- Introduction -
..............................
Hi, I'm just another Rondo of Swords fan who simply loves the character
conversations included in the game. But since I couldn't find a guide with
complete conversations for the branching paths, I thought I'd write my own.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

The conversations listed are found after the branching point in stage 20. They
will be following Path A.
Selecting Path A

You must NOT to kill Marie in Stage 20. Once the stage begins, wait 4 turns
until the conversation I've stated begins. You will now be on path A.
I've written each conversation with the following structure:

The Fated Hour
----------------------------------
--- Marie & Serdic --- (The Path of A)
... NOTE ...
(Can only be accessed if you do NOT kill Marie.)
Marie: Why will you not strike me down?
Serdic: Why would I!? Don't talk such nonsense! What do you mean, you'd
sacrifice your own life!? On the day Egvard fell... I made a vow that
I would protect you! I will not allow you to sacrifice yourself!
Marie: But while I live, the Holy Blade cannot be revived... How else do you
plan to restore Bretwalde!?
Serdic: I... don't know. But any method that requires the sacrifice of one so
dear to me as you, Marie... It is wrong on the face of it! So I will
seek a more righteous method.
Marie: Is that your true desire, elder brother?
Serdic: Yes. Those are my true feelings, stripped bare of any and all lies.
Marie: I understand. If that is the case, I will never again make such a
request.
Serdic: I am glad you understand, Marie...
Marie: ...Though I confess, I never expected you to be so passionate
about me.
Serdic: ?

----------------------------------
Order of Darkness
----------------------------------
--- Aegil & Igraine --- (Light vs. Dark)
Aegil: You there... girl.
Igraine: Do you mean Raine?
Aegil: Yes, yes. You're a member of the Order of Anrah, correct?
Igraine: And what if I was, Miss Puppet Pope? What would you do?
Aegil: Hmph. I don't know what schemes you have in mind...
But if you try to lay a hand on Serdic, then in Valen's name, I will
not stand idly by. Look at this town... All these Anrah initiates are
capable of is causing trouble for decent folk.
Igraine: They're all only trying to find peace! It's only one isolated group
of initiates who wants to hurt anyone...
I mean, even you had your own country taken from you by a rogue group
of followers, right?
How can you still think everyone who believes in the same thing
thinks the same way?
Aegil: Hmm...
Igraine: Besides, Verona was the one who started oppressing Anrah!
Didn't you say. "Do not harm others. It is a sin, and greater harm is
upon you"?
Aegil: I never said any such thing.
Igraine: That's why I say you're a puppet.
Aegil: What!?
Igraine: What of it?
Aegil: .....
Igraine: .....
Aegil: ...Hrmph. I'll let it slide this once.
Igraine: That sounds so evil!
Aegil: Silence!!
--- Igraine & Galahad --- (Grandpa Joins)
Igraine: Oh, Grandpa! Grandpa, it's you!
Galahad: Hrm? That voice... that face... Is that you, Princess? You've grown
some during our time apart! Though you still haven't grown quite
enough...
Igraine: What do you mean by that?
Galahad: Height! Your height.
Igraine: ...Okaaay. So, what have you been doing, Grandpa?
Galahad: I was watching over everyone and at some point I got dragged into
this. So here I am... an old man out on the battlefield.
Igraine: You should just abandon them.
Galahad: Well, that's easy for you to say, Princess.
Igraine: But aren't Mephreyu and his goons the only ones who want to fight?
Plus, I made Serdic a promise... that he wouldn't do anything bad to
the people who don't fight. So it's okay!
Galahad: Serdic... That would be the crown prince of Bretwalde, yes?
Igraine: He's a good person, though! Just like Raine.
Galahad: Well then, I guess there's no harm in accompanying you, Princess.
Once we take out there leader, the rest of them should realize what
fools they're being.
--- Serdic & Galahad --- (The Little Princess)
... NOTE ...
(Can only be accessed after speaking to Galahad with Igraine.)
Galahad: It's good to meet you, Prince Serdic. I've decided to fight under
your banner.
Serdic: Will you be all right, betraying the Order?
Galahad: Oh, they'll probably be a bit cross with me.
Serdic: I'm not sure "cross" will be the word for it...
Galahad: Oh, you needn't worry yourself, Prince Serdic. I can take whatever
life deals out, so long as I'm at the Princess' side.
Serdic: The Princess?
Galahad: Oh, I refer to Princess Igraine. She's said to possess pure blood
from the Darkness itself. Anrah has watched over her carefully.
We guard her as one would a precious jewel.
Serdic: A precious jewel, eh...?
Galahad: I felt sorry for her, so I struck up a friendship with her.
We're not related, but she's come to see me as her Grandpa.
Though I do wish she'd call me "big brother"... It would make me so
happy. But I suppose our age difference is too great.
Serdic: So, then... You're her "Grandpa". That clears up something I had
been wondering about.
Galahad: What might that be?
Serdic: You're the one who taught her that word, you villain!
Galahad: I-It's what you deserve for getting too close to my Princess!
Let that be a lesson to you, Prince Serdic!
Serdic: Wh-Why you...!
Galahad: All kidding aside... the Princess is a lonely girl. I ask that you
please protect her.
Serdic: Right, of course I will.
Galahad: Just for show, mind you.
Serdic: For show!?
--- Arios & Galahad --- (A Cutie Wanted)
... NOTE ...
(Can only be accessed after speaking to Galahad with Igraine.)
Arios: Honored Sir, I am told that you belong to the Order of Anrah.
Galahad: Yes, that is correct.
Arios: Which implies you have knowledge of Darkness-based magic, yes?
Galahad: Well, naturally. Do you... wish to know of Darkness magic?
Arios: Yes, I am most curious... It has long been said that the Order
possesses knowledge which has been lost to Almeria. For the sake of
Bravord's future, I am keen to learn whatever you have to teach me.
Galahad: I don't mind giving a few lessons but... I do have one condition.
Arios: Which is...?
Galahad: Set me up with a cutie.
Arios: Hmmm... There's Elmer, one of my apprentices. He has a pretty face,
but a foul mouth.
Galahad: Elmer, you say? Well, sometimes a little bit of kindness can set an
ill-tempered youth straight.
Arios: Then I will talk to Elmer on your behalf later.
Galahad: Looking forward to it!

The Snow Thaws
----------------------------------
--- Galahad & Elmer --- (Poor Elmie)
... NOTE ...
(Can only be accessed after triggering the conversation between Arios and
Galahad in Stage 21.)
Galahad: Ohhh, you must be little Elmie!
Elmer: What do you want, geezer? And quit it with the creepy name!
Galahad: Master Arios told me allll about you. Why don't we sit down for a cup
of tea?
Elmer: ..... I'm a boy.
Galahad: I'll show you the Order's secret tea-brewing technique! It makes for
quite the delicious pot of-- A BOY!?
Elmer: What do I look like?
Galahad: Until you opened your foul mouth, I thought you were a girl!
Elmer: Why you--!! You wanna die!?
Galahad: I wish I was dead now! Oh, where did my golden years go!?
Elmer: How should I know!?
---Elmer & Selmer --- (Hint of Modesty)
Elmer: Once we take care of these guys, we'll be in the Central Plains.
Man, we're sure taking the long way around.
Selmer: It's because everyone has something they needed to do. And if we'd
taken a more direct route, we might have succumbed to their numbers.
Elmer: Hmph. I could taken every one of 'em with my magic. ...I wish, anyway.
But nah, you're right.
Selmer: Now that's a surprise.
Elmer: Huh?
Selmer: That's a rare show of modesty from you, Elmer. You normally boast of
far greater abilities than you actually possess.
Elmer: ...Feh...
--- Galahad & Margus --- (A Disturbingly Odd Man)
Galahad: ......
Margus: ......
Galahad: ......
Margus: ...Is something the matter, old man?
Galahad: Heheheh... I sense in you a spirit similar to mine, Sir Margus.
Margus: Similar to yours? You mean I have an affinity for Darkness magic or
something?
Galahad: No, I mean your attitude toward women.
Margus: Mister Galahad... allow me to clear up one thing. I have no interest
in 12-year-olds!
Galahad: What are you saying!? Do you mean to tell me you don't understand the
Princess' allure!? She who is as a fetching young show hare, hopping
across the grassy fields of Verona...! That purest of all creatures,
like a pristine forest, unsullied by man's hand!
