=======================
3. Items and Obstacles
=======================
These items can be found when jumping on the "?" blocks or the brick blocks.
Mushroom: Running into one of these will turn small Mario into Big Mario. The
only difference here is that it will take you two hits to lose a life instead
of one and you can duck if you are Big Mario.
Fire Flower: These can only be found in "?" blocks if you are Big Mario.
Grabbing one of these will turn Mario into Fire Mario. He can shoot out
Fireballs by using the B button to knock out nearly any enemy in one hit. If
you find a Fire Flower as Big Mario but get hit and then get the Fire Flower as
small Mario, it will only upgrade you to Big Mario. Fire Flowers are also
highly useful for getting through water levels.
Invincibility Star: These are stars that can make Mario invincible for a short
period of time. During this time, he can plow through enemies and knock them
out as he runs into them. But being invincible does not protect you from
falling in gaps, jumping into lava, etc.
1-Up Mushroom: Running into one of these will give Mario an extra life. Most of
the time these are either hidden or found in brick blocks that look difficult
to reach.
Coins: Found scattered across nearly any level, all coins do is raise up your
score and they will give you an extra life when you reach 100 coins. These also
can be found in "?" blocks or brick blocks. When found in blocks, there can be
several coins in one block if you continue to jump on them.
Vines: Not really an item, but this can be found in brick blocks that are hard
to get to. Climbing up a vine will bring you up into the sky, where you can
ride on a cloud and get several coins. At the end of this bonus stage, just
fall through the gap to return to the level.
----------
Obstacles
----------
Warp Pipes: These appear in nearly every level of the game. Some of the warp
pipes you can go down, while others are just there for decoration and such.
When going down warp pipes, you'll usually find secret areas loaded with coins
and maybe a power-up or two. There are also hidden warp-zone pipes that can
take you to another world.
"?" block: Hitting one of these from below causes an item listed in the above
section to come out.
Brick Block: These are like "?" blocks, except they can be broken as Big or
Fire Mario by hitting them from below. Sometimes they will contain nothing, but
other times they can hold an item listed in the above section.
Flagpole: These are just poles you jump on at the end of a level. The higher
you jump on it, the more points you get. There are usually ways just before the
flagpole to get on the top of it, such as a long staircase, a spring, etc.
Spring: Jumping on these can make you bounce really high in the air if you
press A while you jump on the spring. If you don't press A while you're on the
spring, you can bounce really low. Also, it can be difficult controlling Mario
when on a spring, especially if you're trying to land on a small platform, thus
increasing your risk to fall through a gap.
===========
4. Enemies
===========
Goomba: One of the first enemies you find in the game. They are no real threat
at all, because all they do is walk into you. All it takes to defeat these
enemies are a fireball or just simply jump on their head. These are brown
mushroom like enemies with two legs. You can find blue goombas in the
underground level, but they're not any different from the brown ones found on
land.
Koopa Troopa: These enemies come in 2 different colors, red and green. The red
Koopa Troopas will not walk off ledges into gaps, but the green ones will fall
off ledges. Sometimes, they can be hopping around the level with wings attached
to them. If that's the case, then just jump on them and they'll lose their
wings and start walking on the ground. When you jump on them, they'll go inside
their turtle shells. You can kick the shell to knock out other enemies, but it
can hit you if it bounces off a wall and comes back at you. To defeat these
enemies, you can kick their shells into gaps or use a Fire Flower on them.
Bony Beetle: These are nearly the same things as Koopas, except they can't be
hit by Fire Flowers. They look like beetles with large shells on them and they
cannot fly either. They are located in the later levels and when you play
through this a second time after beating the game, these enemies will replace
all Goombas found in the game. You can jump on their shell and kick it into a
gap or to knock out other enemies.
Hammer Bros.: Found much later in the game, these are the most annoying enemies
in this game. Usually found on platforms, they toss an endless amount of
hammers at you. After a while, they'll jump on other platforms and stop
throwing for a brief second. You can jump on them or jump on the block their
standing on to knock them out, or use the safest way and take them out with a
Fireball.
Lakitu: These are found halfway through the game and appear on other occasions
after that. These are enemies in moving clouds that toss Spinies down to you.
They are always on the top of the screen, so to knock them out, you must get on
a high platform and jump on them. They always seem to come back after that too.
They will leave you alone in some parts of the level too.
Spiny: These can be found whenever Lakitu drops them. They have spikes on the
top of the shell, so jumping on them is out of the question. You can easily
defeat them with a Fire Flower, but if Lakitu starts dropping down too many,
they can easily get in your way and cause you a lot of problems. Your best bet
is to run away from these enemies.
Piranha Plant: These only come out of warp pipes. They will not come out of the
pipes if you are standing on them or right next to them. Since their mouth is
sticking upward, jumping on them will hurt you. Kicking a Koopa shell will not
hurt them either. Take these our using a Fire Flower, but you shouldn't really
have to worry about these enemies, because they can be easily avoided.
Cheep-Cheep: These are fish found underwater and in two of the levels, they'll
be leaping from the ground as you cross a long bridge. When found underwater,
they cannot be hurt unless you have a Fire Flower. When jumping over the
bridges and such on land, they usually show up on groups and can mow you down
pretty quickly. You can either take them out with a Fire Flower or jump on
them.
Blooper: These enemies are only found in the water levels. They are squids who
go in all directions and usually get in your way. Only a fireball will get rid
of these bloopers, but watch out if they get close. They usually won't touch
you if they get close, but sometimes they may swim away. These enemies are
pretty unpredictable at times.
Bullet Bill: These enemies are shot out of cannons and can only move in the
direction they were fired in. Jumping on them will knock them out, but
fireballs will not work on them. The cannons may be elevated lower or higher,
making the area more difficult. Touching them will hurt you, and watch out if
you have several of these enemies coming at you at once.
