*  Introduction to the Game (INT) *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"An untold tale of an age marked by time...
Far in the distant reaches of space, there is a planet
called ARKANOID.
Orbiting the planet are eight satellites,
each powered by the light of an alien hero.
It was to one of these satellites - dubbed ANANKE -
that the eight heroes gathered, summoned by a mysterious
transmission.
Suddenly, the heavens were torn by an enormous rift,
releasing invaders from another dimension.
Seven of the aliens were drawn into the rift, leaving one
hero, ANANKE, behind to face the invading horde."

This is the introduction into the game. Your quest is
pretty much self-explanatory then. Your mission is to rescue
your seven alien friends and defeat the aliens that have
invaded.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*   The Different Controls (CON)  *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The A button is used to select various things
(such as Shop, Options, Quest Mode, etc).

+Control Pad

Use the +Control Pad to move left and right.
The B button launches the ball and uses the
powerups Laser and Catch.
The L and R buttons increase your speed. Using
both of them simultaneously maximizes your speed.
Start button pauses the game

Stylus

Simply use the stylus to control your Vaus.
The down arrow on the +Control Pad launches your ball.
The B button does the same thing as the +Control Pad setup.
Start button pauses the game.

Paddle

This was only available in Japan but it does work with any
version of the game. It also works with DS Space Invaders Extreme.
Instead of using the stylus, you use the paddle. This is, I feel,
the way the game should be played but since it isn't easily
available outside of Japan that is just a dream.
The Down arrow on the +Control Pad and B button should still
function the same way but I am not entirely sure.
Start button pauses the game.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*       The Menu (GMMENU)         *

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*       Clear Game (CLR)          *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
This is truly the meat of the game. This is where you can set
your High Scores so they can be sent to the Rankings section
on Wi-Fi.

Before you start Clear Game though, you'll be asked a few
questions (you'll be asked these same questions everytime before
you begin Clear Game):

1) Which control scheme will you use? +Control Pad, Stylus, or
Paddle (Paddle will only appear if it's plugged into the
bottom part of your DS!)

2) How many barrier levels will there be? You can choose from 0 to 5.
Barrier Level 0 - 5000 point gain for you for each completed Round.
Barrier Level 1- 3000 point gain for you for each completed Round.
If the ball hits the barrier, you don't get any bonus points.
Barrier Level 2 - 2000 point gain for you for each completed Round.
If the ball hits the barrier, you don't get any bonus points.
Barrier Level 3- 1000 point gain for you for each completed Round.
If the ball hits the barrier, you don't get any bonus points.
Barrier Level 4 - 500 point gain for you for each completed Round.
If the ball hits the barrier, you don't get any bonus points.
Barrier Level 5- 100 point gain for you for each completed Round.
If the ball hits the barrier, you don't get any bonus points.

3) Difficulty? This determines the speed of the ball and its
acceleration rate. You can choose Easy, Medium, or Hard. As you
can guess, if you choose Hard, the ball's speed is faster, and so
is it's acceleration rate and vice-versa for Easy.

4) Quick Save Data: If you saved data during your last play through
either Clear Game or Uranoid, you'll be asked now if you
wish to re-load it. If you choose yes, you'll be brought to the
level you saved at (but the level will start anew). If you
choose no, you'll lose that data and start from A-1.

Pause (Start button):
Return to Game
Quick Save - Game will resume at start of this Round when loaded
next time. Save game? No/Yes
Quit - Returning to Select Mode menu. Okay? No/Yes

****IMPORTANT****
Before I get into the Zones and such, let me tell you some things
about Pause and Quick Save:
1) Never, I repeat, NEVER Pause when you hit the last block in the
stage. This will cause the game to freeze when you attempt
to resume your game. This may have happened to me solely because
the last block had a capsule in it but my game did freeze so
as a precaution, never Pause when you've beaten a Round.
2) If you chose, let's say, a Barrier Level 1 to be set up and
then you Quick Saved. The next time you turn on the game and
attempt either Clear Game or Uranoid (depending on which one
you Quick Saved in), you'll be asked the 4 questions from above.
If you choose a new Barrier level, let's say, Barrier Level 0
(we chose Level 1 the first time), the Barrier Level will now
be 0.
3) You can Quick Save in both Clear Game and Uranoid simultaneously.
4) There is a trick with Quick Save that will allow you to beat the
game without ever dying. Well, I shouldn't say you won't
die, but your points will be preserved as well as the Round you are
at. That should be enough hints to figure out on your own
what it is and how to do it.

