[HELP]
Crayon Shin-Chan: Ora to Shiro ha Otomodachi Dayo is a platforming game
based off the Crayon Shin-Chan manga, mostly popular in Japan although
translated and published in a couple of other countries. The game is heavily
oriented towards platforming, with only a couple of blow bubbles-based weapons
littered throughout the game's short four levels.
Shin-chan can hop onto the heads of the enemy humans that are
interspersed around each stage, as well as use the bubbles to knock them out. He
can also hop onto hooks and branches, and scale telephone poles and trees.
There are also three mini-games in Crayon Shin-Chan along with a fourth
kind-of mini-game. Although all four mini-games are encountered in the course of
your playthrough, you can also access them from the title screen using the
second option presented to you.
Also of note is a timer in each of the level. For some weird reason, if
you try to collect everything in a level, there simply is not enough time, at
least in Level 2. Fortunately, you are given checkpoints throughout each of the
levels. Timing out will simply throw you back to one of the checkpoints.

Walkthrough

[WALK]
---------
STAGE ONE
---------
Head right from the start following the story scene to grab your first
two Cannisters of the level. Hop onto the telephone pole and climb up near the
top, then jump off to the right to land on the roof of the next household over.
Walk right a bit and keep an eye out on the girl shooting spitballs from the
window.
Wait until she shoots out a diagonal spitball, then jump up onto the
windowsill, then hop again onto her head to take her out. Leap up to the very
top of the roof for a Bubble Bottle and then fall down to your right to get two
more Cannisters.
Jump onto the telephone pole and grab onto it, then move down. Wait for
the boy on the pogo stick to go by before heading past him, and grab the next
pair of Cannisters. Walk right past the next household and scale the telephone
tower here for some height to be able to jump off to the right and claim another
pair of cannisters.
Head right from here to lure a boy on a pogo-stick back left, and hop
onto the garbage cans. You can take out the pogo-stick boy when he comes by, or
hop onto the stone pillar that anchors the fence to your right, or alternatively
use your Bubbles against him. In any case, once you get by the pogo-boy through
either method, continue walking until you get to the door and you will get to
take part in your first mini-game, Whack a Mole.
After the mini-game, head right again and take the first telephone pole
you wander upon. Hop off at the first windowsill to be able to grab another
Bubble Bottle, and use your bubbles to take out the girl from afar. Afterwards,
move back onto the telephone tower and hop off onto the roof of the household
for a long Cannister.
Move right onto the next telephone pole. Lower yourself slowly. If you
see a pogo-boy bouncing around, press the A button to release yourself from the
telephone pole and land on his head as he wanders by, and grab another Cannister
walking right. If you have collected every Cannister available by now, you
should have found 10, which will give Shin-chan an extra life. Continue right
from here and you will come to a shop area. Press the Up button to enter and you
shall have a conversation with a shopkeeper.
Following the conversation scene, head right, hopping onto a garbage can
to be able to leap onto another boy's cranium. Continue moving and enter a
second shop area using the Up button. Following the conversation, head back
outside, and go back left and up the telephone pole. At the top, leap onto the
rooftop of the second shop for a Cannister, then return back down the pole to
the right to claim two more Cannisters still.
Take the telephone pole to the right again and hop onto the garage to
the right for another Cannister, then land down to the right on a set of vending
machines for two more Cannisters.
Drop down from the vending machines and head right to a third storefront
and press the Up button in front of it for another conversation. Once finished,
head right to wrap up the level.
---------
STAGE TWO
---------
Move right from the bus and hop onto the first boy's head about halfway
across the bridge. Continue on and hop up the short cliff ledges and onto the
wooden platforms hanging into the air. Ignore what is a Life-Up item to the left
for now, as you cannot currently access it.
Instead, move right across a few more platforms and hop right onto the
tree, pressing Up to grab on and then scale much like with telephone poles.
Climb up to the top and press the A button plus the Left directional button (you
do not need to make use of the Up button in this case) to grab onto the hook
when it comes by. Let it carry you left and jump off for the Life-Up, then get
back onto the hook and let it carry you back to the tree.
From the tree again, head down and take one of the two lines to go
right, grabbing two of four containers on these ziplines when going right. Take
out the boy at the right side when you get onto solid ground, then crawl through
the bottom passage (press the Down button to crouch and then Right to crawl) for
a single cannister. Use the short tree pole to get to the higher passage for two
more cannisters.
Return to the tree pole, then go left on the one of the two lines you
did not previously take. Once you get back to the left side, scale up again and
hop onto the wooden platform to your right. Make your way across a bunch of
trees hanging from the roof above - when so doing, stay near the bottom of each
tree before jumping over, or else you will hit the stone ceiling and then fall
directly down, costing yourself a life.