==============
5. Characters
==============
Mario: He's the main character you control throughout the game. Mario is an
Italian plumber trying to save the princess while going through many obstacles
in his way. With the Mushroom or Fire Flower, he can become Big or Fire Mario.
Luigi: Luigi is Mario's brother, this time he is dressed in green and blue.
Although he doesn't appear in one player mode, Luigi can be accessed using 2
player mode with a GameBoy Advance link cable. Unlike most other Mario games,
his jumping and running ability is the same as Mario.
Princess Peach: She's the princess who was capable of breaking the spell set on
the Mushroom Kingdom and was kidnapped by Bowser for that. She is saved by
Mario several times throughout the series and is found on the last level of the
game.
Toad: Bowser also captured seven Toads. In Worlds 1-7, each time you defeat a
fake Bowser, you save a Toad, who always says the infamous annoying message:
"Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle!" So that means we hear
that seven times throughout the game, barring any warp-zones that you take.
They could at least be useful if they gave you some sort of hint.
Bowser: He's the one behind it all. Bowser is a large Koopa who put a curse on
the Mushroom Kingdom and captured Peach. You fight seven decoys of him
throughout the game and fight the real one on World 8. You defeat Bowser the
same way you defeat any other Bowser. Just run under him and hit the axe. Later
in the game, he'll start tossing hammers at you like the Hammer Bros.
===============
6. Walkthrough
===============
One day in the Mushroom Kingdom, an evil Koopa called Bowser casted a spell on
the Mushroom Kingdom, turning innocent people into evil mushrooms called
Goombas. There is only one person who could break this spell, and that is
Princess Peach. Bowser, knowing this, kidnapped the princess and her seven
Toads. Now it's up to Mario to save the princess.

World 1

----------
World 1-1
----------
Start out the first level by going right. Hit the first "?" block for a coin.
Also jump on the Goomba to knock it out. To our right is a triangle of "?"
blocks. Hit the one on the bottom left and a Mushroom will come out, so grab it
to become Big Mario. Now jump right and jump over the series of pipes and we'll
get to a gap. Before getting to the gap, jump to the left of that green
mountain in the background until a hidden block comes out revealing a 1-up
mushroom. Now jump over the gap. Hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower
and watch out for the Goombas falling from the platform above. Continue right
and jump over the gap. Get all of the coins from the first brick block. Now go
right and we'll find two brick blocks. Hit the one on the right for an
Invincibility Star. Grab it and run all the way right, running through every
enemy in our path.
You'll come to two staircases. Go past both of them and you'll get to a two
other staircases and a gap. Jump over the gap and continue right. Jump over the
pipe and keep going right until you get to another pipe. Avoid the Goombas,
jump over the pipe, and then go up the long staircase. At the top, jump to the
flagpole and complete the level. After the level is over, we'll see a cut-scene
of Mario going into a pipe.
----------
World 1-2
----------
This is our first underground levels. Avoid the Goombas and hit the first "?"
block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Hit the other "?" blocks for coins. Now
continue right and jump over all the poles. Once you jump over all the poles,
take out the two Koopas. Also, bash the brick blocks to get to an area of
coins. Grab all of them, jump down to the ground, and go right. If you're
little Mario, you can go under the brick blocks, but they're hanging too low
for Big/Fire Mario. If you are big, bash the brick blocks above you and jump
over the platform. Now continue right until you get to a gap. Jump over the gap
and take out the three Goombas near you. Now go right and you'll get to a few
pipes that are occupied by Piranha Plants.
If you are Fire Mario, take them out to make things easier. Otherwise, just
wait until the Piranha Plants go back in their pipes and jump over them. After
you jump over the pipes, jump over both gaps and head right. Use the sliding
platforms moving down to get onto the platform to your right. On here, go right
and use the sliding platforms moving up to get onto the platform to your right.
On here, enter the warp pipe to your right and we'll be outside. Out here, jump
up the big staircase and jump to the flagpole to finish the level.
----------
World 1-3
----------
Start this level by going right and jumping to the platform to our right. On
here, jump onto the next platform. Take out the Koopa and get the coins if you
want on the ledge above you. Now jump onto the next platform and two Goombas
will come from the right. Knock out both of them and jump on the platform they
were on. Jump to the right to get on a lower platform and we'll see a platform
sliding up and down. Use it to get to the ledge on the right. Bash the "?"
block to get a Mushroom/Fire Flower and then go right. Jump on the higher
platform and wait for the Goomba to fall in the gap. When he does and when the
red Koopa is flying low enough, jump on the higher platform to the right.
On this platform, go right. Use the two platforms sliding left and right to get
to another platform. On here, jump onto the ledge to our right. Now go right
and take out the two Red Koopas if you want, and get the coins on the lower
ledge. Now go right, jump over the gap and get the coins, and then get on the
sliding platform moving right and left. Also, get on the platform to the right
and use it to jump on the flagpole, and we'll be in the first castle of the
game.
----------
World 1-4
----------
Go down the staircase and jump over the lava pit. Now go right and jump over
the next lava pit onto a platform with a swinging fire-bar and a "?" block.
Quickly hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and jump over the lava pit
to the right. On here, go all the way right to a bigger room, dodging all of
the fire-bars. In this room, jump over the fire-bars and when we get past the
last block, fire should be coming from the right, meaning we're near the boss.
Continue right into another big area. If you jump here, you may find hidden
blocks, but they just contain coins. Continue right, jumping over the platforms
until we get to a bridge with lava beneath it for our first boss fight.
If you are Fire Mario, five fireballs will put the decoy Bowser to rest. If
not, wait until he jumps and then run under him and hit the axe to make him
fall into the lava, dodging the fireballs as well. If you knock him out with
the fireballs, hit the axe anyways, then we'll go right and find our first
rescued Toad and start world 2.
<><><><><>
World 2
<><><><><>
----------
World 2-1
----------
Start the second world out by going right and we'll find three brick blocks.
Take out the Goomba and hit the middle brick block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower.