You automatically start off in Zone 1, and after 5 Rounds, you can
then select to go to either B or C. Then after you've
beaten those, you can select what Zone you'd like to go to again.
These are done as forked paths though. You can't go from
B to F. See the figure below.

Z' V  W  X  Y  Z  V' (7) Deimos
\/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/
 P  Q  R  S  T  U   (6) Idana
  \/ \/ \/ \/ \/
   K  L  M  N  O    (5) Operon
   \/  \/ \/ \/
    G  H  I  J      (4) Neith
     \/ \/ \/
      D  E  F       (3) Artemis
       \/ \/
        C  B        (2) Kronos
         \/
          A         (1) Rhea

That may not be the best looking picture, but you get the idea I'm
sure. You'll always only have the choice of either left or right.

When you get to the 7th and last Zone (Z', V, W, X, Y, Z, V') you'll
be encountered with a rescue-type Round at the 5th Round. Hit the blue
goo that surrounds the Vaus numerous times (about 50 times) to rescue
your friend!

Z' - Neith - Red Alien
V - Rhea - Orange Alien
W - Operon - Blue Alien
X - Deimos - Yellow Alien
Y - Kronos - Aqua Alien
Z - Idana - Pink Alien
V' - Artemis - Green Alien

Those are your alien friends' locations throughout the 7th Zone in the
5th Round.

Reward Points:

You get a Reward Point for every 300 points you earn in the game.
You can use Reward points to purchase various things in the game.
I'll go over what you can buy in the Options Section.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*         Uranoid (URD)           *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
To unlock Uranoid (in non-Japan versions), you must complete Clear Game
entirely (or rescue all of your friends, it's not known which is true).

Like Clear Game, you are asked the same four questions from above.
Everything works EXACTLY the same as Clear Game. No need to repeat myself
so refer to the above section for everything.

The 7 Zones are separated as follows:

Eta Theta Iota   (7) Deimos
  \  |  /
   Zeta         (6) Idana
     |
  Epsilon       (5) Operon
     |
   Delta        (4) Neith
     |
   Gamma        (3) Artemis
     |
    Beta        (2) Kronos
     |
   Alpha        (1) Rhea

As you can see, you'll have to go through Uranoid three times before
completely finishing it. There are no rewards immediately for completing
Uranoid BUT you'll need to unlock everything for Quest Game to reap the
rewards of Uranoid and to do that, you need to complete Uranoid entirely.

In the 7th Zone, 5th Round you'll come across a boss that you must defeat.
Only the sphere at the top of their head hurts them. Hit it enough times
to defeat the boss. Learn the patterns of his movements and aim properly
when he is still. Hitting his hands/arms as he is still will cause him to
react in some way. The 3 of them react differently.

Eta's Boss:
A Black colored machine alien who starts to move on first contact and
eventually will stop in the middle of the top screen. When you hit his arm,
one arm goes in and the other comes out.

Woohoo, took me just 28 seconds in Quest Game to beat him (ball got stuck
hitting him about 20 times at the top!).

Theta's Boss:
A White colored machine alien who starts to move on first contact and will
eventually stop in the middle of the top screen and stretch his arms out
depending on what arm the ball hits. I myself am still a little unsure of
the arm pattern.

Iota's Boss:
A Yellow colored machine alien who is actually still at first. After a few
hits though, he'll begin to actually dance wildly across the screen.
Honestly, I think he's the easiest since you can get the ball stuck up
top hitting the sphere and he'll mostly have his hands hit the ball back
up into the sphere. I myself took only 39 seconds to beat him in Quest Game.

Reward Points:

Works the exact same way as Clear Game.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*        Quest Game (QST)         *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Quest Game is where you have to complete missions in set times or launches
to beat it. You unlock Rounds here by beating them in Clear Game and Uranoid.

