The Pagemaster is a Gameboy game based off the movie with the same name.
For a Gameboy game, it can be excrutiatingly difficult, which is why I
wrote this guide.
Please Note:
Most of the levels of Pagemaster are fairly non-linear. There are many
different routes you can take to complete a level. This walkthrough shows
the paths I took, taking care to pick up Library Cards and Bonus Game
tokens along the way. It is not meant to be the only way through a level.
You will probably find other routes that may work better for you.

Controls:

A Button: Jump. You can jump on most enemies to destroy them.
B Button: Uses secondary weapon (if available) - see the section "Items and
Pickups" for more information on secondary weapons.
Select: Use Book (if available) - see "Items and Pickups" for more.
Also, if you pause the game (start) in a level you have already
completed, pressing Select will exit the level and return you to
the map screen.
Start: Pauses game when in a level. When paused, the game displays how
many points you have accumulated in the current world.
Direction Pad: Moves left and right. Holding Up or Down will let you
look up or down in most levels (not scrolling levels)

Status Panel:

When you are inside a level, the status panel will be present at the top
of the screen. The panel looks somewhat like the diagram below:

- Secondary Items shows the item you currently have equipped, such as
boots of Jumping or Magic Dust. This will be empty if you have no
items equipped. For more information on the types of items you can
use, see the next section: "Icons and Pickups".
- Life Count shows how many lives you have remaining. The counter stops
at nine, but you can actually gain more lives than that.
(for example, if you have 13 lives, it will only show 9)
- Library Cards shows the number of library cards you have currently
collected. The goal of the game is to find and collect all eight
library cards in the game. For more information on where to find
these Cards, see the next section: "Icons and Pickups".
- Keys/Coins/Eggs tells you the current number of keys (Horror World),
coins (Adventure World), or eggs (Fantasy World) you have collected.
For every 30 you collect, you will gain an additional book icon and
the number will reset to zero.
- Book Icon shows you the number of books you have collected. If you have
a book, you can press the select button to make all the enemies on
screen disappear. This is very handy in tight areas!

Icons and Pickups:
--------------------
Book - Floats in Midair. The number of books you have collected shows
up in your HUD. This should not be confused with the floating book
enemy. Press select to use when you have one. Using it removes all
enemies from the screen.
Bonus Game Token - dark Devil Book icon. Collecting this icon will let you
play a bonus game once you finish the level. See "Bonus Game
Information" near the end of this guide for more.
Crystal - squiggly thing floating in the air - 3000 points
Diamond - 2000 points
Keys/Coins/Eggs - see "level specific items" under each of the three
worlds for more information.
Library Card - The goal of the game is to apparently collect library cards.
There are a total of eight library cards in the entire game. When you
find one of these in a level, you will be shown a picture of you
saying "Wow! A library card!". Library cards are usually hidden in
difficult to reach areas of the level, and often require special
items such as the Boots of Jumping to get.
Library cards can be found in:
Horror World: level 2, 3, 5 (3 total)
Adventure World: level 3, 5 (2 total)
Fantasy World: level 2, 4, 6 (3 total)
Read the individual level walkthroughs for more information on how
to get each library card.
Money - a dollar sign icon floating in the air - 1000 points
Pagemaster Hat - level checkpoint. It looks like a pointed rock that
wobbles around when you move past it. Move through it to activate a
checkpoint. If you die in the level and re-enter it, you will start
at this point instead of the beginning.
Portal Books - These books are invisible, and only appear if you hit the
underside of them while jumping around. If you jump into one of
these books, you will be taken to a small bonus level with lots of
pickups!
Ring - occasionally dropped by an enemy when it is destroyed.

Usable Items:

Boots of Jumping - One of the most common item pickups you will find.
These boots allow you to jump considerably higher than you are
normally able to. You need to have this item in your inventory before
you can collect any of the next items. The next items will not
replace the boots; thus you can have both the boots and the sticky
hands at the same time.
Sticky Hands - A rarer item occasionally dropped. These allow you to stick
onto ceilings and thus cross large gaps.
You need to have the boots of jumping before you can get this item.
Fairy Dust - A projectile that you can throw at
enemies. You can build up a larger amount to throw by holding down
the B button for a longer period of time.
You need to have the boots of jumping before you can get this item.
Eyeball - A projectile that you can throw, which will
then repeatedly bounce off several surfaces before returning to you.
Use B to throw.
You need to have the boots of jumping before you can get this item.
Sword - A weapon you can slash enemies with. Press the B Button to use.
You need to have the boots of jumping before you can get this item.
Helmet - invincibility for a short time period. Lets you move through
enemies and over lava/spikes without getting harmed.

Level Passwords:

You can enter passwords at the main Options screen to skip ahead to the
second or third world. You can only use passwords to get to a new
world. You can not use passwords to skip past specific levels inside
a world.
There are multiple passwords for each level. These passwords change
how many lives and library cards you start the world with.
If you enter a password wrong, the game will return you to the selection
screen.

Horror World is the first section of the game. You progress through
levels such as graveyards and creepy libraries.

World Specific Items:

- Keys - You can find keys laying around most levels. You will probably
pick up many just by walking through them as you run around. These keys
give you bonus points (100 points each) when you get to the end of the
world. Every 30 keys you collect gives you an extra book.

MAP:

The "worlds" are arranged like two facing pages in a book. Each world
contains several levels spread out across the two pages, with paths
connecting them.
'X's show where the level point is. Thus, to enter level 4, you need
to go to where the X is next to the words "level 4".
Horror World is divided into 3 sections: levels 1-3, level 4, and
levels 5-6. There are no paths connecting these sections. Once you
enter a new section you can not head back to the previous one
(unless you lose all your lives and select "continue" to keep
playing). You can replay previous levels within a section, however.

Enemies
----------------------
Books: These creatures walk around the ground, and can lunge and snap at
you. Sometimes they will fly around in the air for a short period of
time. They are probably the most common enemy you will encounter, and
appear in all three worlds.
Bats: These creatures don't try to attack you, and instead just fly around
randomly in the air when you come near. They can be very difficult to
avoid when you are in a small area, however.
Ghosts: Beware! They appear from nowhere. You can jump on them just like
any other creature.
Frankenstein's Fist: This is very difficult to avoid as it only appears
when it is right on top of you. It is a giant fist that slams down
into the ground, crushing you underneath it.
Mr Hyde: He throws flasks which bounce along the ground. Don't let them
hit Richard!

Level 1 walkthrough.

Here we go. The very first level of Pagemaster. Thus we begin our epic
quest for eight library cards.
You start in a graveyard. Head right and jump up a hill to collect four
keys. At the top of the hill is a horizontal rope heading left. For now
head right. As you do so, a ghost will pop up and rush at you. Jump on
the ghost to destroy it, then keep heading right and slide down the hill.
At the bottom of the hill a book creature is roaming around, so destroy it
and it will drop the boots of jumping. Just to the right of this creature
is a stack of large books, with a library book token and a crystal higher
up. Stand on the lower stack of books for a moment and you will notice a
moving platform. Carefully jump on this platform and ride it across the
gap to the far ledge, where you will find another stack of books.
Right on the edge of the ledge, there are two horizontal books that you
can use as a platform. Stand on top of these two books, then jump directly
up. If you have the boots of jumping you will hit open a hidden portal
book! Jump up onto the book to enter the bonus level! You will need the
boots of jumping to reach the book.

After you return from the bonus level, jump down off of the book to land
once more on the ledge with the large books. Head right, fighting a
ghost that pops up just after you hop down from the books. Keep heading
right up the hill and when you arrive at the top you will find a hot
poker. Carefully jump over it and continue heading right.
Run down the next hill and you will find a small gap. Easily jump over it
and you will encounter Mr. Hyde running around on the next ledge. Jump on
him or otherwise destroy him before he can throw stuff at you. Keep going
right. Jump up the next steep hill. At the very top are more horizontal
library books with a money icon floating above them.
Stand on top of the horizontal books. From this point you could head left
and collect a key and try to avoid Frankenstein's Fist, but since we have
the boots of jumping, it is easier to go right. Jump up and to the right
to land on a higher ledge with a tree and a hot poker. Carefully jump
over this poker to the right to collect the bonus game icon. Be careful,
as there are two bats flying around this area and it is very easy to jump
right into them if you have the boots.

Now that you have the bonus game token, we can head to the end of the level.
Head back to the left, jumping back over the hot poker and dropping down
off the ledge to the stack of books. From here, head right down the hill.
You will find a ghost just as you begin heading down the hill. Keep going
down and to the right and you will come to a door. Run through it to end
the level!

Bonus Level 1.1 walkthrough.
-----------------------
This small level is accessed through the hidden portal book found near the
end of level 1 of Horror World (paragraph 4 of level 1 walkthrough).
This is a timed level.
You begin in a corridor. Head right to collect three keys, an extra life,
and a library book token. Drop down into the lower corridor. Head left to
collect three more keys, another extra life, and another library book token
before heading to the level exit.

