This FAQ is Copyright of Matthew Stephenson (Ringworm), 2005. The following
sites are the only ones that have permission to host ANY of my FAQs:

www.gamefaqs.com
www.neoseeker.com

Want to host this FAQ? Found it on another site not listed above? Let me know:

ringwormrulez[at]gmail[dot]com

I may let you host it. Ask. The only requirement is you post the ENTIRE FAQ,
UNEDITED. No changing any of it, and it has to be all there. Try to keep it
updated as well; the most recent version will always be found at GameFAQs.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION BEFORE HOSTING THIS! If not, you are in breach
of the law. Obviously, you can not make profit from this guide by selling it or
anything similar. Once again this is illegal. You can make a copy for personal
usage though if you're that way inclined. I got no problems with that. It's
your printer ink and paper you are wasting.

Got a question or got some info you feel should be included? Again the best way
to contact me is by emailing:

ringwormrulez[at]gmail[dot]com

I may take a while to respond, just letting you know. Also, make sure what you
want to ask is not covered already. Generally, I respond to anybody that needs
help. If I feel the FAQ makes it perfectly clear, and you just haven't read it
properly though, I may not.

IF YOU DO EMAIL ME: Include the game name, or something that makes it obvious
what it's about. I will NOT read ANY emails with attachments, or ones with no
subject line.

I'd like to take some time to thank the people that have helped with this
guide. Firstly, I'd like to thank Lucasfilm Games, US Gold and Sega for making
the game. The webmasters that host this FAQ should get a bit of credit too I
guess, as you wouldn't be reading this otherwise. I'd also like to thank you,
the reader, for choosing this guide, and I hope I helped in some way.

The movie that this game is based on is one of the all time classics that I am
sure most people reading this FAQ has either seen, or at least heard of. This
game however is relatively obscure, and underplayed. This is mainly due to the
games length, and difficulty. It comprises six short levels that never change
on later play throughs. The game is also fairly difficult: you will die fairly
frequently until you memorise how to get past that section of the game.

Each of the levels take place in a location from the movie, but it is mostly
jumping across ropes and platforms, climbing ladders and using your whip or
fist to dispatch of one of a few types of enemy. It is still quite fun the
first time through, and the levels have enough variety to keep you entertained.
Your quest is to find the Holy Grail, like in the movie. Can you do it? If you
read this FAQ, I'm sure you'll have a much better shot at it.

The game is for one player.

Left/right - makes Indy move in this direction.
Up/down – use these to ascend/descend ladders and ropes. Down will also make
Indy duck to avoid bullets.

Button 1 – Punch, or if you have a whip, swing it.

Button 2 – Jump.

Try to memorise each level, where you need to jump, and where you should fall
instead, where enemies will appear, and where the whips are located. It will
really help for the next time you play through the game.

Don't worry about the timer. In a few sections, it is a bit of a concern (one
section of the 3rd scene has a VERY tight time limit for example, I find it
impossible), but generally, as long as you don't waste too much time, you
should have plenty of time left to spare. Make sure you do grab each timer
though, as you will not make it to the next one otherwise.

The bonus items are not essential; you can make it through the game without
getting them. They are all easy enough to obtain within the time limit though,
so you may as well grab them for a few extra points.

Don't waste your whips. The game is MUCH harder without them, and they are
essential for a few parts of the fourth scene.

Levels in this game consist of you finding eggtimers. These reset the timer,
and act as checkpoints, you continue your game from around that point if you
lose a life. In the following, I have broken the description for each scene
into paragraphs. Each paragraph is equivalent to a section of the scene,
starting and ending at a checkpoint.

SCENE: Caves
OBJECTIVE: Cross of Coronado (500 points)
TIME PER HOURGLASS: 80

Despite the fact in the film, Indy was only a boy, you are an adult playing
this scene (and the next). Anyway, drop down to the right, then jump of this
platform to the left. Punch the Indian, and jump across to the rope. Climb down
and walk to the right. Jump and climb the next rope, then head right across the
crumbling bridge (don't fall). You will pass over a gunman, just ignore him.
Grab the whip, head right until you reach a pile of bricks. Duck. After the
gunman shoots once, stand up and quickly whip him. Continue right, and when you
can see the hourglass, duck again. Wait for a shot, stand and whip the gunman
(you'll be doing this a lot, don't worry), then grab the hourglass.