At the right end, grab onto the hook connected to the line and let it
pull you over. Crawl through the hole at the end. Look at the spring on the
ceiling, and jump and fall so you are slightly to the left of this spring so
that you can land on another spring down below.
Jump and bounce on the spring and press A for some bounce. Repeat this
again on your next bounce and press the Right button slightly prior to landing
so you already have forward momentum. Otherwise, you will strike the top spring
and be forced back down (but you should safely land on the nearby wooden
platform so as to repeat this).
When you make it to the top ledge, drop off to the right and go forward
to confront the boy for a conversation. You will then be made to play a game of
Stop-Go.
Following the game of Stop-Go, go right and jump, and press the A button
to release yourself from the tree branch if you have to. DO NOT take the top
passage, because that is pretty much an impassable path due to the height of the
adult enemy and no spot to give yourself extra height for a jump.
Instead, proceed right into the underground area. LIGHTLY tap the A
button as you go right to jump without impacting the spikes, collecting a couple
of Cannisters in the process. If you press the A button too hard/long, you will
hit the spikes on the ceiling. This does not lose you a life, but it will waste
a few seconds as Shin-chan recovers.
When you make it to the end of the tunnel, you should see three short
wooden platforms in the air. The lowest one is stable, but the higher two will
fall down as soon as you touch foot on them. However, Shin also auto-hops once
you land on them, so do not bother pressing the A button.
Hop onto the first one, then once you move to the right-most of the
three, immediately veer hard to the left to be able to clear the cliff face.
Head left and knock out the boy. Dodge the adult and climb up the ledges for the
Bubble Gun.
Return right and take the three small wooden platforms right. The first
long platform will not fall down, but the second one will, while the top of the
two right long platforms will not. Hop onto the last short platform and let it
fall down with Shin-chan on it, and hop onto the spring near the bottom of the
screen.
Bounce three times total this time around on the spring instead of
twice. Once you know for certain you made the bounce correctly on your third
spring, immediately push right to try to grab all four Cannisters that await
you. Once you land, continue on down and right, and you will encounter a boy who
you have to hit twice by landing on his head or using the Bubble Gun to defeat.
Do not bother with the tree branches, as they shall lead you to dead
ends. Instead, proceed along right through the cave until you come to a tree
with several wooden platforms on either side and two boys sliding up and down.
Wait until the first boy comes down and jump onto his head to take him out.
Slowly climb your way up to the third platform up on the left side (wait for the
second boy to be moving up before moving each time) and take out the second boy.
Continue your climb up and hop off to the right at the end to fall down
and conclude the level with another conversation. You shall then move on to
Stage Three.
-----------
STAGE THREE
-----------
You will notice a white dog following Shin-chan. To the best of this
author's knowledge, nothing will cause the dog to go away (which is just as
well, as you need the dog for the best ending). For the most part, just ignore
it.
Move right at the start and hop onto the first tree you come across. Go
up and jump onto a platform to the right for a Bubble Bottle, possibly taking
out a boy on a pogo stick in the process. Continue walking right after you drop
down. When you see two Cannisters hanging in the air, jump onto the platform to
the right of the cannisters and then left onto the platform housing them.
Drop down and take out another boy as you move right. Jump onto a tree
branch and climb up to retrieve two more Cannisters, then move across a bridge
to get two more Cannisters, and take out a second boy on a pogo stick. After one
last boy wandering around, continue right to a standing boy to take part in the
Cycling mini-game.
Following the Cycling mini-game, you will notice the white dog is
missing. Ignore that as that is supposed to occur, and head right. Hop onto the
first wooden pillar, then leap onto the side of the second one and press Up to
grab hold and scale to the top. Continue right until you get onto solid footing
again.
Move to the wooden platforms hanging in the air. While avoiding taking
fire by the boy shooting bubbles left and right, make your way up and then left
over to where you will find a Life Up. Jump off slightly right from this
platform and press the Up button to latch onto one of the wooden pillars below,
and make your way right over to ground again.
Go up the platforms again on the left side of the boy, then go around
over top of him and onto the roof of the building to your right. Continue along
and hop onto a slide. Take the slide down and jump off at the end and press
right to grab a total of five Cannisters, then continue right for another Life
Up. Walk right and go down, perhaps taking out one final boy, then head right to
enter another conversation. After, Stage Four beckons.
----------
STAGE FOUR
----------
Head right and grab onto the first tree branch for a single cannister.