Level 2 walkthrough.

This level is one of the hardest in the entire game. Rather than being
a side scrolling level where you move along at your own pace, it
automatically scrolls downward, and you have to keep up with it. This is
made even harder because you often can not see the platforms you have to
jump down to. Even if you know a platform is on a spot you are jumping to,
if it is not on the screen you can still plummet to your death. Expect to
replay this level multiple times.
NOTE: This level is a bit unusual in that it is circular. What this means
is that if you walk off the right side of the screen you will appear on the
left side of the screen. This is necessary when moving between platforms
and avoiding enemies.
You begin by standing on a central platform, with the screen scrolling
down. When a money icon appears in the lower right corner of the screen,
drop down to grab it and land on that platform. Then run towards the right
offscreen and you will appear on the lefthand platform. Drop down once
more to collect the key there.
Wait until you can see the next platform to the lower right of where you
collected the key, and drop down to it. Then drop down to the left to
collect the crystal. Wait a bit more until you can see the lower platform
and drop down to it. There will be a bat flying around on the right side.
If you want to kill/avoid it, you can run through the left part of the
screen and collect the key on the righthand platform. Whichever platform
you end up on, drop down again to the large central platform with a book
creature.
Drop down to the right to a small space with a key, then run offscreen to
the left side and jump on the book roaming around in this small tunnel.
Alternatively, you could forgo the key and drop down to the left to land
on the book. Once the book is dead, drop down the central gap.
You will land on a small platform. Drop down to the left to another small
platform, then once more to a small platform with a money token. Next
drop down to the right to a large platform with two keys and Mr. Hyde.
Drop down from either the left or right side to land in an area with two
side platforms and a rope heading down.
There is a bat creature flying around this area which can be difficult to
avoid. You may need to use one of your library books on it. Halfway down
the rope is a platform with the Bonus Game token on it. Once the bat is
destroyed hop over to collect it.

Jump back on the rope and climb down to a large platform with the Pagemaster
Hat on it. Run through the Pagemaster Hat to activate the checkpoint.

Head to the right and drop down to a horizontal rope. Once a second rope
appears drop down to that one, then climb left to collect two keys. Drop
down to a third rope, making sure to stay on the righthand side of this
rope. When you drop down once more to a forth rope, there will be spikes
on the lefthand part that you will not want to land on.
Avoid the spikes and climb to the right across this rope, then take the
rope heading down. You will land on a platform with a book creature roaming
around. Be careful about jumping around here as there are spikes on the
righthand part of the ceiling. Head left and drop down to a small tunnel
with a money icon and a diamond, then drop down through the center gap.
With luck you will land directly on the Mr. Hyde creature running around
here.
Drop down to the left to collect a crystal icon, then run left offscreen
to appear on the right platform and collect a key. Now, stay on the right
side, and drop down into the gap here to collect your first library card!

Drop down to the right, then once on the small platform run offscreen to
collect the key on the left. Drop down once more to the floor of the level.
The scrolling will finally stop, and you are free to leave the level
through the door on the middle platform.
Congratulations! You just made it through one of the most difficult levels
in the game!

Level 3 walkthrough.

You start in a library. Run right and jump up the steep hill. There is a
book creature waiting at the top, so jump on it or avoid it and keep
heading right. Head down the next slope, collecting a money icon and a
diamond icon. Keep heading right, and you will pass in front of a large
bookcase and will come to some floor spikes.
Since we are going for the library card, we will stay on the bottom for
now. Jump over the spikes, collecting the two keys that surround it, and
keep heading right. You will slide down another slope with two more keys
before running past another large bookcase. Immediately after this
bookcase is a ghost, so jump on it or simply avoid it.
Keep heading right until you come to another area with floor spikes. There
is another ghost here, so destroy it and keep going right up the next small
hill. Past the next bookcase are a couple ledges heading down. Drop down
them until you reach the bottom. Be carefult to stay on the left, as there
is a large pool of lava here that is very easy to fall in.
There is a corridor to your left, but a ghost is guarding it. If you have
a projectile weapon or want to use a book you can destroy it, but it is
far easier to jump to the right across the lava. There is an area with two
keys in the air here. Head right, pausing just after you enter the low
ceilinged-area to wait for Frankenstein's Fist. Just past the fist is a
Helmet of Invincibility! Grab this helmet and run to the left, over the
lava and through the ghost corridor.
You will run over another pool of lava with several keys floating in the
air, but ignore them for now. Keep heading left. There is yet another
pool of lava with a money icon and a diamond. You can wait for the
moving platform to pick you up, but your Helmet of Invincibility should
have enough time left to run across this pool of lava as well.
Once you are on solid land again, head left. You will come to a wall with
two keys, but can see a tunnel high to the left. There is a secret
entrance here high up in the wall that you can jump into. Head through
the secret entrance and into the next area.
This next area is difficult. It contains a bats and a Mr. Hyde creature.
You may wish to use a Book to clear the screen. You can also avoid the
bat, jump on Mr. Hyde, and quickly run to the left wall. If you have the
boots of jumping you can simply jump over the wall to the left. If not you
will need to push the large skull over to the wall and use that as a
platform. This area also has spikes on the ceiling, so be careful if you
have the boots of jumping.
The next area has two bats. They can be very difficult to avoid, so I
advise using one of your books to clear the screen. Head left until you
reach the ledge. You will see the Fairy Book floating in the air. This
next part is extremely difficult. You need to jump down, grab the Fairy
Book as you fall, then immediately press Up on the direction pad to keep
yourself from plummeting into the lava below. It is very easy to die
here.
One easy way to accomplish this is not to jump, but rather run off the
ledge. You should touch the Fairy Book as you are falling off, then can
press up and use it to keep you from falling farther. Keep pressing up
and the Fairy Book will keep holding you in the air.
This next part can be difficult, but we are going to use the Fairy Book
to avoid most of it. Navigate the Fairy Book down and to the left, where
a platform with a Crystal token is. You can collect the token while still
hanging in the air, then press up again to fly up to the ceiling. Once
you hit the ceiling, stay up there and fly left until you reach the wall.
This will take you over a couple more platforms and lava pits. At the left
wall drop down a little to grab the library card!

Once you have the library card, you will need to backtrack to where you
entered the Ghost corridor next to the large lava pit. If you are still
hanging onto the Fairy Book, use it to fly back across the multiple lava
pits and deposit you where you encountered Mr. Hyde (The area with the
movable skull). If you did not use the fairy, you will need to jump back
across the lava pits, which is difficult.
Keep heading right through areas you have already seen. Once you get to
the corridors of lava, the platforms will move and carry you across. If
you did not kill the Ghost in the first corridor it will jump out, so use
a Book or a projectile weapon to kill it.
Once you are back at the stair-step ledges, use them to climb to the upper
level. Head left. You will pass in front of a bookcase, over floor spikes,
in front of a two bookcases, up a small slope and over another set of floor
spikes until you get to the final bookcase. If you have the boots of
jumping you can jump up the other bookcase platforms. If not, you will have
to use the first bookcase.
Jump up the bookcase platforms until you reach the top. Jump right across
the large gap to land on the top of another bookcase with money and a
crystal. Jump right again, aiming to land on the book creature roaming
around on the top of the next bookcase. Keep jumping right, landing on
Mr. Hyde surrounded by two keys, until you get to a series of small brick
platforms hovering in the air.
Use these small platforms to keep jumping right until you get to the top
of another bookcase. Take care to land on the extreme far left side of
this platform, as there is a Frankenstein's Fist waiting to crush you in
the center. Once the fist comes down, head right again and grab onto the
horizontal rope. Climb across the rope to the right.
You will encounter more enemies as you head right including a book, a bat,
and Mr. Hyde, but you can avoid most of them by staying on the rope and
continuing to head right. At the end of the horizontal rope is a rope
heading down. Climb or drop down to the bottom, where you will meet a
ghost.
Destroy or avoid the ghost and head right to find the level exit!

Level 4 walkthrough.

This is another horrible scrolling level. It is a little easier than the
second level, as the scrolling is horizontal, so there are fewer places you
can plunge to your death.
You start in a graveyard with the screen scrolling right. Head right up
the slight hill. At the top is a ghost, but you can often just avoid it.
Continue down the hill, collecting two keys. You will next come to your
first gap.
Wait until you see the ledge on the far side of the gap, then jump over to
it. Head down the small hill, where a Mr. Hyde creature is running around.
Destroy him and continue heading right. At the top of the next hill is
another easily avoidable ghost, then another gap.
Jump over this gap to the lower ledge on the right, collecting a money and
diamond token. Jump again to the next ledge, where another Mr. Hyde is.
This creature can be difficult to avoid as the area here is a bit cramped.
Head down the hill and to the right to find another ghost followed by
another gap.
This gap is a bit more difficult, in that there is a small platform you
need to land on in the center of the gap to get across. This platform will
begin to wobble and will soon fall once you land on it. The best solution
for this is to stay at the far left of the screen, and jump onto the
platform right as the lefthand ledge is about to disappear offscreen. This
will give the righthand ledge enough time to appear onscreen, so you can
immediately jump off the wobbling platform to safety.
Once on the next ledge, walk through the Pagemaster Hat to activate the
level checkpoint.

