1.INTRO
You must be asking "Why is he writing a FAQ about Ex. Kim when CvS2 is
coming out soon." My answer to the question is; some people can't play CvS2
in the arcade so they're forced to practice on a home system. CvS2 can only
be imported right now (10-27-01) and so you have to practice CvS1. And some
people still play the original CvS1. And to practice your CvS2 Kim you have
to know Extra and regular Kim from CvS1 first. And Kim, Ken, and Sagat are
my favorite characters too.
Now some things about Kim...
EX Kim costs 3,000 points (well worth it imo). Kim is a Tae Kwon Do master
and appeared in the King of Fighters and Fatal Fury series. He was apart of
the Korean team along with Chang and Choi. Kim is trying to turn the two
into model citizens (Good luck... ;P ). He is married and has two sons named
Kim Dang Hwan and Kim Jae Hoon. For some reason Kim doesn't look Korean or
Asian either (but Ryu don't look Japanese either).
Here are some of his personal stats:
---Kim Kaphwan---
Place of Birth: Korea
Fighting Style: Tae Kwon Do
Age: 30 (I guess he was born around 1971-1972)
DOB: December 21
Blood Type: A
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 78 kg
Hobby: Karaoke
Good Sports: Aerobic Exercises
Favorite Food: Roasted Meat
Important Thing: His Wife and Two Sons

3.Moves
=============================================================================
lp lightpunch or jab
=============================================================================
Standing- A poke that has okay range, nothing you never seen before, this can
be a combo starter.
Jumping-The jumping lp stays in the same animation throughout the whole jump
so your in attack mode while in the whole jump. But it's not worth using,
since you have J.HP or J.HK.
Crouching-This move has okay range, but this move can be blocked by a
standing back as well as crouching back.
=============================================================================
Hp hard punch or fierce
=============================================================================
Standing-Even though you use HP it's a kick. Comes out faster than S.HK but
Kim doesn't move while using it. This move is punishable.
Jumping-Regular Kim could combo off this into a super but not EX Kim. So
this move is not useful since you can use J.HK, but don't totally forget
about it. You can combo off of this into ground-based attacks. And this is
also a kick move.
Crouching-This is your Anti-Air attack and comes out quick. Use this when
you don't have time to use the Sand blaster kick or Phoenix Kick Tornado.
This move is punishable if whiffed. And it suffers from bad range. Once
again a HP is a kick, go figure.
=============================================================================
Lk light kick or short
=============================================================================
Standing-At close range it comes out high (about head range) but form mid to
far range it comes out mid-range. This move is not useful since it can't
combo into.
Jumping-This move does not have the priority as J.HK so this move is not
useful. It also doesn't hit crouching people. It also doesn't have good
horizontal reach either.
Crouching- Your basic poke. Use this to start your combos, it comes out
quick and can't be punished. It's also very annoying.
=============================================================================
Hk hard kick or roundhouse
=============================================================================
Standing-This is just like S.HP but Kim moves toward while using this move.
Toward+HK is an overhead attack so it'll take care of those turtling players
(but don't over use this).
Jumping-Very good move since it has range and priority beats out the other
jumping moves. You can combo off of this into ground-based attacks. You can
also use this as a cross-up.
Crouching-This is Kim's best weapon; It comes out lighting quick and has
great priority. Always stay in c.HK range while playing Kim. Use this often
it'll annoy the hell out of the other person.
=============================================================================
Taunt lk+start button
=============================================================================
Use this to ice a win and to show off your EX Kim superiority. Kim shrugs
his shoulders his shoulders and says something. I guess he's saying "What's
the matter you?" or "Uh-Oh Spaghetti O's!" or maybe "Oops I
Crapped my pants!" Roflmao.
=============================================================================
Roll lp+lk
=============================================================================
This is a very good move but it doesn't go as far as other characters' rolls.
It goes through projectiles, physical moves, gets you to the other side, and
it maintains your charge. Here is his statistics for this move. The stats
below go in chronological order meaning its starts when you hit lp+lk.
Kim/160/1/24/5
Kim= EX and Normal Kim
160=how many pixels long it is.
1=invulnerable frame(can't be hit at all)
24=Invincible frames (but still able to be thrown out of roll)
5=Vulnerable frames (Can be hit by all attacks)
Thx to the shoryuken.com forums/gamedata for the stats and whoever came up
with the stats.
=============================================================================
Throw toward+HP or HK
=============================================================================
Use this out of a dash (toward, toward) or a roll for best result, because
they won't see it coming. The HP version is an overhead throw, while the HK
version is sort of like a grapple. Mash on HK version to take maximum damage
It also looks cooler than the HP version.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CvS<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
4.Special Moves
=============================================================================
Crescent Moon Slice/ Hangetsu Zan QCB+K 2hits
=============================================================================
OUCH >_<! How does he do the splits like that? But otherwise this is a very
good move to use. It lets you get close and keeps the pressure on the
opponent. Lk version doesn't travel as far and slower than HK version. The
LK version only hits people close and mid-close while the HK version hits Mid
to Mid-far. And remember DON'T TRY TO USE THIS MOVE AS AN ANTI-AIR. Another
flaw is you can't combo into this move and it has some recovery time lag.
But don't forget about this nut-buster move. lol
=============================================================================
Flying Kick/ Hishou Kyaku QCF+K (in air) LK=1-3hits HK=1-5hits
=============================================================================
Use this move to confuse people and to keep them on their toes. Use
SJ.xxFlying kick to really confuse people. And another tip use sj. Backwards
and if they follow use the HK version to hit them in mid-air. The LK version
travels at a steeper angle than the HK so keep that in mind when using this
attack. Don't try to base your game around this move either.