Now go up the stairs to the right and then fall down to the ground. Down here,
take out the two Koopas and jump over the poles to our right. Now keep going
right and jump over the pipe with the Piranha Plant, dodging the Goombas while
you're at it. Now take out the Koopa and the Goombas here. Hit the bottom left
"?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Continue right and take out the Goombas
and Koopa and then we'll get to another pipe. Jump over this pipe and continue
going right. The seven "?" blocks here are just all coins. Jump over the gap
and we'll get to a pipe. Use the pipe to jump over the gap to our right. Now go
right and jump over the small pipe.
From here, jump over the series of pipes and we'll get to a gap. Jump over the
gap and continue right. Jump over the next gap and over the pole. Now go right
and jump over the pipe, dodging the Goombas and Koopas in our way. Now bounce
on the red spring to get on top of the large pole. From here, jump to the right
and touch the flagpole to end the level. We'll also have a cut-scene of Mario
going down another pipe.
----------
World 2-2
----------
This is our first of our two water levels throughout the game. Swim to the
right and swim to the right until you get to a gap with coins in it. Get them
if you want and avoid the Bloopers while you're at it. Continue swimming right
past the cheep-cheeps and bloopers until you get to a bigger gap. Grab the
coins if you want them and then swim through the gap. Keep swimming right until
you get to a gap closed in from the left and right. Get the six coins in the
gap if you want to, but watch out, the cheep-cheeps can get really annoying
right here. Fire Flower them if you can, but get out of the gap and continue
right into a bigger area. There is a pipe at the end of this area, so walk into
it and we'll be outside.
Out here, just go up the long staircase. At the top of the stairs, jump onto
the flagpole and finish the level.
----------
World 2-3
----------
For the second level in a row, we see the Cheep-Cheeps. This time, they are
jumping over the bridge to try and annoy you, so make sure you run through the
level at all times. Start the level by jumping over the little gap and go up
the stairs onto the long bridge. Keep running right until you get to a gap,
dodging all of the Cheep-Cheeps and getting the coins if you want. Don't try to
fight the Cheep-Cheeps, as it wastes time and increases your risk of getting
it. Jump over the gap onto the next bridge. Grab the coins if you want and then
jump over the gap to the next bridge. Get the coins and hit the "?" block for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now jump on the next platform. Quickly avoid the Cheep-
Cheeps and then jump onto the small platform. Use it to get on the bridge to
your right.
On here, run right until you get to another bridge and then jump on it. On
here, get the coins and then jump onto the next bridge. Now go right and jump
across the platforms onto another bridge. From here, head right down the stairs
onto the ground. Now go right, go up the long staircase, and then jump onto the
flagpole to go into our second castle.
----------
World 2-4
----------
Go down the stairs and continue right and you'll get to a lava pit. Jump onto
the small ledge and watch out for the fireballs coming out from the lava. Now
jump on the next platform and hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now
jump across the lava pit to get to another area. You have an option of taking a
higher or lower path. I prefer the higher path, as you have to deal with less
fire-bars. Run through the floor and jump onto the higher platform. Dodge the
fire-bar and use the platforms moving up and down to get onto the platform to
your right. On here, the fireballs from the right should start coming at you.
Continue right and we'll get to a few lava pits. Jump over all of them and
continue right. Jump over the pits and we'll get to Bowser.
It's the same thing as world 1, but we have gray brick blocks above us, so
jumping will be more difficult. Five fireballs will dispose of him or you can
run under him and hit the axe. If you fireball him, hit the axe anyway and
we'll go right and save our second Toad and then go down to World 3.
<><><><><>
World 3
<><><><><>
----------
World 3-1
----------
Start world 3 by going right to the three "?" blocks. The one on the right has
a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Hit it and then knock out the flying Koopas. Go right
and jump over the warp pipe that has the Piranha Plant. Now go right and jump
over the next pipe. Now jump over the gap to the right and jump over the three
Goombas. Now jump over the next two pipes and you'll get to a staircase. Go up
the stairs and cross the bridge, avoiding the Goombas at the top. Jump over the
water and we'll get to brick blocks. The one on the far left has a Star, so hit
it and get the Star. Go right and avoid the Goombas and Koopas. Jump over the
pipe and we'll have our first meeting with the Hammer Bros.
If you are Fire Mario, get on top of the pipe and jump/fire at them. If not, go
under the brick blocks and hit them by jumping from beneath. The "?" block on
the right is a Mushroom/Fire Flower too. Go right and use the spring to bounce
over the gap and the brick blocks. Now go right and use the stairs to get to
the ground below you. Go right and we'll find 4 "?" blocks. The bottom right
one has a Mushroom/Fire Flower, the others are just coins. Avoid all of the
Koopas and continue right and jump over the pole to get to a big staircase. Go
up the staircase and jump to touch the flagpole to finish the level.
----------
World 3-2
----------
This level gives us the chance to stack up points on our score and get an extra
life or two. Stomp on the first Goomba and kick the shell. Quickly follow it to
knock out the rest of the Goombas. Keep running right and jump over the block.
Hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and then go right to find two
brick blocks. The top one has an Invincibility Star, so hit it, get it, and run
all the way right until you get to a gap, knocking out all of the Goombas you
find. Jump over the gap to get on the next platform. Knock out the Koopa and
kick the shell to the right to knock out all enemies here, and if you're fast
enough, you'll get a 1-up for knocking out enough enemies in succession.
Keep running right and you'll get to a pipe. Jump over the pipe and go right.
Knock out the Goombas and the Koopa and continue going right and we'll get to
the big staircase. Jump up the staircase and at the top, jump to the flagpole
and finish the level.