Keep heading right, making sure to jump carefully over the hot poker soon
after the Pagemaster Hat. Head up the small hill where you will find
another ghost and a smaller gap to jump over. Reach the lower righthand
ledge, then jump across the next gap to a higher ledge with a Mr. Hyde
creature on it. With luck you can time your jump so you land directly on
Mr. Hyde.
Head down the hill, collecting a diamond and money token, and you will
reach a horizontal rope. Grab onto it and climb to the right. After you
collect two keys you will come across a bat. Jump over it or destroy it
as it flys around, then keep heading right through more keys.
Drop down onto solid ground when the rope ends, and head up the small hill.
At the top is a Mr. Hyde, and a small platform. This platform will carry
you across the gap, but you must be careful. Keep to the far left of the
screen once more and only jump onto the platform when you can see the
righthand ledge on the screen. This way you will not fall to your death.
On the far ledge is a Ghost, so avoid it and head down the hill. You will
come to a low area with several keys and a Mr. Hyde, so destroy him and
keep moving right. Just over the next hill is the level exit!

You start in an corridor. Head right until you get to a wall with lava
in front of it. Wait for a moment until a moving platform comes down,
then jump on it and ride it up to the top. When it reaches the top, jump
off to the right. As you do so, a ghost will pop out, so either jump on
it or wait until it disappears to hop off the platform.
There are several paths you can take through this level. Let's first get
the bonus game icon, then head to the Library Card.
Head down the hill, collecting a couple of keys, until you get to the first
bookcase. Jump up the platforms of this bookcase until you reach the top.
At the top is a money icon and a diamond for you to collect.
Jump to the left onto a rope and climb up that. Watch out for the bat
flying around here, but you should usually be able to avoid that. When
you reach the top, jump up and out to the left.
Ride the moving platform across the lava to the left, avoiding the ghost
that pops out at the end. The jump up and over the wall to where a rope
hangs at the far left. This may require the boots of jumping. Climb the
rope down to the bottom. At the bottom, wait until the book creature is
directly under you before you release the rope, to land on it and destroy
it. Since you have the Boots already, this enemy should give you the
Sticky Hands. Jump onto the righthand moving platform, and ride it up to
the top. Do not jump off of it when it reaches the top, for there are
spikes in the ceiling you will hit.
As the platform reaches the top, walk right to get off it, and collect the
book icon and the bonus game icon floating in the air.

Now we have that, we need to backtrack. Take the moving platform back
down and climb back up the rope. Head right over the lava with the moving
platform (watching out for the ghost if you didn't destroy it when crossing
the lava the first time) and drop down off the first rope to arrive back
at nearly the start of the level.
Now that we are back where we began, head right. Just past the first
bookcase and before the second is a small ceilinged area. Here awaits a
Frankenstein's Fist, so pause before running through here and wait for it
to crash down. Run past it to the right, and head up a hill where a third
bookcase awaits. Jump up the platforms of this bookcase until you reach the
very top, where you will find a crystal and a diamond. Jump right across
the gap, then jump right again to cross a pit of lava with several keys
hovering over it. If you have the boots of jumping, this jump will be
easy.
At the far end is a book running around. With luck you will land on it
as you jump to this side of the lava pit. When the book is destroyed,
jump up and over the wall to the right, using the floating shield platform
if needed. Run through the Pagemaster's Hat and down the hill. A Mr.
Hyde creature is running around at the bottom of this hill, so watch out
for thrown objects as you head right. Destroy or avoid Mr Hyde, then ride
the moving platform across the lava pit to the right. The platform will
disappear once it hits the far side, so jump off it quickly to a ledge
with a money and diamond icon.
Now we are going for the Library Card. If you wanted to just complete the
level, jump right across the gap to where another book is running around.
But to get the library card, we need to drop into the gap.
Drop down, making sure to stay on the left side. You will land on a ledge
where a book will immediately attack you. Quickly jump on it, then head
left. Head up the hill, then drop down to collect the crystal sitting on
a lower ledge. This next part can be tricky. If you simply try to jump
over the spikes here, you will probably land in them. The easiest way to
get across is if you have the sticky hands.
Once across the spikes, collect the library card!

Now you need to backtrack a bit. Jump across the spikes once more, then
head right to the gap where you initially dropped down. If you still have
the Boots of Jumping, you can head back to the top by jumping from wall to
wall up the narrow gap. If you do not have the boots, you will need to
drop down and head back to the left across a couple pits of lava (with
moving platforms) and several enemies before arriving back at the bottom
of the large bookcases.
Once you get back to the top, jump right across the gap and land on another
book creature. Keep heading right until you see a skull. Slowly push this
skull to the right. Be careful as a Frankenstein's Fist is here waiting to
crush you. Once the Fist disappears, keep pushing the skull until you
reach the right wall. If you have the Boots of Jumping, simply jump over
this wall to the right. If you don't you will need to jump on the skull
to get the necessary height.
Drop down to the right, heading down the step-like ledges as you collect a
few more keys. Drop down again, collecting a book icon before reaching the
bottom and heading left. This next area has both a bat and Mr. Hyde in it,
so it may be easier to simply use a book (Select button) than taking them
both on. When they are gone, collect the two money icons from the
stair-like ledges, and keep heading left. At the far left is a rope. Take
it down.
At the bottom is another pit of lava with a moving platform. Ride this
over to the righthand side. If you have the boots of Jumping and the
Sticky Hands, you can jump high off the platform halfway before it reaches
the far side and enter a small area with some more icons. You will need
the sticky hands to leave this area without falling into the lava, though.
If you jump around inside this small area you will hit a hidden portal
book. Jump in it to enter a bonus level.

You start at the left side of a corridor. Walk through the corridor to
the right to collect a total of 4 keys, 2 books, and 3 extra lives.
Use the door at the righthand end of the corridor to exit the bonus level.

Level 6 walkthrough.

Level 6 puts you back in a graveyard. This level is actually fairly
easy. It involves a considerable amount of platform jumping, but does not
have an overwhelming number of enemies.
You start on the top left side of a hill. Head right down the hill.
At the bottom is a wandering book creature in front of a moving platform.
Ride the platform to the right across the gap, picking up 3 keys as you
do so. Once across, head up the steep hill with more keys. At the top of
this hill is a rotating platform.
Once you manage to jump on the platform, ride it until you see a ledge at
the top left. Jump onto this ledge, where a ghost will immediately attack
you. Destroy or avoid it and head left up another steep hill where you
will find Mr. Hyde. Just past Mr. Hyde is a platform made up of several
large books laying down. Use this book platform to jump up and to the left
to another small platform with two keys on it. Once you collect these two
keys you can drop down and to the left to grab a helmet of invincibility,
but you will need to get back to this platform and jump up and to the
right.
On this upper platform is another book creature. Once it is destroyed
jump up again to the left to another platform. On this platform is a
horizontal rope, so climb to the right on it. There is a bat in the middle
of this rope. Once on the far side, head right down the hill. You will
walk through several keys before finding a Mr. Hyde guarding a Book pickup.
Once you collect this, head back up the hill.
Where the horizontal rope ends is a rope heading up. Climb up this rope
until you reach the top where you will see a small moving platform. Land
on this platform and it will carry you across the gap to a righthand
ledge. On this ledge a ghost will appear. Just beyond it is another
moving platform at the far right of the screen. Jump on this platform and
it will carry you up, through a couple keys, to the next higher ledge.
Head left. You will find another book creature. Destroy it and keep
heading left up the hill until you reach a ghost. Just past the ghost is
another gap. Drop down to the left to land on a ledge with two keys, then
drop down again to the right to a ledge with a helmet of invincibility.
Jump back up until you are at the ghost area again, then jump up and to the
left to a ledge with two keys and a large pushable skull sitting on some
large books.
If you have the boots of jumping you can simply jump up to the next ledge,
but if not you will need to use the skull as a platform. Push the skull
to the far right edge of the ledge, and use it to jump up and to the right
to another ledge, where a book creature is. Destroy the book creature, then
jump up and to the left to yet another ledge where you will find a crystal
and a money icon. Head right, past the place you just encountered the
book creature, to find a moving platform at the end of the ledge.
Jump on this platform and ride it up to a smaller ledge with two keys.
Drop down and to the right to a lower area where a Mr. Hyde is running
around. Just past him is a shield platform. Use this to jump up and to
the right to another ledge with a movable skull. Push the skull to the
left edge and use it to jump up again to a new higher ledge.
Head left through a diamond and money token. Keep going left down the
steep slope where you will collect several more keys. At the end of this
is the level exit!