Margus: Very poetic, but... That's not what I mean. She's cute, of course,
but...
Galahad: So, you have designs on my Princess!? Veronan cur!
Margus: Wh-What a disturbingly odd man...
--- Marie & Aegil --- (An Unholy Union)
Marie: Soon we will be within Bretwalde's borders.
Aegil: It's a short journey once you reach the Central Plains. It's strange,
though...
Marie: What is?
Aegil: Serdic's feelings aside, I thought you'd be more upset by my refusal to
recognize him as king. But on the contrary, you seem to be happy about
it.
Marie: Th-That's not true!
Aegil: Oh ho... is there something between you and Serdic? Though not
something that's been boasted of... Marriage between siblings has not
been unknown in Verona's long history. You'd have my blessing.
Marie: Lady Aegil! If your words mean what I suspect they do, I shall not be
able to hold my temper!
Aegil: Ohoho... You are precious when you're upset, Marie.
--- Shino & Izuna --- (A Cold Shino)
Shino: Brr! Aren't you cold in that outfit?
Izuna: Nope. Why, are you?
Shino: ...I'm not cold.
Izuna: It's gonna be spring soon, huh?
Shino: ...You really don't feel the cold?
Izuna: Really!
Shino: Well... I guess you don't seem the type to catch a cold.
Izuna: Hah! Score one for me!
Shino: It must be nice being so naive...

For Whose Sake?

--- Kay & Serdic --- (Sending Kay)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you speak to Kay before Margus.)
Kay: Thank goodness... none of Cale's soldiers are numbered among the
casualties.
Serdic: Would you rather I had sent you as ambassador to Cale?
Kay: No, Your Highness. It would have been tactically questionable to
divide our forces that way. I abide by your judgement, Your Highness.
Serdic: ... Kay...
<Choice>
1. Will you go to Cale for me?
2. ......
Choice 1
---------
1. Will you go to Cale for me?
Kay: !?
Serdic: Not at the moment, of course. We have a battle to win.
Kay: B-But...
Serdic: I really would prefer not to fight unnecessary battles. Then, too...
This restrained demeanor doesn't become you, does it?
Kay: Your Highness...
Serdic: Take care of Cale for me, Kay.
Kay: Yes, Sir!
Choice 2
---------
2. ......
Kay: Your Highness?
Serdic: ...It's nothing. Let's concentrate on the battle at hand.
Kay: Yes, Sir.
--- Margus & Serdic --- (Sending Margus)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you speak to Margus before Kay.)
Margus: At this rate, we'll most likely have to face Cale's soldiers...
Serdic: Margus, was it true before, what you said about Cale?
Margus: Hm? You mean that Kay and their governor are friendly? It's quite
true, Your Highness. In spite of himself...
Serdic: N-No... not that. The bit afterwards.
Margus: Ahhhm... Oh, the part about recruiting them as potential allies?
By your leave, I could head there immediately and talk with her.
Serdic: Hmm...
<Choice>
1. Yes, I'd like you to go to Cale.
2. No... never mind.
Choice 1
---------
1. Yes, I'd like you to go to Cale.
Margus: Then I'll be off right away.
Serdic: Stay, Stay! You can go after this battle is won.
Margus: Hahah! Of course, Your Highness. I understand.
Choice 2
---------
2. No... never mind.
Serdic: It's best we don't divide our attention that way. Let's focus on the
task at hand.
Margus: I can't argue with that. (I guess personal feelings have no place on
the battlefield...)
--- Ansom & Sasha --- (The Long Road)
Sasha: It looks like Prince Serdic is hesitating.
Ansom: Well, he is soft-hearted. Though I don't remember him always being this
way...
Sasha: Isn't it a change for the better?
Ansom: It's no bad thing to believe in humanity. But it's a difficult road to
hoe.
Sasha: But it's no less wonderful for that, is it? I believe in you, Young
Master.
Ansom: How did we end up on this subject? First off, you don't have to say
it--I know. There's no reason to bring it up in public, understood?
Sasha: Yes, Young Master.
--- Alhambra & Serdic --- (Smack!)
Alhambra: We made it all the way out to the Central Plains for this?
Ridiculous.
Serdic: I am sorry. It's all because I wasn't acknowledged as king...
Alhambra: Whoa, whoa, I'm not blaming you. They're the ones who joined up with
the Empire. C'mon, don't look so down.
Serdic: Yeow, that hurts...! I must ask that you not hit me so hard.
Alhambra: I'll smack you every time I see you making that face! Hoo hoo hoo!

--- Opening Conversation --- (Kay)
(This conversation can only be accessed if you sent Kay to Cale in stage
24.)
Kay: Alicia, wait!
Alicia: ...Kay? Kay, is that you?
Kay: Please withdraw your men! I don't want to fight you...
Alicia: ......
Kay: Alicia!
Alicia: ...Cale's only chance of survival was to throw our lot in with the
Empire.
Kay: ......
Alicia: I couldn't let the town my father left in my care be destroyed.
Kay: We will lend you our strength to save Cale. So please... stop this!
Alicia: If you were going to make such an offer, why leave us in the first
place!? Why did you leave me!? You and Margus both!
Kay: Alicia... that was...
Alicia: It doesn't matter. I don't want to hear any of your excuses.
Kay: Alicia... I'm so-
Alicia: Don't apologize! Just... don't... I was over it at last... I had
finally come to terms with it, and now you...
Kay: Both Margus and myself regret that we couldn't be here in your
darkest hour.
Alicia: ......
Kay: But Margus has NOT abandoned you. We haven't forgotten our vow that
day... not for one moment. You should know that, at least.
Alicia: ...And you?
Kay: What?
Alicia: What are your feelings, Kay?
Kay: You... know how I feel.
Alicia: I want to hear it straight from you, Kay... your true feelings.
Kay: Alicia... I want you to come with me so we can keep the vow we made
that day.
Alicia: ...I'll withdraw the troops. I couldn't very well face my father if I
turned on Bretwalde.
Kay: Thank you, Alicia. I'm glad you understand.
Alicia: I-It's not like I'm doing this for you. I'm siding with Bretwalde for
the sake of my people.
Kay: Yeah, I know. Now, let's hurry. We've got to meet up with Prince
Serdic.
(Kay leaves)
Alicia: (...You don't understand at all, do you?)
(But you DO remember... and right now, that's enough.)
(Father... please forgive my selfishness...)
--- Opening Conversation --- (Margus)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you sent Margus to Cale in stage
24.)
Margus: Now where are you off to in such a hurry, Alicia?
Alicia: Margus? Margus, is that you?
Margus: Yeah, I'm the Bretwalde Army's designated envoy.
Alicia: Their envoy...
Margus: And we could use your help, Ms. Governor of Cale.
Alicia: ...It's not mine to give now. Cale has allied itself with Grand Meir.
Please inform Prince Serdic.
Margus: That wasn't one of my acceptable outcomes. Won't you reconsider?
Alicia: Reconsider? Are you asking me to tell my men that I've had a sudden
change of heart? Are you crazy?
Margus: It's up to you to decide if it's worth it to you. I am only here to
convey Prince Serdic's message.
Alicia: There you go again... talking that way to keep your distance. You've
always been this way. You slather on the charm with other women, but
to me you're distant and aloof.
Margus: Really? I thought I was nice to everyone.
Alicia: Liar! In the end, you up and left for Bretwalde, and Kay went
following right behind you... Then the next time I see you, you're a
Bretwaldean knight. Do you know what I've been through since the two
of you left!?
Margus: ...Your answer, then?
Alicia: What if I say no?
Margus: Then I imagine one of us will end up killing the other.
Alicia: ...That's not fair, Margus.
Margus: You can do whatever you want, if you're not overly concerned with
appearances.
Alicia: ...I'll... join with Bretwalde. You know full well that I could never
point my sword at you.
Margus: I'm sorry.
Alicia: Hmph. Don't make things hard for me as I'm delivering 18,000 Cale
citizens, all on your word. We need to end this foolish war as soon as
we possibly can.
Margus: You're right.
Alicia: Very well, then... I'm going to get ready.
Margus: Alicia.
Alicia: ?
Margus: The reason I left... I didn't want you to depend on me. I wanted you
to be stronger if you were going to inherit the city.
