I. Intro

According to Konami, their latest Castlevania release promises to push
Castlevania in new directions. With a new spell fusion system and no Dracula
(!) as the main villain, one might wonder if this is still a Castlevania game.
Not all things are as new as they seem, though. Purists who enjoyed Circle of
the Moon's simplified Symphony of the Night gameplay may be a bit disappointed
here, as KCET opted for the full Symphony of the Night treatment. Huge areas,
numerous graphical effects, and gameplay much more true to Symphony of the
Night round out this splendid game. The music has taken a bit of a hit
because of the graphical effects, and the game may be a bit *too* bright and
colorful at time (purple in a Castlevania game?), but Konami have done a
remarkable job in terms of presentation and extras. Unlike Circle of the
Moon, whose only secrets were the "bonus" modes, Harmony of Dissonance
features TONS of secrets that just may support Konami's claim that HoD is
twice as big as SotN.
Note that this is not a walk-through in any way. This exists solely so
that you can be prepared for upcoming enemies and/or find out what they drop
before you spend countless hours trying to make them drop something. It took
quite a while to compile this information, so please do not steal it.

II. Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What's with the Tolerances/Weaknesses fields?
A. Quite a few enemies have elemental tolerances and/or weaknesses. In this
game 4 elements exist:
Fire Ice
Thunder Wind
To be honest I never understood why Thunder and Wind would exist as
separate elements, since it's usually one or the other, but at least they
didn't have Ice and Water in the same game.
Mike F. was kind enough to offer the following:
"You commented in your FAQ for Castlevania: Harmony on
Dissonance that you didn't understand why Thunder and
Wind were considered different elements. The Japanese
do this because they equate thunder and lightning more
closely with Earth as a cross between Earth and Wind,
where as the Greek elements traditionally consider
Lightning to be composed of Air alone.
As with the Greeks, Japanese based their knowledge on
what they experienced, which is why they refer to the
element as Wind instead Air. Wind is easier to
experience when it's blowing. Therefore (for them)
there wasn't air but Wind.
Hope this helps you understand it a little better :)"

Umm, back to the point, to exploit these elemental weaknesses, you can
either:
1) Use the various colored "Stone" whips:
Blue Stone - Ice
Green Stone - Wind
Red Stone - Fire
Yellow Stone - Thunder
2) Use Spell Books in tandem with your sub-weapons to cast elemental spells
Ice Spell Book
Wind Spell Book
Fire Spell Book
Thunder Spell Book
Note that the Summon Book does not cast elemental spells (as far as I
know). Also, some combinations produce item crushes rather than elemental
spells (Thunder+Cross for instance).
I'm not sure how much extra damage is done when elemental weaknesses are
exploited, but you can check one of the excellent FAQ/Walkthroughs at
gamefaqs.com to see if one of them explains it.
Q. Where can I find the Rare Ghost?
A. The Rare Ghost only appears in a couple of areas, and in those areas he
only has a 15% chance of appearing when you enter. Find him, beat him, and
hope that you pick up one of his items. Look at his profile for more info.
Q. I can't seem to get any of the Drop Items you listed.
A. As in previous games, Luck affects the rate at which enemies will drop
items. Find something that will increase your Luck (one of the Relics adds
20 to Luck) or simply level up. Remember that not all enemies will drop
items and some only drop one type of item.
Q. How do you open up the in-game Encyclopedia?
A. Obtain the Monster Tome Relic and set it to On. Defeat enemies to make
them show up in the Encyclopedia. Next, go to the Pause Menu and select
Secret Info. Choose Encyclopedia to view the monsters that you've
defeated. Note that Drop Items are revealed only after you have actually
gotten the enemy to drop that item.
Q. Is that skeleton who I think it is?
A. If you're referring to the skeleton with a whip and headband (not to
mention the skeleton capable of kicking your butt easily), you must be
talking about "Simon." The name refers to Simon Belmont, arguably the
most popular Belmont (Sonia needs another game!). It's also a very clever
name. In the game, its name is written in Japanese characters called
Kanji. The Kanji literally translates into Death Gate, but it's pronounced
Shimon, or in romaji, Simon. It's nice to see some wit come from the
people who came up with "Peeping Big."
Naturally, KoA decided to forego any wit and simply named him "Simon
Wraith."
Q. Am I wrong, or are there 2 "Skeletons" listed in the Monster Encyclopedia?
Yes, No. 6 and 93 are both sounded out Sukeruton, or in English, Skeleton.
However No. 93 has a little pun involved. In Japanese, Sukeru means
Transparent, so Sukeruton the way it's spelled in 93 would mean Transparent
Skeleton. Again, another fun play on words.
Once again, KoA messed up the punniness by naming it "Clear Bone."

Q. I think you might be mistaken, since Dracula IS in this game.
A. Yes, I was already aware, but I didn't want to spoil it for anyone. It
looks like Konami lied to us after all. While Draccy isn't the main
villain this time around, he is the true final boss.
Q. So how do I fight the lord of darkness?
A. Make sure you've collected all of the Dracula Relics. Next, equip the
Juste Bracelet and the Maxim Bracelet on both arms. Go to the "2nd Castle"
and fight Maxim as normal. After you defeat him, you'll resurrect the dark
prince.