The "worlds" are arranged like two facing pages in a book. Each world
contains several levels spread out across the two pages, with paths
connecting them. There are two areas in this world: level 1-5; and then
level 6 in its own area.
Completing level 5 will place you in the area for level six. Thus, there
are two ways you can get through this world:
1st way: level 1 to 4, then to 5, then to 6.
2nd way: level 1 to 2, then to 3, then to 5, then to 6.
The second route is harder, but will net you both library cards. The first
route is easier (since you skip level 2) but you will miss one library
card by avoiding level 3.

Enemies

Books: These creatures walk around the ground, and can lunge and snap at
you. Sometimes they will fly around in the air for a short period of
time. They are probably the most common enemy you will encounter, and
appear in all three worlds.
Captain Ahab: He's been on Moby Dick's trail for years, but he's quite
content to throw his harpoon at anyone who gets in the way.
Parrot: A not-so-pretty Polly who flaps around in a panic.
Swinging Pirates: So happy they swing from ropes.
Hidden Pirates: Happy Pirates pop out from behind walls and throw things
at Richard. They can not be killed; you can only avoid them.
George Merry: A large, jolly fellow who hides in barrels and only emerges
to throw bottles at anyone in the area. Be sure to take him out quick,
as he can aim his bottle up or down.

Level 1 walkthrough.

Once the level starts, head right and slide down the hill. You will come
to a number of wooden poles you can climb on. A parrot is flying around to
your right. Jump on the parrot to destroy it, then drop down to collect
two money icons floating near a lower section of poles. Drop down again
and land on a small ledge.
There is a pole heading left off of this ledge, with several coins floating
underneath it. Climb along this pole until you get to another ledge with
a book icon and Captain Ahab. Destroy Ahab (if you have no secondary items
he will drop the Boots of Jumping) then head to the far left of the screen.
Jump into the air around here until you hit an invisible book that will
appear and open up. It is floating in the air high above the left half of
the tree. Jump into the book to enter a bonus level!

After you re-enter the level, all enemies and items will reappear, even if
you collected them before entering the bonus level. Head back to the right,
going back over the pole you climbed along to get here. Jump back up to
re-collect the money icons you grabbed earlier, watching out for the parrot.
Once you get these, jump up and right to another ledge with a hill.
Run to the right, jumping up the hill. At the top of the hill in another
Captain Ahab. If you have the boots of jumping you can clear the large
gap to the right and land on a small ledge with two diamonds. If not,
drop down. You land on top on a book creature and can go left or right.
You can go left to collect a few more coins, but this will dead end and you
will have to return. Go right down the slope.
After you slide down the hill you will come to a gap with a platform
circling around. Carefully jump onto this platform and ride it to the
right side. Here there are two ledges you can jump off onto; the bottom
ledge and a higher ledge with a book icon on it. Collect the book off of
the higher ledge, then drop down to the bottom. Kill Captain Ahab here,
then head right up the hill through several coins.
At the top of the hill is a corridor with a parrot flying around at the
end. It is very difficult to jump on this creature, so use a projectile
weapon if you have one or a library book to clear the screen. Just past
the parrot is a series of ropes. At the base of these is a hidden pirate
who will pop out and throw stuff at you. He can not be destroyed, so
simply avoid him as you head right.
Climb up onto the ropes to collect two coins, then jump up again to a
series of higer ropes to climb right through three more coins. Keep going
right until you reach an area where you can climb either up or down. If
you climb down you will land on a small platform with a helmet of
invincibility and a money pickup. If you climb all the way to the top you
will climb right across the ropes and avoid a parrot flying around.
Either way head right across the ropes until you have to drop down to a
ledge. There is another hidden pirate on this ledge so make sure to avoid
it. Head right and jump onto the next set of ropes. Climb to the right
across several icon pickups until you reach a small ledge with George Merry,
who will pop out of the chest and will throw stuff at you. Destroy him and
drop down and to the left.
At the bottom is a ledge with several small platforms crossing the gap.
Quickly jump across these platforms, as they will wobble and fall out from
under you if you stay on them for too long. At the far end climb up the
steep hill. At the top is Captain Ahab. Destroy him then head to the
right to collect the bonus game token.

This level is timed. You only have 15 seconds to grab as many items as
possible before you are returned to level 1.
You are put onto a pirate ship. Run to the right, collecting all 4 coins.
You may need to jump slightly to get them. Then jump up to a long
platform in the rigging. There are 3 more coins. There is also a book
icon at the right, but collecting this will dump you back onto the bottom.
There is a higher platform above the second level book with another book
icon to pick up. Once you are on this platform you can run left and jump
across the gap to find two extra life tokens!

This level is much like the second level of Horror World, where the entire
level scrolls down and you have to keep up and not plummet to your death.
As with the Horror World level, be prepared to replay this level several
times. Remember to wait for a platform to appear on the screen before you
jump on it!
You start on a small platform on a ships mast. Drop down either left or
right to a larger platform below it. Wait until this platform nears the top
of the screen, then take a running leap to the left. You should land on
a small lefthand platform with a coin on it. Drop down to a larger
platform below this one with two coins at the left of it.
Jump off this platform to the right to land on a small platform next to
some rigging with a diamond on it. Drop down again to another platform
below the diamond with two coins. Jump off to the left to a lower platform.
Drop left again to a small platform with a money token on it.
Just under this platform is a large platform crossing the entire screen with
Captain Ahab roaming around. Quickly destroy him as you run to the right,
avoiding the hidden pirate who pops out from behind the righthand mast.
Keep running right until you see a small gap with a moving platform under
it.
Drop down onto the moving platform and it will carry you to the left to a
small platform with a coin. Just below this is another larger platform with
a coin at each edge. Drop down to the left and you will land on a large
platform with a roaming book creature. Avoid or kill the book creature and
run to the left to find a helmet of invincibility. Grab it and quickly run
back to the right. Just past the righthand mast you can drop down to a
lower platform with two coins. Grab them as you run left.
Run left off of the platform and you will land on a lower platform with
George Merry on it. Carfully jump on him or use a projectile to destroy
him, then head left, dropping down to a small platform with a diamond. Drop
down again to a larger platform with two coins and a parrot flying around.
Grab the coins then jump right across the gap, stomping on the parrot if it
gets in your way. Once on the righthand platform drop down to the right
to a small ledge, then drop down to the right again to a large platform
with coins on the left and George Merry on the right.
Kill George Merry if you want to; either way you will need to head left to
drop down to a lower level with a hidden pirate. Head right and grab onto
the horizontal rope. Climb to the right then take the second vertical
rope. Climb down until you reach a platform with a library book token and
a moving platform. Jump on the platform the moment you land in this area.
It will take you across the gap to the left to another platform with the
Pagemaster Hat. You need to do this quick before the level scrolls down
too much.

Run to the right, dropping down to a platform with two coins underneath
the moving platform. Head left and you will be able to jump down to a
larger platform with a book creature roaming about. Destroy this book and
head to the far left. There is a higher ledge here with a coin, but you
may not be able to grab it before it scrolls offscreen.
Head to the very far left and drop down again. There is another hidden
pirate here, so avoid him and head right onto some horizontal ropes. If
you are very fast you climb all the way to the right across the ropes, jump
onto a platform with another hidden pirate, then take a leap of faith right
acrosst the gap to land on another platform with a helmet of invincibility,
but this is very risky.
While on the horizontal ropes, climb down the vertical rope in the middle.
There is a parrot flying around the lower area which you may accidently
stomp on as you climb down. At the very bottom of the rope jump left
to a small platform with a money token, then head right past the vertical
rope to another platform. Head past the mast then drop down to a lower
platform with a diamond, then drop down to the right again to a platform
with three coins.
After you grab these coins, drop down to the left into an area with several
horizontal ropes. Captain Ahab is standing around in this area, but you
can avoid him. Instead of fighting him, head right to collect a crystal,
then drop down to the right onto a lower horizontal rope. If you are fast
you can jump off the rope to the right to a platform with a library book
token on it before returning to the rope.
There are a series of ropes, so drop down a couple times. You will collect
two coins before landing on a platform with a hidden pirate to the left.
Run to the left past him and drop down to a lefthand platform with a money
token on it. Again, if you are fast you can jump up and to the left to
land on another platform with a library book token on it, before returning
to the money token platform.
Jump to the left off this platform, then jump right to a lower platform
with a couple coins on it. Just underneath this platform is the very
bottom of the level. Hooray! George Merry is in a barrel near the
righthand mast, so destroy him before he can throw something at you.
Once on the very bottom of the level, the screen will stop scrolling.
Head to the very left edge of the screen, then jump up to reveal a hidden
portal book! Jump in the book to access a bonus level.

respawn, you will have to fight George Merry again as you head right.