Alicia: Is that so? Then we'll see if I've lived up to your expectations on
the battlefield.
--- Margus & Alicia -- (Poor Margus)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you sent Kay to Cale in Stage 24)
Margus: You're looking well.
Alicia: ......
Margus: Ow! Why the sudden punch?
Alicia: NOW I forgive you. Be grateful.
Margus: *sigh*... Still headstrong, aren't you?
Alicia: Are you after another punch?
Margus: I respectfully decline.
--- Kay & Alicia -- (Poor Kay)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you sent Margus to Cale in
Stage 24)
Kay: Alicia... Thank you for coming.
Alicia: ......
Kay: ? Oww! Wh-What was that for!?
Alicia: Are you saying you didn't deserve a good, hard punch?
Kay: W-Well, I...
Alicia: Are you?
Kay: No, I guess... I did.
Alicia: Do you have anything else to say for yourself?
Kay: Err... I'm sorry I left you without explaining myself.
Alicia: ......
Kay: Ow! Stop hitting me!
Alicia: Well... I admit, this is so like you, Kay. From here on out, we're
allies. I'm counting on you.
--- Alicia & Serdic -- (His Soft Heart)
Alicia: Prince Serdic... Forgive me in advance if I have misread the
situation, but... It felt as though you were knowingly walking into a
trap. Is that the case?
Serdic: ...I had my suspicions that not everything was as it seemed, yes.
Alicia: Then why would you do such a dangerous thing?
Serdic: They were... doubts.
Alicia: What?
Serdic: My worries were only doubts, not certainties. A tiny part of me
believed that they genuinely intended to surrender. And I thought it a
bit more likely that they were waiting for my arrival to decide.
Alicia: Waiting for your arrival...?
Serdic: Yes. After all, a decision like this isn't so easily reached, yes?
Even if they had their doubts, they may not have been able to bring
themselves to ally with us. So I thought that if I accepted their
invitation, it could prove to be the deciding factor.
...Though in the end, it was indeed a trap.
Alicia: I see. That's why they say you're soft-hearted.
Serdic: Undoubtedly.
Alicia: Then it's our duty to compensate for your soft-heartedness with our
own efforts.
Serdic: Alicia!
Alicia: But no matter how much we cover for you... There will be sacrifices.
I ask only that you remember this.
Serdic: ...I will.
--- Serdic & Owl --- (Reasons)
Serdic: Damn... Why are they turning on us?
Owl: It's not a great idea to try to get into a traitor's mindset, Prince.
Serdic: Why not?
Owl: Well, if they did have a reason, does that mean you'd let them go?
Serdic: ......
Owl: What you have to realize is, everyone has a reason to fight.
Them, you, even me.
Serdic: Even you, Owl?
Owl: Yeah. So when you're in the thick of it, just remember that reason.
You want to protect the Princess, right?
Serdic: ...I understand. Thank you, Owl.
Owl: Quit thanking me... It gives me the willies.
--- Elmer & Marie --- (A Really Unholy Union)
Elmer: Sheesh, he really is a softie.
Marie: Please don't blame my brother. He only wants to avoid needless
bloodshed.
Elmer: Fat lot of good that does us, if it leads to more losses on our side.
And you know, if you're that worried about your beloved brother...
Why don't you keep him on a tighter leash?
Marie: "Beloved"? It's nothing like that!
Elmer: What, is your relationship stalled in the friend zone? Better hurry up
and claim him... I'd hate to say "I told you so" if someone steals him
away. Like the Pope... or that brat.
Marie: I trust my elder brother.
Elmer: Huh...
Marie: What's the matter?
Elmer: I just thought you'd told Aegil your relationship with him wasn't like
that.
Marie: !!
Elmer: Ahahaha... Owww! Quit hitting me!

Red Lions Redeux
----------------------------------
--- Serdic & Ansom --- (The Sweet Life)
Ansom: The Red Lions, huh? Thinking back... they were the cause of our long
journey. But it's about time we settled this. It'll end happily, of
course. We'll defeat them, finish off the Empire, and go on to
reclaim Bretwalde and Shalem. And then it'll be time to enjoy the
sweet life.
Serdic: Th-The sweet life?
Ansom: That's right. Simple, easy, and free from all cares. You'll be joining
me, of course.
Serdic: See here, you can't just go and plan the rest of my life for me!
Ansom: Hmmm? Doesn't sound good to you? I just think you should have more
leisure in your life.
Serdic: I suspect you have too much leisure in yours...
Ansom: No... it's just the opposite. I have to hold onto this fantasy,
because otherwise, I could think of nothing but charging at them.
Red Lions... We won't be running this time.
--- Owl & Ansom --- (With Age Comes... Wisdom?)
Owl: Hey, Ansom.
Ansom: Oh, hello Owl. Can I... help you?
Owl: You ever feel like killing Clotho?
Ansom: Well, now that you ask... I haven't seen for myself the damage visited
visited upon Shalem, but she did take my home from me.
Owl: Makes sense. Well, I have a favor to ask... Let me have her.
Ansom: Come again?
Owl: If you don't want to kill her, that's okay. I'm fine doing it.
Ansom: What do you mean? Do you hold some sort of grudge against her?
Owl: Kinda.
Ansom: ...But you don't intend to share the details. Well, I suppose.
Clotho is all yours... Not that I ever intended to assert some sort of
right of execution. So you do whatever you please, and I'll do the
same.
Owl: Dodging the issue, huh...? You're a pretty crafty kid.
Ansom: Kid? Surely you're not much older than I am. I celebrated my 23rd
birthday this year. Still young, and plenty potent.
Owl: Stop saying stuff like that...
23, huh? You know... that makes you older than me.
Ansom: What!? You're younger than me!?
Owl: 21 years old, yeah.
Ansom: .......
Well, clearly some people's lives have more hardships than others...
Owl: Excuse me for looking so old!
--- Owl & Marie --- (Payback)
Marie: Owl... you know the Red Lion, don't you?
Owl: Never met her, Princess.
Marie: But when we first met... you lent us your aid once you heard we fought
the Red Lion, didn't you?
Owl: You knew!?
Marie: No... I suspected. Now I know.
Owl: Ah... Hahaha! You're sharp as a cactus' needle, Princess.
Yeah, I know her. We met a long time ago, and she's had payback coming
ever since.
Marie: Payback?
Owl: Revenge. Punishment. Payback.
Marie: Then I would ask one last thing. Is your goal to kill the Red Lion?
Owl: Yeah... Well, no. That's not quite it. What I really want is to know
something. I wanna know how she feels about what she did.
Marie: And if her answer satisfies you... You'd let the past go?
Owl: Nah, I'm gonna go ahead with this no matter what...
But I still want to know. Hahaha, now I'm in the same boat as that
Prince.
Marie: Teehee... But yes, I too think it's better to know than live in
uncertainty.
Owl: ...You're right.
(Marie Leaves)
Owl: Clotho... What's going through your mind now?
--- Kay & Margus --- (New Strength)
Kay: Think there's much of a gap between ourselves and the Red Lions,
Margus?
Margus: Well... We have swelled our ranks since last time. But these are the
notorious Red Lions we're talking about. I doubt even increased
numbers will mean an easy battle.
Kay: ......
Margus: But we've already lost to them twice... first at the capital, and then
at Shalem. The odds practically guarantee a victory this time, right
Kay?
Kay: Right, Margus. Let's show them our new strength.
Margus: Yeah... well, with that settled, I'm curious about something. I hear
Clotho, the Red Lion, is a real stunner. What do you think?
Kay: I don't believe this...
--- Alicia & Galahad --- (Who's in the closet with Margus?)
Galahad: So, you must be Lady Alicia. Hmm... hmm. I see, I see...
Alicia: Honored Sir... For some strange reason, I feel a chill in the air.
Do you need something?
Galahad: I am a friend of Sir Margus. Our souls are bound to one another!
Alicia: Your souls!?
Galahad: And since you are acquainted with Sir Margus, I thought I would pay
you a visit.
Alicia: S-So Margus runs that way, does he? And with someone so old...
Galahad: Err, hello?
Alicia: I'm sorry... Something just came up. We can talk later.
Galahad: Y-Yes, of course.
Alicia: Damn you, Margus... you won't get away with this!
Galahad: ...Was it something I said?
