1. Introduction
This game has a glitch where the time stops and you're free to race at your own
pace. This makes some maps easy to complete and also allows you to do huge
screw-ups in the next maps, if played a series.
2. Where can I do this glitch and how?
This is done at the start, AUTO-DRIVE is on action and you pass the line, press
"START" quickly when you have very little time. Some maps allow you to have as
much as about 00:00:40, it changes with the track and version of the track. If
you fail, just start over. If you are playing series and you fail, better to go
on with it. This is convenient in Tournaments, especially in Heat 3 level, and
especially when your car has quirky handling.
NOTE: Good indicator for this to work is if the timer starts when AUTO - DRIVE
is still in 1. This usually guarantees the time stop.
3. Time Stop Races
These races are where the thing works (tested with PAL, if NTSC differs, let me
know, will you?) and was done like this: initial try to stop the clock, if that
showed no results, repeating with a lower time until lowest possible time. All
successes are here:
3.1 Tournament
Ford Explorer XLT 1996:
Heat 1/3 Track 2/2: Olympic Village FWD
Heat 2/3 Track 2/3: Newtown Expressway FWD
Heat 2/3 Track 3/3: Olympic Village FWD
Heat 3/3 Track 3/3: Forest Fields FWD
Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 1995:
Heat 1/3 Track 1/2: Red Rock Canyon FWD
Heat 1/3 Track 2/2: Olympic Village FWD
Heat 2/3 Track 1/3: Red Rock Canyon FWD
Heat 2/3 Track 2/3: Midnight Highway FWD
Heat 2/3 Track 3/3: Olympic Village FWD
Heat 3/3 Track 3/3: Harbor View FWD
NOTE: Some of these tracks are lenient, allowing you to get near half a second,
others allow 4 hundredths only.
NOTE: If you fail and are in 2nd or 3rd race of the heat, don't bother trying
again, because RESTART option starts you at the beginning of race 1.
NOTE: I'd like to point out that try to drive as good as you can even when this
isn't active, because it's not the lowest overall time which wins, it's the one
with the highest amount of points. This means you can have lowest time and
still lose.
3.2 Single Race
These are all maps and variations where this works. If you can't get one to
work, change your vehicle. Both normal vehicles and secret vehicles apply. Laps
won't interfere with this at all.
I'd like to note that this doesn't work on things where you start from a
standstill.
NEW!
If you use some hacking methods, you can access the 2 Player Stages and the
Test Track in Single Race mode. In here you can stop the time in:
2 Player Stage 1 REV, Mirrored REV
2 Player Stage 2 REV, Mirrored REV
2 Player Stage 3 FWD, REV, Mirrored REV
2 Player Stage 4 Mirrored REV
Test Track FWD + REV, Mirrored FWD + Mirrored REV
