i. Introduction: What is BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG (INTRO)
--------------------------------------------------------
BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG is the second-to-last (Or perhaps
third-to-last) event you will open up in Story mode. It
is so completely different from the rest of the game
that you cannot play it at all in the same manner as you
normally would.
TO UNLOCK BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG...
-Finish Riddle of the Incan Empire
-Finish Viewtiful Cartoon World
-Finish Captain Blue Begins
-Finish Truth of the Black Film
-Finish Gulliver's Battles
-Finish Atlantis: Four Adventures of the Sea
-Finish Les Acteurs Incroyable
-Collect V-Puzzles 1-6
-Finish Riddle of the Incan Empire - Special Edition
-Finish Viewtiful Cartoon World - Special Edition
-Finish Captain Blue Begins - Special Edition
-Finish Truth of the Black Film - Special Edition
-Finish Gulliver's Battles - Special Edition
-Finish Atlantis: Four Adventures of the Sea - Special Edition
Sounds like a lot of work? Well, it sort of is, but
not really. By the time you unlock this, you will have
unlocked, at the very LEAST, Sprocket, Rachel, and all
six Unhenshined characters. You'll also have unlocked
the Special Edition stages for Reels 1-6.
So what is BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG? It's simple. Your
single character - ENTIRELY BY HIMSELF (And this is the
reason it's so unique - no other time in the game will
you be by yourself) - will have to take on and defeat
all 7 Major Boss Battles in the game. You just have to
win the fights by taking down the boss' health - you don't
have to score really high or anything. However, you have
to avoid dying once during each battle, or you'll have to
start that battle over again (The 'Don't Fall Down Once'
condition')
Now, you're probably asking yourself: Why should I
bother doing all this work, and completing one of the
hardest competitions in the game? First off, you will
instantly recieve a new character: Dark Hero Jet Black.
You will also unlock the last Special Edition stage -
the Special Edition of 7-B... Lastly, you will open up
the last Story competition: 'Red Hot Rumble', after which
you will unlock Fighter Bianky and Friends.
Besides that, it's awesomely fun! So pick a character
and start fighting!
--------------------------------------------------------
iv. Boss Strategies (BOSS0)
--------------------------------------------------------
This section covers the information you need to know
about the bosses in BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG, including their
patterns and the general manner in which you will be
kicking their asses. Even knowing this information will
allow you to perform better against them, whether in
BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG or in actual competitions...
--------------------------------------------------------
1-B) Viracocha (BOSS1)
Riddle of the Incan Empire
Treasure Guardian Viracocha
--------------------------------------------------------
Attacks:
-He will charge up his swords with electricity. This
will prevent you from hitting him without a VFX Power
or ranged attack.
-He likes to jump around, but it's fairly easy to
judge where he's going to jump to.
-If four Alert markers appear on the ground next to
him, run away. He will throw his swords up, and then
they will land at those spots. This leaves his swords
out in the open (See further down)
-If a large 'DANGER' marker scrolls in a direction, he
will either charge in that direction, or throw his swords.
If he does the latter, see further down.
-He will jump off-screen after throwing his swords, and
then he will come back and charge them up again.
Basic, isn't he? The core idea is to wait for him to
throw his swords. Then, take them out with any attack.
When he goes to charge up his swords, he will get fried
and stunned - this is your chance to deal major damage.
After that, just retreat and wait for another chance
to beat him senseless...
--------------------------------------------------------
2-B) Hulk Davidson (BOSS2)
Viewtiful Cartoon World
Hulk Davidson is in Town
--------------------------------------------------------
Attacks:
-Jumps around. There's a shockwave near where he lands,
so be sure to jump yourself
-A couple Alert markers appear, and then he swings his
axe. Just jump over it.
-Lowers his head, then charges forward. Jump over him
and he will charge into the wall, the big idiot, and stun
himself, just like in the first Viewtiful Joe.
-Stomps the ground. The back of the area will open up,
and a couple missiles will fly towards you.
-After being stunned, his axe will fall down towards
him. This can hurt you. If you're attacking when he
catches it, he will throw it at you.
-If you try to attack him, he will usually block it.