Jump to the ropes above the water (Indy can't swim, so don't fall!). You need
to jump from rope to rope. As you jump, you will grab the next rope higher up,
so you will need to slide down to the bottom of the rope before jumping to the
next one. You also need to be careful not to fall into the water while doing
this (it's easy to do). Jump across five ropes to reach the other side. Walk
right and whip the gunman (no need to duck this time)! Jump to the rope and
climb up. You will see four ropes hanging to your left, with men climbing up
and down two of them. You need to make your way across to the top left of these
ropes. The jumps are easy, just avoid the men (if you stay on the right hand
one until you are above them, then keep moving, you won't get hit). There is an
area off to the top right as well – this is a dead end, so ignore it. Once you
reach the top left platform, you will see the hourglass, simply jump the pots
and walk left to reach it.

Walk to the left, and drop off the edge of the platform. Ignore the Indian
completely here, if you didn't stop at all on the upper platform, you'll be
fine. Saves a whip too. Walk off these small platforms to the right and jump to
the rope. Climb down. Walk to the left, jump the pots, and as you get to the
checkpoint, use your whip to kill a gunman.

Continue left, jump the pots, then notice the cross flashing near the top of
the screen. Ignore it, you can't get it just yet. Continue right, up a rope and
across another crumbling bridge. Left a bit is a whip pickup, grab it and use a
whip immediately. You should hit the gunman. Climb the rope on the left of
screen, jump to the platform on your right, and the rope to the right of the
platform. Be careful climbing this rope – there's a man climbing down it that
you can't touch. Climb as far up as you can (don't hesitate on this rope), then
jump to the platform on the right.

********* OPTIONAL: Get the Cross of Coronado *********

After the man on the rope climbs down, jump back onto the rope, then across
into the gap on the right of screen. Go to the right hand side of this area,
jumping the pot and the gaps. You will see an hourglass, grab it.

Jump to the rope on the right, climb down and jump across to the Cross of
Coronado. You'll need to do a little bit of backtracking to get to where the
optional section started, but it's not too hard. Make sure you don't fall
through the gap where the bridge crumbled away though, or you'll lose a life.

                   ********* END OPTIONAL SECTION *********

Nearly at the end of the level now. Jump to the right hand rope, avoiding the
man, then jump to the rope off to the left. Climb this to near the top, but
jump to the right when you can, onto a rope directly above the one the man is
climbing on. Jump off this rope to the right at the top to reach the exit.

SCENE: Circus Train
OBJECTIVE: None
TIME PER HOURGLASS: 60

Walk to the right, as soon as you get to the second carriage, whip a gunman (if
you didn't lose a life, you should have 3 whips to start this level, 4 if you
didn't get the cross. If you run out, punch instead). Jump to the third
carriage, and whip the Indian. The fourth carriage has a rhino horn rising
through the roof, it's easy to avoid. Jump it and grab the whips. The next
carriage has two rhino horns, and it's easy to lose a life, or a lot of health
if you are not careful. Walk a bit back to the left before jumping each one to
avoid them. The next carriage has a giraffe's head that pokes up and down.
These can be a real pain to avoid – you need to time your jumps well. Continue
right to the next carriage for a handy eggtimer.

Jump the gap to another carriage, and whip the Indian from the lower pile of
logs. Jump to the next carriage, whip another Indian. There's nothing on the
next carriage, but there is another giraffe in the one after that. The next one
has the second eggtimer for the level – this was a pretty easy section really.

There is nothing on the first carriage after the timer, so hurry across. The
jump here can be a bit annoying though, I sometimes mess it up, not sure why.
The next two carriages both have Indians on a higher section, so whip them from
the lower section as you did earlier. Jump the rhino horn in the next carriage,
and a giraffe in the one after that. Walk across another carriage, jump one
final gap and you'll be at the end of the scene. Quite short, yes.

SCENE: Underground Tomb
OBJECTIVE: Knight's Shield (500 points)
TIME PER HOURGLASS: 80

This scene is slightly random, so I cannot give you an exact walkthrough.
During this stage, fireballs will fall from the top of the screen (you'll see
them for a second or so before they fall). These do not have an exact pattern,
so I can't tell you exactly how to avoid them.

