Description taken from the instruction booklet:

"America's most wanted high speed criminals are on the loose, and it's up to
you to stop them!  Take to the streets in your ultra-lean cruising machine
as you track down and apprehend five of the meanest felons ever to get behind
the wheel.  Put the pedal to the metal, Mr. Driver!  You only have 60 seconds
to find the bad guys.  Once they're in sight, shift into high gear and ram
them off the road!"

                             iii. PLAYER STATUS
=--=-=-==-=-=---===---===-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-==-=====-=-=-=-

During game play, vital information is displayed on the top of the screen.
Pay attention to all of it!

In the upper left corner, your Score is displayed.  Immediately under that is
the current value of your Car Passing Bonus, the points you get for each car
you pass.  Under these is a Damage Meter; this is for the criminal's car, not
your own.  The car you drive is invincible, apparently.

Located in the center of the top of the screen is the number of seconds you
have remaining to catch the criminal.  Remember, you have 60 seconds to catch
up with him, then 60 more seconds to disable his vehicle.

Below the timer is the Gear Shift and the number of Turbo Mode uses you have
left.

In the upper right corner of the screen is your current speed; this has a
maximum of 159 MPH.

Directly below the speedometer is a number representing your distance to the
criminal.  This number begins at 500 and winds down the closer you get.  The
distance is also represented graphically below the number.  This meter has
two dots, one representing your car and the other for the villian's.

                                 iv. SCORING
=--=-=-==-=-=---===---===-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-==-=====-=-=-=-

The score in Chase H.Q. matters only to your pride; it has no in game effect.
That said, you get points for most everything in this game.

Distance Bonus - 1 point for every dotted line passed on the side of the road.

Passing Bonus  - The amount of points you get for passing a car is dynamic
                and cumulative.

                                  First Car  - 200 pts.
                                  Second Car - 400 pts.
                                  Third Car  - 600 pts.
                                  Fourth Car - 800 pts.

As long as you don't crash, you will continue to get 800 pts.
for every car passed.  When you crash, you will start over
                at 200 pts.

Boss Damage    - You get points for ramming the criminal's car.  However, the
amount you get depends on how you hit it and how many credits
                you have remaining.

Level       Rear Hit      Rear Hit      Side Hit       Side Hit
                    w/ 4 credits  < 4 credits   w/ 4 credits   < 4 credits

            1         1000 pts       100 pts      5000 pts       500 pts
            2         2000 pts       200 pts      6000 pts       600 pts
            3         3000 pts       300 pts      7000 pts       700 pts
            4         4000 pts       400 pts      8000 pts       800 pts
            5         5000 pts       500 pts      9000 pts       900 pts

Mission Bonus  - For every round you complete, you get some more points.
If you have 4 credits, you get 2000 pts, otherwise 1000 pts.
You also get 500 pts for every second remaining on the clock.
For beating the game, you get 500,000 bonus points.

                                v. WALKTHROUGH
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-==-=--=-====--=

Chase H.Q. consists of five levels, each with two stages.  In the first part
of the level, you have 60 seconds to catch up to the criminal's car; and then
in the second part, you have 60 seconds to smash it into an unmoving ball
of flames.  Remarkably, the course for the first part of each level is the
same; the only thing that changes is the number of cars you must pass on the
road.

This is the pattern:

                                 [Begin]

                                 Straight
                                 Bank left
                                 Immediate bank right
                                 Immediate bank left
                                 Straight

                                 [Tunnel]
                                 Straight inside the tunnel

                                 [Outside the tunnel]
                                 Straight
                                 Bank Right
                                 Immediate bank left
                                 Immediate bank right
                                 Straight over hills

                  [Left Fork]                       [Right Fork]
                 Levels 1,2,3,5                       Level 4

                  Straight                          Straight
                  Bank left                         Bank left
                  Bank right                        Bank right
                  Bank left                         Bank left
                  Bank right                        Bank right

                                 [Outside the tumbleweeds]
                                 Straight
                                 Bank right
                                 Straight
                                 Bank right
                                 Straight
                                 Bank right

                                    [BOSS!]

Here are the details of how the levels are different.
________________________________________________________
               \Level 1 ----------- Ralph the Car Thief\

You must pass cars only periodically.  Ralph's car takes only 3 hits before
he stops.  Immediately after you hit him, use a turbo; you'll catch up to
him and should finish him off.
________________________________________________________
               \Level 2 -------- Carlos the Jewel Thief\

This is very much like level 1; the cars still only come at you one at a
time.  Avoiding them should be simple enough.  When you catch up to Carlos,
use the same strategy as with Ralph.  After you hit him the first time, use
a turbo to immediately catch up with him again.  After 4 hits, Carlos will
go down.
_________________________________________________________
               \Level 3 ------ Andrew the Industrial Spy\

In this level, the cars begin to come at you more than one at a time, making
dodging them a little bit of an exercise.  Andrew is also substantially
tougher than Carlos; it takes 8 hits to bring him to a stop.
________________________________________________________
               \Level 4 - Antonio the Foreign Terrorist\

In this level, the road will be filled with cars, sometimes they'll come at
you three at a time.  Bringing Antonio to a stop will take 9 hits to his car.
You want to stay completely away from hitting him in the rear; all hits should
be from the side.
________________________________________________________
               \Level 5 ---- Tyrone the Wanted Criminal\

Cars will come at you three at a time in a constant stream.  Dodging all of
them is close to impossible.  However, the final boss isn't that much tougher
than the previous one; he only needs 10 hits to be brought to justice.
Again, try to always connect with the side of his car.

                              vi. HINTS AND TIPS
=--=-=-==-=-=---===---===-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-==-=====-=-=-=-

These hints should help you complete the game successfully.

- If you are below 90 MPH, put the car in low gear.  Once you get close to
90, shift into hi gear to reach maximum speed.

- Crashing into the side of a criminal's car will inflict more damage; stay
away from smashing the rear of his vehicle.

- Your car will uncontrollably skid when you crash into another vehicle.
You must steer in the direction of the slide to regain control.

- Try to stay on the inside of turns; you can avoid the other cars easier
by giving ground and going to the outside.

- Save your Turbos for when you get to the boss.  After you tap the boss,
he'll try to jet into the distance.  Use a turbo in these situations and
you can catch up to him easily.

- Don't crash while using a turbo; you'll lose it.

- You do get four continues, and at each continue you'll get a new supply
of turbos.  Therefore, if you know you won't make the deadline, go ahead
and burn your turbos to get as close as possible before you run out of
  time.

- In the tumbleweed section of each level, a weed will be sitting on either
side of the road.  To avoid all of them, drive in the center of the road.
This will make weaving inbetween the tumbleweeds easier.

- When hitting a boss, don't just tap him and then back off.  You can
actually inflict multiple hits at once by basically driving through his car.

- When trailing a boss, use a turbo immediately after you hit him to prevent
him from making a momentary escape.