This guy is so easy it's ridiculous. Seriously! Use
the X button to do a normal attack on a nearby Bianky
or other character, to knock him/her/it into the Hulk.
He'll be stunned. Run over and wail on him, until you
see his axe falling. Just run and grab it. If the
missiles come towards you, hit those, and they'll lock
onto him instead, hit him, and stun him...
--------------------------------------------------------
3-B) Fire Leo & Frost Tiger (BOSS3)
Captain Blue Begins
Super Brothers
--------------------------------------------------------
TEAM:
Fire Leo and Frost Tiger switch on and off. Fire Leo
goes in first and has the top Life meter, Frost Tiger
comes in second and has the bottom Life meter. When you
take out one, the other will come in, and you'll no
longer be able to stun them...
FIRE LEO:
Attacks (On Field):
-Spits Fireballs at you. Just dodge
-Blocks your attacks for a brief period of time. Keep
hitting him and the shield will break.
-Slashes at you
-When near death/Solo, he'll go to one end of the screen
and start spinning. He'll fire off a lot of fireballs,
so try your best to dodge them.
Attacks (Supporting):
-Shoots five fireballs at you. These can be in a
horizontal line, a vertical line, or in a circle. You
can see them coming, though, so dodge.
-Shoots up several hot boulders. Avoid them when they
drop, then punch them into Frost Tiger to stun him.
FROST TIGER:
Attacks (On Field):
-Does a three-slash combo. Stay away, or jump over
him.
-Runs to the edge of the area, flips, and then smashes
the ground, causing ice to shoot up in front of him
along the whole length of the field. Jump when you see
him starting this move, and stay in the air as long as
possible. He'll only do this if he's the last one on
the field, or near death.
Attacks (Supporting):
-Fires in rings of ice either high or low. Just try
to keep an eye out for them, as they're hard to see,
but they don't have a great area of effect...
-Throws up several snowballs. Avoid them when they
drop, then punch them into Fire Leo to stun him.
Since Fire Leo doesn't do his boulder-throwing until
Frost Tiger is nearly dead, you'll more than likely beat
up Fire Leo first. Stun him using the snowballs, then
beat the living heck out of him. After that, it's just
a matter of hitting Frost Tiger hard enough to stop his
attacks before he can massacre you, and dodging them...
On BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG, this is the second-hardest
battle, as you have two bosses to deal with... To deal
the most damage to these idiots, use Zoom whenever
possible. Just remember to jump over fireballs...
--------------------------------------------------------
4-B) Kuwaga (BOSS4)
Truth of the Black Film
Bouncer
--------------------------------------------------------
Attacks:
-Teleports around. Not an attack, but very annoying.
-He'll jump into the air, and swing around. Three
arrows will shoot from straight down to diagonally
down-forward, and will then explode.
-Jumps to the center, then Alert markers appear all
around him. He'll fire arrows in all directions, then
all of them will explode. Go to a bottom corner of the
map for best protection.
-Splits into four images. Three will turn into bombs
and an item pickup when hit, damaging you, but the other
is real. If you wait for a few moments, the fakes will
dissolve and just leave behind the items. If you hit
him as he goes to make the images, they will all shatter
instantly. Don't be below them or you'll take heavy
damage from the bombs, but all the items will instantly
drop down.
-Flies off screen. A chain of Alert markers will then
appear - he will fly through and grab you along that
path, so avoid it!
-After flying in, he will begin to charge up energy.
He is most vunleurable at this time. After, he will
teleport around. Then a large Alert marker will appear,
and he will do a super-strong attack with his sword. Use
VFX to dodge it, if possible, since it's very hard to
dodge otherwise.
Kuwaga isn't hard, really, just annoying. Save a
Mach Speed power for when he charges up his energy sword
so you can survive it (it does a ridiculous amount of
damage...), but other than that, keep following him and
pound at him. He shouldn't be too hard, technically,
but he does a lot of damage... To deal the most damage
_to_ him, use your Zoom right as he's charging up his
sword and wail on him. He'll go down in no time.
