PART I - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. What is Sketch?
A. Sketch is a mini-game found in Picross DS. To win, you must successfully
copy a picture onto a grid within a time limit.
Q. How do I unlock Sketch?
A. Sketch puzzles are unlocked by solving regular Picross puzzles.
Specifically, for each leveL you must solve puzzles F through J (the middle
row ) to unlock that level's Sketch puzzle. You do not need to worry about
other puzzles on that level, except as you need to complete a certain number
of puzzles total to unlock higher levels. After you have solved puzzles F
through J, a white exclamation point icon will appear to the right of
Puzzle J on your level screen. This indicates that the Sketch puzzle has been
unlocked. The icon will turn yellow after the puzzle has been successfully
completed.
Q. How do I play Sketch?
A. Start by tapping the exclamation point icon to the right of the Puzzle J
icon. A single tap will open up the top screen. From the top down, you will
see displayed:
- An announcement of your mode (normal or free)
_ The word "Sketch" and a Sketch puzzle icon
- Your level (1 through 10)
- Your best time. This is the time remaining on the timer after you have
finished the puzzle. It is shown in seconds to the one-hundredth of a second.
Tap the exclamation point icon a second time and you will start the puzzle.
The top screen will now show you the instructions for the puzzle, a picture
of the puzzle as it is to be completed, and the countdown timer. On the bottom
screen is a 13 x 13 grid. You'll see and hear a countdown, and then you are
ready to start!
Using your stylus as a pen, your job is to sketch onto the grid the picture
you see on the top. There are two variations on this. In normal mode, you
copy the picture within the time limit. In free mode, you must copy the
picture, but reverse the colors. So where the example shows white, your
finished picture must be blue, and vice versa.
The stylus works as an on-off switch on the puzzle squares: touch once, the
square turns blue; twice, it turns back to white; three times, back to blue,
etc.
Q. Where are the numbers?
A. There are no number clues. You must gauge visually where to sketch your
lines.
Q. Where are the Xs?
A. There are no Xs. Square will be either blue or white.
Q. Is it hard?
A. It can be tricky. On the more complicated puzzles, it can be hard to
figure out where to place your pixels. You also have to be careful not to
touch a pixel again once you've colored it in, or it will revert to
white. Also, the music starts playing more frenetically as your timer counts
down. If this makes you nervous, you might want to turn off the sound.
For the free mode puzzles, where you must reverse the colors, I'd recommend
starting by coloring the whole grid blue, then sketching in the drawing so it
turns white.
Of course, for those of you who have skillz, it will be no trouble at all. :)
Q. How many Sketch puzzles are there?
A. There are 20 - one each for Normal Mode levels 1-10, and one each for Free
Mode levels 1-10.
Q. What do I get for completing all the Sketch puzzles?
A. Well, when filling out your My Games list, you can't honestly say you've
"totally beaten" Picross DS unless you've completed all the mini-games,
including Sketch, can you? Aside from that, there is no reward as far as I
know.

PART II - THE PUZZLES
Note: All descriptive puzzle names are mine; the puzzles are not labeled in
the game. In some cases it was hard to figure out what a puzzle was supposed
to represent. These have a question mark at the end of the name. If you think
a puzzle should be labeled something else, please let me know. Of course I will
credit you if I use your puzzle name!

I'd like to thank Nintendo for finally releasing another Picross game, and
Jupiter Multimedia for making it such a good one. Thanks also to all the people
on the Picross DS board who have traded puzzles with me - you are so much more
talented than I! Finally, special thanks to Kranium, who gave me the idea for
this guide.