Pause (Start button):
Return to Game
Retry - Restart this Round? No/Yes
Change Objective - Returning to Objective. Okay? No/Yes
Quit - Returning to Select Mode menu. Okay? No/Yes

Objective: Mission to be completed in the Round you choose to go to.
Norm: A Norm is how many blocks you need to destroy. I won't include this in
a Round that says "Destroy x Blocks." No reason
to.
Time Limit/Ball Launch Limit: Time Limit is a set time to complete the mission
in while a Ball Launch Limit is how many times the ball can leave the Vaus. In
Ball Launch Limit Rounds, if there is a barrier, you can use the barrier to
reflect the ball back up and it won't count against your Ball Launch Limit.
Keep that in mind!!
Point Reward: If you complete the objective in the set
time/launches, you will be awarded a certain amount of
points (based on the level). These points are your Reward
Points and like I stated above, can be used to puchase
various things.

to have the ball launch back at an equal angle and then go back to the left
wall and just sit there. The ball finishes the rest. Refer to diagram below:
Diagram: This is how the blocks are set up when looking at one row. 3 blocks,
a space, 3 blocks, a space, and 3 more blocks across given a total of 11
columns in this stage. When launching from left wall, you'll want to have
the center of your Vaus lined up with the 1st block in the 3rd section
(7th block in the row)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*          VS Com (VRS)           *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
In this Mode, you can verse the Computer in 2 different modes.
Those modes are Bust All and Bust Color.

You'll be asked which control method you are using (Stylus, +Control Pad,
or Paddle), Barrier Level (o, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), Computer level (1-8), and
number of matches (1, 3, 5).

Pause (Start button):
Return to Game
Quit - Returning to Select Mode menu. Okay? No/Yes

Clear - You completed the Round before the opponent
100 pts

Survived - Your opponent missed the ball without any Barriers remaining
100 pts

Failed - You missed the ball without any Barriers remaining
0 pts

Lose - Your opponent completed the Round before you
0 pts

At the conclusion of a Match you'll be asked the following and be
able to choose one:

Continue Game - Continue to another Match against the same opponent
with the same rules.

Change Rules - Brings you back to the screen where you select
Bust All and Bust Color.

Match Over - Brings you back to the Select Mode screen

Regardless of how many matches you choose or what level or barrier
or even what mode, you get the same amount of points.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*      Multiplayer (MLTPLR)       *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
You can play against others nearby you who either have or don't have
the game! Just have the other players go to Download Play when they
turn on their DS and wait for the Host to open up a room.

You'll be asked to either Host or Join (if you are the only one with
a card or if there is more than 1 card). If you Host, you can decide
when to close the room (by pressing A).

Like Vs Com, you'll get 100 points for Clearing or Surviving but what's
different is you'll get 50 points instead of 0 points if you Fail or Lose.
Pretty sweet if you ask me.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*     Nintendo Wi-Fi (NWIFI)      *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
When you head to the Nintendo Wi-Fi option on the Menu screen, you'll be
taken to a page where you can either head online to verse either random
people or friends (Nintendo WFC Match), check out how you rank and even
earn Reward Points based on where you rank (Nintendo WFC Rankings), grab
your Friend Code (FC) and add friends to your Friend List (Friend Setup)
and setup your connection (Nintendo WFC Setup).

When you get to Nintendo WFC Match and manage to get online you can do
a couple of things:

1) Open Match
2) Friend Match

In both of those, you can do a Bust All or Bust Color. You can also do
this as a 1 vs 1 match for a 4-way free-for-all.

You also notice that you have WiFi Ranking. You automatically start at
5000 and go up 10 when you win and down 10 if you lose. If you disconnect
though, you suffer a 100 point loss. Only ratings are recorded here. You
can't Pause the game or go into Sleep Mode.

You are awarded 100 points for a win and 50 points for a loss.

As per Nintendo WFC Rankings, they are determined by your high score in
either Clear Game or Uranoid (whichever is higher). From what I have seen,
Uranoid won't grant you a high enough score to get in top 10 now.

As per Friend Setup, you have your Friend Roster that has the last time
you played your friend along with their friend code. You can add up to 30
friends. If you attempt to add a 31st friend, the first friend on your roster
will be deleted. To delete a friend, just go to your Friend Roster, press X,
and confirm that you wish to delete them. Under that, you can register Friend
Codes. Just enter the 12 digit code and that's about it! And lastly, you can
verify, or check, your own Friend Code to give to people.

Just as a side note, online play is relatively dead, which is sad really.
You'll almost never get a 4-player match going.

It's a shame this game isn't more popular as it's actually quite fun.