----------
World 3-3
----------
Start the level out by going right. Jump on the treetops and go right and jump
on the platform sliding left and right. Use them to get to the treetops on our
right. On here, jump through the treetops and hit the "?" block for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower, knocking out the Red Koopa near it. Now jump on the
treetop to the right. The platform you see to the right will lower upon jumping
on them, so you'll need to be quick. Use it to get on the treetops to the
right. Grab the 4 coins from the 4 treetops and then we'll get to two platforms
connected by a spring. If you stand on the platform, your weight will bring it
down and cause the other to rise. Use them to get to the platforms sliding to
the left and right.
From here, use the sliding platforms to get to a group of treetops. Grab the
coins from them and then jump over the gap to get to another treetop. Knock out
the two Red Koopas and then go right. Jump on the sliding platform and use it
to get to the two connected platforms to the right. Use them to jump onto the
flagpole on our right to finish the level.
----------
World 3-4
----------
Go down the staircase and go right. Jump over the three platforms with fire-
bars on them. Also watch out for the fireballs shooting out from the gaps. Now
once you jump through all platforms, go right to a set of three "?" blocks. The
middle one has a Mushroom/Fire Flower, so quickly get it before it sinks into
the small lava pit. Jump over the lava pit afterward and go right. We'll come
to an opening with two swinging fire-bars. When the timing is right, jump
through the opening and we'll come to another opening with fire-bars. Jump
through the opening when the timing is right and go right to get to the third
and final opening with fire-bars. Jump through the opening and go right. Jump
over the lava pit and get on the next platform, dodging the fireball shooting
up from the lava.
At this point, the fireballs will start coming to get you from the right. Dodge
them and jump over the next lava pit, dodging the fireball shooting from it.
Now jump over the next two platforms, dodging the fireballs. Now go all the way
right and we'll get to a decoy Bowser. The layout is easier than world 2's. The
brick blocks are in the middle rather than the left. Five fireballs from you or
running under him when he jumps and touches the axe will finish him. Now you'll
go right and rescue the third Toad and move on to World 4.
<><><><><>
World 4
<><><><><>
----------
World 4-1
----------
This is the first level where we find Lakitu, and you'll be doing a lot of
running in this level. Start this level out by going right until you get to a
pipe. Jump over the pipe and then we'll meet Laktiu. Watch out for all of the
Spinies he throws down at you. Quickly hit the "?" block above you for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now go right and jump over the gap. From here, run all
the way right until you get to a gap, grabbing the coins in your way. When you
get to a gap, jump over it. Now run right, hit the "?" blocks if you want to,
and jump over the pole. Get the coins if you want and then go right. Jump over
the pipe and go right. Now jump over the next pipe and then continue right.
We'll get to a set of brick blocks, "?" blocks, and a gap. Jump over the "?"
blocks and get on them to get over the gap. Now go right, jump over the pipe,
and then jump over the two gaps.
From here, jump over the pole and watch out for the gap. Go right and get to
the giant staircase. Lakitu will leave you alone now. Jump onto the flagpole
and finish the level. After the level is completed, we'll see a cut-scene of
Mario entering a warp pipe.
----------
World 4-2
----------
This is our second and final underground level in the game. Start the level out
by going right and jumping onto the gaps to get onto a thin platform. Now
quickly jump on the platform to your right. If you are little Mario, run under
the blue brick blocks, and if you're Super or Fire Mario, jump over them and
then fall in the gap. The brick block on the right has a Mushroom/Fire Flower,
so hit it. Now jump on the brick blocks again and continue right. Bash the
three Goombas and then run right and fall onto the ground. Now here, go to the
set of three "?" blocks. The middle one has a Mushroom/Fire Flower, so pick it
up. Now go right and use the moving platforms to get onto the ground to your
right.
From here, go right and we'll get to a set of four pipes. Dodge the Koopas and
the Bony Beetles and jump over all of the pipes. Watch out for the Piranha
Plants in them as well. From here, go right and we'll get to a pole. Use the
pole to jump over the gap to your right and onto a pipe. Now jump onto the next
platform and use the moving platform to get onto the ground to your right. From
here, jump over the gap and you'll get to a set of three pipes. Jump over all
three of them as usual and then jump over the gap at the end. Now go right and
head up the mini-stairs. Use the sliding platforms to get on the ground to your
right.
Knock out the two Koopas and you'll also notice a set of brick blocks above
you. Hit the one on the far left to make a Mushroom/Fire Flower appear. If
you're big, bash the other brick blocks to get on top of the row of brick
blocks to get the coins. Now go right and use the staircase to get onto the big
pipe to the right. Use it to jump over the gap and enter the warp pipe. We'll
be outside now. Go up the giant staircase and jump onto the flagpole to the top
to finish the level.
----------
World 4-3
----------
Start this level out by going right and jumping onto the mushroom platform. Now
go right and jump onto the higher mushroom platform and grab the coins. From
here, dodge the red Koopas and then jump onto the next mushroom platform. Dodge
the flying red Koopa and then get onto the lower mushroom platform to your
right to grab some more coins. From here, get onto the higher platform and hit
the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now jump onto the balanced platforms
to your right. Use them to get to two platforms moving up and down and then
jump onto the mushroom platforms for some more coins. Jump across these series
of mushroom platforms to get onto a set of balanced platforms. Use them to jump
across two more sets of balanced platforms. On the third one, jump onto the
mushroom platform to your right and get the coins.
From here, jump across a series of mushroom platforms until we get to a
platform sliding up and down. Use it to jump onto the flagpole to your right so
you can finish the level and enter the castle.
----------
World 4-4
----------
This castle is a mini-maze, meaning you need to take the correct path to get to
the next area or else you'll wind back up in the previous area. Start the level
by going down the stairs and jumping over both lava pits. The maze starts here.
Jump onto the higher platform and run all the way right. You'll see mini gaps,
but don't worry, as long as you're running to the right, you'll run right over
them. Also, watch out for the fire-bars at the end. At the end of this
platform, go right onto the next area. Use the mini platforms to get across the
lava pit and to get onto a higher platform.