--- Owl & Clotho --- (End of the Red Lions)
Owl: Clotho! You're through! Just stand down!
Clotho: Well, if it isn't Owl. I thought you were dead.
Owl: Sorry to burst your bubble. How many of my friends do you think are
dead because of you!?
Clotho: I only did what I thought best. You were the fools who tried to take
on the Empire. I guess out in the desert, they don't teach you not to
swim against the tide.
Owl: Is that why you sold out your friends? I'm taking revenge for all of
them! You're gonna bleed!
Clotho: If you think you can... Go ahead and try!
... Stage 27 ...
----------------------------------
The Crown Prince
----------------------------------
--- Altrius & Marie --- (The Truth)
Altrius: If you knew I was an imposter, why did you keep quiet?
Marie: Because if my elder brother was indeed dead, it fell to me to restore
Bretwalde. Therefore...
Altrius: Oh... so you were using me.
Marie: Well... that may be true. But you're the one at fault.
Altrius: What did I do?
Marie: You began to act so much like my elder brother... I began to hope
that my dream would come true...
Altrius: I'm sorry. I should have confided in you, Marie.
Marie: No, it's all right. Who knows? If you had been more straightforward,
I might have rejected you. Now, let's hurry to the Royal Capital!
--- Igraine & Altrius --- (Raine is Going With You)
Igraine: Altrius! Altrius...!
Altrius: What's the matter, Igraine?
Igraine: Marie's cheating! She's trying to get ahead of the rest of us by
giving you a name.
Altrius: Get ahead...?
Igraine: You're mine, Altrius! Mine! But it's okay. I'll let her have her
way... for now. Although the real Serdic is a dead man walking now...
Altrius: Then that really is Prince Serdic?
Igraine: Yep. It's probably Mephreyu's work. He's using the powers of
Darkness to control the corpse.
Altrius: How dare they defile Prince Serdic's body like that?
Igraine: Are you really going? I don't think anyone would say anything bad
about you if you just ran away.
Altrius: I'm going, no matter what. I made a promise to the Prince.
Maybe I will end up causing problems for everyone, but that's my
decision.
Igraine: You sure are selfish, Altrius! I wonder whose fault it is you ended
up this way?
Altrius: Well... I don't remember my parents at all, but it's possible they
could have been selfish. They do say that children take after their
parents.
Igraine: Mmhmm.
Altrius: So what are you going to do, Igraine?
Igraine: Isn't it obvious? I'm going with you. I can't leave you alone with
that Marie!
Altrius: I-Is that the only reason why...? Well, I'm glad to have you along
anyway, Igraine.
Igraine: You're not going to try to stop me this time?
Altrius: There doesn't seem to be any use. It's better to just be happy about
it instead.
Igraine: Ahahah! I love you, Altrius!
--- Marie & Owl --- (The Owl Stays)
Marie: Owl, why did you stay with the group?
Owl: I told you at the start that I'm not in this to help out Bretwalde,
didn't I? I'm in it to help you. Anyway, I've already done what I
wanted to do.
Marie: You refer to the Red Lion?
Owl: Yeah. It always feels lousy to fight an old friend, no matter what.
Marie: ......
Owl: This kid is fixing to do the same thing, so make sure you give him your
support.
Marie: ...You're right. Thank you, Owl.
Owl: Hmph.
--- Alhambra & Altrius --- (Alhambra Kicks Ass!)
Alhambra: I can't believe you were impersonating a Prince. You've got brass
balls, kid.
Altrius: I'm sorry I lied to you.
Alhambra: Aww, I don't mind. It's not like I came along just for a chance to
hang out with royalty. If you want to apologize, tell the other
guys.
Altrius: I'm also sorry that we couldn't restore your body to normal...
Alhambra: Well, I didn't expect you to snap your fingers and take care of it.
Hell, I'd have been annoyed if it had been that easy! Kind of,
"Why on earth did it take so long!?"
Altrius: That's true.
Alhambra: Well, all right, then. Let's go kick the Prince's ass!
--- Altrius & Shino --- (Shino Remains)
Shino: Hm. So you're an impostor.
Altrius: Urgh... I-I'm sorry.
Shino: ...Why apologize?
Altrius: Oh... you seemed angry.
Shino: ...... It takes more than this to see me angry.
Altrius: More than this? It wasn't a minor incident... I was impersonating
royalty.
Shino: It's minor to me. I don't care whether or not you're the real prince.
Either way, it makes for a good story to tell back home.
Altrius: Are you serious?
Shino: Dead serious.
Altrius: I see. So in that case, I can count on your support for a little
while longer?
Shino: Right. It's a pleasure working with you, Altrius.
--- Altrius & Izuna --- (Izuna Sits Tight)
Izuna: Whew! You seem like you're okay.
Altrius: Huh? What do you mean?
Izuna: I thought you might be sobbing like a newborn. 'Cause, see... you
seem kinda weak spirited.
Altrius: Do I really seem that weak...?
Izuna: Well, if you're fine, it's no biggie. C'mon, let's go!
Altrius: Are you saying you'll remain with me?
Izuna: Sure!
Altrius: That was a fast decision...
Izuna: Aw, who cares. Anyway, Shino-sis will back me up! She'll say, like,
"It makes for a good story to tell back home."
So c'mon! Everyone's waiting.
Altrius: W-Wait a second...
--- Rukia & Marie --- (Rukia Loiters Nearby)
Rukia: Well, this hasn't gone as planned.
Marie: What hasn't?
Rukia: I thought you'd tell the fake prince to stop fighting. Then, once he
didn't need the sword anymore, I thought I might be allowed to take it.
Marie: I'm sorry that reality did not conform to your expectations. But even
had Altrius decided to abandon the fight, he had no intention of
giving you Spanta.
Rukia: Really? Hmm. I guess I've got no choice. I'll just have to stick close
to him until he's willing to give it up.
Marie: I doubt that day will come, but... Why do you want Spanta so much?
Rukia: Well... You see, my homeland is under attack from Order initiates who
fled the inquisition. It was terrible. I kept thinking, "If only I had
the strength to stand up to them!" Although it's only recently that
I've wanted the sword.
Marie: So that's the reason...
Rukia: Actually the real reason is because I want to hold onto that beautiful
sword while I sleep.
Marie: Is that truly your reason!?
Rukia: Heeheehee... It's human nature to be driven by your impulses, whatever
they are.
Marie: You are serious!? This is beyond the pale...
Rukia: Aw, don't say that.
Marie: So then, which reason is true?
Rukia: Both, I guess. That's why the sword isn't my only reason for sticking
around.
Marie: I see... Then can I count on you for a little while longer, Rukia?
Galahad: Well, I did decide to follow Prince Serdic. Master Altrius, I mean.
I'll at least stay around while you're here, Princess.
Igraine: But we'll probably run into people from the Order at Egvard...
Is that okay with you?
Galahad: If we do, so much the better. We'll need to mete out some harsh
punishment, so we can snap them out of it.
Igraine: Even Mephreyu?
Galahad: Well... It would be best if he'd mend his ways after a light
beating... But that's probably too much to hope for.
Igraine: You're probably right. Well, now I know why you're staying with the
group, Grandpa.
Galahad: And what about you, Princess?
Igraine: Don't even ask! Raine is really hurt right now. I feel as if my heart
is adrift in the Veronan Sea!!
Galahad: Ohohoh! My apologies. I should have been able to guess what you were
thinking, Princess. So... shall I kill him?
Igraine: Y-You don't know what I'm thinking at all!
Galahad: Ohohohoh!
... Stage 28 ...

With His Allies
----------------------------------
--- During Battle --- (The Holy Ones)
Aegil: Blast... the battle's already begun.
Simon: Quelling the riots caused us too great a delay...
Yumiluna: Even so, though, it looks like Prince Serdic is still okay.
Aegil: Ah, not quite, Yumiluna.
Yumiluna: Huh?
Aegil: He seems to be calling himself Altrius now. Rrrgh... It was probably
that Marie who gave him the name. The girl knows what she's doing.
Simon: It matters not to me whether he goes by Serdic, Altrius, or
anything else. Let us link up with the man's forces!
--- During Battle --- (The Magic Ones)
Elmer: Hey, looks like the guys from Verona are here. I was hoping we'd be
the first ones to show up.
