5. - Basic Pokemon Info -
Here is the basics of Pokemon in general. Which means this info
is the same for every Pokemon game in the GBA and gamecube
series including Pokemon XD.
5.1 - Pokemon Battle -
The main concept of each Pokemon game is to collect Pokemon and to Battle
other trainers. As you progress through the game you'll face many trainer
battles. In Pokemon XD you'll face mostly double battles. To win a battle
you pretty much has to make all of your opponent's Pokemon faint. This
could be a lot easier if you understand the basics to Pokemon battle. You'll
need to know the type advantages, their strong stats, and their movesets.
Knowing all this is a key role into being a sucessful Pokemon Trainer.
Since Pokemon XD is mostly double battles be sure to take into account
of moves that attacks both opponents, everyone including your allies, or
benefits your partner Pokemon.
The more you fight the more experience your Pokemon will gain and soon
they'll grow even stronger and maybe even evolve. Be sure to build a team
with a variety of Pokemon types.
Be sure to pay attention to your Pokemon stats as well and build your
Pokemon well to ensure the best use of your stats
ATTACK - Physical Attack Power. The higher it is the more damage
you'll do with Physical Attacks.
DEFENSE - Physical Attack Defense Power. The higher it is the less
damage you'll take from Physical Attacks.
SP. ATTACK - Special Attack Power. The higher it is the more damage
you'll do with Special Attacks.
SP. DEFENSE- Special Defense Power. The higher it is the less
damage you'll take from Special Attacks.
SPEED - Determines the turn order in battle. If your speed is
higher than the opponent you'll have a good chance of
attacking before them.
5.2 - Pokemon Combat Chart -
Here is the basics on which type is effective on which and how basic damage
is calculated.

- You'll get x2 damage for a + attack
- You'll get regular damage if nothing is stated
- You'll get 1/2 damage for a - attack
- You'll get x0 damage for a = attack
Other things to conclude
- You'll get x2 damage for a critial hit
Also it will ignore all your pokemon's ATTACK and SPECIAL ATTACK drop
and ignores the defending Pokemon's DEFENSE and SPECIAL DEFENSE increase

Pokemon using it. Known as S.T.A.B.
- Against dual-type Pokemon calculate both the damage multipliers
Physical Attack - The higher the Pokemon's ATTACK is, the more damage
it will inflict. The higher the Defending Pokemon's