For the next part of the maze, go down the gap and drop down to a lower
platform. Now go left and drop down to the ground, and you should be right next
to a lava pit. From here, run right and dodge the fire-bar. If you took the
right path, you should be seeing fireballs coming from the right. Now continue
right and you'll get to a bridge to fight a decoy Bowser. This time, there is a
fire-bar coming out from the lava and a fire-bar swinging on the bridge. Dodge
Bowser's fireballs as well as the other obstacles. Five fireballs or running
under him and hitting the axe will put him to rest. Afterwards, you'll save the
fourth Toad and now we are halfway through the game.
<><><><><>
World 5
<><><><><>
----------
World 5-1
----------
Like World 3-2, this is another great level to stack up points. Start this
level out by going right. Kick the Koopa and then kick its shell to the right.
If you run to follow the shell, this will knock out all of the Goombas and the
Koopas in the way. Now go right and jump over the pipe. Jump over the gap and
the second pipe, but watch out for the Piranha Plant coming out of the pipe.
Now jump on the winged Koopa and then hit him again. Kick his shell and follow
it by running right so it can knock out all of the Koopas and Goombas in your
way. Now jump on the ledge. Out of the three brick blocks above you, the one on
the middle has an Invincibility Star, but don't take it, unless you want to
stack up some more points on your score.
Jump over the gap to land on the platform. On here, knock out the three Goombas
and go right. Jump over the cannon, the gap, and the pole. From here, go right
and avoid all of the Koopas and Goombas, Jump over the pole and go underneath
the brick blocks. Now jump over the gap, the cannon, the pipe, and then the
second cannon. From here, knock out the Koopa and go right to the staircase. Go
up the stairs, get on the higher platform, and then jump on the flagpole to the
right to finish the level.
----------
World 5-2
----------
At the beginning of the level, go right and head up the stairs. At the top,
jump over the cannon and grab the coins in the air if you want them. From here,
go right and use the red spring to bounce over the gap and get on the brick
blocks. The block on the far right on the second level contains a Mushroom/Fire
Flower. Now go right and use the stairs to avoid the Hammer Bros. Now go right
and jump over the pipe, watching out for the Piranha Plant. From here, continue
right and use the stairs to jump over the gap, dodging the Goombas. Now get on
the platform and use it to get on the ground below you. Down here, go right and
wait for the Hammer Bros. to bounce on top of the "?" blocks. Hit the one he's
on to knock him out.
The other "?" blocks contain coins, so hit them if you want to. Now go right
and avoid the flying Koopa and then jump over the cannon. Now jump over the
pipe and we'll get to two Hammer Bros. Wait until they're on the higher brick
blocks and them hit the blocks to knock them out. The brick block on the far
top right has an Invincibility Star. Grab it if you want and then jump over the
gap and pole to your right. Now you'll come to two brick blocks, but they can
only be reached with little Mario unless you duck and slide under them. The one
on the left has multiple coins while the one on the right has a Mushroom/Fire
Flower. Now use the brick blocks to jump over the gap to your right. From here,
get back on the ground and go right, dodging the Goombas and Koopas.
You'll come to a brick block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and then use
the pipe to get over the gaps, dodging the Piranha Plant that comes out of it.
From here, go right up the stairs, watching out for the tiny gaps. At the top,
jump to the right and hit the flagpole to finish the level.
----------
World 5-3
----------
This level is just a carbon copy of World 1-3, except there are Bullet Bills
firing at random times, even without cannons. Start this level by going right
and jumping to the platform to our right. On here, jump onto the next platform.
Take out the Koopa and get the coins if you want on the ledge above you. Now
jump onto the next platform and two Goombas will come from the right. Knock out
both of them and jump on the platform they were on. Jump to the right to get on
a lower platform and we'll see a platform sliding up and down. Use it to get to
the ledge on the right. Bash the "?" block to get a Mushroom/Fire Flower and
then go right. Jump on the higher platform and wait for the Goomba to fall in
the gap. When he does and when the red Koopa is flying low enough, jump on the
higher platform to the right.
Also, get on the platform to the right
and use it to jump on the flagpole, and we'll be in the 5th castle of the game.
----------
World 5-4
----------
This castle is the same as World 2-4, except there are a lot more obstacles in
your way. Start this level by heading down the stairs and going right. You'll
get to a lava pit. Use the platforms to jump over the lava pit, dodging the big
fire-bar and the fireballs shooting out from the lava. Also, don't bother to
get the "?" block, because most likely you'll be hit from the fire-bar. On the
other side of the lava pit, take either path, because both of them have more
fire-bars now. On the other side of the path, jump onto the higher ledge and
use the moving platforms to jump the gap. By this time, fireballs should be
coming from the right, so dodge them. On the other side of the gap, go right
and dodge the fire-bar.
From here, go right and grab the coins if you want them. Now jump over the two
lava pits, dodging all fireballs. Now continue right and we'll get to the
bridge to fight Bowser. Five fireballs out of you or hitting the axe will
finish him. Also, watch out for the two fireballs shooting out of the lava pit.
If you knock him out with fireballs, go hit the axe to save the Toad. Now we'll
move onto World 6, where the game starts to climb in difficulty.
<><><><><>
World 6
<><><><><>
----------
World 6-1
----------
Just like world 3, it's nighttime. Start the level out by going right. Hit the
two "?" blocks for coins and then jump over the gap. Now go right and climb up
the staircase. Now a Lakitu should be coming in to annoy you. If you want, jump
on the brick blocks to knock out Lakitu for the time being. The brick block on
the left at the top of the stairs contains a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now go right
and jump over the gap and brick blocks. Continue right and jump over the next
gap. Grab the coins if you want and then go up the staircase. At the top, jump
over the gap and then use the blocks to get onto the higher platform. If you
knocked him out earlier, Lakitu should be back by now. You're high enough to
hit him again, so jump on him and he'll leave you alone.
