Section 1.00 ABOUT THIS FAQ search.about
·=============================================================================·
I was looking through a bunch of my older games and was wondering to myself
why I didn't write any FAQs for these classics. So I decided to write a
guide for one of my favorites. Then I noticed that Atari 2600 was missing
guides to many many games, so I have made it my duty to get as many good
FAQs out there as I can for this classic, yet overlooked system.

·---------------------------------------·
This is my first attempt at using the search function implemented in one of
my FAQs. You will notice that my each major section and subsection there
will be the term search followed by ".xxx". This can be used to help
navigate the FAQ easier. If you would like to skip ahead to one section,
then simply use the Find function of the computer (Ctrl + F) and type the
command listed. You should skip strait to where you would like to go.

This is the first version of the FAQ. In just about all cases it will
also be the last version. I have explored the game as thouroughly as I
think is necessary to write a complete walkthrough, and due to the
nature of the system, there generally are no hidden extras to be missed.

·=============================================================================·
Unlike just about every other Mario game in the world, in this version of
Mario Bros. the manual calls him Mario the Carpenter. Anyway, Mario (and
his brother, Luigi in two player modes) noticed that there are bugs all
throughout their basement pipes. So being the handymen that they are, they
decide to go down there and check it out. Every few seconds, there will be
a bug that will come out of a pipe. You will want to jump up and hit the
floor in which they are walking to knock them over. Once you do that jump
up and kick them to rid yourself of these terrible creatures.

_______________
Mario and Luigi
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
I'll tell you what, if you do not know who Mario and Luigi are at this
point in your life, this FAQ isn't going to help you out very much.
___________
Bonus Wafer
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
On top of getting the points from kicking an enemy after knocking them
on their back, there will also be a wafer that comes out of either of
the top two pipes. Picking these icons up will give you a nice little
boost in points.
___________
Bonus Coins
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
There are some levels in the game where instead of enemies there will
be coins. Your goal for those levels in to pick up as many coins as
possible in the time limit. Each coin gives you points, and if you can
pick up all of the coins, then you will get a nice bonus prize of 5000
points the first time and 8000 each subsequent time.
_________
POW Block
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This bad boy can come in quite handy during times when there are many
enemies, and very little room to breath, or to play a creul practical
joke on your friend. Whenever you hit this block, all of the enemies
will flip over onto their backs, and those that were already on their
backs will now go over to their feet. You only get three per level, so
use them wisely.
·---------·
Enemies
·---------·
_____________
Shellcreepers
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The shellcreeper is a turtle. They are the easiest enemy in the game to
beat. They will only move in a strait line on the ground at all times.
The only time when they are not on the ground is when they drop down to
the platform below them. After which time they travel in the opposite
direction from which they just came. This simple enemy is easily
avoided by jumping over it and is killed by jumping into the platform
below it just one time.
____________
Sidesteppers
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The sidesteppers are crabs. They are slightly harder to beat than the
shellcreepers, but will give you no real hastle if you simply pay
somewhat close attention. They too will travel in a strait line and
stay on the ground at all times except when falling down to the
platform below, and again after falling, they will go in the opposite
direction. Unlike the turtles the sidesteppers take two hits to knock
on their back, so be careful.
____________
Fighterflies
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The fighterflies are actually fireflies. They are the second hardest
enemy to kill due to the fact that they do not stay on the ground at
all times. They hop in the same direction, but land periodically on the
ground only to jump again. Don't worry, they jump in a pattern, so it
won't be too difficult to kill them. Like the turtle, it only takes one
hit to knock them on their back.
_______
Slipice
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Slipice is a different kind of enemy than the other three. He is a snow
man that walks around the level. Be careful though, when he stops, he
melts and freezes the ground in which he rests making it next to
impossible to control your character. To kill slipice, simply hit him
from underneath one time, and you do not have to kick him. He just goes
away. Get it?! SlipIce... Get it!
_________
Fireballs
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
If there is one thing in the game that makes it difficult, it would be
these fireballs. They are balls of fire that materialize out of nowhere
go across the screen one time and then go away. If you see one of
these, run away and drop down or jump up to another level - it will
kill you instantly. Stay away from these.
Here is a basic map of all of the levels in the game. Due to the fact that
there will not be a need for much strategy for evey level, I find that a
simple table will suffice. All of the levels after level 014 will be
repeats of one of the previous levels, and yes, the levels go on infinitly.
Basically, you need a bunch of panience to get really far in this game.
·--------------------------·
Game Plans - search.game
·--------------------------·
There are a few different things that you can do during the game for a game
plan. The first things that I will discuss are those relating to the two-
player mode of play.
·------------·
Man v. Man
·------------·
The first thing that comes to my mind is trying to beat your oppenents
score and out live him. If you want to do this, you will have to be
skilled offensivly and in tactical back-stabbery.
If you really want to make your friend mad, wait until he turns an enemy
upside down, and then quickly outrun them to get the kick for yourself.
Another thing to do is wait for them to get right next to an enemy they
want to kick and jump into a POW block, sending the enemy right side up
and killing them. Similarly, you could simply jump beneeth the enemy to
have the same effect.
However, if you are going to play dirty, you must also expect your enemy
to play dirty also. Be contsantly aware of where and what your enemy is
doing. If they are near a POW block, wait for them to leave that spot to
kick an enemy, or if they are below you, don't try to kick one either.
·------------------·
Man & Man v. CPU
·------------------·
This mode is much less popular than the other two player mode, simply
because it makes the game much, much easier than it already is. However,
if you chose to go this route, then here are some simple hints that you
can follow.
Try to take one side of the screen and let your friend take the other.
If you kill the enemies right as they get out of the pipes, and kick
them, the levels will be over in a matter of a few seconds, the game
will be increadibly easy. Secondly, if for some reason, you see your
friend in trouble, save the POW blocks for those times. You will want
them to do the same.
·------------·
Man v. CPU
·------------·
This mode is quite simple, actually. Just wait at the platform in the
middle of the screen. If you are quick enough, you can kill every enemy
(except the last one of each level when it is a sidestepper). A simple
pattern of left - right - left - right emerges as the enemies come out
of the pipes, so be aware of that little fact as you play.
Note: For obtaining all of the bonus coins in the third level, you will
recieve 5 000 points, for all over bonus levels you will recieve
8 000 points.

Section 6.00 NOTES AND THANKS search.thank
·=============================================================================·
First off let me just say that a great deal of gratitude is expressed
towards all webmasters on the Internet that spend their priceless time and
hard earned money for the sole purpose of allowing people from all
different walks of life, come together and discuss and help each other with
video games. Without that time and that money, the video game industry
would be nowhere near what it is today. Thank You All.
Secondly, I must thank shoecream and his infinite wisdom. It is because of
him that this entire document is justified (except for a few lines).
