Welcome to 'Soreyuke! Amida-Kun' for the GameBoy, a puzzle game released in
1990 by Sofix and Coconuts Japan. It is often just referred to as 'Amida'.
If you find a way to solve a puzzle with less bridge placements I'm willing to
consider them as additions, as long as they aren't very hasty to pull off nor
mess up the maps too much. Alternative strategies are also ok if they are an
improvement over the existing strategy in any way.

02.) OVERVIEW & CONTROLS G0200
===============================================================================
The main screen gives you a few options before you start playing. First select
1 out of 4 music tunes you want to hear while you play. Second the game's speed
is how fast your little guy will run through the level. 8 is the slowest and
recommended setting. If you think you are a more advanced player you can tweak
this a little but the fastest setting (1) is close to insane. Finally, you can
input a level password to skip ahead or restart from where you left off
earlier.
During the level, your aim is to bring the small Kirby look-a-like (from hereon
referred to as 'Amida' even though I'm not sure this is its name) home at the
bottom of the screen. It will start at one of the routes chosen at random and
all you can help is to build bridges along the way. At every possible turn it
will take it.
For example, consider this simple layout.

At the START Amida will walk down to point A and turn towards B. At B it will
turn again downwards as it will never walk up, not counting the diagonal
upwards slopes. In other words, Amida never walks straight up.
Place bridges to cross Amida from one lane to another and avoid the mines. Use
the directional buttons to move around and A to place the bridge. After Amida
walks over it, the bridge will automatically become moveable again. However,
with the B button one can unset a bridge and move it around again. You cannot
place a bridge horizontally next on existing bridge as a T-junction is all the
little fellow can handle with its direction skills.
The moveable bridge always starts out at the bottom of the screen. Generally
you want to move it up before Amida starts walking so you can quickly place any
necessary bridges before it's too late. Moving down to place a bridge is always
easier as he will walk there first.
Starting with level three you will see the REVERSE BRIDGES. They basically just
make you walk on them, turn back and then continue on the previous lane. They
seem to be nothing more than giving you time to think about your next move(s).
If you drop down from a broken bridge you will continue walking into the other
direction as above, because it is after all a 'reverse' bridge.
After the fourth level, WARPS are available. They work in the way that you
enter from one side and continue on the other warp, the same direction you were
walking. In other words, enter one warp from the left, you'll exit the other
one on the right side.
Level six onwards features BROKEN BRIDGES. Stepping on these will drop you down
to the lower level, if available. Should there be nothing, you die. Should
there be a mine, you die. If there is another bridge then Amida will keep
walking the direction he was when stepping on the broken bridge.
The 'T' bridges that appear on level ten will accelerate Amida by around fifty
percent. This will make it harder to control its walking and coordinate the
bridges ahead. Avoiding them is preferred, but not entirely necessary.
You start the game with three lives and lose one for each mistake. You need to
finish a level of 10 stages to obtain its password. Entering the a password
starts you off with three lives at the first stage of that level. There are a
few levels where you will lose a life if the starting lane is a specific one,
there is nothing you can do about it in this case so just take the hit and
retry.

Gameplay: 7/10
Good puzzler, but the speed setting is a little ridiculous and without a pause
button this is nearly impossible to think about in later levels. Fortunately we
are given passwords to continue on. This makes it ok to play on later if you
didn't manage to get through and perhaps learn from your mistakes and get some
idea how to solve a level. Many levels require to be very fast at the start,
and missing it might even mean you have no way to avoid death. Instead I was
hoping for more game modes rather than the simple stuff all the time. I'm sure
it would work well. The speed option isn't what I call an extra mode. Playing
on anything but easy is not worthwhile your time.
Graphics: 7/10
Very basic, but basic will do. Neat mine and cute animations, it represents
everything the game wants to in a nice way. I think color would actually make
this more confusing to play anyway. I could do with less confusing gameplay
instead. Amida (I assume that's his name) is cute and looks like an old style
of Kirby. There are also some other incarnations that aren't quite as cute, and
the graphic limitations really show.
Sound: 6/10
There are a few music pieces to chose from, and the sound effects are working
out, yet there isn't much else to write about. I don't really recommend to play
this seriously with music on, as you need to keep most of your concentration
for trying to quickly solve those bridge puzzles.
Overall: 7/10
Recommended for puzzle fans, the average gamer might find this a little boring
and even quite hard in the later levels. The death-trapped filled levels should
last a while if you have to re-play them often. The password system helps to
split this into manageable chapters. A similar game was included as a mini-game
in the NES game Dai Meiro, and to think this was actually sold as a full
version game really doesn't seem so great now. If you managed to get through
this game on your own, I congratulate you.
