II. Introduction
----------------
While playing this game a few years ago I encountered this bug. Out of
curiosity I made a few tests and got it working in my favor. A few
months ago I started playing this game again, so I decided to search
for information of the bug on the net. I read a couple of rumors but
no reliable information. That's why I've decided to make this FAQ.

III. Trashcan Bug
-----------------
- What's a bug?
dictionary.com says: A defect in the code or routine of a program.
- What does the trashcan bug do?
Double-clicking on the trashcan during some parts of the game causes
some strange effects. The # of MAGI you have determines the effect
you will get. After using the trashcan bug for a while all your
Power MAGI will disappear and your MAGI count will be raised to 99.
That's the real problem, since the next MAGI you pick will drop your
MAGI count to zero. You need a certain # of MAGI to open most doors
in the Pillars of Sky, so you could get stuck in a world forever.
The only solution then is to start all over or get a GameShark and
change your # of MAGI.
I don't know exactly what determines the # of times you can use the
trashcan, but I do know that it is a fixed # and it increases as
your # of MAGI increases. That rules out the possibility of it being
determined by the # of saves.
Here's a table of the effects I've found:

* NOTE: The # of uses is how many times it takes for the bug to screw
your MAGI count.
- So, what do I do with it?
Unless you're in a real need for healing, the only part where you'll
want to mess with the bug is when you have 67 and 68 MAGI (before
and after picking up the single MAGI in the Nasty Dungeon). At that
point you can use the trashcan to raise the Strength and Agility of
any Human and Mutant in your party (3 points each use). You can
start raising Strength, pick up the MAGI before the 72 uses are
over, and start raising Agility. The total # of uses will not exceed
72 no matter what combination of Strength and Agility uses you
choose, so use them wisely. AND SAVE BEFORE DOING IT.
If you use all uses to raise your Strength, do not take the MAGI in
the Nasty Dungeon, or you will be stuck there.
Don't worry about screwing your MAGI count by using all the uses you
have when you're raising Agility. The Pillar of Sky door that exits
Valhalla doesn't need a certain # of MAGI (i.e. you will not be
stuck if you mess with the bug in the Nasty Dungeon, and an event
that happens after Valhalla will fix your MAGI count).

On this section I include some of the feedback I've received. Since I
don't have the free time I used to have I didn't verify if the
information I received was accurate. However it seems worthwhile to
check.

Hello,
I've read your FAQ on the trashcan bug, on gamefaqs.com and it
seems like you dont know the reason behind the number of use of the
trashcan? Well, just between you and me, if you manage to get 72 uses
of it, you got lucky because you can't use it more than that. The
secret behind the secret is all in the MAGI you equip! Thats all!
Equip different sets of MAGI to see how many times you can use the
trashcan. To get 72 uses of it, you have to have equipped the PRISM
and the POWER MAGI. The other two I can't guaranty it but I think its
the AEGIS and the SPEED. Try it by yourself. If you equip other MAGI,
you might end up with only 8 or 24 uses of the trashcan. It doesn't
matter if you take Power or Speed potions, altogether you'll have only
8, 24, 40, 56, or 72 (all are multiple of 8) uses. The POWER MAGI will
dissapear for a moment but if you close, and reopen your MAGI
menu, you'll have regain 5 POWER MAGI. My nickname on gamefaq is
"danysp".