This small level is accessed through the hidden portal book found at the

You start on the top of a hill. Head right and slide down it to collect
three coins. It will drop you onto another slide where you will collect
two extra lives and a library book token. That slide will drop you onto
a third where you will collect five more coins before arriving at the door
to exit the level.

Level 3 walkthrough.

You start on a hill with a palm tree. You can head either left or right.
Head left down the hill to collect four coins and fight Captain Ahab who
is standing under the tree.
From this point we are going to get the library card. This requires the
boots of jumping.
After you kill Captain Ahab, head left until you reach the wall. Jump up
and to the left to reach a secret passageway through the wall. This
requires the boots of jumping. Once you are in the next area, you need to
jump up the vertical shaft by jumping from wall to wall. This also
requires the boots of jumping. There are four coins in this passage.
Once you reach the top, head right down a small hill with three coins to
fight a book creature. Once the book is dead keep heading right and drop
down off the ledge to land in a small passageway with two money tokens and
George Merry at the right. Kill George Merry and head right until you
reach the wall. You will see the library card is a separate area, but we
have to reach it from the other side.
Jump up onto a high ledge with a candlestick. This too requires the boots
of jumping. Be careful not to land on the candlestick as you jump over it
to the right. On the right is another Captain Ahab, and just past him is a
series of horizontal ropes. Since you saw the library card earlier you
know that we are headed down. Drop down the horizontal ropes until you
reach the bottom. At the very left and right side of this area are two
library book tokens. Grab them then head left through the wall into another
secret area with the fourth library card! You will have to jump a little
to get through the wall.

Once you have grabbed the library card and the book tokens, climb or jump
back up the ropes until you reach the top. There is a parrot flying around
here to want to kill or avoid. When you reach the top, head right and
drop onto solid land. Keep heading right, down a long slide with several
coins. You will land on a small ledge with a barrel.
Ignore the barrel and jump right across the gap to land on George Merry.
Keep heading right and drop down to a lower platform with two diamonds on
it. Drop down to the right again and you will land on the bottom level with
a library book token. Grab it and head left, jumping up onto a lefthand
platform with two money tokens. From here head back up to where you fought
George Merry, by jumping to the right platform and then back to George
Merry's Platform.
Once you are back at George Merry's platform. Jump up and to the right
to land on a higher ledge. There is an arc of several coins here, and in
the wall beyond them is a hidden pirate. Avoid him and jump up to the
higher ledge, where you will find another George Merry. Just past him is
a series of horizontal ropes, so grab onto them. There is also a parrot
flying around this area that you can easily avoid.
On the first horizontal rope are two diamonds. Drop down to a lower rope
to collect two crystals. Drop off the ropes and land on solid ground, then
head left to find a moving platform. The platform will slowly carry you
straight down to another platform with Captain Ahab on it. Kill or avoid
him and head right, dropping down to a lower area with a roaming book
creature. You can also head left from Captain Ahab's platform and drop
down onto a small ledge with a helmet of invincibility, but either way you
will end up heading right.
Once the book creature is destroyed, head right, jumping over the
candlestick and heading up the hill. You will slide down the right side of
the hill and fight another George Merry. Just past him is a moving
platform next to the righthand wall. Jump onto it and it will carry you
straight up to a higher ledge. Head left up the hill and you will find
another Captain Ahab in some very tight quarters. Take him out with either
a projectile or a library book.
Just past him is a wall with some large horizontal books stacked in front of
it. Use these as platforms to jump up to a higher ledge with a parrot
flying around. Kill the parrot and head right over the small hill to find
the level exit!

Level 4 walkthrough.

You start on the lower level of a pirate ship. Head right along the bottom
picking up two coins as you run along. You will soon see a diagonal rope
connecting to the bottom of the deck. You can not climb along this rope,
but pirates will occasionally swing down from it and try to cut you as they
go by. Simply wait until one passes by, then run past it.
Immediately past the swinging pirates is Captain Ahab. He can be difficult
to see as he is standing next to the mast. Jump on him to destroy
him. From this point we can go two ways. If you are simply interested in
getting through the level as fast as possible, keep heading right along the
bottom deck of the ship until you reach a door in the ground to end the
level.
But we are trying to get as many items as possible, so we will take a
slightly more difficult path. After you kill Captain Ahab, jump up to
a platform on the left side of the mast. Jump up again and you will get to
a higher level. Head right to collect a few coins and fight a wandering
book creature. If you keep heading right you will grab an additional
library book token, but be careful as there is a George Merry on the bottom
who will occasionally throw things your way. Avoid those and head back
to the left to the area where you first jumped up.
You will see several coins in an arc to your left, over a gap. Jump over
this gap to the left, crossing back over the diagonal rope with the
swinging pirates. As you land on the other side a hidden pirate will pop
out from behind the mast and will eventually throw something at you.
Simply run past him and jump up on the lefthand mast platform, collecting
a diamond. Jump up again to a higher level to collect a crystal, then
head right.
You will pass through a long area with several coins and another Captain
Ahab. Keep heading right until you see a moving platform. Walk onto this
platform and it will carry you right across the gap through three more
coins. On the far end keep heading right. You will see another gap and
a Parrot flying around.
Jump across the gap, jumping on the parrot partway across if you need to
gain some extra distance, and land on the right side. Another hidden
pirate will pop out to throw stuff at you, so run right to the other side
of the mast to avoid him. To the right of this platform you will see
several ropes; one headed horizontally to the right and one headed down.
Jump right to collect the coins in the air and land on the horizontal rope.
Drop down to a lower horizontal rope. You can head left to grab a diamond,
then head down the vertical rope some more to grab a helmet of
invincibility. You can head right to grab another diamond before dropping
down to a platform with a sleeping book on it.
Head right past the sleeping book to grab more coins and fight a book
creature. If you try to jump on the book, be careful as there is another
diagonal rope with swinging pirates in this area, and they can easily
hit you as you jump around. Alternatively, you can grab onto the sleeping
book and throw it at at the book creature, which will kill it quite
easily.
At the far end of this area is another mast with a money icon on the far
side. Collect the money, then jump directly up to land on another small
platform. You will need the boots of jumping to do this, or you can use
the sleeping book as a platform to jump off of. There is another hidden
pirate here, but if you stay on the right side of the mast you will be
fine. Jump up again to land on the very top of the mast, where you will
find the bonus game icon!

Jump back down to the platform with the hidden pirate. You will see a
large circle of coins floating in the air. Wait until a moving platform
comes your way, then hop onto it and ride it all the way around to collect
the floating coins. When the platform is on the right side, jump off to
the platform there.
There is another mast right where you jumped off. Hop on top of this mast
to find another library book icon floating in the air above it. Jump down
from the top of the mast and head right, where you will face off against a
parrot. Kill the parrot and collect all the coins here as you keep heading
right. At the end of this area there will be a rope heading down, attached
to a higher platform.
You can climb down the rope (or simply drop down) to a lower platform with
a money icon and a hidden pirate. You can then jump across the righthand
gap to collect a diamond and another invincibility helmet. Once you grab
this head back across the gap to the left, then climb up the rope (or
simply jump up the platforms) until you reach the very top platform.
There are several coins floating in the air above a gap, so jump to the
right and grab some of them. It is very difficult to get them all without
falling into the gap. On the far side of the gap is another hidden pirate.
Just to the right of him is a horizontal rope with several coins below it.
Take this rope to the right and collect those coins.
Drop down on the far side, then drop down again to find a library book
on a lower platform. Jump back up to the top platform and head right until
the platform ends. When it does, jump off it to the right as far as you
can. You will fall to the very bottom of the level, and will land right
next to the level exit, seen as a door in the ground.