Now go right over the gap and then jump over the pipe (watch out for the
Piranha Plant). Continue right and jump up the staircase. Again, Lakitu should
be back, but you can't hit him from here. Hit the "?" block on the left for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now jump over the tiny gap and go up the staircase.
You'll be high enough to hit Lakitu again, so go ahead and knock him out. Now
get back to the ground and continue right. Jump over the gap and use the
staircase to get onto a higher platform. Now jump right onto the flagpole to
finish this level.
----------
World 6-2
----------
The three brick blocks off to your right don't have anything in them, so don't
bother hitting them. Go right and jump over the pipe. Dodge the Koopa and then
jump over the next pipe. Jump over the next two pipes and then go right and
jump over the next pipe. Dodge the Bony Beetle and hit the brick block on the
right for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now jump over the pipe to your right.
Continue right and dodge the Goomba falling from the platform, and then jump
over the next two pipes. From here, jump over a series of pipes until you get
to a set of brick blocks above you. Hit the brick block on the far right and a
vine will pop up. We can't reach it from here, but fall in between the two
small pipes to the left of the brick block. Jump to the left to reveal a hidden
block. Use it to climb up the vine.
You'll be in cloud world. Ride the cloud and grab all of the coins possible,
and then when you're finished, just jump in the large gap to return to the
normal level. From here, just run right and jump over the series of 5 pipes,
dodging the Piranha Plants popping out of them. Now go right and get to the big
staircase. Dodge the Piranha Plant and then at the top, jump onto the flagpole
to the right to finish the level.
----------
World 6-3
----------
Is it me, or was there a coloring problem in this map? From the start, go right
and jump over the three platforms to get to a moving platform. Use it to get on
the platform to the right. Now jump on the next platform and use the red spring
to bounce onto the platform moving left and right. From here, use the moving
platforms on your right until you get to a "?" block. Hit it for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now hop on the platform moving up and down and then jump
onto the next platform. To your right are balanced platforms. Hop on the left
one to make the one on the right go up. Now hop on the right platform and then
jump onto the next weighted platform. Jump to the series of platforms to your
right and then use them to get to a spring. By this time, Bullet Bills will be
randomly shooting from the right, so you'll be dodging those if you need to.
When you get to the red spring, use it to get onto the moving platform. Now
jump on the weighted platforms and then get onto the ledges to your right. From
here, go right and use the ledges to get onto a higher platform. Watch out,
these ledges sink when you walk on them, so you'll need to be fast. Once you
get across the ledges and onto the platform, jump onto the flagpole to your
right to finish the level and enter the castle.
----------
World 6-4
----------
This is just World 1-4, with extra fireballs and fire-bars added to bump up the
difficulty a notch or two. Start the level by going down the stairs and the
jumping over the lava gap. From here, dodge the fire-bar and then get onto the
next platform. Dodge the fire-bar and then hit the "?" block for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now jump onto the next platform. Dodge the fire-bar and
continue to run right until you get to a bigger area, dodging the fire-bars
that get in your way. In this big area, jump over fire-bars on the ground and
dodge the ones above you. After you jump over all of them, fireballs should be
coming from the right.
Go right into a ditch. If you jump around, you'll find hidden coins, but
there's really nothing to them. Just go all the way right and we'll get to the
bridge to fight a fake Bowser. This time, the fake Bowser won't spit fire at
you, but he'll hurl a lot of hammers in your direction. There is also a
fireball coming from beneath the bridge. If you're Fire Mario, five fireballs
will do the trick and then touch the axe. If you're not Fire Mario, run under
Bowser when he jumps and dodge his hammers. Now hit the axe to rescue another
Toad and then we'll move onto World 7.
<><><><>
World 7
<><><><>
----------
World 7-1
----------
Start this level out by going right and jumping over the first three cannons,
dodging the Bullet Bills being fired from them. On top of the third cannon are
brick blocks. Hit the one on the left for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now continue
right and jump over the next cannon and you'll find four "?" blocks. All of
them have coins, so just jump over the next cannon and dodge the flying Koopa.
From here, jump over the next two cannons and you'll get to a set of brick
blocks. The one just to the right of the cannon has multiple coins. Now jump
over the next cannon and then jump over the next gap.
From here, go right and you'll get to two Hammer Bros. You can either jump on
the highest platforms and get past them or wait until they jump onto the brick
blocks and then knock them out from beneath. Afterwards, jump over the pipe and
then continue right. Jump over the cannon and then jump over the next two
pipes, dodging the Piranha Plants inside them. Now jump over the next cannon
and pipe and we'll get to two more Hammer Bros. Knock them out when they jump
onto the highest platforms. After you deal with them, jump over the pole and
the cannon. From here, go right and you'll find a spring and a brick block in
the air. Use the spring to hit the brick block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower.
Now use the big staircase to get onto another big staircase. On the top of this
big staircase, jump on the flagpole on the right to finish the level. We'll see
a cut-scene of Mario entering a warp-pipe after the level is finished.
----------
World 7-2
----------
This is our final water level of the game, and it's a little tough too. From
the start of the level, swim right over the seaweed and grab the coins if you
want to. Continue avoiding the bloopers and continue swimming right. Grab the
coins that you see. Continue swimming right until you get to a gap with three
coins (the Bloopers really get annoying by this part of the level). Swim over
the gap and then keep swimming right. Wait until the Cheep-Cheeps swim by and
make sure the bloopers are out of sight. Now keep swimming right until you get
to another gap, dodging the Cheep-Cheeps and bloopers. Also, grab any coins if
you want them.
When you get to the gap, get the coins if you want to and then swim over the
gap, but watch out, the Cheep-Cheeps can get annoying here. Once you swim over
the gap, swim right and swim over the high platform. Don't even bother getting
the coins in the pit, because the bloopers and cheep-cheeps can trap you in
there pretty easily. Swim over the pit and keep going right. You'll get to an
area of four platforms. At the end is a pipe, so enter it and you'll be
outside. Out here, climb the staircase and at the top, jump onto the flagpole
to the right to finish the level.