--------------------------------------------------------
5-B) F-Guardian (BOSS5)
Gulliver's Battles
Spider-Machine
--------------------------------------------------------
Note: Whenever you knock out the boss's crystal, it will
change 'Phases' before return to its attack pattern.
Attacks:
-Normal Phase: Jumps into the background and fires off
two Sonic blasts. Though these are slightly large, they
are easy to avoid.
-Red Phase: Drops rocks down from where its legs step
as it walks on the cieling.
-Blue Phase: Fires out one or two lasers. Stand under
it to avoid them.
-Purple Phase: One side will show lots of Alert markers.
Run away from that side to avoid the laser.
-Yellow Phase: Shoots out six webs. Stand under the
platforms to avoid it, or stand directly under it. The
webs don't do damage, they just stun you and cause you
to lose Viewtifuls.
This thing is insanely easy on BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG,
because it only does the same attacks over and over again.
To get it to switch phases, and deal real damage, grab a
Zoom VFX Orb and pound away at the cockpit for a few
moments, then wail on the energy crystal as it flies
around.
--------------------------------------------------------
6-B) Poseidon (BOSS6)
Atlantis: Four Adventures of the Sea
Poseidon Avenger
--------------------------------------------------------
Attacks:
-Fires laser beams at a single point. The beams don't
do any damage, but after they stop there will be a large
explosion there.
-Jumps and shakes the screen. Danger markers will
appear at four points, then rocks will fall down. Easy
to dodge, and you can knock the rocks into him.
-Swings his trident. This starts off a flow from one
of the corners. Collect powerups there, but avoid the
boulders and mines. Don't get caught at the end, either.
-While the flow is on, he will stomp at about the
middle of the screen. Stay away from the Alert marker.
-His blue orb will float out and start hovering over
you. Eventually, it will stop, then fall. Really easy
to dodge, and you can knock it out of the air with a
single hit.
-Will lean down, then lift up his trident. Lightning
will crash down. I'm not sure if you can avoid this
without using VFX...
Though you may remember this battle as being chaotic,
it's very simple. His attacks are, for the most part,
easy to watch for and realise they're about to happen.
Any VFX Power will destroy this guy, but especially Zoom.
Mach Speed has also been known to knock his head off.
Yes, if you don't remember, you have to target his head.
Try using a diagonal attack to kick the small enemies
around the area into him.
--------------------------------------------------------
7-B SE) Tsukumo (BOSS7)
Les Acteurs Incroyable - Special Edition
Final Battle
--------------------------------------------------------
That's right! It's the Special Edition Final Boss, and
you have to fight him by yourself! What does this mean?
It means that his attacks are very powerful, and you now
have to actually pay attention to what's going on (not
just sit around and let the AI finish him off, since you
don't even have to touch the controller during Les
Acteurs Incroyable to win...). Trust me. He's tough.
Attack Combinations:
-Stomps and causes a shockwave that travels the whole
length. He will then lift up one arm, and charge it up
with glowing energy. Various chunks of glowy debris
will fall down in a line. A couple Bianky and a VFX Orb
or two will appear, as well. Be sure to grab these and
kill the Bianky - this is the only way to get any power
ups during this battle!
-Stomps and causes a shockwave, like before. However,
his hand will electrify. He will then begin to trace a
line in front of him with the electricity. A magnetic
field will be formed that will hold anybody in it in
place along that bit of the ground, then he will punch
another shockwave strong enough to do a 1-hit KO!
-Stomps the ground, but now more platforms appear. He
will swing his hand out and grab you, shake some V-Points
loose, and then drop you, finally dealing damage.
-Slams the ground with both hands. Though easy to
dodge, this causes gravity to lessen for about 15 seconds
following the attack, making you fall slower. Rather
annoying. This attack may, however, cause gravity to
increase for about the same length of time. This is
almost better, though it can make it a bit harder to dodge
his attacks effectively.
-The top half leans back, and a large black hole
appears at his core. Stay away from it, but be careful
of debris that will appear from the edges of the area and
go inwards. Use a VFX Power to avoid taking damage here,
if you can, because it's almost impossible to avoid getting
hit at least once.