=============================================================================
Sand Blaster/ Air Grit/ Kuu Sajin CD,U+K LK=2hits HK=3hits
=============================================================================
This is one of your best offensive weapons, since it acts like an anti-air
and is easy to combo into. Combo it off of c.lk or c.lp. I advise you use
HK version. Not as quick as you would hope but it gets the job done.
=============================================================================
Spirit of Conquest Kick/ Ambition Kick/ Haki Kyaku d,d+K 1hit
=============================================================================
This move is also known as ultimate bug squasher kick. This move serves
little purpose and it is punishable and it also takes some damage. And you
can't change stances in the EX version. But it could also double as a taunt.
* I stamp my foot in defiance at you * hehe :P
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>EX Kim<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
5.Super Combos
=============================================================================
Phoenix Flattener/ Phoenix Kick/ Hou'ou Kyaku QCB,DB,T+K
lvl.1=14hits lvl.2=16 hits lvl.3=17hits
=============================================================================
This super combo is your main weapon to punish mistakes. It's quick, hits
people on ground or air, comboable, and goes through projectiles. The
Phoenix Flattener has a few frames of invulnerability at the start and those
few frames allow you to go through projectiles. It's also good eye candy.
=============================================================================
Pheonix Kick Tornado/ Heavenly Phoenix Kick Dance/ Hou'ou Hiten Kyaku QCFx2+K
1hit
=============================================================================
This is going to be your combo starter super combo. It can also double as an
anti-air super combo. It has the same animation as the C.HK so you have to
be close to get it to connect. It is easier to combo off the HK version than
the LK version. This is Kim's best Super Combo especially because it's easy
to combo into and off of it. Unlike the phoenix flattener, its not eye
candy.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CvS<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
6.Combomania
1.LK,LK,LKxxSandblaster
2.LK,LK,LKxxlvl.1,2,3Phoenix Kick Tornado
3.LK,LK,LKxxlvl.1,2,3Phoenix Flattener
4.lvl.2 or 3 Phoenix Kick Tornado-> Sand Blaster
5.lvl.2 or 3 Phoenix Kick Tornado-> Crescent Moon Slice
6.lvl.2 Phoenix Kick Tornado-> lvl.1 Phoenix Flattener
7.lvl.2 Phoenix Kick Tornado-> lvl.1 Phoenix Kick Tornado
8.Lvl.3 Phoenix Kick Tornado-> Lvl.1 Phoenix Flattener (SNK GROOVER ONLY)
9.lvl.2 or 3 Phoenix Kick Tornado-> S.lk or S.hk or S.hp or C.lp or S.lp
10.C.LK, C.LP, C.LK, C.HK
Tips
Feel free to interchange any LK to a LP.
And you can combo the beginning LP and LK off of a J.HP, J.HK., and J.LP.
Combos 1-3: do the LKs very fast to get all three kicks in.
Combo 3: I find it easier to change the last LK to a LP (so you don't
accidentally do a crescent moon slice while trying to pull off the super)
Combos 4-8: Remember you can combo these off of LPs and LKs and wait for the
opponent to fall a little to get maximum hits and damage.
Combo 9: Don't use this combo unless you don't have a super meter or you
didn't charge for the Sand Blaster.
Combo 10: This combo is more of a link since it takes good timing to execute
and its not as useful as you think either.

7.Strategies
A.Why use EX Kim-I believe EX Kim Is better than regular Kim because EX Kim
is more offensive while regular Kim was more of a turtler. EX Kim Lost the
Super Phoenix Kick (QCF, HCB+K) but gains the Phoenix Kick Tornado; which I
think is better. EX Kim has all the weapons you would need except for a
projectile, but he makes up for that by having three solid anti-airs attacks.
EX Kim is an Intermediate character, so you have to have little or some
experience with Kim or fighting games to play him effectively. He also has
some crazy mind games. Overall EX Kim is a balanced and deadly fighter.
B.Grooves- You should use Capcom groove EX Kim. It gives him the assurance
of super combos to back him up. But SNK groove EX Kim is not a bad decision
either, especially since he has that lvl.3 combo.
C.Strats-The combination of winning is simple; you need Control and
Execution, keep those in mind when playing. Also play patiently. EX Kim is
very offensive orientated and he also makes a lot of noise (lol). He is also
very good with screwing with your opponent's head. Stay in sweep range and
keep attacking. Use his Phoenix Flattener to punish whiffed moves and
projectiles. And if anyone tries to jump on you then you have many options
on what you can do and they'll be in a world of pain. And use the Phoenix
Kick tornado (QCFx2+K) often as an anti-air as much as you can, and follow it
with some of the combos listed above for some easy damage against the
opponnet. It'll take away their air game, keeping them on the ground.
Therefore giving EX Kim the advantage. Use his Flying Kick to confuse them
and keep the pressure on. Stick to his B&B combo of LKx3xxSandblaster to
keep them in their place. And use the C.HK often and do I mean often. And
here's my little trick, when your at mid-range (you could also dash backwards
if your at close range to get to optimum range) from your opponent whiff a
c.lk or c.hk and cancel it into a Crescent Moon Slice, they should take the
bait and move toward you and get it by the Slice. It sounds stupid but it
works, and don't use it to often because any veteran will punish you if they
figure out what your doing. His worst match-ups in my opinion is the shotos
and guile, because of their ability to control space very well. So watch out
for them and play more cautiously than normal. And remember to keep Using EX
Kim's mind games.
D. How not to play EX Kim- Don't turtle, Don't base your game around doing
the same move over and over ex.crescent moon slice, Don't waste your supers,
and don't play wildly.
