This Gameboy game is one of the best simply because it immerses you in the
life of Ranma. One part RPG, one part fighting game, here you guide Ranma
around in side-scrolling fashion as he wanders around the house, town, and
school talking to people and getting into fights. Somewhat like a very
simplistic version of Shenmue. This game was released on July 17, 1992.

INTRODUCTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The game begins with Ranma and Akane talking about a letter from the
Jusenkyo Guide. We're introduced to some of the other characters who
appear in this game: Colonge, Shampoo, Mousse, Genma, and Ryoga.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You start in the Tendo Dojo. You can talk to Akane, Kasumi, or Nabiki
before you leave. Go left and you'll be outside the dojo where you can
talk to Genma, who's in his panda form. Behind him is a locked door;
keep that in mind for later. Keep left, and you'll see the pond. Fall
in, and Ranma will change into his girl form. Oops! Go right instead,
and enter the door to the training hall, where you can talk to Soun, or
you can leave the Dojo.

Once you're outside, go right - not far from the Dojo is Dr. Tofu's
office. Keep right, and you'll leave the Dojo for the Map Screen. There
are nine locations on the map; for now, there's only three places you
can go. From the Tendo Dojo, you'll only be able to go to either Furinkan
HS, the Nekohanten, or Ucchan's. Start at the Nekohanten first, and talk
to Colonge and Shampoo. Then head for Ucchan's and talk to Ukyo. Go to
Furinkan HS, and you'll meet up with Kuno. One of two things will happen
here. If you're Ranma-chan, Ranma will punch Kuno into the air after
Kuno's done with his usual "Oh, Pig-Tailed Girl!" antics. If you're Ranma,
however, you'll have your first battle in the game. Kuno dosen't do much
during this fight except jump around and attack you with his wooden sword.
Just punch and kick away at him, and he'll go down quickly. If you're still
Ranma-chan; just head over to Nekohanten, and Shampoo will have a kettle of
hot water for you. If you're not, head back to the Tendo Dojo, and take a dip
in the pond before coming back to Nekohanten. Anyway, once you have the kettle,
go back to the Dojo, and use it on Genma; he'll turn back into his human form,
and Ranma and Genma will have an argument. Go inside the house and talk to
Akane; she'll ask you about P-Chan (a.k.a Ryoga).

Leave the Dojo for the Map Screen, and now you can go to Ryoga's house.
Go knock on the door; gee, nobody's home. Head for Ucchan's and talk to Ukyo
about Ryoga. During the conversation, you'll see a scene where Ryoga asks a
horse for directions - he's lost again, as usual! Go back to the Tendo Dojo,
and you'll run into a ninja. Ranma and the ninja exchange words, and then
you'll fight him. For a boss, he's pretty easy to whup! Then the ninja talks
to you again about something that gets Ranma's attention, and that's the end
of Chapter 1.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 2
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You're back in the Tendo Dojo. Ranma and Akane talk about what happened
before. Then you can leave. Remember that locked door from before? It's
open now, and it leads to the bath. If you're Ranma-chan, you can use the
bath to change back to a guy. Try it out! Before you leave for the Map
Screen, talk to Dr. Tofu. Go to the Nekohanten and Ucchan's and talk to
everybody there. Then head over to Ryoga's. You'll see another scene where
Ryoga's on a tropical island somewhere; yup, he's still lost again. Go
home and talk to Akane again. Another letter pops up, this one from Kuno.
Now you can go to Kuno's house. Talk to him and he'll let you in.

Once you're inside, you have to make your way through a maze of platforms
and a LOT of disappearing blocks (Hmm, somebody's been playing the Megaman
games!) Be careful not to fall through any pits, or you'll end up having
to climb your way back up again! Just keep going right all the way, and
you'll be fine. At the end of the maze's final stretch (where you see the
rose motif with Kodachi's name beside it) there'll be two doors; go through
the right door, and you'll be in Kodachi's room.

Talk to Kodachi. Ranma starts chowing down on the food she's prepared
(careful Ranma, that food might be drugged!). An angry Akane shows up (Uh
oh!), and they argue. Ranma continues to talk to Kodachi and at some point
he's turned into Ranma-chan! Now you'll have to fight Kodachi! She'll leap
around the room and attack with her clubs. Watch out for her "Black Rose
Whirlwind" attack, you won't be able to move when she does it! Defeat her,
and you get a scroll. Take the scroll to Dr. Tofu's. Kasumi's there. (OH NO!)
Tofu accidentally ends up destroying the scroll, which makes Ranma upset. Go
home and talk to Akane, then talk to Soun. Soun does his classic "big angry
head" thing - he's really mad! Talk to Akane again, and then head for Dr.
Tofu's. Talk to Akane and Kasumi, then talk to Tofu. Tofu snaps out of his
goofy state whenever Kasumi's around and tells you some more about the scroll
you gave him earlier. Chapter 2 ends.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 3 starts as Ranma and Akane talk about the Jusenkyo Guide's letter.
Akane asks you about P-Chan again. Soon as you leave the Tendo girls, Genma
talks to you.He and Ranma argue, at which point Ranma ends the conversation
with a foot in Genma's face. Talk to Soun; he seems upset about something (No
"big angry head" thing this time though - whew! ). Talk to Genma; apparantely
he's still sore from before. Head for Dr. Tofu's, talk to him, then check out
the Map Screen. Go to the Nekohanten, talk to Colonge, then Shampoo. If you're
Ranma-chan, Shampoo won't be thrilled to see you. An any rate, you'll have to
fight her; watch out when she swings those bonbori - you'll take a lot of
damage. If you lose, Akane shows up, argues with you, then you're back at the
Tendo's. Defeat Shampoo, then go to Ucchan's and talk to Ukyo. Check your map,
and you should be able to go the area in the upper left corner - that's the
Circus. If you go there now, Ranma will make a comment about nobody being
around - so check back later.

