Power Racer is a racing game which takes obvious game elements from Pac-Man.
It is addictive in its own way, since you drive a small car around a track
collecting pellets and avoiding contact with the opponent's car. There are
items you can collect along the way, but there are also hazards and obstacles
designed to mess with your progress. There are only two game modes, one on a
regular course with no items (sort of like a survival mode), and a special
mode where there are items and obstacles to face. You can also play in the
special mode against a second human player. It can be fun, albeit tough to
put down, so give it a try!

==========
Game Modes
==========
After you press Start at the title screen, there are two game modes you can
choose to play.
Normal: Race on the regular course with no items or hazards in the way.
Choose the difficulty setting before you begin. Later
difficulties place two enemy cars on the track with you.
Special: Race against the computer or a second human player on a variety
of course layouts and difficulty settings. Choose Level 1-3 (the
difficulty/speed), then Stage 0-9 from there to proceed. On the
course, there will be various hazards (detailed below) and items
for you to collect and use. Later difficulties (Round 5 onward)
place two enemy cars on the track with you.
================
General Gameplay
================
This game takes place on a square track with four lanes. There are open areas
at each of the four sides, where you can move to switch lanes for the next
segment if you want. Along the lanes are pellets/dots, worth 100 points each.
You must collect all of them to clear the current level. If you lose a life
(done by crashing into the opponent's car), you must start the level again
from scratch.
You generally have an enemy car traveling on the track as well, usually in
the opposite direction you are moving. That car will speed up as you collect
more pellets, but you can see where they are so you can plan your movements
accordingly. Luckily, there is no time limit which really helps a lot. If you
hit the other car, you will lose a life. You can earn extra lives for every
30000 points accumulated.

Special Mode
============
NOTE: If you touch an oil slick, you will spin out for a moment. This can be
useful in slowing down just enough to avoid a speedy opponent, or vice
versa.
Stages
------
Round 0: This is your standard four-lane course. The only hazards are the oil
slicks in the north and south open areas.
Round 1: At the north and south ends, there are new pieces of slanted walls
that move up and down periodically. This is meant to block access to
certain lanes at those intersections.
Round 2: At the west and east ends, there are conveyor belts moving towards
the center region. If you move across them, you will move inward
unless you speed up and hold the opposite direction to continue on
the same track. These belts also make it possible to go from the
outer lane to the innermost lane at those intersections.
Round 3: At the west and east ends, there are new pieces of slanted walls
that move left and right periodically. This is meant to block access
to certain lanes at those intersections.
Round 4: At the west and east ends, there are new pieces of wall that block
access to certain lanes depending on where you are approaching. The
track can either go straight or curve diagonally to alter your path.
Also, at the north and south ends, there are now two oil slicks.
Round 5: At the north and south ends, there are new pieces of wall that
block access to certain lanes depending on where you are
approaching. The track can either go straight or curve diagonally to
alter your path. On the west side, there are two oil slicks. On the
east side, there is one oil slick and a small conveyor belt moving
away from the center. In addition, there are now two enemy cars.
Round 6: At the east end only, there is a new piece of wall that blocks
access to certain lanes depending on where you are approaching. The
track can either go straight or curve diagonally to alter your path.
In the north and west areas, there are oil slicks in the middle. At
the south end, there are two conveyor belts moving toward each other
in an attempt to pull you toward the interior lanes.
Round 7: At the north and south ends, there are new pieces of wall that
block access to certain lanes depending on where you are
approaching. At the west and east ends, there are conveyor belts
that move toward the center area, but with oil slicks at the end.
Round 8: On all four sides, there are conveyor belts and oil slicks. The west
and east belts move outward and the other two move inward. The oil
slicks are at the start of each conveyor belt.
Round 9: At the north and south ends, there are new pieces of wall that
block access to certain lanes depending on where you are
approaching. The difference this time is that the north end has two
of those walls. At the west end, there are two oil slicks in the
second lane from the outer end, and conveyor belts on both sides
leading toward the slicks. On the east end, there is a regular
conveyor moving toward the center area.
Items
-----
NOTE: Items will randomly appear along the track as you play each round. They
only stay visible for a few moments, so you must be quick to grab them.
You can see which item(s) you have by looking in the center box.
Bomb: The icon is a small, black bomb. Use it and an explosion will occur,
which can cause a nearby opponent to spin out.
Clear: The icon is of the letter C. Get this rare item and you will instantly
complete the round!
Extra Car: The icon is a black ball in a box of sorts. A second car will
follow you around the course, effectively giving you an extra
life.
Shield: The icon appears to be a small version of your car. A forcefield will
surround your vehicle for a while, preventing damage to yourself
while spinning out your opponent upon impact.
Slow Down: The icon is an arrow pointing downward. It slows down the opponent
for a limited time.
U-Turn: The icon is of an upside-down U with an arrow at the end. This will
cause you and your opponent to turn around and move in the other
direction around the track.