This level puts you back in the tropics. Head right up the small hill to
collect two coins. At the top of this is a gap with a moving platform.
Walk onto the platform and take it across to the right side. On the far
side head down the hill, collecting two more coins. To the right of these
is George Merry, so jump on him to destroy him. Just past him is another
moving platform.
Take the platform across the gap. When it hits the right side it will
fall out from under you, so jump off it before it does and keep heading
right. You will encounter Captain Ahab standing underneath a tree, and
past him a hidden pirate.
There are two ways to go from here. If you have the boots of jumping you
can jump up the lefthand vertical shaft (the one without the rope). We will
take the other way, however. Climb up the rope in the righthand vertical
shaft. You will reach a platform with a diamond token and the fairy book
floating in the air above you.
Grab onto the fairy book and use it to fly all the way to the very top of
the shaft. You will need to avoid a hidden pirate, collect a money token,
and then collect a diamond as you reach the top level. Once you are
deposited at the top, head left. You will head up a hill with three coins
before encountering Captain Ahab. Destroy him and keep heading left.
There is a hill with three coins you will slide down, before running into
a wandering book creature. Destroy the book and then hop up onto a higher
lefthand ledge. Keep heading left over this ledge. You will soon drop
down to a lower area where you will have to fight another George Merry.
Just past George Merry is another hidden pirate. Head left to the wall
with the hidden pirate, then jump up to reach another ledge. If you do not
have the boots of jumping you will need to use the barrel that is on the
previous ledge as a jumping platform.
Once you are on the new ledge, keep heading left and you will come to a
rope headed down. Take the rope down and it will deposit you onto a lower
ledge with a hidden pirate. Avoid the pirate and drop down to another
ledge with another hidden pirate. On the righthand wall of this ledge,
however, is a hidden area. We will enter this area later, but for now we
will head down to find the hidden portal book.
Drop down from the ledge with the hidden pirate and you will land on a
series of ropes. Collect the money token, then drop down to grab a diamond.
Drop down again and grab onto the rope heading down, taking care to avoid
the hidden pirate here. Climb down the rope until you reach the bottom.
This is where the hidden portal book is.
There is a barrel in the background, just under the rope. Stand just to
the right of this barrel, then jump directly up to hit the hidden portal
book and open it. You will need to jump back onto the rope and climb up
it a little in order to jump into the book itself.

Once you return from the bonus level, jump back onto the rope and climb
back up. You can drop down and head right a distance to find a Pagemaster
Hat and take the long way around, but we are going to head back
up to the hidden area we found earlier as a shortcut. Climb up the rope,
then jump back up the horizontal ropes collecting the diamond and money
tokens. Once you reach the top of the horizontal ropes, jump back onto the
righthand ledge. This will require the boots of jumping. You need to jump
left towards the wall and rebound off it to reach the ledge. Be sure to
watch out for the hidden pirate here.
Once you are back on this ledge, head right through the hidden area in the
wall. You will come to an empty space with three coins floating in the
air and a high platform on the right. We do not need to get to that
platform (it is part of the long way around we avoided by taking this
shortcut!) so drop down several ledges, avoiding all the hidden pirates as
you make your way to the bottom.
At the very bottom head right. After you walk through two coins you will
see Captain Ahab. It is very close quarters here, so use a projectile or
a library book to destroy him. Head right once more and you will find
another Captain Ahab in close quarters once more. Again, use a projectile
or a library book to get rid of that one too. After you destroy that one
you will come to a hill that will slide you down right into the path of
a book creature. Quickly destroy the book before it bites you.
Once past the book creature, jump up onto the righthand ledge to collect
a diamond, then jump again onto another ledge with a hidden pirate. Avoid
the stuff he throws and jump up onto yet another ledge with yet another
hidden pirate. This ledge has a helmet of invincibility, however, so make
sure to grab it. There is a rope hanging in the air above this ledge, so
grab onto it and climb up. At the top are two coins.
Jump off the rope to the left and head down the hill. There is another
close quarters Captain Ahab here that will require a secondary weapon or
a library book to take out. Keep heading left until the ledge ends. As you
drop down, you may notice the library card in an area to the left. The
ledge you drop down onto will have a diamond token. Grab the diamond and
head left to the wall. There is another hidden area here, so run through
the wall into another area with the bonus game token and a rope heading
upwards.

Once you grab the bonus game token, jump onto the rope and climb it to the
top. At the top of the rope is a ledge with the fifth library card!

This level puts you on the deck of a pirate ship. There are many coins and
two extra lives here. This is a timed level.
You start on a platform. Head right to collect a couple coins, then jump
up to the higher platform to grab and extra life token. Jump right across
the gap to land on another platform with another life token. Drop down
to the bottom level and head left to collect more coins. Once the coins
are collected head back to the right along the bottom to the bonus level
exit.

This is a scrolling level.
You start at the left side of the screen. Head right down the small hill
to collect two coins. At the bottom of the hill is George Merry, so jump
on him before he can throw stuff at you. Head past him to the right, up
the next hill with a couple more coins. At the very top of this hill is
Captain Ahab. Destroy him or simply jump over him and head down the hill.
At the bottom of this hill is a horizontal rope. Jump onto it and climb
to the right, collecting a diamond, money, and crystal icon before landing
on the far ledge. There is a parrot flying around here you will need to
jump on and destroy. Avoid the hidden pirate at the base of the horizontal
rope and head right up the small hill. You will come to a ledge with a
medium sized gap.
Wait until you can see the far side of the gap, then jump over to the next
ledge. Fight George Merry here, then head up the hill and fight Captain
Ahab. Just past Ahab is a moving platform over a gap. Wait until you can
see a ledge on the far side, then hop onto the platform to slide across and
collect a diamond, money, and crystal token. If you are fast, you can
drop down off the platform just before it reaches the far side to land on
a lower ledge, then head right through the wall into a small secret area
with an extra life token, but you will have to jump back up to the ledge
the moving platform deposits you at.
Head right down the hill, destroying the parrot that flies around in this
area. Jump over the candlestick and you will find another gap. Jump
across the gap to the righthand ledge and head all the way to the right
to activate a pagemaster hat.

Jump right onto the higher ledge, then head down the slight hill to find
another Captain Ahab. Just past him is another gap. This gap is very
large and there is a small platform in the middle. This platform will
drop out from under you if you stand on it for very long. Hug the left
side of the screen, and when the left ledge has nearly disappeared jump
onto the platform. If you time it right, you will land on the center
platform just as the righthand ledge appears on the screen. Jump off the
platform and onto the far ledge before it drops out from under you.
Once on the far side, head right up the hill to find another Captain Ahab.
Head down the hill past him and fight George Merry before heading up the
next hill, where you will find a parrot. Just past this parrot is another
gap.
Jump across the gap and head down the hill to fight Captain Ahab again.
Just past Ahab is another gap with a parrot flying around. Kill the parrot
and jump across the gap to find the level exit on the far ledge!

Enemies
----------------------
Books: These creatures walk around the ground, and can lunge and snap at
you. Sometimes they will fly around in the air for a short period of
time. They are probably the most common enemy you will encounter, and
appear in all three worlds.
Humpty Dumpty: He sits on platforms and falls when Richard is near, similar
to the Frankenstein's Hand in Horror World. After Humpty Dumpty has
fallen to the ground he is harmless, and you can run right through him.
He will only fall to the ground once.
Spitting Flower: They may appear to be harmless, but watch out when they
bloom - they spit eggs! This creature is indestructible.
Fire Creature: Ouch! It burns so keep well away.
Swordsman: According to the game manual it is a skeleton, but I honestly
can't really tell. The swordsman can not be killed by jumping on it,
but it will be stunned for a moment. Projectiles also do not work
against it.
Lilliputians: The little people carry spears which are usually used to
prod things, but sometimes they are thrown!

Level 1 walkthrough.

You start at the bottom left corner of the screen. Run to the right,
and you will head up a small hill, collecting two eggs as you do so.
You will quickly come to a wall. Look up and you will see a circle of
eggs hovering in the air, with a moving platform rotating around them.
Jump onto the platform (this may take a couple of tries to do so), and
ride it around to collect all the eggs. When the platform is at the top
of its arc, jump off and to the left to land on a ledge with a swordsman.
Jump on him, or simply ignore him and keep jumping left onto the pile of
large books. Jump up off these books to find a new ledge where you can
head right.
Head right, collecting a few more eggs as you do so. You will head
down a small slope. Be careful as you do so, as there is a book that is
very easy to run into. Jump on the book to get the boots of jumping, then
keep going right until you find a bunch of vines.
Climb down the vertical vine closest to you to collect a book pickup on
a low ledge. You can then drop down even farther to collect a crystal
and a diamond. Underneath these pickups is a lilliputian (ring)
running around on the floor. Drop onto this enemy to destroy it, and pick
up the money at the left. If you have the sticky hands, you can keep
going right, and cross the gap, picking up a couple more diamonds along
the way. If you don't, you will have to climb back up the way you came.
(If you can head across the gap, skip the next two paragraphs)
If you head back up the vines (or chose to simply cross the vines and
not mess around with the pickups) you will find yourself on the right
ledge next to a flowerpot enemy. This enemy can not be jumped on, and
will ocassionally pop up to spit stuff out at you. Avoid it and continue
right, down the slope. As you get to the bottom of the slope pause and
wait for Humpty Dumpty to fall off a ledge. After he crashes into the
ground he is harmless, so just walk past him and up the next slope,
collecting a few more eggs.
At the top of this slope is another lilliputian running around.
Jump on it and keep heading right until you find a candlestick. Jump
over the candlestick and avoid the swordsman to its right. Jump onto
the next set of vines, collecting money. You can drop down and get a
diamond as well. You can head right across the vines and collect a
crystal. Just past this crystal is a secret passageway in the wall that
will allow you to skip a considerable portion of the level. If you do
choose to take the secret passageway, skip down to the second from last
paragraph of this walkthrough. That's right. You can skip almost half the
level with this.
If you don't take the secret passageway, head left and climb down the vines,
making sure to avoid the fire creature moving around on a righthand ledge.
Drop down the vines, making sure to collect the two library books on a
lefthand ledge and money pickup on a righthand ledge.
Additionally, on the lefthand ledge (with the large books) there is a
secret area you can access by running through the black wall. This
will put you in a small area where you can pick up the bonus game icon.

