I - Introduction
_________________

Side pocket for Sega Genesis is an enhanced adaptation of the original Arcade
game with the same name. It was released in 1992 by data East itself.
This version consists of four game modes and Jukebox.

II - Game modes, rules & score system
_________________________

1P Pocket Game:
History mode itself. Go across USA, reach the necessary points an beat the
challenges shots to be awarded as "pool king".
You need to reach the minimum score and pass the following stages:

Los Angeles - 3000 points - Star: yes. Zone: yes. Super: enabled for 9 and 10
balls tables. Challenge: no.

Las Vegas - 4000 points - Star: yes. Zone: yes. Super: enabled for 9 and 10
balls tables. Challenge: yes.

San Francisco - 5000 points Zone: Star: yes. yes. Super: enabled for 9 and 10
balls tables. Challenge: yes.

New York - 6000 points - Star: yes. Zone: no. Super: no. Challenge: yes.

Atlantic City - 7000 points - Star: yes. Zone: no. Super: no. Challenge: yes.

You start the game with 16 tries represented by 8 balls on the top of screen.
If you not drop any ball, you lost one try and the current ball marker starts
to blink, another miss and the ball disappear. If you drop your own ball (white
ball) you lost two tries, this rule applies to drop in the zone hole too, but in
this case you not be over before your zone try.
If you drop your ball after hit the super ball you lost one try only.
Drop one table ball in the zone hole make it works like hole star hole (it
even can give a "trick" bonus who's worth nothing)

Consecutive score:
If you drop your balls without miss one shot, you'll be awarded with extra
points if you clear the table.
You can also, drop your balls by ascending numeric values (1,2,3...) with the
same reward.
The score system for consecutive drops works like below:

500 point extra for any consecutive hits:

2 - 500
3 - 1000
4 - 1500
And so on ...

Complete set - 5000 for consecutive or numeric hits, making 10000 points for
the "perfect game".

Tips:
Try drop your all balls in numeric order to achieve 5000 points, it's easier
than drop all balls in sequence.
Drop your White ball in the hole marked as Zone to have more chances to get
bonus points/balls.
Every first star hole dropped is a "Trick" (0 points) but subsequent drops
gives good bonus points or ups (balls).

2P Pocket Game:
A five set match against your friend by the rules of pocket game (aka score
more points)

2P 9-Ball Game:
You can choose between 3,7 or 15 set matches to compete against player two, by
the rules of 9-ball AKA hit the lower ball on the table, until you can drop the
ball 9.
Ball 9 can be dropped indirectly.
Miss a shot or hit other than lowest ball throw one foul, making your opponent
choose the ball position before his/her shoot.
All pocket rules exists in nine-ball game, but the win is only achieved by
drop the ball 9.

Trick Game:
Challenge yourself through 19 challenges for... Well... See one girl photo,
and impress your friends !!!

Jukebox:
The (good) soundtrack of the game. note: it doesn't have sfx, just musics.

A - Start gauge meter, pressed again throw the shoot.
B - press: Change view between colors and numeric.
hold: While holding B button, you can move the area of the ball which your
 cue will hit.
By that logic, to access the top area of the ball you need to hold B button
and tap the up button 5 times.
C - Cancel the shot if gauge is started.
START - Aim mode. Use C button change the mode between "dot" and "circle" aim.
press START again to return to the game.

ARROWS (directional buttons) - Tap the button to move one frame for that
direction if possible. It's have the limit considering cardinal points and
diagonals. Moving to opposite directions will make the aim move in clockwise
direction.

To help this tutorial I made an ugly representation of the ball below:

Ball Legend:

Face:

   - - -       FOLLOW
 - - - - -     FOLLOW
- - - - - - -   FOLLOW
- - - o - - -   LEFT - CENTER - RIGHT
- - - - - - -   DRAW
 - - - - -     DRAW
   - - -       DRAW

Top-view:

  -      MASSE3
-  -  -   MASSE2
- o -    MASSE1

Legend:
o  - Initial position / Final position
-  - Possible directions

Also, to help the orientation, I'm considering directional buttons as up,
down, left and right and taps to that directions:

[number]U = Taps to up
[number]D = Taps to down
[number]L = Taps to left
[number]R = Taps to right
Straight = no taps required

We can also consider press one direction button until it stay fixed in your
"cardinal position"

Legend:
AU = All Up (a straight line in up direction)
AD = All Down (a straight line in down direction)
AL = All Left (a straight line in left direction)
AR = All Right (a straight line in right direction)

So 3R means 3 taps in right directional button and AU means hold up button
until the aim stop to move.

Diagonals will be ignored for sanity reasons.

IV - Trick Game Solutions

The order of the solutions is consider the occidental reading direction: left
to right, and up to down directions.
The text line will hint the directional taps and the intensity of shoot. Tip:

V - FAQs
________

Questions that nobody asked me, answered by myself.

Q: What about the nude girl ? She exists ?
A: No ! This game don't have any type of explicit content. By the way, Data East
released two arcade machines with nudity called Pocket gal and Pocket gal
deluxe, based on original Side pocket Arcade. It probably made the fame of this
game have nude girls.

Q: This game have an ending ?
A: Yes. If you beat the 1P pocket game you'll see a simple, but beautiful ending
images, with the staff credits and the California Lemonade song.

Q: What happens when I solve all tricks in trick game ?
A: You'll see the "woman puzzle" be solved, because women are like puzzles...

Q: Do I can use effect shots in pocket game ?
A: For sure ! And it's even recommended for hit directions that a normal shot
can't.

Q: This game have another challenges than trick games. Do you plan cover it?
A: Yes. In fact I can beat all of them, but, due the random way it plays I need
another approach to write'em.

Q: Why player one avatar is Tom Cruise ?
A: As mentioned by one Gamefaq board, the characters and Side Pocket itself, are
(not so) loosely based on the movie “The color of money” released in 1986 and
starred by Tom Cruise and Paul Newman.
Paul Newman wins the Oscar by your performance in this movie, and this movie
also inspired John Romero to give the name Doom to your famous FPS game… Yeah !

Q: Is Genesis version older than SNES version ?
A: Yes. Genesis version was released in 1992, and the SNES version in 1993.