Oh, and there is also Nintendo WFC Setup. I won't be going over that as your
connection should be established already.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*         Results (RSTS)          *

This Menu option shows your current Reward Points
and what ranking you are at
as of the last time you uploaded that score.
You also see your five highest Clear Game
scores and Uranoid scores, the amount
of games you played against the computer in
VS mode along with the amount of wins
you have and win percentage in both Bust All
and Bust Color. You also can see your
Multiplayer record in Bust All and Bust Color
(games, wins, win %) and even your
Nintendo WFC Rating along with your combined
record against your friends (again,
games, wins, win %) in both Bust All and Bust Color.

3) Decoration:
a) Zone Decoration - You can set the Background, Frame,
Block, and Block Sound Effect right in here by Zone.
I really wish you could re-use backgrounds and the
like. It's a shame you can't.
b) Select Vaus - Simply, you can select which Vaus
you wish to use in Clear Game, Quest Game, and
Uranoid. It will only use this Vaus in those modes.
c) Select BGM - You can select the Background Music
for each Satellite here.
d) Decoration Default - Want to trash everything?
Use this option and you're done!!
It resets everything to the way it was as if you
just opened the game up.

4) Initialize Save Data:
Stay away from this. It deletes all your data.
Only use if you wish to restart your
game. This option scares me a lot.

Whew, well, that is everything from the Options Menu.
Now that we're done with everything we can end this...
oh wait, we still have some other things to go over
and credits to give out and some other juicy stuff!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*      Miscellaneous (MISCS)      *
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Here I will go over everything that didn't quite fit
elsewhere. This is probably one of the more important
sections in this FAQ so I recommend you read this part
in its entirety. You may learn something!

"Advanced" Tactic (Moving Launch):
Moving the Vaus as the ball makes contact with it will
change the direction of the ball. Believe it or not, you
can make the ball move at very close to a 90 degree angle
(but not a perfect line!). It depends on how the ball is
coming towards the Vaus on how you should move the Vaus
as the ball touches it so that the direction can change
in your favor. Experiment to see what fits you nicely
and get a nice feel for it. Careful though, if your
accuracy is bad, you may miss the ball and forfeit your
precious life!

Block, Capsule, and other Points:
Yes, believe it or not, the colors of a Block affect
how many points you get when hitting one. The breakdown
is as follows:

Block --- Point Value --- Notes
_______________________________
White ---      50     --- None
Orange --      60     --- None
Aqua  ---      70     --- None
Green ---      80     --- None
Red   ---      90     --- None
Blue  ---     100     --- None
Pink  ---     110     --- None
Yellow --     120     --- None
Silver --     200     --- Takes 2 hits to destroy.
                         First hit grants 0 points.
Only the second hit awards points.
Gold  ---       0     --- Cannot be destroyed.

Capsules - All Capsules are worth the same amount of points
which is 1000 points.

Speaking of Capsules, here is a complete list of all of
them in the game:

B - Barrier - Green - Adds 1 Level to the Barrier. If
you have no Barrier, you will gain a Level 1 Barrier.
If, for example, you have a Barrier Level of 0 and
get this Capsule and the ball hits the Barrier (during
Clear Game or Uranoid), you will NOT gain the Barrier
Bonus at the end of the Round. So, do remember that.

C - Catch - Light Green - This acts as the Glue powerup
from previous games. The ball latches to you and you
release it by pressing the B button or down on the +Control
Pad.

D - Disruption - Light Blue - This adds two additional
brown balls into the mix of things. These balls do not
count against you if they get passed you or hit your Barrier.
They can't reflect off the Barrier though and will disintergrate
upon contact. Also, no other Capsules will come down while one
of the brown balls is still on-screen. So, for high score purposes,
get this Capsule (if you can spare it) and then let the brown
balls fall to their doom. If you're in Multiplayer or VS, let this
powerup help save the day for you.

E - Expand - Blue - Your Vaus' size increases. You can get
multiple Capsules of this but you won't expand any further.

L - Laser - Red - By pressing the B button or down on the
+Control Pad you will fire a laser shot from both ends of
your Vaus. This will destroy any block upon contact (with
exception to Silver which requires two shots and Gold which
does nothing). You seem to only be able to fire two shots at
a time and then need a small rest period. Keep that in mind.
Also, when you get a 2nd Laser Capsule, your power will increase
and as such you can destroy a whole column of Blocks with one
shot. Even Silver Blocks won't stand a chance against this upgrade
but sadly, Gold Blocks stand tall and proud even against a mighty
weapon such as this one.

