First Mario Party appearance as a playable character: Mario Party 3

Waluigi:
Not much is known about this shady character, is he Wario's friend, or

--------------------------------------------
III. D E C A T H L O N
--------------------------------------------

Decathlon is an event mode that was first introduced in Mario Party 5. Twila,
the moon, now hosts this event.

In the Decathlon, as the name implies, you'll play 10 Mini-games; and based
on your performance you'll be awarded with a score. After the 10 Mini-games
end, the scores are tallied and the highest score wins!

The 10 Mini-games that you'll play are:
-Smashdance
-What Goes Up...
-Circuit Maximus
-Snow Whirled
-Note to Self
-Pokey Punch-out
-Sunday Drivers
-Throw Me a Bone
-Hyper Sniper
-Stamp By Me

Remember:
It's a fierce contest to earn the most mini-game points! So do EVERYTHING
you can to win!

Good luck! And enjoy your Star (1) once you finish the Decathlon!

----------------------------------------------
IV. M I N I - G A M E    S T R A T E G I E S
----------------------------------------------

-------------
1. Smashdance
-------------

Rules:
Ground-pound the flashing panels. Battle to see who can ground-pound
the most times within the time limit.

Controls:
Control Stick: Move
A Button: Jump
A Button twice: Ground Pound

Advice:
When a panel glows blue, it's a sign that it will fade soon.

Difficulty:
Easy

Strategy:
Try to ground-pound the other contestants if they're in your way.
If not, just press A as soon as you jump so you don't waste time floating in
the air for 1.5 seconds. Stay away from the other contestants because
they like to ground-pound people >.< Good Luck!

Score Curve:
300 Decathlon Points per 10 panels.

------------------
2. What Goes Up...
------------------

Rules:
Jump on Koopa Paratroopa to reach breathtaking heights! Whoever reaches the
highest altitude wins!

Controls:
Control Stick: Move
A Button: Jump

Advice: Watch the moving Koopa Paratroopas and time your jumps carefully!

Difficulty:
Easy to Medium

Strategy:
Ah, a game that requires pure skill, joy!
Tilt the control stick _before_ you jump, that way your character will move
more to the direction you chose to. Try not to fall, do your best!

Score Curve:
300 Decathlon Points per 100 Yards.

------------------
3. Circuit Maximus
------------------

Rules:
Avoid the high-voltage Amps as you dash around the maze! Whoever reaches the
goal first wins!

Controls:
Control Stick: Move

Advice:
Some Amps move, some stay put. Study them for a moment before rushing ahead.
If you get zapped, you'll be temporarily stunned.

Difficulty:
Medium and frustrating.

Strategy:
You'll be in an octagon-like maze. You should be careful and stay at the
edge of the screen because Amps are likely not to be there. Avoid the Amps
and once again, good luck!

Score Curve:
If you could pass this event at 0:00 (which you can't) you'll get 800 points,
based on that number, your score will be:
800 minus 10 for each second taken.

---------------
4. Snow Whirled
---------------

Rules:
Press the buttons in order to spin your snowboard in midair.
Whoever pulls off the biggest spin wins!

Controls:
A Button
B Button
Y Button
X Button
-Press them in that order.

Advice:
Press the buttons in order but don't rush it!

Difficulty:
Medium to Hard

Strategy:
I got this from KyleSinclair on the Gamefaqs Message Board. Kyle, if you
don't want me to post your strategy, e-mail me or post on the board and I
will take it off.
You take your right hand thumb and slide it down from X to A to B as fast
as you can, and in-between each slide hit Y with your left hand thumb.
Be careful about missing buttons.

Score Curve:
300 Decathlon points per 1700°

---------------
5. Note to Self
---------------

Rules:
Hit the three bouncing music notes as many times as you can!
Whoever hits the most notes wins!

Controls:
Control Stick: Move
A Button: Jump

Advice:
Jump on your opponents to hit high-flying notes!

Difficulty:
Easy

Strategy:
-Corner a Note Block and jump onto it, if you time it correctly, you'll get
more than 7 points very quickly.
-Try to jump onto your opponents if they annoy you.

Score Curve:
200 Decathlon Points per 15 Note Blocks hit.