Furthermore, on the righthand ledge by the money pickup is another
secret area you can get to by heading through the black wall on the
right. (you will need to jump slightly to enter the secret passageway.

At the very bottom is a lilliputian (magic dust). This is where you would
have ended up if you had the sticky hands and crossed the gap two paragraphs
earlier. Head right.
You will cross a stone that will drop out from under you. Quickly jump
off of this stone and onto the next ledge. You will find another
lilliputian, who can be difficult to get rid of unless you have a
projectile pickup like the magic dust. You may want to kill the enemy
before you jump off of the falling stone.
Keep going right, over another of the falling stones. You will come to
a large gap with a moving platform and some eggs. Use this platform to
cross the gap and arrive at another ledge with a candlestick. Jump over
the candlestick. You will find a sleeping book. Keep heading right up
the small hill to another swordsman. Avoid it and keep going right until
you reach a pile of large books. Jump off of them to another ledge high
up. You will need the boots of jumping to reach this ledge.
Once you are on this ledge, kill the lilliputian running around and head
left. You will walk onto a platform that will move to the lefthand ledge
with a spitting flower. Avoid its spit and head left up the hill.
At the top of this hill is a fairy book. This is where the secret
passageway from earlier in the level (paragraph 6) will deposit you. Jump
onto the fairy book and press up to ride it upwards to the next ledge.
(If you have the boots of jumping you can simply jump onto this ledge as
well.)
Head right and down a slope, collecting more eggs. At the bottom, wait
for Humpty Dumpty to crash down before running up the righthand slope.
Keep going right and through the door to end the level!

This small level is accessed through the hidden portal book found partway
through level 1 of Fantasy World. (paragraph 9 of that walkthrough). This
is a timed level.
You begin in a corridor in a cave. Head right collecting a money token,
extra life, diamond, extra life, library book, crystal, extra life and
money token along the bottom. Jump up onto a higher left ledge and head
left to collect additional money, diamond, and crystal tokens before
reaching the exit.

Begin by heading right, up a slope where several eggs are floating. At the
top of this slope is a lilliputian you can destroy. Head back down the
slope and you will come to several vines, with some eggs hovering in the

You can head straight across the vines, or you can drop down to a lower
level where a book creature is wandering around. Destroy this book and
head left. Carefully jump onto a rotating platform and ride it to the
far side. Keep heading left through the tunnel here, getting past a
swordsman and collecting more eggs. At the very end is the bonus game
icon!

Head back to the right, carefully riding the rotating platform back to the
right side.
Keep heading right along the lower level, past where you earlier destroyed
the book creature. Jump down to an even lower level where you will come
up against another lilliputian and several more eggs. At the far right
side of these eggs is another rotating platform. There is a book on the
far side you will need to destroy.
Right around where the book creature is is a small vertical passageway. If
you have the boots of jumping you can jump up this passage and into another
corridor where there are diamond, money, and crystal pickups. Head right,
jumping on the moving platform to ride it across the spikes and through
several eggs. At the far end you will find a helmet of invincibility and
a library card!

Head back the way you came. Since you have the Helmet of Invincibility you
can just run back over the spikes, or you could wait for the moving
platform. Drop back down to where the vertical shaft started, near the
book you destroyed earlier.
From this point you can go two ways. If you have the sticky hands, you can
go right, as you will need them to cross a gap farther on. If you do not
have the sticky hands, you will need to backtrack to where you first
encountered the vines near the start of the level.
This time, instead of dropping down, take the vines across the gap to a
path on the right with a lilliputian. Destroy it and head up the hill,
collecting more eggs. Keep heading right, watching out for spikes in the
floor that you can walk into. Run past a swordsman and up the hill to
jump on a book creature.
Once the book is destroyed, jump over the spikes and keep going right. Run
past another swordsman (watching out for more floor spikes) and another
book creature until you reach the end of the path. Here you can drop down
and fight a lilliputian. Keep heading right, dropping down two more ledges
until you reach the bottom. You will see a small ledge with empty space
underneath. Once on the bottom, run underneath this ledge and you will
end the level!

Level 3 Walkthrough

The level begins by scrolling right. Head right and pick up the eggs that
are along your path. You will soon come to a wall. The level will begin
to scroll upwards, so jump up on the lefthand ledge and collect the money
token. Keep jumping up to the next righthand ledge and collect a diamond,
then a crystal when you jump to the top ledge.
Head left as the level begins to scroll that way. In this section you will
need to act fast. You can head down the small slope and collect two more
eggs and a book, but you will then need to backtrack slightly and jump up
to the upper ledge as the level begins to scroll once more. There is a
lilliputian running around on this ledge. Jump on it or avoid it if it is
far away from you. Keep heading upwards.
On these next few ledges you will collect more eggs and a diamond before
reaching the top and heading right once more. Head down the slope, being
careful to watch out for the book enemy that is moving around here. It is
very easy to run directly into it. Once the book is destroyed, jump right
over the gap and head up the slope, collecting two more eggs.
At the top of the slope is a swordsman, so avoid him and run down the other
side of the hill, collecting a couple more eggs. You will run into another
wall, so start heading down. A couple ledges down you will find another
lilliputian who may throw spears at you, so be carefull. Keep heading
down, and at the bottom you will head left.
As you go left you will find another swordsman, so avoid him if you can, or
if the area is too closely confined for your tastes, use a book to destroy
him. There is a lower ledge to the left of the swordsman, so jump down to
it, and then jump left across the gap. As you do so the level will start
scrolling down once more. Drop down, taking care not to land in the path
of the book roaming around on the bottom level.
As you destroy (or avoid) the book here, the level will start scrolling
right. Keep up with it, but to not head onto the stone platform until you
can see the other ledge across the gap that it will carry you to. When you
can see your landing zone, ride the stone across the gap to the next ledge.
You actually have to move yourself onto the stone. You can not just have
the scrolling level carry you onto the stone, or it will move out from
under you and you will plummet to your death.
On the other side, head up the hill, collecting a couple more eggs. At the
top of the hill you will run past a Pagemaster Hat, letting you continue
from this point should you die.

Keep going right down the hill, getting two more eggs. Just past these
eggs is a spitting flower, so be careful to avoid its projectiles. This is
rather hard to do, as it seems the level puts an invisible ceiling
on this hill (to ensure you pass through the Pagemaster hat), and you can
not actually jump on the flower to destroy it. One way to avoid the
flower's projectiles is to run at it the moment it comes onto the screen.
If you time it right, you will run down the hill and the projectile will
pass over your head.
Once you are past the flower, you will climb onto a vine and head right,
through a couple diamonds and a money icon. When the vine ends at the
righthand ledge, jump off and head right through several eggs. You will
eventually come to a wall and will need to head up.
On the first ledge you have to jump to, there is a lilliputian running
around, but you should be able to avoid it. Keep jumping up from ledge to
ledge, collecting several eggs and a diamond. On an upper ledge is a
roaming book, but it should be easy enough to land on it as you jump up
to the ledge its on.
Two ledges past the book is a very small ledge you need to jump onto before
the scrolling heads left. This ledge is actually just a small part of a
larger ledge, but you can not wait until more is revealed before jumping
onto it. This may not sound like much, but there is a lilliputian running
around here as well, which may make jumping onto this ledge and surviving
difficult.
Once the screen begins scrolling left, head left. If you didn't already
kill the lilliputian, do so. Head up the hill, collecting more eggs, and
avoid the spitting plant at the top. Jump left across the gap, avoiding or
killing the roaming book here. The level will begin to scroll down, so
jump down ledge to ledge. At the bottom is another book, so jump on it
or avoid it if possible. As the level scrolls right, take the stone
platform across the gap and avoid the swordsman on the other side.
Right after the swordsman the level will scroll up again. Jump up onto
a higher ledge, collecting a diamond. Climb up the vine. The bonus game

Level 4 Walkthrough

Start by heading right up a slight hill. You will go through a short
tunnel and will arrive at a ledge. You can drop down off this ledge into
a larger area with a fire creature roaming about. Carefully avoid the
fire creature and head right, dropping down off the ledge.
You will land on a platform, which will eventually drop out from under you.
Stay on the platform as it drops down, and you will land safetly at the
bottom. Head left, jumping up onto the ledge and going through a short
tunnel. Drop down off the ledge, and with luck you will land on a
lilliputian that is running around here.
From here you can go left or right. In order to pass the obstacles to the
right, however, you will need to grab a helmet of invincibility that is on
the left. Head left down the hill, destroying the book creature that is
roaming around. Just past the book creature is the helmet of invincibility.
Grab it and run back up the hill to the right. Head down the righthand
side of the hill to find a fire creature right next to a ledge. Stand on
the ledge and wait for the moving platform. Since you have the helmet of
invincibility you will not get hurt by the fire creature. On the far side
of the gap is a spitting flower that will immediately attack you, but you
should still be invincible and can pass right through it.
On the far side of the flower is a hill with two eggs. Run up the hill and
take the moving platform across the gap, collecting two crystals and a
diamond before reaching the far side where you will find the Pagemaster
Hat.