This guy is tough, once again. The target point to attack
is the foot that makes the stomp, or the hands smashing
the ground. Basically, you'll want to run in, attack, and
then run out. Most of his moves take off about half of
your health (a bit more if you're unhenshined!), so don't
expect this bastard to be easy! Though you may want to
save your VFX powers, remember that another one will only
appear after using your current one!
And if you're wondering, the single most powerful attack
you can use against this guy is the VFX SE.
--------------------------------------------------------
iii. Beating BOSS*BOSS*BANG*BANG (CHR00)
--------------------------------------------------------
The following section gives character-specific info on
what techniques to use for each character, and the best
ways to get quick times (Thus, the most effective
strategies). This doesn't go into detail on each boss,
however - for boss patterns, go to the previous section
and look through it!
--------------------------------------------------------
02) Sexy Silvia (CHR02)
--------------------------------------------------------
Difficulty: Medium
General Tips: Sexy Silvia is at a major advantage
against the bosses because of her great ranged attacks.
Well, okay, great is stretching it. You'll want to use
the Triple Sexy Beam (Direction + X), and not the Charge
Beam (Hold X) against the enemy, except in those rare
circumstances where you need the infinite range. Triple
Sexy Beam is faster to pull off and hits three times,
overall resulting in more damage. She's also very fast.
The only thing is that she won't do much damage, so your
battles may be fairly long...
Vs. Viracocha: Silvia can wail on this guy with any
ranged attack she wants for a while. When VFX Sound
Effect appears, use it and wail on him (from a distance,
or else you punch the swords and the attack just gets
stopped). Remember that, if you're quick, you can
activate Sound Effect twice in a row if you start
charging up again right after using it once...
Vs. Hulk Davidson: He's not too bad, really. Nail
enemies into him, then keep nailing him with Triple Sexy
Beam. This will keep you a safe distance away so the
axe doesn't hit you when it falls. Or, you can rush in
and use a VFX Zoom to deal extra damage, or Slow/Mach
Speed near the end to still deal damage and avoid the
danger of the large falling axe.
Vs. Fire Leo & Frost Tiger: Because of how slowly she
takes these two down, Sexy Silvia still will find these
guys to be a challenge. However, when zoomed, her normal
attack has awesome range and should be used to your
advantage. Break Fire Leo's shield with Triple Sexy
Beam, then knock snowballs into him and Zoom, Slow, or
just attack normally - either way, your goal is to beat
him senseless. When Frost Tiger is out, keep jumping
over him and firing at him from behind with the Charge
Beam if you can manage it (his 'hit' animation causes
him to only be hit by one hit from the Triple Sexy Beam,
and the Charge Beam is stronger). When Frost Tiger
starts to go all super-ice-attack on you, keep running
towards him and nailing him. Not too hard...
Vs. Kuwaga: Sexy Silvia has this one in the bag as it
stands. Her Triple Sexy Beam will take down Kuwaga with
speed, and when Zoomed, she can pound the living heck
out of him while he's charging up. If you can beat
Kuwaga with any other character, you can do it with her.
Vs. Poseidon: The Charge Beam will come in very handy
here, since you can't reach Poseidon's head on a
diagonal using the Triple Sexy Beam, and the Charge Beam
will hit multiple times. It even has a tendency to
cause his head to fall off. Other than that, just avoid
Poseidon's attacks and wail on him with VFX Powers.
Vs. Tsukumo: Easy as pie, compared to many short-ranged
characters. Wail on him with either the Charge Beam or
Triple Sexy Beam, use your VFX Slow and Sound Effect to
enhance your attack abilities, and save VFX Mach Speed
for evading his black hole attack. Since you have range,
if you're quick you should be able to safely stay out of
danger of many of his attacks and still be able to deal
out some damage.
--------------------------------------------------------
03) Captain Blue Jr. (CHR03)
--------------------------------------------------------
Difficulty: Very Easy
General Tips: The most powerful move Captain Blue Jr. -
or almost any character, for that matter - can use is
his Tornado (Hold X). For attacking targets that are
out of reach of that move, use either the normal attack
if you can reach them without jumping, or use Cyclone
(Direction + X) to hit them if you have to jump at them.