------------------
6. Pokey Punch-out
------------------

Rules:
Punch and kick Pokeys that emerge from the sand to score points.
Whoever score the most points wins!

Controls:
Control Stick: Move
A Button: Jump
B Button: Punch
A -> B: Kick

Advice:
Attack a Pokey's head to topple it completely and earn points
for every one of its segments.

Difficulty:
Easy

Strategy:
-If there's a huge Pokey near the stairs/monument climb the stairs and
assault the head.
-Let the CPU/friends attack the lower part of the Pokeys and jump on the
head.

Score Curve:
300 Decathlon points per 20 Pokey segments.

-----------------
7. Sunday Drivers
-----------------

Rules:
Press the buttons according to the Shy Guy's orders to hit the golf ball.
Whoever hits the most balls wins!

Controls:
B button
A button
X button        - Press as instructed.
Y button
L Trigger
R Trigger

Advice:
If you press the wrong button, you'll flub your swing and lose valuable time!

Difficulty:
Easy to Medium

Strategy:
-It's better to wait and think than to act and regret later! You'll lose more
seconds if you press the wrong button than if you wait and think/find the
right one!
-Watch your character carefully! Everyone has different button sets, so make
sure you're watching YOUR character. Silly, I know, but it has happened to me.
>.<

Cheap Strategy:
Pause the game just as the Shy Guy is raising the flag to know what to press.

Score Curve:
300 Decathlon points per 10 balls hit

------------------
8. Throw Me a Bone
------------------

Rules:
Throw bones to coax the Chain-Chomp around obstacles and to the goal!
Whoever crosses the goal first wins!

Controls:
A Button: Throw a Bone

Advice: The Chain-Chomp will chase after bones, so try to throw them into
the open spaces to avoid obstacles

Difficulty:
Easy to Medium

Strategy:
You need a lot of timing if you want to pass this Mini-game with a good score,
the 'Bone Line' (as I like to call it) will begin moving to the right side,
use this to your advantage!

Score Curve:
The formula will come up soon. For now:
300 Decathlon points if you passed it with 40 seconds.

---------------
9. Hyper Sniper
---------------

Rules:
Fire at targets as they scroll down the screen. Whoever scores the most points
wins!

Controls:
Control Stick: Move
A Button: Shoot

Advice:
Beware of Bowser's targets! If you hit one, your points will be reset back
to zero.

Difficulty:
Easy

Strategy:
-To hit the '100' targets, aim a little higher from the target.
-Don't bother with '10' targets.

Cheap Strategy:
Pause the game to see what targets are coming.

Score Curve:
300 Decathlon points per 1000 Hyper Sniper points

---------------
10. Stamp By Me
---------------

Rules:
Stamp the pieces of paper as they zoom by you on the conveyor belt.
Whoever stamps the most correctly wins!

Controls:
A Button: Stamp to the right
B Button: Stamp to the left

Advice: The left and right conveyor belts move at different speeds.
Keep this in mind to find the right stamping rhythm (when I was typing this
at first I wrote 'Stamping Mayhem' for some reason XD)

Difficulty:
Easy

Strategy:
Watch the faster conveyor belt as it is likely that it will get there first
even if the slower conveyor belt sent the stamp first.

Score Curve:
1000 Decathlon points for a perfect (27) score.

--------------------------------------------
V. F A Q
--------------------------------------------

1. What's Decathlon?
Decathlon is an event mode where you play 10 mini-games. In each mini-game
you'll get a score based on your performance. The highest score after the
10 mini-games wins the event.

2. How do I unlock Decathlon mode?
Play the following games in Party/Solo Mode:
-Smashdance
-What Goes Up...
-Circuit Maximus
-Snow Whirled
-Note to Self
-Pokey Punch-out
-Sunday Drivers
-Throw Me a Bone
-Hyper Sniper
-Stamp By Me

3. What's the point of the Decathlon?
It's purely more replay value for Mario Party 6. It's also a new challenge
for you. There are several games that didn't have a record option but in
Decathlon you can score a new record for them.

4. Do you get Stars by playing Decathlon?
Yes, 1.

5. Can you play as DK?
No.

6. What's your favorite Mario Party?
Mario Party 6, gameplay is so fluent on this one, plus it has another
new character, too bad they didn't get DK back into the gang.