Just past the Pagemaster Hat is a Fairy Book. Grab onto this book and
take it all the way up to the top ledge. Once on the ledge, head left
where you will again jump over the gap you just crossed. If you have the
boots of jumping, you can jump up the wall on the right side of the gap
and collect a book token in the top corner.
Jump left across the gap. On the far side wait until Humpty Dumpty falls to
the ground, then continue left. There is a lower area to the left with a
swordsman in it. Avoid the swordsman and jump up onto the left ledge
with a spitting flower and a vertical vine. Avoid the flower and climb up
the vine.
At the very top of the vine you will head right, collecting two money tokens
and a crystal before dropping onto solid land. There is a lilliputian
running around here, so destroy it and keep heading right, up the small hill
then down a large slope. Another swordsman awaits you at the bottom. Avoid
it or destroy it with a library book. Just past the swordsman is a
candlestick.
Stop right before the candlestick, and jump directly up. This part
requires the boots of jumping. As you jump you will see a short vertical
shaft. Jump to the left wall of the shaft, then jump again to rebound off
the wall to reach a high ledge. Head down the short hill to the right to
collect the bonus game icon.

Just past the bonus game token is a secret passageway in the wall. Head
right through the wall to enter a hidden area with the seventh library
card!

Once you have the library card, backtrack until you drop down into the
area with the candlestick. Be careful not to land on the candlestick as you
drop down. Once you are back on the bottom level, jump over the
candlestick and head right. You will run up a small hill, then will drop
down to a lower ledge with a spitting flower. Avoid the flower and drop
down to an even lower ledge, then drop down again until you reach the
bottom where you will see another candlestick.
Hop over the candlestick and head left. Head up the small hill and drop
down off the ledge to the bottom level. Head left, avoiding a swordsman
wandering around here. Run until you reach a wall, then jump up onto an
empty platform (this requires the boots of jumping). Jump around on this
platform until you hit a hidden portal book and it opens. Jump inside the
portal book to enter a bonus level!

After returning from the bonus level, drop back down to the bottom.
Remember that all the enemies have respawned, but luckily you are almost
to the end of the level. Avoid the swordsman and run right until you
reach Humpty Dumpty. Wait for Humpty Dumpty to fall down then run past
him.
Head right a little more until you reach the level exit!

Bonus Level 3.2 walkthrough.
-----------------------
This is a timed level. You have approximately 20 seconds to grab everything
you can.
This is a large room. You start at the top left part of it on a platform.
There are two platforms on the top; the one you are standing on, and one
to your right. Between and to the sides of these platforms are long drops
filled with pickups. If you have the boots of jumping you will be able to
jump back up and collect them all. If not, you will have to choose only
one of the drops down. The one on the far right is the best.
Left drop down: money (2), extra life, diamond, crystal
Middle drop down: money, extra life (2), diamond, crystal
Right drop down: Extra life (3), library book (2)
At the bottom are several eggs with the level exit in the center. While it
looks like there is a platform over the exit, there is a hidden gap just
over it that can cause you to fall in and accidently end the level before
you are ready to.

Level 5 Walkthrough

Level Includes:

This is a scrolling level. The level starts scrolling right. Head right,
making sure to jump over the spikes in the floor and avoiding or destroying
the lilliputian just beyond them. Head up the hill, collecting several
eggs as you do so, and destroy the book creature roaming around at the
top.
To the right of the book is a moving platform that will carry you through
several icons. The platform will fall at the far end, so make sure to jump
off of it in time. On this next ledge is a swordsman, so avoid him and
keep heading right as the level begins to scroll down and to the right.
Head down the hill, collecting more eggs. At the bottom is another
lilliputian, followed by vines you need to climb across. Grab onto the
vines and head right, picking up more icons. At the other side is a book
creature, so destroy it and keep heading right. Make sure to jump over
the floor spikes and destroy another lilliputian before the bottom floor
ends and you have to jump up onto another ledge.
On this ledge is a swordsman, so avoid it and keep going right down the
hill. At the bottom of this hill is a Pagemaster Hat you can walk through
next to some large spikes.

Head right, jumping over the spikes, and up the hill, collecting more eggs.
At the top is a swordsman, with a moving platform to the right. As with
the previous platform, this one will fall once it reaches the end. On the
far ledge is a book creature.
Destroy the book creature and head right down the hill. At the bottom are
more floor spikes you need to jump over. Just past these is a gap you
must jump over. The next platform contains a swordsman with another gap to
the right. The next ledge after this contains a lilliputian running
around. Destroy the lilliputian and head right.
After walking right some more you will come to the level exit!

We have reached the final level in the game!
Begin by heading right, up and down some small hills until you come to
a spitting flower. Just past this flower is a lilliputian. Destroy it and
then keep heading right, jumping up onto the next ledge and heading down
a small hill and past a swordsman.
Past the swordsman is Humpty Dumpty, so wait for him to fall before running
past to face off against a book creature. On the other side of the book
creature is a drop down to a lower level. Drop down and head left, down a
small hill to another drop. Just across the gap you will see a smooth
section of the wall. You may have to drop down and then jump back up to
enter this area. This will require the boots of jumping to accomplish.
Just through the secret wall entrance is an area with a library book icon
and a book creature roaming about. Destroy it and keep heading left. You
will drop down into another area with two more library book icons and
the bonus game icon.

At the far left of this area is a platform with a lilliputian running
around on it. There is no room to jump on it, so you will need to use a
projectile or clear the screen with one of the library books you just
collected. Once the lilliputian is gone, head left over the platform,
dropping down until you reach the Pagemaster Hat.

Head right, up the small hill until you reach the end. Just across the
gap here is another smooth area. This is a little easier to get into, as
you will land in it if you simply run off the side of the ledge. Head
right into another secret area where you will find the final library card!

Floating in the air immediately above the library card is a hidden portal
book. Jump around until you hit the book and it opens up. Jump inside the
book to enter a bonus level.

Once back from the bonus level, you will have to head left, the way you
came. Do not drop down into the gap just outside the hidden exit to the
library card, or you will land on an enemy and will be knocked off,
plummeting to your death. Keep heading back to the left, past the
Pagemaster Hat once more.
To the left of the Pagemaster Hat, drop down to a lower level. You can head
right, down a small hill to collect the invincibility helmet. Then head
back and left down the hill to where Humpty Dumpty, a fire creature, and
a spitting flower all are. Since you have the invincibility helmet, simply
run through them until you reach a lilliputian. Destroy this lilliputian
and jump over the large gap to your left. (this may require the boots of
jumping).
On the lefthand ledge is a moving platform. Ride that to the left. On the
other side is a book creature and a vine heading up. Climb the vine up.
The top ledge contains a lilliputian running around. It is easiest to take
this guy out with a projectile or library book instead of trying to jump
on it.
Head right down the small hill to encounter a swordsman. Past the
swordsman is a rotating platform. Jump on the platform and ride it around
to the other side, where a book creature awaits. Keep heading right up
the small hill to find another swordsman and a vine heading up. Avoid the
swordsman and climb up.
Jump off to the left on the top ledge. Run left, up and down the next hill
to find another lilliputian. Destroy it and keep heading left to reach
the exit!

Bonus Level 3.3 walkthrough.

This is a very small, timed level. Head right, down a steep hill. You
will collect money, life, and a diamond. At the bottom head right up the
next hill, collecting another life, a crystal, life, and more money. At

I have to say that after busting my ass to get all eight library cards,
I am a bit disappointed in this "good" ending. I was expecting something
a little more involved than a simple "congratulations" screen.

Bonus Game Information:
To access the bonus game, you need to collect the dark bonus game book
icon from within a normal level.
In the bonus game, you are placed into a small room where many items are
falling down on you. Your goal is to catch the good items (diamonds, money,
etc...) and avoid being hit by stacks of books or skulls. You are not
required to collect every single item; thus if you miss one, the minigame
will still continue.
The game starts out easy in Horror world, but in later levels the items
begin to drop faster and it gets considerably more difficult.
If you survive for a long enough period of time, the level will end and you
will automatically get 10,000 points.