Arios: All I'm saying is that since we were already home, why wouldn't you
let me do some research?
Selmer: What are you saying!? Master, we nearly missed the battle! What would
you have done if the Bretwalde Army was wiped out!?
Arios: Don't worry so much, Selmer. They won't lose.
Selmer: There you go again... What possible justification do you have for
saying such a thing?
Arios: Hmm? Do you need some sort of justification to believe in them?
Selmer: I-It's not that, but...
Arios: Then start believing. Now, let us go and help them.
Selmer: Yes, Sir!
Elmer: Stop sucking up and move it!
--- Aegil & Altrius --- (Aegil's Entrance)
Aegil: Altrius, are you still all right?
Altrius: Aegil! Yes... I'm still in the fight. I wasn't sure you would show
up, Aegil.
Aegil: Hmph. Don't think I was worried about you. After all, you've
committed a great sin with your deceit. I must watch over you
carefully.
Altrius: ....Thank you.
Aegil: Y-You're in no position to be thanking me! You waste time on words
when you should act! Hurry and free Egvard!
--- Yumiluna & Altrius --- (Yumiluna Breezes In)
Yumiluna: Are you all right? You're still alive... aren't you?
Altrius: Yes, I am. I'm glad to see you here too, Yumiluna.
Yumiluna: Oh, Pope Aegil is the one you should be thanking. I was so tired
when we arrived back in Verona that I fell asleep on my feet, right
there and then. If she hadn't woken me up, I probably wouldn't have
come...
Altrius: Oh... I see... Yes, I'll go and thank Aegil...
--- Simon & Marie --- (Simon Arrives)
Simon: Princess Marie, are you all right?
Marie: Simon! You came as well?
Simon: Yes. Remember, I did vow to protect you, Princess Marie.
Pope Aegil was very graceful in obliging my request to come here.
Marie: Teehee... beg pardon, but don't you have it the other way around?
Simon: Mmm... I mustn't speak ill of my liege, and will let your insinuations
go unanswered. But what of Altrius? Have you forgiven him so quickly?
Marie: I did loathe him at first... He was my elder brother's double, yet
failed to perform his role and die in my brother's place.
But I'm sure Altrius regrets that day as deeply as I do.
And if that is so, then instead of blaming him, I feel I must support
him even more strongly.
Simon: Hmmm... It seems my time enjoying your favor is drawing to a close!
Marie: Sir Simon! Th-That isn't true!
Simon: Hahaha... If I could be so bold as to ask a boon of the Princess...
Allow me to serve as your knight until the war's end.
--- Elmer & Altrius --- (Elmer Rejoins)
Elmer: Yo. You still kicking?
Altrius: Yes... somehow.
Elmer: Huh. Well, guess you don't need me, then.
Altrius: No... I'm so tired, I feel like I can barely move. I'd really
appreciate your help.
Elmer: Hrmph... you smooth-talker. Well, good enough. Let's go.
Altrius: Thank you, Elmer.
Elmer: What, like I'm doing this for you?
Altrius: I know how kind you are.
Elmer: What did I JUST say!?
--- Marie & Selmer --- (Selmer Shows Up)
Selmer: Are you all right, Princess Marie?
Marie: Very much so, Selmer, thanks to all of you.
Selmer: We meant to arrive sooner, but... There were some... complications.
Marie: That's quite all right. Everyone has their own circumstances to deal
with. I can imagine how difficult things must have been for you once
you were back in Almeria.
Selmer: Oh... No, it didn't take very much time to convince the council.
It's just...
Marie: Yes...?
Selmer: ......
Marie: I understand. For you sake, I won't inquire further. You've done well,
Selmer.
Selmer: Thank you very much...
--- Igraine & Arios --- (Arios Returns)
Igraine: Oh, Arios! You came too?
Arios: Naturally. I have an important duty... To examine every last inch of
Altrius' physique.
Igraine: I won't let you!! Altrius is all mine!
Arios: But isn't he currently devoted to another woman?
Igraine: Y-You think so too, Arios!? If even you see it... I mean, you never
seem like you understand how normal people feel!
Ohhh... This is terrible...
Arios: Now, now, don't be so sad. Why don't I give you a complete physical
to help you relax?
Igraine: Arios... That's what I mean... You have no idea what it means for a
lady to have a broken heart...
... Stage 29 ...

War of Liberation
----------------------------------
--- During Battle --- (The Swift Ones)
Sasha: They've made it so far... Young Master, let's head to the Bretwalde
Army's current position. ...Young Master?
Ansom: An impostor, eh? Which would mean my father died for a man he didn't
know...
Sasha: Young Master...
Ansom: In other words... It means he's worth a great deal to Shalem.
Sasha: Young Master!
Ansom: I can't let my subjects think I'm an uncaring ruler. We're going to
help Bretwalde!
Sasha: Right!
--- During Battle --- (The Power Ones)
Margus: Egvard, huh? It's been a year...
Kay: ......
Margus: Why so grumpy, Kay?
Kay: I'm not grumpy!
Alicia: Does it really bother you about being lied to all this time?
Margus: I think what's upsetting Kay is that he wasn't told.
Alicia: Oh, I see... he wanted to be the one guy Altrius confided in.
Kay: Shut up, both of you! Oh, do whatever you want--I'm going home!
Margus: Are you really okay with that?
Alicia: Kay... it was thanks to you all that I avoided being forced to ally
with Grand Meir. You saved me from having to betray you. So don't
turn around and betray yourself now.
Kay: Myself...
Margus: Well, if that's how Kay feels, maybe it's time the two of us just went
and joined the battle.
Kay: Wait.
Margus: Yeah?
Kay: I'll go, too. I still can't forgive him for passing himself off as the
Prince like that... But for the Princess' sake, I'll restrain myself
for now.
Alicia: Mmm... Not very in touch with your feelings, are you?
--- Alberich & Altrius --- (Alberich Recruited)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you spoke to Alberich with
Serdic/Altrius in Stage 19.)
Alberich: You're the Crown Prince Serdic... Or rather, his double.
Altrius: You're Alberich, right?
Alberich: You remember my name. Perhaps you also recall my policy against
showing mercy in battle?
Altrius: Err...
Alberich: However, I am no longer a citizen of Grand Meir. So you can lower
your sword. I don't intend to fight you,
Altrius: What's this all about?
Alberich: I've left the Empire, so you and I have no more reason to fight.
Though I suppose if you want revenge for my part in the fall of
Bretwalde... I certainly couldn't blame you. But if you intend to
kill me, you'll find that I won't simply lie down and die.
Altrius: No. I have no desire to fight anyone I don't have to.
But... what exactly is going on?
Alberich: Even war has its ethics. Defiling soldiers' corpses is in violation
of them. That's all.
Altrius: You're talking about Prince Serdic.
Alberich: I owe much to Emperor Gauss, but my heart is no longer into fighting
for his cause. So perhaps it's time I quietly took my leave of the
battlefield.
Altrius: Then again, perhaps not... Why don't you fight by my side?
Alberich: And betray the Empire? Don't patronize me. I may have lost interest
in fighting for Grand Meir... But that doesn't mean I'll switch
sides at the drop of a hat.
Altrius: Didn't you just say that what they're doing is unforgivable, though?
If that's true, and you had a hand in starting it... Then you have
a duty to stop Prince Serdic. Don't you agree?
Alberich: ...You'd say anything to get me to join up, wouldn't you?
Altrius: Yes, I would.
Alberich: Wha-!?
Altrius: To be honest, I'd be happy if you were to fight with me. But I can't
force you to raise your sword against your friends.
In the end, you should just do what you think is best.
Alberich: ...What's your name?
Altrius: Sorry?
Alberich: Your name. If we're going to fight side by side, I have to call you
something besides "Double".
Altrius: Oh! My name is Altrius. Thank you, Alberich.
Alberich: There's no need to thank me. This is my duty, right?
I, Alberich, retired general of the Fifth Division, will join you in
order to stop Prince Serdic.
--- Ansom & Altrius ---- (Ansom Reunites)
Ansom: Serdic... Or rather, Altrius.
Altrius: Ansom! I'm so sorry... this whole time, I posed as your childhood
friend...
Ansom: What of it? Isn't there something more important going on now?
Hurry and head for the palace!
Altrius: Huh? But I lied to you...
