1) There are traps on the left and right sides of the
'helipad' area a few feet before the end of the race
course. If you time your boosts/jumps well, you
should be able to avoid it entirely.
NOTE: Courses 1 - 6 are only available in the Normal and Expert
difficulties of this game.
-----------------------------------------------
7. OTHER MODES OF PLAY
-----------------------------------------------
Okay, so with this motocross racing madness all said and done,
you thought the fun was over? Not by a long shot! There are
many other modes in this game which will let you tear up the
tracks with your favorite Disney character. Check them all out
to see what you have what it takes! The modes that are
available are:
(1) EXHIBITION: Want to race with four other characters on your
favorite race course? This is the mode to do
it! (Check "6. The Race Courses" for detailed
info including tips, hazards, and traps to gain
the #1 spot in no time!)
(2) SCORE ATTACK: Set a new high score on your favorite course
by performing as many tricks as possible.
(Check 3. Gameplay Basics/Controls, D. Tricks
for procedures to perform your tricks well).
(3) MINI-GAMES: If you need a break from the motocross racing
madness, there are three games to help you get
away from all the action. The Mini-Games
include "Tire Panic" (tests your steering
skills), "Rock Crush" (use your A Button to
smash the rocks within the time limit), and
"Brake or Splash!" (race to the edge of the
course, but don't go overboard).
(4) TIME ATTACK: Same as Score Attack, but this time, aim for
the best time on the course. (Check
3. Gameplay Basics/Controls for gameplay
details about steering and turbo boosts for
help in this mode).
(5) TUTORIAL: This helps you practice some of the available
techniques the game has to offer. Although this
guide explains every nook and cranny on how to
fully enjoy the game and unlock the secrets, it
is still Highly recommended for first-time players
to get used to the game controls. There are 12
lessons in all to complete. Once a lesson is
completed, the game places a check over it on the
Tutorial menu.
