[HELP]
Basic Premise
-------------
Chibi Maruko-chan wants to acquire five items from the local store.
However, the total cost of the five items comes to 10350¥, while Maruko starts
the game off with only 30¥ to her name. In order to purchase all 5 items, you
must go around challenging townspeople to one of several games in order to make
money.
Unfortunately, most games really are luck of the draw, with the
exceptions of a slots game that it is mostly possible to get the timing down
for. However, it can be set up easily so that you lose far less money when
losing than what you make when winning.
In the initial house Maruko comes out of, go back inside, and go to the
upper right room. Press A when over top of the piggy bank and she will deposit
everything except for 30¥ in it. If you lose a game and go down to 0¥ on hand,
Maruko will take 30¥ out of it. Maruko can only carry 500¥ at the start, and up
to 1000¥ on-hand when you acquire a Maruko card (see later), so most of the
remainder must be deposited in your piggy bank.
The Menu Screen
---------------
Whenever you wander around the town, you can press A to open up a menu
with three options.
•Challenge (Rock-Paper-Scissors outside)
•Self
•Cards
•Maruko's Status
•Unknown function
•Paper-Rock-Scissors
How to Run Through the Game
---------------------------
It is important to challenge people to best-of-3 Paper-Rock-Scissors. If
you beat somebody in a game of RPS, you get either 1 or 2 points of energy - if
you won 2-1, you get 1 energy point, and 2 energy points if you won 2-0. Maruko
can have up to 10 Energy points at once. Additionally, if you win 2-0, you also
get a Card which you can use.
Energy points are required to actually make a Challenge to somebody.
With a Challenge, you can actually make money, up to 1000¥ in a game, and only
lose potentially 30¥ (or even 10¥) if you lose a game. The winnings can be put
in your piggy bank.
If you run out of money, you need to examine your piggy bank to make a
30¥ withdrawal.
Whenever you enter your house, or you finish a game inside your house,
there is a possibility your mother may come home. If you have any money on-hand,
your mother will take all of it, whether it be 30¥ or 1000¥. It is important to
never fall below 10¥ at any point, because if you have 0¥ and your mother comes
home, you lose the game automatically. This can be extremely heart-breaking as
the game lacks a Save or Continue feature.
A person can only be challenged once, and then he or she cannot be
challenged again until you use a Tama-chan card. When you use the Tama-chan
card, everybody you have challenged will be reset, and you can make a single
challenge to each person again (up until you use the Tama-chan card once more).
Additionally, it is the author's presumption that you can only play Rock-Paper-
Scissors once with each person as well, up until a Tama-chan card is again used.
Only people who are indoors can be Challenged - using the Challenge
function outside will just result in Rock-Paper-Scissors.
Maruko's Grandpa plays only dice, but everyone else seems to have a few
different games they play (and none of them play dice). However, Grandpa is the
big money-giver, handing out 1000¥ if you win, while nobody else gives out more
than 500¥ (and even that is very uncommon).
Cards
-----
If you win a Paper-Rock-Scissor game 2-0, you will get one of 5 random
cards. Your cards inventory can carry up to 4 cards at a time.
Maruko - Increases the amount you can carry up to 1000¥
Mom - Increases your energy by 4 points
Grandpa - Increases your energy by 2 points
Maruo (guy with glasses) - Decreases piggy bank savings by half
Tama-chan - Resets all challenges and Rock-Paper-Scissors
Buying your Items
-----------------
By going south and east from Maruko's House, you can find a mall area.
Entering, you can buy 1 of 5 items from here. You do not need to be carrying
money on-hand - money will also be taken from your piggy bank automatically.
Manga 350¥
Laugh Bag 1000¥
Playing House 2000¥
Music Box 3000¥
French Doll 4000¥
Once you purchase the French Doll, the game is over.
Overall Strategy
----------------
In general, the best person to always be challenging is Grandpa in
Maruko's house. If you lose, you will only lose 30¥, but if you win, you get
1000¥. This match is also luck of the draw with regards to winning. Because
Grandpa also decreases your energy points to 0, you may want to get 10 energy
points, Challenge other people to make money, then challenge Grandpa with 2
energy points left.
You will definitely want to use a Maruko card as soon as you acquire
one so as to increase the size of your personal savings to 1000¥ maximum.
Due to the horrendous effects of the Maruo card which will cut your
piggy bank savings in half as soon as you access it, and the luck of the draw
with getting a Maruo card after winning 2-0 in Paper-Rock-Scissors, you
generally want to try buying each item as soon as you have the money for it
(350¥, 1000¥, 2000¥, 3000¥, 4000¥).
Once you get up to the pricier items (the Music Box and the French
Doll), it may be desirable to start saving up your Cards, specifically getting
perhaps 2 Tama-chan and 2 Mom cards, or 3 Tama-chan and 1 Mom card before
splurging to get as much money as you can before you have to start playing
Rock-Paper-Scissors again (this, of course, assumes you are playing this game on
a real console and do not have the ability to save-scum).

[MINI]
Rock-Paper-Scissors
-------------------
Rock-Paper-Scissors is pretty much as it sounds like, with each game you
play being a best-of-3.
In order, from top to bottom, the options are:
Rock
Scissors
Paper
The throw the other character makes is predetermined, so you can get 2
wins in a row, no losses, if you are playing on an emulator and constantly save
scum. If you win, you get 1 or 2 energy points - if you won 2-1, you get 1
energy point, and 2 energy points if you won 2-0.
Slots
-----
This is the only real game where you have a chance of setting it up to
win yourself. Three slots with character portraits will roll down. By pressing
the A button, you can stop one slot at a time. If you get the character
portraits lined up, you can win the following amounts of money.
Tama-chan - 100g
Kazuhiko - 80g
Big Nose Guy - 60g
Sueo - 40g
Pick Cards
----------
8 cards are laid out in a 2x4 fashion, all upside down. 4 of the cards
are portraits of Maruko-chan, while 4 of the cards are of whoever you are
playing. The instant you select a card that has Maruko underneath it, the game
ends. By selecting 1 or more of your opponent's cards, you can increase your
earnings.
1 card - 2x earnings
2 cards - 3x earnings
3 cards - 4x earnings
4 cards - 5x earnings
The precise amount you get seems to vary for some reason, even with the
same player opponent - this may have something to do with the amount of Energy
points you have?
Dice
----
To the author's knowledge, only Grandpa plays this game. Grandpa will
roll 3 dice first, followed by Maruko. Whoever has the higher sum of dots on
their dice wins the game. If you have an equivalent number of dots, you both
reroll. Often, for some reason a dice will go missing, and so you may only have
two dice or even just one die on either side.
Beat The Card Number
--------------------
In this game, your opponent will draw a card with his or her own
portrait that has a number from 1-8. Maruko, in turn, must select one of 4 cards
that are all upside down that also will have a number from 1-8. You repeat this
5 times, and you get a multiplier depending on the number of times your card's
number is greater than your opponent's number.

Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at