Ansom: Are you still stuck on that? If I was letting that bother me, would I
have come here?
Altrius: So you're saying...
Ansom: It doesn't matter. I'm not here to help my childhood friend.
I'm here to help Altrius whom I've been travelling with.
Is there anything else you have to ask of me?
Altrius: No... that's all. Let's head to the palace.
Ansom: After you, Altrius!
--- Kay & Altrius --- (Kay Rides In)
Kay: Prince Serdic... Or rather, his double. You were lying to us the
whole time, weren't you?
</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
Altrius: Kay, I understand how you feel, I do. So if you're going to judge me
for deceiving you all, you have the right. But can it at least wait
until this battle is over?
Kay: Why?
Altrius: Because my goal here is to keep my promise to Prince Serdic.
Kay: Your promise...?
Altrius: I know it's selfish, but I have to finish this.
Kay: ......
Altrius: Please, Kay.
Kay: ...The more you say, the more I realize you're nothing like
Prince Serdic. So why didn't I see it before? Well... I was probably
trying not to think about how I couldn't protect the real Prince.
Master Altrius... For now, I will follow your orders.
Altrius: Kay!
Kay: But don't misunderstand me. I'm only doing this for the Princess'
sake. Not yours.
Altrius: I understand. Thank you, Kay.
--- Margus & Altrius --- (Margus Blocks In)
Margus: Well, we may have been delayed a bit thanks to Kay's outburst...
But the hero always shows up in the end. And sure enough...
Sir Margus has arrived.
Altrius: Hah! You never change, Margus.
Margus: I suppose taking offense at that would only reveal my poor sense of
judgement... After all, if you weren't one who could be trusted, the
Princess wouldn't stand at your side. Then, too...
Altrius: Yes?
Margus: Well, you seem to have knack for attracting female companions.
I couldn't live with myself if I weren't right there with them.
Altrius: You never change...
--- Alicia & Altrius --- (Alicia Falls In)
Alicia: Master Altrius, are you all right?
Altrius: Oh, Alicia... I didn't think all of you would come.
Alicia: You should say what you mean. By "all of you," you mean "Kay and
Margus," right?
Altrius: No, I meant the three of you.
Alicia: I was about to ally with the Empire, and changed my mind.
If I switched allegiances again, my people would lose all their
confidence in me. Do I seem like a woman foolish enough to do that?
Altrius: No, that's not...
Alicia: It's true that we haven't known each other for very long, Master
Altrius. Of course I understand your reasons for the deception...
Nevertheless, it came as a shock.
Altrius: Umm... I'm sorry.
Alicia: What are you apologizing for? If you're apologizing for not telling
me, then you are being faintly ridiculous. It isn't your fault at
all, Master Altrius.
Altrius: No, you see...
Alicia: Hmm. I guess both Kay and Margus neglected to tell you much about me.
That's about what I get for leaving to those two...
Altrius: L-Listen...
Alicia: Yes?
Altrius: I know there's a lot you want to say, but we're in the middle of a
crucial battle. I'd love to get to know you better, but couldn't it
wait for a better opportunity?
Alicia: ...I see.
Altrius: Huh--!?
Alicia: You're saying that you want to know what kind of woman I am in the
heat of battle. Excellent. I couldn't think of a better gauge of
character myself. I'll show you how a woman like me fights,
Master Altrius! Now if you'll excuse me...
Altrius: ...She's like a female Arios...
--- Marie & Sasha --- (Sasha Reconciled)
Marie: Sasha! You came, too?
Sasha: I'm here to make sure the Young Master doesn't do anything reckless.
Marie: Teehee... Emir Ansom really is dear to you, isn't he, Sasha?
Sasha: I could ask the same of you, Princess.
Marie: What?
Sasha: Well, Master Altrius holds a special place in your heart, doesn't he?
Marie: ...That he does.
Sasha: Well then... let's go.
Marie: Yes. We have much work to do, to protect those dearest to us.
--- Yumiluna & Alberich --- (What Was I Saying...?)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed after you speak to Alberich with
Altrius)
Yumiluna: Oh...
Alberich: Alberich.
Yumiluna: Oh, yes! Yes, of course... I remember your name very well...
Alberich: Well... that's fine as it goes, but...
Yumiluna: It's nice to see you again.
Alberich: It seems I finally have the chance to pay back my debt from Verona.
Yumiluna: Oh, there's no need for all that. As the Holy Book says...
Weakness is a... Hrmm... What DID the Holy Book say about
weakness...?
Alberich: ...Apparently, her poor memory isn't limited to names.
--- Altrius & Matthias -- (End of the Gold Lions)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation will be triggered when either Altrius is about to attack
Matthias or vice-versa.)
Altrius: Please stand down and let us through.
Matthias: You say that with such optimism. But I cannot grant your request.

--- Marie & Altrius --- (To Send Him Off)
Marie: Do you believe that man is really my elder brother?
Altrius: I don't know. But whether he's real or fake, I can't allow this to
continue.
Marie: Altrius, what do you intend to do?
Altrius: I'm going to kill Prince Serdic. There's no polite way of saying
it... I am going to kill him.
Marie: Then I will help you.
Altrius: Marie, there's no need for you to take part in this.
Marie: You've brought me this far, and you say this now?
Besides... I wasn't able to be with him the first time he died.
This time, I would like to be there to see him off.
Altrius: Marie...
--- Kay & Margus --- (The Duties of a Knight)
Kay: At last, the palace... this is where everything began.
Margus: It's where Bretwalde was attacked, and where Prince Serdic died.
It's time, Kay.
Kay: We'll fulfill our duties as the only remaining knights of Bretwalde.
Margus: Right. Prince Serdic... it won't be long now.
This time, there will be no mistakes.
--- Selmer & Elmer --- (Attack Time!)
Selmer: Elmer, what do you think of this new Prince Serdic?
Elmer: Either it's a likeness they've gotten to walk like a man, or it's a
reanimated corpse. Whichever, it's a load of garbage.
Selmer: It was thanks to that "garbage" that they succeeded in splintering
our army.
Elmer: So? It just means their illusion worked, that's all. But it's not like
it had to be especially convincing for what they wanted to do.
Selmer: I wonder if that was the Order's goal all along.
Elmer: Who knows... Though if our faker had been coronated as planned, it
woulda been even worse for us... That was a close one, huh?
Selmer: True. Well then, if we foil this latest plan of theirs...
I do believe they'll be out of ideas.
Elmer: Which means now's the time to attack! C'mon, let's do this!
Selmer: When is it ever not the time to attack for you...?
--- Igraine & Galahad --- (Flattery gets you nowhere)
Galahad: Princess, isn't it our duty to defeat Prince Serdic?
Igraine: Wellll... no one is asking us to do it yet.
Galahad: Hmm... is that a good thing?
Igraine: It's not good or bad. But we should do it! Let's just take
responsibility here! Although the problem then would be actually
defeating Serdic...
Galahad: But the challenge is what makes it interesting, I think.
Igraine: Well... If you do decide to do it... Just don't SAY it's our duty or
our responsibility. That makes us sound even more responsible!
Galahad: Gahaha! True, true, very true. Just the kind of insight I'd expect
from you, Princess.
Igraine: Hmph! Flattery will get you nowhere.
Galahad: Wh-What!? The Princess doubts my praise... it must be HIS fault!
Igraine: Wait, Grandpa! If you do anything weird to Altrius, I'll be very
upset with you!
Galahad: Ohh... what a predicament! What am I supposed to do!?
Aegil: I have no way of knowing. At a guess, some remaining insurgents were
trying to escape under cover of darkness, but...
Elmer: Yeah, I'm sure it was nothing more than that... Sheesh. Some help you
are, I should have asked that Order girl, or Master Arios. Not some
stuck-up shrimp. You couldn't even put on your robes without an
attendant.
Aegil: Listen, Elmer...
Elmer: Yeah?
Aegil: I'm the Pope of Verona. If I say that snow is black, it's black.
With that in mind... what will it be? A burning at the stake, or public
humiliation?
Elmer: You can't grant yourself victory! That's cheating!
Aegil: It's called divine right, fool!
--- Igraine & Galahad --- (Wrong man, Grandpa)
Galahad: I sense the power of Darkness, Princess.
Igraine: It was Mephreyu... nothing he does is good.
Galahad: I should have killed him when he ogled you, Princess.