6.3 - Shadow Pokemon 101 -
What is a shadow pokemon?
Shadow Pokemon are normal Pokemon that had been used for wrongful acts because
Cipher found a way to shut the door to their hearts. Shadow Pokemon are
different from normal pokemon with their own advantages and disadvantages.
How do you know if a Pokemon is a Shadow Pokemon?
Most of the time Shadow Pokemon are found while battle the people
of Cipher but sometimes they appear elsewhere. When entering a battle
you will be told if any of the Pokemon they're using is a Shadow Pokemon
or not. If they are you are allowed to snag it during battle. Snagging
is known as capturing a trainer's Pokemon but it's all good since you can
only capture shadow ones. However you can only snag a shadow pokemon
when you have the snag machine.
So how do you snag it?
If you have the snag machine you can throw a Pokeball (or other related items)
to snag it. Most of the time you have to weaken the Pokemon first before
you can securely Snag it. Have it to red health for the highest chance. Also
affecting it with a status condition like Sleep or Poison increases your chance
even further. If you accidently defeat the shadow pokemon don't worry,
you'll get another chance later.
Okay so I snagged it. What now?
Once you snagged it you can pretty much train the pokemon as it were your
own. Each Shadow Pokemon will start with two shadow attacks or more and will
learn more as you open its heart more. However Shadow Pokemon has their
advantages and disadvantages.
What is the difference of Shadow Pokemon to a normal one?
- They have shadow attacks which is Super Effective to all types
of Pokemon. However it's not very effective on other Shadow types
Shadow attacks tends to be faster than normal attacks.
- You cannot use an item that would evolve or level up the Pokemon
(Rare Candy/Elemental Stones)
- You cannot change the order of their moves
- You cannot delete any of their moves
- You cannot change their nickname
- They cannot particapate in VS. mode
- You cannot trade it to any of the GBA Pokemon game.
- They do don't gain EXP and can't level up
- You cannot use a TMs on a shadow Pokemon
- You cannot teach them moves using the move tutor
- During battle they randomly go into reverse mode
What is reverse mode?
When a Pokemon uses a move during battle it might go into Reverse
Mode. When it's in reverse mode the panel that indicates the Pokemon
name and HP will turn Red. Reverse Mode continues even after battle.
When a pokemon is in reverse mode..
- They cannot be healed by using and HP recovery items or abnormality items
(Pokemon Center is still ok)
- They will damage itself at the end of each turn in battle
- They will obey all shadow attacks but might not obey non-shadow attacks
To cure a Shadow Pokemon in reverse mode you need to call them during battle
or use any scent on it.
6.4 - Purification -
Shadow Pokemon can be purified and become a normal pokemon again but it will
take some work. If you look at the Pokemon Status you will see that that a
shadow pokemon EXP bar will be replaced with Heart Gauge. A Shadow Pokemon
can only be purified if that gauge is empty. So that means purple is bad :D
When the gauge is 100% full it will say "The door to its heart is tightly shut"
and when it's 99% - 81% full it will say "The door to its heart is
starting to open"
During this time is probably when you first catch it. The nature of the Pokemon
will be hidden during this time.
When the gauge is 80%-61% full
During this time if the Pokemon has a free space in it's moveset then it will
learn a non-shadow move.
When the gauge is 60%-41% full
During this time you can see the nature of the Pokemon.
When the gauge is 40%-21% full
During this time you will learn your second non-shadow attack
if you pokemon has room for it.
When the gauge is 20%-1% full
During this time the pokemon will have a higher chance of entering
reverse mode.
When the guage is empty it will say "The door to its heart is about
to open"
Finally you can purify the Shadow Pokemon into a normal one.
How do you purify a Pokemon?
First you need to lower the gauge so you can do that. There are many ways
you can accomplish this.
1. Make it battle.
By allowing it to battle the heart gauge will slightly decrease everytime
you allow it to battle.
2. Call in during reverse mode.
When a Pokemon goes into reverse mode call it. This will lower the gauge
everytime you do this.
3. Use Scent items on it.
After obtaining the Colonge Case you can purchase Scents at Agate Village.
Use it on your pokemon to lower their heart gauge.
4. Have it in your party.
If the Shadow Pokemon is in your party, the heart gauge will lower as you walk
around.
5. Leave it in the Purification Chamber.
Once Krane finishes the Purication Chamber allow your Shadow Pokemon to
be in it.
Note: Remember the higher level the pokemon the longer it takes to Purify it.
Once it's it 0% you can purify it completely at Agate Village
or the Purification Chamber.
Once purified it will obtained all the EXP it gained while in battle as
have their shadow moves replaced by other attacks. Some special that the
Pokemon can't learn themselves.
6.5 - Purification Chamber -
As you progess on your adventure Krane will evenually finish the
Purification Chamber.Once it's completed Purifying a Pokemon will be a
whole lot easier. This chamber allows you to slowly purify 9 pokemon at once
without having them in your party. To do this you need to put a Shadow Pokemon
in a set and up to 4 non-shadow pokemon to help purify it. The more pokemon
the faster the process. The speed of the purifying process will depend on two
factors. Tempo and Flow.
Tempo bar is affected by how many pokemon are placed in the set and what
types they are. To maximize the Tempo Bar you need to have four pokemon as
well as their type being super effective to the other pokemon in a clockwise
direction. For example if the pokemon on the top in a water type then the
pokemon to it's clockwise direction should be fire. Then next could be ice,
then next could be grass. By having this each pokemon type is super effective
to the pokemon in its clockwise direction. If the pokemon has two types any of
them would work regardess as long as one of them is super effective towards
the next pokemon. The point of having high tempo is to have a high flow
on purifying.
*Note: within the chamber normal types are consider super effective on other
normal types, so if you put 4 normal type pokemon you'll get max tempo*
The speed at which a Shadow Pokemon is purified is referred to as the "Flow"
Flow is affected by the tempo so if the tempo is high so will the flow.
Once the heart gauge is empty for a pokemon in the Purification Chamber, go
to the Purify Chamber at the Pokemon HQ lab and stop on the circle in the
center of the room. Press A to start the Purification Ceremony. Once it's
over your Pokemon is purified completely.
