The Japanese version of Hatris, made by BPS, is a bit different than the US
version. It is a much simpler game with no real differentiation between
stages, aside from the general pace and difficulty. The concept is simple
noentheless: stack five of the same hats to clear them from the playing
field, and make 25 stacks to complete a given stage. If you played Tetris, it
will be a very familiar concept to you, and a fun one at that. The later
stages are tough, but the game DOES end after beating the final stage/shop.
Either way, I would suggest checking this out for a quick and fun experience
to pass the time.

Mode Selection
==============

When you start the game, you will be able to choose from a few different
options. You can choose a Stage (0-9), which determines the overall
difficulty and pace of the game. Also, not all hat types appear in the lower
stages (for instance, in Stage 0 of Shop 0, only the four smaller hat types
will appear to match), but in the higher ones, all six hats may appear. You
can then choose the Shop level (0-5), where the higher shop level determines
how many hats are already on the playing field at the start. Finally, you can
choose to turn the game's music on or off. The game will begin once you
select your music setting.

========
Gameplay
========

Hatris, as you would guess by its name, is a play off the original Tetris
game. In this version, there are hats falling from the open area above, and
you must stack five of the same hat in order to clear them from play.
Regardless of the stage/shop level, you have to make (or sell, as the game
calls it) 25 stacks of hats to complete the stage. When you complete Stage 9
at a Shop, you will view a quick intermission before going to the next Shop.
If you complete Stage 9 of Shop 5, you will view the ending.

It may seem easy to stack hats, but you must not let your stacks get too
high! If any stack passes the white line at the top, you lose. In the top-
right corner, you will see what hats are going to fall into the playing area
next. The score, as well as the current Shop/Stage settings, are on the right
side of the screen.

There are six columns in the playing field, and the hats come down two at a
time. You can press A to switch them, and the Control Pad to move them over
different columns. If one hat lands on a taller stack first, you can move the
second hat until it lands, not necessarily in the column immediately adjacent
to the first one. If you press Down, the hats will instantly land on the
stacks below. You can gain up to 5 extra points, depending on how quickly you
place the hats on the stacks.

As for actual strategy in this game, obviously the key is to pair the same
types of hats together as much as possible. You CAN stack different hats atop
each other if you have no other space, but it requires five of the same hat
in order to clear them. A good approach may be to place larger hats on the
sides, so they don't interfere too much with new hats falling from above.
Sometimes you will have to abandon a stack in progress, in favor of clearing
an adjacent stack or using some much needed empty space. You have the most
options when there are very few hats in play, but you need to work fast in
the later stages to have a chance at success. Have patience and you will
succeed!