Anyway, for the first part, you need to walk to the right, avoiding fireballs,
and jumping a gap, until you reach a rope on the far side. There are two ways
to do this part: slowly, stepping back slightly when you see fireballs, or to
just run to the right, jumping continuously, right across the screen (which is
fairly risky). Surprisingly, this second method works fairly well, as you
rarely get hit. It is the way I do it, as the first section here is quite long
– the time limit can be an issue. Climb down the rope at the end, walk slightly
left and climb another rope up. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO JUMP LEFT UNTIL YOU REACH
THE TOP! You can't reach the next rope over that you can see. Jump to the left,
making sure you don't land on the rat. More fireballs will fall in this
section, and you also need to avoid the rat. It is better to touch the rat than
the fireballs though, as fire kills you instantly, rats don't. Jump across the
gap, and continue left, avoiding a rat and one or two fireballs. Climb down the
rope and walk right. You should be VERY short on time here, so do running jumps
to the right to avoid the fireballs, and jump the skull pit (this kills you
instantly). Walk to the rope, then let the timer run out – I honestly believe
this section is impossible to do without losing a life – I've never managed it.
If you make it past the skull pit, you should restart from there. *Note* I
believe there is a timer that you see in the part where I said you shouldn't
get tempted to jump. This disappears every time for me.

Walk to the right, climb down the rope and jump off it to the left. Head left,
avoiding the rats, and jump a gap to get some more whips. Drop down the gap you
just jumped (it'll make you lose one or two bars of health – shouldn't be a
major issue – if so, there's a rope just to the left, but this'll take a bit
longer). Head right. There is SOMETIMES a flaming rat here (often it's not
there), jump it, then jump to the rope, climb down. If you walk right (don't
bother doing it, just saying), you will see the shield. You can't get it yet,
so don't bother. At the bottom of the rope, head left. There will be one or two
flaming rats, jump these and grab the timer.

Fall off the edge, and head right at the bottom. You can use the rope, but it's
slower. You should only lose one bar of health anyway. Jump the flaming rats,
fire pits and skull pits to get to a low rope on the far right. You will see a
few ropes before this, but they are too high to jump to. Climb the rope, and
make your way up and left. You should see the shield on the left here – it
takes about 2 seconds to grab on your way past, so there's no real point
missing it. Avoid one more flaming rat, the exit is just to the right of it, on
top of the coffin.

                 6.04. Scene 4                            (IJSC4)
                _________________________________________________

SCENE: Castle Walls
OBJECTIVE: None
TIME PER HOURGLASS: 50

Grab the whip to your right if you want (you should have 5 whips anyway, but
it'll get you 200 points). Climb the ladder to a higher ledge, then make your
way to the right. You can get across the first gap by grabbing the ladders,
just past the flaming rat is a fireball – this can be hard to avoid. Use the
rope on the right to climb up anyway. At the top, jump across to your left
across a few ropes, and you will see the first hourglass. Grab it, being
careful of the rat.

Climb the rope next to the hourglass, and get off to the left. Walk to the
right hand side of this ledge (next to the rope) and use your whip to get
across the gap to the right. Avoid the flaming rat, and jump to the ladders on
the right. Climb the ladder, and work your way up the ledges to the left,
passing another flaming rat. Whip on the left, cross to the other side and grab
the hourglass. You'll need to avoid a fireball just before the hourglass too.
Make sure you don't fall when getting this hourglass, as it is on the very edge
of a gap. You won't have time if you do fall.

Jump to the ladders, climb up and jump to the right. Jump to the ledge (you
need to jump from about the middle of the doorway – it's easy to miss this
jump), then climb up and get off onto the ledge at the top. Climb the rope,
jump off to the right at the top. Whip your way across the final gap, avoid the
two flaming rats as best as possible, and head to the open doorway at the top
to finish the level.