Head over to Ryoga's house, and you'll run into Mousse. Yep, you guessed it
-  another fight. If Mousse jumps high into the air, he'll dive down on you
with his Takazume-Ken (Hawk's Talon Fist) attack - Just move out of the way.
Other than that, he's fairly easy to beat. After that, go back to the
Nekohanten, talk to Cologne and Shampoo, then go home. Head out to the pond,
and lo and behold there's Ryoga (looks like he finally made it to Akane's)!
Talk to him, Ranma will tease him about P-Chan, then you'll fight - another
easy battle. After you beat him, Ranma dunks Ryoga into the pond, turning him
into P-Chan and ending chapter 3.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ranma will give P-Chan to Akane. Akane's happy to see her little pet piggy
again. The ninja boss from chapter 1 returns and taunts Ranma, then leaves.
Talk to Genma before you go, then go see Dr. Tofu. Drop by Ucchan's, talk to
Ukyou, then go to Furinkan HS.

Back when you fought Kuno in chapter 1, there was a locked door - It's open
now, and you can go inside the school. As soon as you're inside (cool music
in the background, by the way), you'll meet up with Principal Kuno, who'll talk
to you. Behind him is the entrance to his office. Go inside, take the door on
the right, then take the door on the left. From there, take the door on the
right, go right, and you'll face the ninja boss again.

This time he splits into two small ninjas who jump around and toss throwing
stars at you. Use your low kicks to beat them. Then you fight him again -
geez, this guy's easy to beat! He and Ranma will talk afterwards, then Cologne
shows up. Go home, talk to everyone there, then go see Dr. Tofu. Go back home,
check out the pond. Ranma uses a shovel to dig up something under the house,
and
finds a bottle. Genma shows up and talks to you about what's in it. Take it to
Dr. Tofu and show it to him. As soon as you leave his clinic, you'll run into
Happosai, who attacks with his pipe and throws Happou Daikarin (Happo Fire
Bursts) at you. You can fight him, but unfortunately the old pervert hits you
with the weakness moxibustion, thus ending chapter 4.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER 5
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You're at Dr. Tofu's with Akane. The doctor examines Ranma and confirms
what happened. Now you have to track down Happosai and force him to give
you the cure!

Stop by the Nekohanten and talk to Shampoo. Hmm... Cologne's not there. Go
to the circus and on your way there, you'll meet up with the old ghoul. Talk
to her, then go back and see Dr. Tofu and Akane. Leave Dr. Tofu's clinic. In
a repeat of chapter 4 Happosai will be outside waiting for you. Ranma exchanges
words with the old pervert and the fight is on! Unfotunately, since Ranma's
still
weak from the weakness moxibustion, your attacks will have no effect on him at
this point. Lose, then Akane shows up, and it's back to Dr. Tofu's.

Go home and talk to Soun (who's in his "big angry head" mode) and Genma.
Neither
of them are happy with what the old freak's done. Strangely enough, Kodachi's
here. What does the Black Rose want? Anyway, talk to her, and then she'll
leave.

Go back to the circus, talk to Cologne, then go back to the Kunos.  Make your
way through the maze of platforms and disappearing blocks AGAIN. Once you get
to the maze's final stretch (where you see the rose motif with Kodachi's name
beside it), THIS time you'll do something different. You'll notice (if you
haven't seen it before the first time you were here!) the aforementioned rose
motif with Kodachi's name shows up three times in this section; the second time
you see this there is a door to the left of it. Above that is a ledge; fall off
of this and you'll land right in front of Happosai! What's he doing around the
Kunos' anyway? Try talking to him, and he will reveal that he has the scroll
showing the location of the weakness moxibustion point. Obviously, Ranma will
want it so he can be cured; Happy dares you to take it from him. You're done
here,
so leave Kuno Mansion, go back to the circus to talk to Colonge again, then
head
for Ucchan's and talk to Ukyo.

After you do this, check the map and you should now be able to go to the
area in the upper right corner - the Valley of Moxibustion. A cutscene will
play as Genma uses the heated (and VERY heavy) rocks there to try to restore
Ranma's strength; it doesn't work though. Then Cologne shows up, and offers
to teach Ranma a technique that he can use even in his weakened state: the
Hiryu Shoten Ha (Heaven Blast of the the Dragon). Ryoga appears after this, and
after talking with Ranma for a little bit he gets upset. Cologne uses this
opportunity for Ranma to learn the Hiryu Shoten Ha. Yep, you guessed it, you've
got to fight Ryoga now. The fight seems easy at first, since he's just jumping
around. Watch out when he start to swing his umbrella around, though, and avoid
the bandanas he tosses. You'll fight him three times; on the third time try
pressing the SELECT button when your health bar is down to one heart, and
Ranma will unleash the Hiryu Shoten Ha!

After you're done, talk to Genma and Colonge, then leave. Go home and talk to
Kasumi and Nabiki. Once you do that, leave and check your map. Now you can go
to
the Public Bath-House. I'd recommed taking a dip in the pool out back (to turn
Ranma into a girl) before going there; because the old attendant there won't
let
you into the women's baths otherwise. Go inside and you'll meet up with Akane.
After the two of you argue a little bit, you'll be inside the baths proper...
and
here's Happy!

Happosai's attack pattern is the same as before; just keep fighting till you're
down to one heart of energy, then use the Hiryu Shoten Ha! Enjoy the ending.
You'll
see a cool little group photo of Ranma and the gang after the credits roll.