Vs. Viracocha: Get up close and personal quickly, and go
Tornado on his Incan ass. Pull away only when he powers
up his swords, and even then try to keep pounding on him
with Cyclone. If you can't finish him off before he
fires off his swords (And it is possible), take out the
swords and just finish him off with another Tornado when
he comes back.
Vs. Hulk Davidson: Knock a Bianky into him with your
normal attack, then run up and get Tornado going. Use
it for a while, then get away before the axe falls. You
have a fairly decent amount of time, but it takes a
moment for Tornado to stop.
Vs. Fire Leo & Frost Tiger: Since you have insane reach
when Zoomed, use that to your advantage. Knock the
snowballs into Fire Leo and take him down in no time at
all by using Zoom or Slow repeatidly against him. Once
Frost Tiger's out, just keep getting behind him or
attacking from above until his 'hair' breaks, at which
point keep following him around and avoid his ice
shockwave.
Vs. Kuwaga: A bit of a pain, but you may be able to
score multiple hits with your regular attack. Save a
Zoom for when he goes to power up his sword, then just
activate it and wail on him. If you've done enough
damage by then, he should fall quickly.
Vs. F-Guardian: Zoom and the upwards normal attack
will destroy his shield so quickly that he will never
even get the chance to really attack you if you do it
right...
Vs. Poseidon: Once again, Captain Blue Jr.'s range
comes to save him. When zoomed, you can reach his head
with ease for major damage. Also, you can use the
other VFX powers against him. There's no good time to
use Tornado, but Cyclone and Zoom will do the trick.
Vs. Tsukumo: Having Jr.'s range is a major advantage
here. Jump a bit and start off a Tornado on the foot
that makes each stomp, and only run once you know that
you are in danger. When he does the lightning grip
attack, Tornado as long as you can then run a bit away,
and keep pounding on the foot with the end of your reach
using your normal attack or Cyclone.
--------------------------------------------------------
10) Heroine Sylvia (CHR10)
--------------------------------------------------------
Difficulty: Very Hard
General Tips: Heroine Sylvia really suffers in this, in
all honesty. Her only powerful move is the Sexy Butt
Bump (normal attack to either side). Mind you, this
does a fair share of damage. If you want range, you
will have to bring out her Volleyball (Up+X) and then
hit it, and it's not even that great. You'll be relying
on VFX powers to do a lot of your damage. If you need
a quick attack, use diagonal-up Y to strike rapidly.
Vs. Viracocha: Not too hard, mind you. Run up and start
beating him senseless with the Sexy Butt Bump as long as
you can. Once he powers up, keep avoiding him and wail
on him with VFX Powers. When he throws his swords,
evade and break them, then wail on him some more. It
shouldn't be too hard.
Vs. Hulk Davidson: This guy's annoying. His moves will
one-hit-KO you. Sexy Butt Bump into a Bianky to stun
him, and then SBB him repeatedly, aided by Slow or Zoom.
Especially Zoom. Zoom will double the damage he takes,
and if you get hit by the axe, you've got lots of
defenses added on as well. Just be careful regardless.
Vs. Fire Leo & Frost Tiger:
This is so ridiculously hard that it single-handidly
makes Heroine Sylvia have one of the hardest B*B*B*B
challenges! Seriously! In fact, this boss strategy
will even get a special honor of having three paragraphs!
First off, you have to take out Fire Leo's shield -
draw him left so that he's out of range of the ice rings,
then hit him quickly with diagonal-up Y. This will take
out his shield very quickly, as this is a fast attack.
After, use the X-button move to hit a snowball into Fire
Leo, then run over and wail on him with VFX-aided attacks.
As for once he starts doing his rapid fireball attack,
just dodge attacks from him and Frost Tiger for a while
until he fires off about 4, then rush in and pound on him
for a few moments.
If and when he jumps away to bring Frost Tiger out,
there is a simple pattern to follow. Jump over Frost
Tiger so you're behind him, and Sexy Butt Bump him once.
Then just jump back over and repeat. This will easily
take him down enough that he will switch patterns to
begin using his massive ice attack. At this point, Fire
Leo, if he's still around, will begin to fire up the
boulders. Hit them into Frost Tiger to stun him if you
can, or just keep rushing towards him and pounding on
him with VFX. It'll keep him out of his ice smasher if
you're pounding on him constantly.
