Version History
---------------
Version 0.95 - Date: October 12, 2002 - FAQ Size: 11KB
It's the first version of my FAQ! I've completed literally everything, except
I'm not sure if I've covered every item, so I'm not saying that the FAQ is
complete yet.
Version 1.00 - Date: October 14, 2002 - FAQ Size: 13KB
I've added some ASCII Art, as you can see. I've also added another item to the
items list. And I changed a mistake I made with the copyright stuff.
Version 1.05 - Date: October 15, 2002 - FAQ Size: 14KB
Current FAQ Size: 14KB
Well, that's it! This FAQ is complete. I added one more item in this version of
the FAQ.
Version 1.10 (Final) - Date: January 12, 2006 - FAQ Size: 10KB
Minor formatting changes were made to make this guide similar to the other ones
I have up on the site.
Introduction
------------
Hello, and welcome to my In-Depth Items FAQ! This FAQ is designed to cover
everything about the items in Donkey Kong Land. If you need to know anything
about the items, it's here. The game, Donkey Kong Land, which originally came
out for the first Game Boy, can be played on any Game Boy now. It also looks
better on Game Boy Advance or even Color, as with the old black and white
version it was hard to see DK or Diddy Kong. So, now that you know what I'm
talking about, let's move on to the main point of the FAQ - to cover the items.

* Section 2 - The Items *
*************************
There are many items in Donkey Kong Land, and in this section you will
find out about all of them. So here they are...
DK Barrel
=========
If you don't have either Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong with you, look for a barrel
with a DK symbol on it. Break it open and you'll find your missing partner
inside.
Barrel
======
Barrels will roll across the ground, and the first enemy it touches will be
gone. But so will the barrel. You can also throw it directly at an enemy.
Steel Barrel
============
The Steel Barrel is the best of them all. Throw one on the ground and it will
keep rolling and rolling until it hits a wall and breaks. It will knock any
enemy in its path, and as many enemies that get in the way. However, you have
to stay within viewing range so that the enemies will be killed.
Manual Barrel
=============
When you jump into one of these, it will either stay where it is, spin around,
or move around. Or it can do both spin and move. Press A at the right time to
be blasted out of it in the direction it's pointed.
Automatic Barrel
================
As you can probably tell by now the main item in the game is a barrel...
anyways, when you jump into this, you will automatically be shot in the
direction the game has set it to be.
Continue Barrel
===============
If you touch one of these, you will continue from that point instead of the
beginning of the level.
Burning Barrel
==============
On some maps you will find that the paths are blocked by bricks. These will be
found at the end of certain level so that when you go back to the map, you can
burn away the bricks. It can only be used once.
TNT Barrel
==========
ANOTHER BARREL? That's EIGHT now! Anyways, when you pick up this barrel, you
can throw it at an enemy, and it'll explode in their faces. You can also pick
it up then put it down, and it'll automatically explode on the ground after
about 3 seconds. The explosions cannot harm you.
Kong Tokens
===========
If you get one of these, the game will keep track of how many you have. Then,
if you enter a certain bonus level, you'll be able to try and grab them for
extra lives. They are like a replacement for balloons from Donkey Kong Country,
except balloons are still here.
Balloons
========
If you get a balloon, you will automatically get an extra life. However, they
float away quickly, so grab them fast!
Bananas
=======
A game with monkeys but no bananas? That's impossible. In Donkey Kong Land,
collect 100 of these and you'll earn an extra life.
Banana Bunches
==============
When you get one of these, you are basically just getting 10 bananas. They are
hard to come by, but when you get them, it'll be worth it.
Stable Tires
============
These things are tires that are stuck into the ground, which you can use to
bounce and jump higher than normal. I personally think these are better than
the other type of tire. Read the next tire description to find out why.
Moving Tires
============
With this type of tire, you can move it anywhere you want, and still bounce the
same. However, I think that the other type of tire is better, as if you don't
land right in the middle of this tire when you're landing, it'll move. With the
other one, you can hit the sides or the middle without it moving in any way at
all.
Tornado Tires
=============
These types of tires are shaped ike tornadoes, and once you bounce on one, you
can't get off until it falls in a hole. You'll just keep repeatedy bouncing on
that thing until it falls in a hole.
Ropes
=====
These things are not picked up off the ground or anything, but they are already
hanging from somewhere. When you grab hold of a rope, you can hold onto it for
an unlimited period of time without falling.
Swinging Ropes
==============
These things are not picked up off the ground or anything, but they are already
hanging from somewhere. You'll usually find these in the jungle. When you grab
hold of one, you'll swing back and forth, and you can hang on for an unlimited
period of time without falling.
Kong Letters
============
These are very important. If you want to be able to save your game, you must
get all of them. The letters are scattered throughout every stage, and some can
be found in bonus stages. These letters are: K O N G. Notice that they spell
KONG.
Ending Warps
============
You will find these at the end of every level. Jump into them and you will
complete the stage.

The link itself says it all, my ASCII art for the first page came from here.
It doesn't just come in one font, either - there are many other types as well,
I just chose to use a rather simple one.

Without him, this FAQ wouldn't exist in the first place. He has the best video
game reference site I've ever found in GameFAQs, and I hope he continues with
it for years to come. I can't thank him enough.
**You**
Why you? Because as the reader, you provide me with a reason to write. What
use would this guide be without people to read it? Thank you.
Contact
-------
Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Corrections? If you have anything to say, you
can email me at bowser194(at)gmail(dot)com. You can also find me on the boards,
but that isn't the best way of talking with me.
I'm generous enough to give you the privilege of contacting me, so please do
not abuse this privilege. When emailing me, please put Donkey Kong Land
somewhere in the title, just so I have an idea of what the email has to do
with, and so I don't think it's spam. Also make sure the email actually has
something to with the In-Depth FAQ itself. This isn't a complete walkthrough,
therefore you shouldn't be emailing me about something that has nothing to do
with this FAQ. The odds are that you will receive a response if you followed
the above guidelines.
Do not email me asking for permission to host this guide. If you're not on the
list found in the copyright section, your request will be turned down.
Simple, I hope.