----------
World 7-3
----------
This is just like world 2-3, where the cheep-cheeps jump from under the
bridges, but this time it's a lot harder, especially when Cheep-Cheeps appear
more frequently. Start the level out by going right and jumping onto the
bridge. Run all the way right and jump over the Koopa when you see it, dodging
the Cheep-Cheeps leaping from underneath the bridge. Now continue running right
past another Koopa. Grab the coins if you want to and then jump over the gap
onto another bridge. From here, jump over the Koopa and run right. Jump over
the gap to get onto another bridge. Now keep running right and jump onto the
next platform. Hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and dodge the
Cheep-Cheeps, because they can get really annoying here.
Jump onto the treetop to your right. Knock the Koopa off into the gap and then
use the platform to jump onto the next bridge. Run right and grab the coins in
the air. Now jump onto the next bridge and jump over the flying Koopa. From
here, jump onto the next bridge. To your right are platforms. Use the platforms
to get onto another bridge, and then go down the steps. Run right over the gap
and go up the stairs. At the top of the stairs, jump onto the flagpole to enter
the castle and finish the level.
----------
World 7-4
----------
This is like World 4-4, where you must take the correct path to get to Bowser,
otherwise you must start the previous area over again. Start the level out by
going right. Use the two platforms to get across the lava pit, but watch out,
they will sink when stepping on them. Now the maze begins. Take the lower path
and continue right until you get to two platforms. Jump onto the middle
platform and then go right. Now jump onto the higher platform to your right.
From here, you'll get to a higher platform and a lava pit. Jump onto the higher
platform, but watch out for the swinging fire-bar. Run right and you'll get to
another series of platforms.
To do this puzzle, jump onto the high platform to your right. Now jump onto the
middle platform to your right. From here, go right and then jump onto the
higher platform. Now jump on the platform to your right. From here, run all the
way right until fireballs start appearing from the right side of the screen.
Continue right and you'll get to the fake Bowser. Five fireballs will knock him
out, but watch out for his hammers. Also watch out for the fireball popping out
from beneath the bridge. If you are not fire Mario, just wait for Bowser to
drop and hit the axe to drop him into the lava. Now you will rescue Toad and
move onto the final world.
<><><><><>
World 8
<><><><><>
Keep in mind that in world 8, there are no halfway checkpoints like the
previous seven worlds, so if you lose a life, you will start at the beginning
of the level again, no matter how far you've gotten into the level.
----------
World 8-1
---------
This level requires speed and good reaction, and is also a little pain because
time is an issue here. Start the level by going right and jumping over the Bony
Beetle and Goombas. Jump over the pipe and dodge the Piranha Plant. Now run
right and you'll run across the little 1 space gaps. At the end, be sure to
jump and avoid a Koopa. Kick it to the right to knock out the Goombas in your
way. From here, go right and jump over the next four pipes. Now dodge the three
Goombas and jump over the small pipe. Kick the first Koopa to knock out the
second Koopa. From here, jump over the next pipe and jump over the 3 Goombas.
Now jump over the pole and jump on top of the brick blocks to avoid the Flying
Koopa.
Now jump over the next pole and then run to the right until you get to a set of
brick blocks. Don't worry, when you run, those gaps aren't big enough for you
to fall in. When you get to the brick blocks, hit the third block on the left
for an Invincibility Star to come out. Grab it and run all the way right until
you get to a pole. Jump over the pole and then run right and jump over the
large gap. Now knock out the three Goombas and jump over the pipes. From here,
keep going right and use the Bony Beetle to knock out the three other Goombas.
Keep going right and you'll get to a staircase. Jump over the staircase and
then jump over the gap to get to a small platform. While holding B, run to the
right and jump over the next gap.
Now jump over the next two poles and you'll get to another gap. Jump over it
and you'll land on a thin platform, but don't stop. Jump onto the ground to
your right while getting over the large gap. From here, run right and jump over
the next two pipes. By this time, you should be running low on time, but just
jump on the three poles to get to a bigger platform. Now jump on the flagpole
to the right to finish the level.
----------
World 8-2
----------
At the beginning of the level, go right and Laktiu will appear. He shouldn't be
a big problem right now, but wait for the two flying Koopas to fly into the
small gap. Now go up the large staircase. At the top, knock out Laktiu and then
get on the ground to your right. From here, go right and you'll get to a
spring. Use the spring to hit the brick block above you. A 1-up Mushroom will
pop up, so go right and follow it, dodging the Koopas bouncing around to your
right. Pick up the 1-up Mushroom and then jump over the sets of cannons to your
right. You'll come to two brick blocks. Hit the one on the right for a
Mushroom/Fire Flower and then jump over the next few sets of cannons.
Keep jumping to the right and you'll get to a pipe. Jump over this pipe and
then walk to the next pipe until you bump into it. Now, go as far left as you
can go, run onto the pipe, and while you're running, jump over the large gap to
get onto the platform to your right. From here, jump over the next two pipes,
the three flying Koopas, and the cannon and then you'll get to a staircase. Use
the staircase to jump over the cannon. Now get on the staircase to your right
and use it to get on a platform. Now jump onto the flagpole to your right to
finish the level.
----------
World 8-3
----------
This is probably the easiest of the world 8 levels. Start the level by going
right and then jumping over the cannon. Now go right and jump over the next
cannon. From here, go right and you'll get to a pipe. Jump over it and you'll
get to two Hammer Bros. and a set of brick blocks. Wait until they are on the
higher platforms and knock them off. Once they're both gone, jump onto the
first layer of brick blocks. Hit the second block on the right for a much
needed Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now jump on the staircase to your right and use it
to get onto the ground to your right. From here, go right and jump over the
cannon and two poles and you'll get to another set of Hammer Bros. Either use
your Fire Flower to burn them up or bash them on the brick blocks from beneath.