Continue right until you reach the first building. If you stand directly in
front of the first 'pillar' just to the right of where the building begins and
press the Up button, Shin-chan will hide behind the pillar and evade notice and
attack by the enemy vagrants that pass by.
Use this technique some more until you get to where the telephone pole
is. Take out the boy here, and climb up. Hop off to the left and press Down + A
over the two Cannisters to go down a floor and retrieve the Cannisters.
Return to the pole and hop off right onto the brick wall, then jump up
to the right for a Bubble Gun. Continue right and down for two more Cannisters.
Move on some more to find another telephone pole. Take it up to the top of the
screen and hop off to the right onto a high roof.
Proceed right for two Cannisters, and be prepared to use your Bubble Gun
on another vagrant as he comes by at Shin-chan from the right side of the
screen. Continue on until you see kanji lettering on the bottom-right of your
screen. Drop down here with the Down + A button. Dodge the bubble-shooting boy,
grab the two Cannisters and head right to automatically strike up a conversation
with an adult.
Walk right a lengthy stretch until you get to some steps. Hop onto the
first one and then immediately go back down and wait it out until another boy
comes down. Bonk him on the head and then head up the stairs to get two more
Cannisters.
Continue right and go down some stairs down a vertical shaft. Walk right
from here to take on this game's 'final boss', in the sense that he is slightly
taller than Shin-chan and takes 3 hits instead of 1 or 2. After you knock him
out, head right through the doorway (which will only open after the big boy is
defeated) and past the fences.
Following a conversation, you will be made to play the final mini-game,
Find the White Dog. If you do this successfully, you will get the 'Good' ending,
otherwise you get the 'Normal' ending.

------------
WHACK A MOLE
------------
In Whack A Mole, you have 9 circles spread out in a 3x3 grid. Every so
often, one of three figures will pop up from random holes: these can be
'monsters' (there are a couple of different monsters, but generally non-
humanoid), B-Bags (they have what appears to be a bag over their head with the
letter B on the bag) and the Masked Man (wearing a generic superhero mask).
If you move your cursor around and press the A or B button, you can hit
the three different types of figures, and change your points total. You are
given a total of 60 seconds to rack up a high score.
Monsters - +2 points per hit
B-Bag - +1 point per hit
Mask Man - -10 points per hit
As you lose ten points every time you hit the Masked Man, you obviously
will wish to refrain from hitting him.
You can hit any of the figures as soon as they appear. You do NOT have
to wait for them to come out fully from their hole before striking them. As
there is typically a small second or so of lull time in between figures popping
out from their holes, move your cursor to the centre after each set of figures
has been whacked so you can move your cursor quickly to wherever the monster or
B-Bag shows up next.
-------
STOP-GO
-------
Stop-Go, which many of you may remember also as Red Light-Green Light,
involves one kid standing next to a tree while Shin-Chan and three others are
out on a field. After you press the Start button, the kid at the tree will turn
his head around to face the tree.
When this occurs, immediately tap the A button very quickly to move
forward. Once the kid at the tree finishes his sentence (his dialogue box will
fill out completely when this occurs), stop immediately before he turns around.
Once he turns back to face the tree again, his dialogue box will empty, and you
can resume.
To win, you need to make it to the Goal Line first, though winning is
NOT mandatory during the regular gameplay.
A Note: This may be an emulators-only issue, but repeatedly tapping the
A button seems to not work very well as Shin-chan will fall behind the others.
Using a Turbo-A button works, however.
-------
CYCLING
-------
In the Cycling mini-game, you have four players and four lanes of
traffic. To move your bike forward, you need to tap the A button repeatedly to
accelerate on your bike. Once you do, stay aware of the various obstacle courses
on the course.
The negative obstacles are sand pits, which will slow Shin-chan down,
puddles of water, which will knock him over and waste a few seconds, and holes,
which will also waste a couple of seconds should Shin-chan fall into one.
A positive obstacle are Arrow panels, which will speed you up.
To avoid obstacles (or move into Arrow panels), use the Up and Down
buttons to move along all four lanes of traffic, and/or the B button to
decelerate before you hit something.
A Note: This may be an emulators-only issue, but repeatedly tapping the
A button seems to not work very well as Shin-chan will fall behind the others.
Using a Turbo-A button works, however.
------------------
FIND THE WHITE DOG
------------------
In Find the White Dog, you as Shin-chan must wander around an open field
and holler using the A button to call the White Dog to you. You get four chances
to holler. If you do not find the White Dog in those four chances, you lose the
mini-game.
The author is unsure if the White Dog is fixed in location, but both his
own playthrough and the Nico video linked in the credits show the same location:
the left end of the grassy bush near the upper-left corner of the park area.