Igraine: Did you say something, Grandpa?
Galahad: No, Princess, it was nothing.
--- Rukia & Owl --- (That Ol' Gut Feeling)
Rukia: What an ugly sensation... They must be people like you.
Owl: I think they're more your ilk.
Rukia: Hmmm... I don't think so. They don't feel like thieves breaking in...
more like burglars trying to escape.
Owl: You can tell?
Rukia: It's just a gut feeling. The question is... what have these guys been
up to until now?
Owl: You don't know?
Rukia: How would I!? I don't know the first thing when it comes to the Order!
Owl: Well, just tell me what your gut says.
Rukia: Nope. My policy is never to speak up unless I'm dead certain.
Owl: So that "gut feeling" wasn't a guess at all...?
--- Alicia & Arios --- (...Come again?)
Alicia: Master Arios, I believe this is within you field of expertise.
What do you think?
Arios: Oh, hello Alicia. My field of expertise, hmm? Yes, that's certainly
true. There's one thing it could be...
Alicia: What is it?
Arios: This castle, Luruze, has been passed down since the time of Holy King
Altrius. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there was something here
they wanted.
Alicia: ...Master Arios.
Arios: Hmm? What's the matter?
Alicia: I haven't had the first idea what you've been talking about this
entire time. I'm... not as well-versed in these matters as you may
think. So if you could, please try to explain it a little more simply.
Arios: ......
Alicia: Master Arios? Did I say something to offend you?
Arios: N-No... this is the first time I've ever gotten I've ever gotten a
reaction like that.
Alicia: I see. It's all right, just try to explain everything as thoroughly
as you can.
Margus: You've got that right. Last time though, we lost and we couldn't do
anything but escape...
Kay: Not this time. We're going to protect Egvard at all costs!
--- Owl & Marie --- (Chit-Chat)
Owl: I'm guessing you're happy to have Bretwalde back, huh Princess?
Marie: Yes! And it's thanks to your help, Owl.
Owl: Hey now, cut that out.
Marie: It's the simple truth. If you hadn't listened to me back in the Gareh
Mountains, I don't know what would have happened.
Owl: Mmm... There's still enemies around here. We can talk later.
Marie: Of course. I hope you'll help us for a little while longer.
--- Altrius & Alberich --- (The Strength Within)
Altrius: We succeeded in stopping Prince Serdic. You can return to Grand
Meir now, right?
Alberich: You misjudge me. I'm going to stay with you until the end.
Altrius: Are you all right with that? We'll be fighting the Empire from here
on out.
Alberich: I've been prepared for that possibility from the start. And I must
admit... I've always wanted to try my strength against Emperor
Gauss'.
Altrius: Gauss...
Alberich: I left home because of my admiration for the Emperor. The pride
I felt as one of Emperor Gauss' hand-picked Grands was all that kept
me going sometimes... I need to see if I can find that same strength
within myself without his favor.
Altrius: I see. I wish you luck, then.
Alberich: Don't you mean you wish me victory?
Altrius: Well... I wasn't sure you were saying you wanted to win.
Alberich: Haha... I see your point.
Altrius: All the same, I hope you win. For all our sakes.
Alberich: You ask a lot, don't you? I can't make any promises, but I'll do my
best.
--- Altrius & Marie --- (The True Puppet Master)
Marie: The last time you and your men tried to protect Egvard... You weren't
able to, were you?
Altrius: No.
Marie: Then it's worked out well.
Altrius: What has?
Marie: Now you have a second chance at doing what you were unable to before.
You can redeem yourself.
Altrius: Thank you for the encouraging words, Marie. I'm beginning to feel
like I can do it this time.
Marie: that was the intended effect. I would be disappointed if my words
couldn't galvanize you.
Altrius: Oh, is that so? So you're saying that you've been pulling my strings
this entire time, eh?
Marie: Teeheehee...
--- Alicia & Rukia --- (Did I Mention, No?)
Rukia: I've been wondering, Alicia... Do you ever wear anything more...
feminine?
Alicia: I never thought YOU'D be the one to ask me that. I'm the governor of
Cale first, and a woman second. I must be a leader in every aspect:
action, speech, and even dress.
Rukia: Is that so, huh? Well, all I'm saying is I think Margus prefers girls
who're a little more ladylike.
Alicia: Wait... What is this about Margus all of a sudden?
Rukia: What d'you mean? That's how it is, right?
Alicia: ...No, no.
Rukia: Hmm?
Alicia: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Listen carefully. Margus and I don't have
that kind of relationship at all. You have the wrong idea.
Rukia: Kay, then?
Alicia: ......! Rukia! We're in the middle of a battle here! We don't have
time for idle gossip.
Rukia: Uh-uh... sure. I think that anguished look on your face is enough
for me. I'll leave it at that... for today.
... Stage 34 ...
----------------------------------
By the Hold Blade
----------------------------------
--- Kay & Alberich --- (I've Got My Eye on You)
Kay: ......
Alberich: If you have a question, ask. Don't just stand there glaring.
Kay: I'm worried that you might betray us to the Empire.
Alberich: I've already betrayed Emperor Gauss once--you think I would go
crawling back? Impossible.
Kay: Really?
Alberich: I can't say it any other way. If you think I'm lying, well...
use that spear you carry.
Kay: I've heard a lot about you. You don't seem like a man who'd lie
about this.
Alberich: It's best not to judge someone by what other people say.
Kay: That's why I've been watching you as well.
Alberich: I see. It looks like the old Crown Prince had good men at his side.
Now then, I'll be heading to the front lines before you change your
mind.
Kay: I'm counting on you.
Alberich: Praise me all you like, but you won't get anything else out of me.
Kay: I mean it.
Alberich: I see. Well, I'll do my best to live up to your expectations.
--- Alberich & Gauss --- (A Final Show of Strength)
Gauss: So you're with them, Alberich. I never thought you, of all my
Grands, would betray me.
Alberich: I'm only doing what I think is best, Emperor.
Gauss: Hah... I cannot argue with that. The two of us will finally be able
to test our strength against one another. I'll show no mercy.
Alberich: I wouldn't have it any other way.
--- Altrius & Gauss --- (End of The Empire)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation will be triggered when either Altrius is about to attack
Gauss or vice-versa.)
Altrius: Gauss! Withdraw your troops from the Central Plains!
Gauss: Serdic... no, I suppose you're Altrius now. You're asking the
impossible. It will be you who withdraws!
Altrius: You stubborn fool!
... Stage 35 ...
----------------------------------
To the Sealed Cave
----------------------------------
--- Margus & Kay --- (Hurry, Towards Darkness...)
Margus: So this is Mount Ararat... the site of Holy King Altrius' final
battle.
Kay: You know about this too, Margus?
Margus: Well, yeah. You know the story... Holy King Altrius, Spanta in hand,
fighting the Order of Anrah... This was the Order's last big
stronghold. Must be why the magic's so think here that even I can
feel it.
Kay: I guess it's just an enchanted place... It was probably easier to seal
away the Darkness here.
Margus: Mind you, it'd be easier to use the Darkness here, too.
Kay: Then we should hurry.
Margus: As if you had to say it...
Kay: I know, I know.
--- Altrius & Alberich --- (Missing in Ernest)
Alberich: The Fourth Army Division, huh?
Altrius: Looks like General Ernest isn't with them, though.
Alberich: Thank goodness for small favors. If Ernest was leading them, I doubt
we'd get away without any casualties.
Altrius: But then... where IS he?
Alberich: That's his style. He's probably got a surprise attack planned,
or he's going to wear us down first. Stay alert.
Altrius: Got it. We've come too far to die here.
--- Owl & Aegil --- (Well, You Could. Might Not Win Though.)
Owl: So this is Mount Ararat...
Aegil: Do you know it?
Owl: I thought about setting up my base here, a long time ago. After all,
it's where Holy King Altrius had his big showdown. I thought the
priests who came by on pilgrimages might make easy prey.
Aegil: Whatever happened to being to being a gentleman thief?
Owl: Hey, priests probably rake in tons of cash. What's the harm?
...Doesn't matter, though. It didn't go very well.
Aegil: Why ever not?
Owl: One of the guys in my gang was a hardcore religious nut. He was yelling
at me that we couldn't fight priests of Verona here, of all places.