Vs. Kuwaga:
This is, again, annoying, but not overly difficult.
Once again, Kuwaga is vulneurable during his sword
charging, so use Zoom and wail on him then. Be sure to
use Mach Speed as well to get in a couple hits. This
guy will be tricky, since Sylvia's only powerful attack
is too slow to be able to be really effective against
him. However, he's still easy...
Vs. F-Guardian:
Use your Zoom and your Up+Y normal attack to do quick
damage to this guy and break his shell, then Mach Speed
or Slow to batter the crystal thingy. Alternatively,
you can Slow and Sexy Butt Bump this guy. That works
really well. This is probably one of the easiest
fights, regardless of character.
Vs. Poseidon:
This is a bit tricky, but if you use diagonal-up+Y
attack when Zoomed, he shouldn't be too hard. Also, use
it on the little enemies around the area to make them
fly into him for good damage, as well as the orb thingy
and the boulders that fall down. Mach Speed can also
deal a lot of damage. If you need health, just avoid
his attacks until the water starts flowing - you can
easily recharge your health then. Shouldn't be too
hard if you keep at it.
Vs. Tsukumo:
...Ow. Another hard battle, though not quite as hard
as Fire Leo and Frost Tiger. You'll need to either use
the Sexy Butt Bump or Diagonal-Up+Y to damage him.
Amplify your attacks with VFX powers, since about every
third attack he does will cause another to drop if you
don't have one. Sound Effects is especially powerful
here, so use it. If you get Mach Speed, save it for
defensive purposes. Remember - run in, strike, and then
run the hell away! You don't have an effective ranged
attack - other than that stuipd Volleyball that takes
forever to get out - so this may be a fairly long battle
in comparison to fighting him with some other
characters...
--------------------------------------------------------
11) Young Blue Jr. (CHR11)
--------------------------------------------------------
Difficulty: Easy
General Tips: Just like Captain Blue Jr., Young Blue Jr.
can own most of the bosses using Rapid Yo (Hold X).
Unlike Cap. BJ, Young BJ does not leave behind a cyclone.
While this may seem like a disadvantage, it allows him
to quit the move faster and restart it again without
waiting for the previous cyclone to end. He is also
much faster than Cap. BJ, but is very vulneurable. Many
attacks can one-hit-KO this poor kid.
Vs. Viracocha: Get up close and personal quickly, and go
Tornado on his Incan ass. Pull away only when he powers
up his swords, and even then try to keep pounding on him
with Rapid Yo. If you can't finish him off before he
fires off his swords (And it is possible), take out the
swords and just finish him off with another Rapid Yo when
he comes back.
Vs. Hulk Davidson: Knock a Bianky into him with your
normal attack, then run up and get Rapid Yo going. Use
it for a while, then get away before the axe falls. The
absolute last thing you want is to get hit by this guy -
you can NOT risk it! Almost any attack this guy can do
on you will one-hit-KO you!
If you don't
get him down before he uses his sword, do whatever you
can to avoid it - it will one-hit KO you.
Vs. F-Guardian: Zoom and the upwards normal attack
will destroy his shield so quickly that he will never
even get the chance to really attack you if you do it
right...
Vs. Poseidon: Once again, Young Blue Jr.'s range comes
to save him. When zoomed, you can reach his head
with ease for major damage. Also, you can use the
other VFX powers against him. Cyclone and Zoom will do
more than enough damage, and you can be a bit reckless
here, since so many of his moves are easy to dodge and
even those that aren't don't do much damage...
Vs. Tsukumo: Having Jr.'s range is a major advantage
here. Jump a bit and start off a Rapid Yo on the foot
that makes each stomp, and only run once you know that
you are in danger. When he does the lightning grip
attack, do the Rapid Yo as long as you can and then run.
This guy, strangely enough, doesn't do much more damage
then he would normally to Unhenshined characters, but
that's not to say that you can still afford to put
yourself in danger.
--------------------------------------------------------
iv. Version History (VERSN)
