Section 1. - Intro

1a. - Why?

Simply put, the Streets of Rage series is one of my favorite games of
all time. If there is anything I love more than playing a great game, its
finding hidden stuff that the programmers didnt release to the public in
finished form. I love finding characters and levels in games via a cheat
device and seeing what the programmers originally ment for us to enjoy. I
was intrigued by preliminary shots of SoR3 that had levels not seen in the
final version. So I gathered some cash and resources, and tried to find
them.

1b. - DISCLAIMER

I nor anyone but yourself can be responsible for your actions with the
information contained in this document.
Pro Action Replay codes use values that are outside of a Game Genie's
values. This means that most PAR codes that start with FF cannot be changed
to work with a Game Genie, nor will they work with most emulator programs.
I know, it sucks, but thats the way it is.
As far as I know, any PAR code is compatible with a regular Action
Replay.

1c.   - What do I need?

-----AGAIN, THESE CODES DO NOT WORK WITH THE GAME GENIE OR ANY EMULATOR-----

       You will need the following:
1) Streets of Rage 3 or Bare Knuckle 3
2) Action Replay or Pro Action Replay
3) 2 controllers

The codes you'll be using to get to these levels should work on both
the US and Jap versions of the game. The Euro version has yet to be tested,
so I welcome anyone who would wish to contribute. As far as I know, a regular
Action Replay will work just as good as a Pro Action Replay. For those
with only a Game Genie, too bad. You cannot convert these codes to work with
it. The reason for 2 controllers will be explained later, it really helps
in playing a more stable game.

* Update on the PAL version. I heard from a friend that the Bridge level
crashes before you can finish it and continue to level 7. Don't know if
 this is true or not.

1d.   - Where it originated from

For those who remember it, in the April 1994 issue of Electronic Gaming
Monthly (Beavis and Butthead cover) there was a small bit about BK3 in the
coming soon section. It showed shots of a level where Blaze was riding a
motorcycle along a bridge, and a guy was throwing barrels at her. After I
bought the cart, I noticed that this level was nowhere to be found. Years
later I got a copy of a BK3 prototype cart, thinking I was about to hit pay
dirt. Alas, it was no different than the released version except for a
different cart casing and it had no regional check. So I searched and searched,
and came across a PAR specific code to play one of the hidden levels. The rest
is history.

1e.   - Short Discription

As mentioned above, you can see a screenshot of one of the levels if you
have that isue of EGM. For those who havent, heres some info.
If you perform the stage select code in the options screen, you can only
choose up to level 6. Within level 6, depending on your actions of saving or
killing the hostage, your path will change, as will the game ending. You will
either go to a forest stage or the road to the capital building.
Here is where the hidden levels come in. They were ment to be transitions
from level six to the aformentioned 2 paths. Both hidden levels are "bike riding"
levels, in that your characters are *supposed* to be riding motorcycles similar
to the ones that the enemies drive. One level, The Wasteland, is a long drive
down a desolate country highway. Graphically, its pretty nice, as it offers many
layers of scrolls with no slowdown. You continually drive forward, fighting a
few of the yellow enemies that ride on the motorcycles. They only do a few things,
like throw molotov cocktails or pop wheelies. Some drive head on into you. When
the level is over, you start on the regular "forest" level
The other hidden level is the one from the screenshot in EGM. You are
driving on a bridge over a river with a city in the background. The only
enemy is a bald guy in the back of a truck, throwing barrels at you. After
throwing a dozen or so, he then drops back, and with a side view, he throws
knives at you, then speeds ahead for more barrell dropping. Eventually, he slams
into the back of a 18-wheeler and you being the next level, the road to the
capital.

1f.   - Compatibility issues

As with most things, your mileage may vary. Listed below is the equipment
that I have tested these codes on.

   Sega Genesis Model 1 (USA/JAP)
   Bare Knuckle 3 (Japanese)
   Bare Knuckle 3 Prototype (Japanese)
   Pro Action Replay (European)

These codes are far from being the most glitch free in the world. You
have to mess with the game for a few seconds when the level first starts.
This is explained below. The main reason is that apparently, the graphic for
a character riding on a motorcycle was removed from the final version of the
game. This causes some severe graphic glitching and slowdown. However, I
think I've found a way around this. Also, for some reason, it starts you
out on the level with virtually no health. For anyone that finds a better
way, just let me know.

Section 2. - Gimme some HIDDEN LEVELS!

2a. - Hidden level #1, "The Wasteland"

Here is the PAR code you need to enter for this level:

FFFF190002
FFFF1B0002
FFFB050006

The first 2 codes make both player 1 and player 2 be Shiva. The reason
for this is that with any other character, the board moves at about 1 frame
every 3 seconds. If you dont believe me, try it without the first 2 codes.
The last code starts you on the Wasteland version of level seven.
Choose a 2 player game, and pick any characters. When you both start out,
the board will begin moving and your characters will be invisible. The
characters will be almost dead, and will be to the far left of the screen.
You can only move up and down, you cannot move left/right. What you must do
to make your character appear is this: Move both players to the topmost (or
bottom) of the screen, and press your attack buttons, or attempt to get
each other in a hold. If you make a successful blow the character will
appear. If you get a player in a hold, jump over him and the player that
jumped will appear. From this point, you can walk up and down, jump, and
use both the regular punches and your special attacks. You cannot use the
special moves that correspond with the X,Y, and Z buttons on the 6 button
controller. You can continue through the level, killing the enemies and
avoiding their attacks just like in the regular game.

2b. - Hidden level #2, "The Bridge"

Here is the PAR code you need to enter for this level:

FFFF190002
FFFF1B0002
FFFB050007

Use the technique mentioned above. Choose 2 players, go at it. Once your
characters appear, you will be able to play the level.

Some Assorted Notes ---

If you do decide to play the game without Shiva, it is possible to get the
motorcycle to appear as if you are riding it. The character is in a walking
animation, but is placed in the middle of a moving bike. If you do this,
you are no longer restricted to just up/down movements, you can also move
left and right. But, you cannot attack and the game is incredibly slow and
may crash.

Also, if you play without Shiva, the only way I have found to get a level
to run smoothly is to constantly hold a direction on the d-pad. Even then,
it tends to freeze for a few seconds while you punch or jump.

If anyone finds a better series of codes to get these levels to work, I
would like to hear from you. Also, for those fortunate enough to have
both SoR3/BK3 and a PAR, let me know what you think of these awesome
codes! This is what a cheat cartridge is all about!