Aegil: Ahaha! Yes, I can see where that would be a bad omen.
Owl: You can't fight God...
... Stage 36 ...
----------------------------------
Burning World
----------------------------------
--- Marie & Arios --- (So does he have a plan, or what?)
Marie: Master Arios, can you do something about these flames with your magic?
Perhaps you could reseal the power of Darkness, or...
Arios: Impossible. It doesn't matter how advanced my magic is...
No human being could accomplish such a thing. Not yet, anyway. With
more research, perhaps... No, no, it would never be ready in time.
Marie: I'd expect nothing less from you, Master Arios. You already have an
inkling of what to do, don't you?
Arios: No... not in the slightest.
Marie: What!?
Arios: It's all right. I have faith in my abilities.
Altrius: Oh yes, you're a magician... Do you know anything about this?
Cotton: Nope! All I know is that this is amazing!
Altrius: I-I see. Maybe this is something mere humans can't overcome...
--- Aegil & Selmer --- (...And Some Like it Cool)
Aegil: It's so beastly hot...
Selmer: That's the power of the purest of flames. Compared to this, the
Almerian desert is practically balmy.
Aegil: I don't feel a difference! I hate being hot!
Selmer: Mmm... It's true, Verona is cool all year round...
... Stage 37 ...
----------------------------------
Land of Ice
----------------------------------
--- Altrius & Selmer --- (For Worse or Worse?)
Altrius: This place is incredible... What in the world is going on?
Selmer: I never imagined such massive elemental power could be stably
contained...
Altrius: Not even by you?
Selmer: Even Almeria's magicians have to be concentrated in sufficient
numbers to change the weather. You can't comprehend the massive scale
of the elements' power. No one man could handle it.
To change the environment itself--
Altrius: You'd need an act of God?
Selmer: They're not comfortable with such phrasing in Almeria.
Altrius: Really?
Selmer: It's not true of everyone, but in general, their goal is to solve all
the mysteries of the world. And that's the type of man who takes it
personally when you imply something can't be done by humans.
Altrius: So for better or worse, they're self-made men, eh?
Selmer: Exactly, Master Altrius... With the emphasis on "worse."
Altrius: ......
--- Marie & Rukia --- (And She'll Never Leave Him...)
Rukia: Wow!
Marie: What's the matter, Rukia?
Rukia: I wonder if this place was made by magic... I bet it'd be worth a lot
if you could figure it out.
Marie: Is attaining money always at the forefront of your thoughts, Rukia?
Rukia: It's who I am, that's all. If I ever stopped thinking about money, I
just wouldn't be me.
Marie: I see... Well, you're not wrong. You could undoubtedly make a great
deal of money if you were able to unlock this place's secrets. But I'd
say the only one who stands a chance at that is Master Arios.
Rukia: Is he that amazing?!? Maybe he and I should become a little closer...
Marie: I'm not one to pry into the business of others, but... I doubt it.
He has a lover.
Rukia: Seriously!?
Marie: Yes. Her name is Research.
--- Alicia & Margus --- (A Higher 'Ranking' Mission)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you speak to Margus before Kay.)
Alicia: With nothing but ice surrounding us, it's no surprise that I'm
freezing.
Margus: It didn't help that the last cave left us drenched in sweat...
Here, this might make you somewhat warmer. I apologize if it's a
little rank, though.
Alicia: Heheh... It smells like you.
Margus: Please don't say creepy things like that.
Alicia: I thought you liked women who talked that way.
Margus: Sure, but I don't need you to be that kind of woman. If you're going
to say such things, I'll just take that back.
Alicia: You're the one who told me to bundle up! Are you having second
thoughts?
Margus: Why so talkative suddenly...?
--- Alicia & Kay --- (Kay - Your Fashion Stylist)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation can only be accessed if you speak to Kay before Margus.)
Alicia: With nothing but ice surrounding us, it's no surprise that I'm
freezing.
Kay: Are you all right? If you want, I can ask Master Altrius to let us
rest.
Alicia: Are you saying I should stay behind and warm myself? Do I seem that
weak to you?
Kay: That's not...
Alicia: Hmph. Always so condescending. I can't believe you still treat me like
a helpless little girl, as if we were still children.
Kay: I'm more worried about you now than I ever was back then.
Alicia: ...Hmph.
Kay: In any case, if you're going to be on the front lines, you should wear
something a bit warmer. You don't want your bones to freeze in the
middle of a battle.
Alicia: R-Right.
... Stage 38 ...
----------------------------------
Sky of Lightning
----------------------------------
--- Shino & Izuna --- (Until Journey's End)
Izuna: Guess we won't be fighting with these guys much longer, huh?
Shino: If you're getting attached to them, you can stay a bit longer.
Izuna: Yeah, I guess... But nah, I don't think I will.
Shino: Why?
Izuna: Well, what's the point of going on a journey if you just settle down
like a lump?
Shino: Ah. Then we should stay focused until the end.
Izuna: Right!
--- Rukia & Alhambra --- (Poor Alhambra)
Rukia: Ooh, you're all fluffy. What happen--Eyouch!
Alhambra: Gotta warn you... it's probably best if you don't touch me.
All these sparks are making my fur stick up. I look ridiculous.
Rukia: But I bet you could hurt someone pretty bad if you gave 'em a bear
hug now. Thought about trying it?
Alhambra: If would hurt me too, you know...
--- Rukia & Elmer --- (Power of Lightning!)
Rukia: Thunder this time, huh? Amazing, Could you--Nah, it's impossible.
Elmer: What'd you say? Hey, how about giving me some credit for once?
Rukia: If something's impossible, that's that. I'm not crazy enough to hope
for a miracle here.
Elmer: Rrrrgh...
Rukia: Or can you do something after all? If you can, I owe you an apology.
Go for it, Elmer! Show me what you can do!
Elmer: Why you--You're doing this on purpose!
--- Alberich & Ernest --- (End of the Green Lions)
... NOTE ...
(This conversation will be triggered when either Alberich is about to attack
Ernest or vice-versa.)
Alberich: So, Ernest... you've lowered yourself to being a mere toady for
Mephreyu?
Ernest: You dare call ME a toady!? You couldn't be more wrong. I may serve
him now, but someday I will take the Darkness' power by force!
Alberich: That day will never come.
Ernest: What?
Alberich: The Darkness will be resealed by Sir Altrius' hand!
Ernest: Hahahah! Is that so? Go ahead and try, if you think you can!
--- Opening Conversations --- (Any Last Words...?)
Kay: I am Kay, a knight of Bretwalde... And I will have my revenge for
the death of Prince Serdic!
Margus: It's not like me to get serious, but... For this, I'll make an
exception!
Selmer: The spirits are trembling... Master, grant me strength...!
Sasha: To restore peace to my homeland of Shalem... I will defeat you@
Marie: Now, Altrius. Let us end this war.
Ansom: So this is the source of all evil. Well, I could settle for being
one who sealed the Darkness away.
Owl: I still have stuff I want to do here on earth... I won't let you
have your way, Mephreyu!
Cotton: I won't let you put the whole world to sleep!
Alhambra: Uch, my tail is tingling. What an irritating feeling.
Rukia: Well, there's nothing I can steal here... And if we don't end this
war, I'll never pry that sword loose from Altrius. Here goes
nothing!
Elmer: So this is the power the Holy King sealed away... Looks like I
finally got a worthy opponent!
Arios: What a waste to seal away such powerful magic... Alas, its very
existence is a blight on the world. I hate to do this, but we're
going to have to take it away.
Igraine: Only three years ago, I might have been on your side... But I have
Altrius now! I can't let you do this!
Shino: If you weren't a threat to the whole world, I wouldn't be so
inclined to intervene here.
Aegil: Is there anything we can do against power that fearsome...?
My God! My people! Lend me your strength...!
Yumiluna: Oh, dear, it wouldn't do at all to use that kind of power...
Simon: I pray this will be the last time I'm required to wield my sword
for Princess Marie's sake. Behold the strength of a knight of
Verona!
Izuna: I may not be the brightest babe around, but I know when a dude is
up to no good!
Galahad: I can sympathize, but for the Order's greater good, I'll stop you
here. No matter what.
Alicia: Master Altrius, please guide us with that Light!
Alberich: Mephreyu! Let the both of us be judged for all the blood we've
shed.
