Super Kick Off (or Pro Soccer) is an extremely dull soccer title for the Game
Boy. There are two types of gameplay modes where you actually play, but the
computer is tough and plays more aggressively than you probably could. There
are tournament-like modes, but they are simply screens full of statistics;
you don't actually get to play those games at all. It's a shame really since
it would have made the game so much more interesting and even worth playing.
I would suggest moving on; there are better soccer games out there.

Game Modes
==========
At the title screen, after you press Start, you will have a variety of
options to choose from:
Practice: Play without an opponent on the field, where you can practice
either skills or penalty kicks (both kicking and defending
against them).
Single Game: Play a single game using Team A or Team B (set in Options
menu).
Int Game: Play a game using international teams.
Events: Watch various tournament types play out (more like viewing
screens of the standings and choosing to continue watching the
results appear or not). You can also select from a longer list of
teams to be in each group.
Options: Tweak a variety of options pertaining to gameplay.
If you choose Single Game or Int Game mode, it will be decided at random who
wins the coin toss. This determines whether or not you can pick what end of
the field you defend. Before the kick off, you can choose your formation from
several options (you have to be familiar with soccer to understand them, even
though they are self-explanatory, since there are no diagrams).
Once the formation is set, the game will commence.

General Gameplay
================
The games are split into two periods with five minutes apiece (you can change
these settings when you start the game). You do not have the option to switch
your players manually during the game; you generally have control of the
person closest to the ball.
During the actual game, your team's available actions will depend on if you
are on the offense (possessing the ball currently) or defense (other team has
the ball). Those controls are as follows:
Offense: A - Long pass/shoot
B - Short pass
Defense: A - Slide (this is how you steal the ball from an opponent)
Generally, the game will give you control of the player closest to the ball.
This can become particularly annoying because the other players are computer
controlled, and you can become confused over who you are controlling rather
quickly. It does not help that the computer is tough, so you will need to try
your hardest to get anywhere near the opponent's goal! There is no visible
net in the game either, so just assume that the net is behind the box that is
drawn in front of it.
If the ball goes out of bounds during play, by bouncing off the goal posts or
being kicked out accidentally, possession of the ball goes to the opposing
team. Basically, if your team was the last to touch the ball as it went out
of bounds, the other team will get the ball. To return the ball to play, it
will be kicked/thrown in, either from the sides or by the goal keeper,
depending on where and how the ball went out of bounds.
If you are on the defense and the opposition is approaching your goal, your
goal keeper will automatically act based on the circumstances. When a goal is
made, play resumes at the center line with the opposing team starting with
the ball again.
If the ball is not under possession by any player, you can simply run up and
take it by touching it. If you slide, you do not get automatic possession;
you still need to get the ball yourself. There are no fouls in this game, so
you don't need to worry about being too rough with the opposing players! Be
very careful when attempting to shoot at the goal, as there is NO automatic
aiming in this game! If you are not facing the direction you intend on
shooting at, you WILL miss. The camera view does not help you here either.
A useful thing to note is that you can call a time out by pressing Start.
This will pause the game, but you can use the Control Pad to view the rest of
the field. It can come in handy when trying to see what is coming up ahead of
you.
After the game, you can either continue or quit.

Post Game
=========
If in the event a game is tied after the second period ends, you will
automatically go into a Penalty Kick showdown.
In Penalty Kick mode, each side takes turns attempting to make a goal.
Basically, a cursor moves back and forth; stop it by pressing A and that is
where your kick will be aimed at. Whether or not the shot makes it in depends
on the goal keeper's action of course. If there is no tie after the penalty
kicks are taken, the team with more points wins, otherwise it continues.