                 6.05. Scene 5                            (IJSC5)
                _________________________________________________

SCENE: Zeppelin
OBJECTIVE: Grail Diary (500 points)
TIME PER HOURGLASS: 80

Done correctly, you will only have to worry about one enemy in this level. Not
sure if this is a glitch, or intentional, but as long as you don't run out of
time, you will have no problems (except for going the wrong way) in this level.

Climb the ladder next to you where you start, go left at the top, and climb
halfway up the next ladder. Wait for the gunman walking above the ladder to
pass to the left, then head right and up another ladder. Walk left on this
platform, up a ladder and walk right to the hourglass.

After climbing the ladder to the right of the hourglass, you should see the
diary at the top of screen. You can't reach it from where you are now, but it's
not too hard to get to. Getting the diary is optional, but it's also easy
enough to do within the time limit. Walk to the right, ignore the first ladder
heading down, and a bit further on is a ladder leading up. Climb this, walk to
the left and grab the diary. You can then walk back to the ladder leading down
that you walked past earlier (you can go straight down this ladder the first
time you get to it if you don't want to get the diary). Once there, climb down
the ladder. Walk right at the bottom, climb a ladder, walk right a bit further,
climb another ladder (yes, there's a lot of ropes and ladders to climb in this
game – I told you that at the start). At the top of this ladder, walk to the
right to reach the second hourglass.

Down the ladder, go right, down another ladder and head left. Go down the
ladder you come across, walk left a little way and go down the FIRST ladder you
come to. The second ladder means a longer path, and the time limit here is
quite short. Go right to the bottom of the ladder and walk left past the seats.
Climb the ladder on the left, make a small step right and climb this ladder
too. Left at the top, down the ladder as far as possible. Walk off the ledge on
the far left and grab the hourglass. Note this one sometimes vanishes – if this
happens, you'll run out of time. You'll start just above this point if you do.

Go down the ladder next to the timer and head right through a passenger
compartment. Go up the ladder on the far right. At the top, walk right and up
another ladder. Head right and fall down a gap (there MAY be a gunman here if
you lost a life earlier), go down the ladder (the last ladder in the game!) to
the biplane to finish the scene.

                _________________________________________________

SCENE: Hidden Cavern
OBJECTIVE: The Holy Grail (500 points)
TIME PER HOURGLASS: 90

There are no checkpoints in this level, and no timers – if you lose a life, you
restart at the beginning. Luckily, it's not too long.

Jump the first few gaps until you get to a dirt section with moving pendulums.
These are pretty hard to avoid, you can though by moving up and down. You can
also jump over them, but this is quite tough. There are two here to get past,
then a lot more gaps to jump. Once you get past the word spelled out (you don't
need to stand on each letter), move either up or down to avoid a gap in the
middle of the area. A few more gaps, more pendulums (try to time your jumps to
avoid these ones), make sure you are on the TOP as you avoid the second one.
You will see a bunch of letters just past this. Step on the letters you saw
earlier, or you will lose a life (they spell out the name of the lord – IEHOVA,
as anybody who has seen the movie should know). You don't need to step on all
the letters, only stepping on incorrect letters (J or L) will cause you to die.
Make sure you grab the grail while you are here! It's actually fairly hard to
miss. You still get the same ending even if you don't grab the grail though.
Past the grail are two more gaps, make it past these and you should finish the
level with a few seconds to spare. Enjoy the wonderful ending to the game,
you've earned it! OK, it's not all that great, but hey, you've finished –
that's good enough.

As this is the initial release, obviously, I haven't been asked any questions
yet. If you need more help, send me an email, and I'll happily respond!

Q: What happens if you miss one of the items (i.e. the cross)?
A: Not much. You will just get a lower score.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: I keep running out of whips, and can't get through a particular section. Is
there anything I can do?
A: You really need to conserve your whips, there's no way to carry more than
five though. Done correctly, not missing any of the pickups, if you don't die,
you should never have this problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Q: Shouldn't whips be unlimited use?
A: You would think so, yes... unfortunately they aren't.

Play through the game once, then put it back on a shelf and never touch it
again. It'll probably take you a few hours to get through the game, with a few
resets, less if you are using an emulator. It's got its flaws, but it is not a
bad game compared to some movie-based games I've played. Worth a try,
especially if you are a fan of the film. It is a good game to play if you are
looking for a short game that can be beaten within a day.
