[HOWT]

Cool World is a fairly short platforming with controls that are more to
the sluggish side, and a character whose on-screen icon is pretty small compared
to player avatars from other platformers. The game is based off the Cool World
movie, and consists of five worlds, split up into nine sections.

The first four worlds have two sections each. Jack, the player
character, starts off in the real world, where he must damage Doodle enemies by
firing at them with his ballpoint pen (for this action, you must _tap_ B, NOT
hold the B button). Once a Doodle is damaged, it shall turn into an Ink Blob.
You can either hold the B button to activate a sucking-in action with your pen
to drag in the Ink Blob, or jump on it several times to break the Ink Blob
(sucking it in is far more effective).

In each level, not only must you damage and wipe out the Doodle enemies
(a limited number of which will spawn in each level), you must also collect
items that are hovering in mid-air in each world. If an item is actively
floating and moving around and shaking slightly, it can be picked up, but items
that are static in place and not moving at all cannot be (at the moment) picked
up, though they may trigger later on as active items.

After clearing out one half of a world, you must find a black vortex in
the world to transport yourself to the Cool World. Entering the black vortex can
be a bit wonky - try crouching underneath it and pressing the A button, or
crouching and pressing the B button if it does not activate at first. In the
Cool World, your goal is pretty much the same - eliminate all the Doodles, pick
up items. If all the Doodles are down for the count and there are no items to be
had, return to the Real World.

After you successfully complete both the Real World and Cool World
segment of each stage (there is a time level to each world, though they are
fairly generous with the given time), you will be made to do a second wave, with
slightly expanded versions of each level. At the end of the game, you will take
on a final boss.

[WALK]

World One Wave One (Real)
-------------------------
In this first level you will get several Doodle enemies walking around a
small area about one screen high by two and a half screens wide. They will walk
around clockwise and counterclockwise up ledges and then fall off ledges down to
the ground floor, and new ones will occasionally spawn from weird statues on the
ground.

As Jack, familiarise yourself a bit with the controls, then position
yourself on the ground. When one of the Doodles walks your way, tap the B button
to fire at them, and _only_ tap the B button. If you press and hold the B
button, Jack will initiate a sucking-in action using his pen, but just tapping
will send out a projectile.

Once a Doodle is struck, it will turn into an Ink Blob, shaped like a
black circle. Hold B to use the sucking-in action of the pen to exterminate the
Doodle for good by sucking in the Ink Blob. If you take too long to get around
to using the pen on the Doodle, it will turn into a sort of phantasm enemy that
can float around and chase after Jack specifically.

After some time, the level should be empty of enemies, as they stop
spawning after a set number of enemies. Be sure to travel to the left and right
end of the screen to make sure it has been purged. You must _also_ collect all
the items that are in the stage - these are easy to identify, as they are always
floating in the air.

When finished, head to the centre of the screen where the vortex is to
the Cool World. Press Down while underneath the vortex to crouch, then press the
A button to enter the Cool World.

World One Wave One (Cool)
-------------------------
This area is a house with three levels, and you can travel up and down
the levels via stairs at each end. Be careful, however as the stairs can also
make your sucking-in action a bit tricky: if a staircase is between you and the
Ink Blob it will fall down the stairs instead.

Much like before, move around the house defeating the Ink Blobs, and
pick up items when you spot them. Once all the enemies have been defeated and
items picked up, the wave will end automatically and you will move back to the
outside world.

After completing the first wave, you will have to do a second wave which
repeats the Real and Cool World stages of World One, just slightly expanded.

World Two Wave One (Real)
-------------------------
This is an outdoor area near a school. The Doodle enemies out here are
noticably larger, so you can no longer jump over them if you are walking on the
same level elevation as they are, so you must stand your ground and shoot at
them.

World Two Wave One (Cool)
-------------------------
You will be transported to an indoor area, the inside of the Cool World
watchtower, for the second half of World Two. The watchtower is split up into
sevearl different floors much like the World One Cool World, which you can
traverse through the use of stairs. However, in this area there are multiple
holes in the floor for you to fall through (also making it more difficult to
suck in some Ink Blobs), and a few elevators you can use to quickly hike up a
floor.

After, you will repeat a second wave in World Two.

World Three Wave One (Real)
---------------------------
World Three is a bit like World One again, with a brighter background, a
fairly short screen, and some fairly linear platforms to travel along with only
a bit of sloping. The Real World side takes place in a Comic Book Store.
However, the large enemies in here drastically pick up their speed, so watch out
once you enter this area and anticipate the speed spike.

World Three Wave One (Cool)
---------------------------
Taking place in Craps Alley, which is actually an indoor area, the Cool
World section of this world is considerably easier to keep track of than the
previous Cool areas, mostly because of the brighter background. A divider stops
you from moving around freely on the top floor, and you will have to take stairs
from the middle to access each half. Enemies also spawn fairly quickly, with
each foe moving around at a rapid pace.

Again, once finished the first wave, you will be required to complete a
second wave against the enemies and picking up items.

World Four Wave One (Real)
--------------------------
Taking place in the Ocean Hotel, the start of world four ramps up in
difficulty as the tall enemies that dash around will now be able to fire
projectiles. You can attempt to crouch to dodge while pressing the B button to
fire your shots, but firing while crouching seems to be fairly inconsistent
control-wise.

The level is divided up roughly into three separate elevations, with an
elevator on the far right end of the level. You will also need to use the
supports on the ground to hop up to the second level.

World Four Wave One (Cool)
--------------------------
In Club Slash in the Cool World, your movements around the centre of the
screen will be heavily impeded as there are lots of platforms with short spacing
between them, two long staircases and several short walls, so navigating may be
tricky from time to time.

World Four Wave Two (Real)
--------------------------
Wave Two makes a significant environment shake-up in contrast to Wave
One, as the fighting area narrows, with the ground floor and two higher floors,
with not much ground to cover going either way. You can make life easier and
dodge enemy fire by setting up on either the middle or top level and camping out
on the high end so enemies have to come up to you instead of down to you, and
blast them in the face when they approach before grabbing their Ink Blots.

The Cool World portion is much like the Wave One portion, just a little
bigger and tougher as the usual.

World Five Boss Fight
---------------------
This is the obligatory end game boss battle with a sort of bird-like
enemy. Stick to the top platform to keep the bird floating up in the air. Run
away from it and turn around and jump and shoot at it while in the air. When it
approaches you, run to the trough of the top platform, crouch until the bird
glides over you, then turn around and run opposite it. After some time, however,
the bird will actually loop through the top and reappear on the bottom of the
arena, then continue floating up slowly.

In any case, repeat moving away from it, crouching and firing at it
until it finally goes down and the game ends.

Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at