M - Megaball - Pink - The ball takes on a new color, green,
and begins to leave a green trail behind it. It can go right
through any Block that stands in its way, besides the Gold Block.
One of the best powerups in the game in my opinion.

R - Reduction - Silver - This reduces your Vaus' size by half
which can potentially be very bad EXCEPT the amount of points
from Blocks now doubles. This is a great item if you're going
for high scores.

S - Slow - Orange - It simply decreases the speed of the ball.

V - Vanish - Light Silver - This is one of the more interesting
powerups. When you acquire it and hit anything but a Silver or
Gold Block with your ball, all Blocks of the same color disappear.
If your ball hits a Silver Block, all Silver Blocks act as if they
have been hit once. If you hit a Gold Block, you lose the ability
of this powerup. You only get the points for the initial Block you
hit while you have this powerup and don't get the points of all
the other Blocks that are vanquished with this powerup so keep
that in mind while playing for a high score. Just as a side note,
you CAN still knock out a Capsule but only from the initial Block
you hit. You won't get any powerups from any of the other Blocks
that are destroyed via this powerup.

W - Warp - Gold - You clear the current Round. Yipee!! Too bad
it's no good to you if you're going for a high score unless you
have five Blocks left or something.

Match Only Capsules:

These capsules are all a dark gray coloring.

H - Hard - 3-5 Silver Blocks are added to your opponent(s)
screen as a gift.

I - Increase - 3-5 Normal Blocks (of any color) are added
to your opponent(s)
screen as a gift.

R - Reduction - Shrinks your opponent(s) Vaus size by half.

S - Slow - Slows down the speed of the ball for your opponent(s).

Just something to know about Capsules is that their abilities
last until another one is acquired, until you complete a Round,
or until you lose.

There is also a 1000 point gain each time you hit the goo
surrounding your friends' Vaus and 1000 point gain each time
you hit the sphere on top of the Alien Machine's head.

Unlockables:

We've already gone over how to unlock Uranoid and everything
in Quest Game so what else is there to unlock? Oh, right, there
is a gift for you when you finally beat Clear Game, Uranoid, and
all of Quest Game:

Geometric Background (BG) - 7 of them are unlocked, A-G
Metal Frame - Similar to the Frame from NES Arkanoid
Twin Block - A square Block split into an upper and lower rectangle
equal in size
Vaus Paddle - The exact one from the original Arkanoid on NES

Pretty sweet, right? I think so.

Well, that is everything. Now onto the Credits!!

Credit of this goes COMPLETELY to VGMdb. This link
http://vgmdb.net/db/albums.php?id=5477 brings you straight
to where I got this information. I am not claiming it to be my
own, it's theirs!! I'm saving you the time of searching and waiting
through the credits of the game to see this information.

More credit goes to Taito and SquareEnix for making a pretty good
game. I am quite happy with this game and although there are a few
problems here and there (like Gold locks for instance and lack of a
Paddle like what Japan got for example) the game is still very
enjoyable. Thanks!!

Credit to kewlmreynolds for saying I should write an FAQ in the
first place otherwise I may not have done it.
Credit to Lei_Trigar for stealing my hopes and dreams of being
#1 in the Rankings.
Credit to bama777, themeanman856, kewlmreynolds, Lei_Trigar,
for successfully getting 4-player matches to work on Wifi (lol!).
Credit to EastX for his work on his FAQ and saving me some
typing (you think I
really wanted to type out all the names of the Shop items? haha).
Credit to stonedbeyondblef for telling me about the tip for J-2
(which I ended up using in other scenarios as well).
Credit to Burn-X for notifying me that I somehow forgot to include
the Game Menu section. I feel silly for missing it.

That's all the credits I can think of. If I missed someone or
something somehow, check down below to reach me.

Well, there we are, FINALLY! This was my first FAQ I have ever
done so there is bound to be mistakes. Please email me if you
see something that is incorrect and I will fix is ASAP. Or, you
can suggest something to me as well and you may just see it here!
Same goes if I missed something, shoot me an email and it'll be
added and credit will be posted where it is due.

My email address is: [email protected]

You can also leave a post on the forum if you wanted to, I won't
stop you and I check there fairly often anyway.