After both Hammer Bros. are gone, get on the first set of brick blocks. Now hit
the second block on the left for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and go right.
Jump over the pipe and continue going right. Jump over the Koopa and then run.
Jump over the first Hammer Bros. or use your Fire Flower on it. Now keep
running and jump over the next Hammer Bros. or use your Fire Flower on it. From
here, jump over the pipe and jump over the next Hammer Bros. while you're
running, or use your Fire Flower. Do the same with the next Hammer Bros. and
then use the small platforms to get to a bigger platform. Now jump on the
flagpole to the right to enter the final castle of the game.
----------
World 8-4
----------
This is like World 4-4 and World 7-4, except you just need to take the correct
pipe to get to the next area. Start out this level by jumping over the large
lava pit. From here, go right and jump over the series of pipes until you get
to a lava pit. Use the moving platform to get across the lava pit and then
you'll get to a pipe. Enter this pipe. In this area, go right and jump over the
series of pipes until you get to another lava pit. Jump over this lava pit and
knock out the bouncing Koopas around your area. Now you'll see a pipe above
you, but it is too high for you to reach. Jump around to the left of the warp
pipe to reveal a hidden block with a coin. Use this block to get to the pipe
and enter it.
This area features Cheep-Cheeps leaping out of nowhere, but they shouldn't be a
real problem. Continue jumping over the series of pipes until you get to a lava
pit. Jump over the lava pit and then enter the first pipe after the lava pit.
You'll be taken to an underwater area. Simply swim to the right until you get
to a pipe, dodging the bloopers and fire-bars. When you get to the pipe, enter
it. Now, go right and if you are Fire Mario, use a fireball to knock out the
Hammer Bros and then jump over the lava gap. Otherwise, wait very patiently
until it jumps and then quickly jump over the lava pit to get to the real
Bowser.
This time, he shoots fireballs AND throws hammers. Fire fireballs to him will
get rid of him for good. Otherwise, wait until he jumps and then quickly run
under him to touch the axe, dodging his fireballs and hammers. Don't worry,
there are no fireballs popping out from the bridge either. After you defeat
Bowser, Mario will rescue Princess Peach for the worst ending in the world. She
gives us a new quest so we can capture her again!?
Anyhow, the new quest just has Bony Beetles replacing all Goombas throughout
the game, and the moving platforms are now even smaller. Even if you beat this
new question, she'll present you the same quest.
===========
7. Secrets
===========
The "Real" Bowser: Each time you defeat Bowser with a Fire Flower, you'll
notice it's a fake and another enemy in disguise:
World 1: Goomba
World 2: Koopa
World 3: Bony Beetle
World 4: Spiny
World 5: Lakitu
World 6: Blooper
World 7: Hammer Bros.
World 8: Bowser
New Quest: Just simply beat the game and Peach will present you with this new
quest, in which Bony Beetles replace Goombas and platforms are much shorter.
Warp Zone #1: In World 1-2, there are platforms moving upwards near the end of
the level. Use them to get on top of the brick blocks to your right. Now run
all the way right and you'll get to a secret area. There are three pipes. From
right to left, the pipes take you to Worlds, 2, 3, and 4.
Warp Zone #2: In World 4-2, at the end of the level, use the moving platforms
to get onto the brick blocks to your right. From here, just run right until you
get to another secret area. This time, there is only one warp pipe, and it will
take you to world 5.
Warp Zone #3: In World 4-2, there is a gap near with moving platforms near the
beginning of the level. To the right of the platforms are brick blocks. Try to
hit the brick block on the left for a vine to come out. If not, go underneath
the brick block on the right. Jump to reveal a hidden block and get on it. If
you are Big Mario, bash the brick block above you and carefully move to the
left. Jump to bash the middle brick block. Now get under where the brick block
used to be and jump to reveal another hidden block. Get on this one (DO NOT GET
ON IT FROM THE LEFT SIDE) and hit the left block for a vine. Climb it to get to
an outside area similar to World 4-3. Grab the coins if you want and then run
right to get to another warp zone. From left to right, the pipes take you to
Worlds 6, 7, and 8.
Fireworks: When you get to the end of the level and touch the flagpole, make
sure there is either a 1, 3, or 6 on the ones digit on the timer. The amount of
fireworks you get corresponds to that number. Each firework adds 500 points to
your score.
Avoiding Bloopers: In the water levels, stay on the ground. The bloopers will
never hit you while you're walking, plus they will move in the direction Mario
is facing.
Secret Vines: Some hard to reach brick blocks often have secret vines. When you
find them, climbing them will let you to go a bonus cloud world, where you can
ride a cloud and go on platforms to get several coins. At the end, just jump in
the large gap and you'll return to a different part of the level.
Secret Underground Areas: Some warp pipes will take you to underground areas,
where you can get several coins. Sometimes, a power-up will be hidden in a
brick block too. Entering the pipe in the underground will take you to another
part of the level. Sometimes, going down pipes while playing a level will take
you to an underwater area, where you must dodge bloopers and such and get to a
pipe to take you to another part of the level.
===============
8. Multiplayer
===============
On Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros., multiplayer is possible. For the
requirements, you need two GameBoy Advances, at least one Classic NES Series:
SMB carts, as well as a GameBoy Advance link cable. Once you got that hooked
up, select 2 Player Mode. Mario and Luigi alternate in this game. When one
character finishes a level and loses a life, the other character will play his
turn and try to go through the current or the next level. If you want 5 extra
lives and you're all by yourself, you can do this to help you out throughout
the game.
Also, while the game is paused during single player, you can press L+R at the
same time to bring up a menu. Go to linked play and select start.
Multiplayer in this game is nothing big, but since this is on a handheld, I
thought I'd make a section for it. Also, good luck trying to find 2 legit
copies of this game. It's extremely rare around my area and I was so joyful to
find this sitting at Gamestop one time.
