1. REVISION HISTORY

07/11/03: Out of boredom, decided to write this guide.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

2. HOW TO PLAY THE GAME

An evil wizard has kidnapped the lovely Princess Victoria! You are a Kung-Fu
Master, whose mastery of the art and the moves are your weapon of choice.
Your objective is to fight your way through five levels of the wizard's temple,
battling henchmen as well as strange creatures in your quest to rescue
Victoria!

(The TV Type and Difficulty Switches aren't used in this game.)

Use the Game Select switch to choose between one or two player games.  In
two player games, player one plays untill they lose a life, at which point
player two plays untill they lose a life, and so forth.

The Game Reset switch starts a new game or restarts the game from the
first floor if you press it mid-game.

You start each game with three lives.  If you are attacked by an enemy,
your energy (the bar beside 'PLAYER') will decrease.  It will also drain
slowly if an enemy grapples you.

You will lose one life if:
-You run out of energy
-The timer (the constantly decreasing number) expires

The game ends when you have no lives remaining.

CONTROLS:
Make sure you hold your joystick with the button in the upper-left corner.  If
you are playing on an Atari 7800 and/or using Pro-Line controllers, either
button will suffice when playing.

MOVEMENT:
Move Left/Right: Move joystick in respective direction
Jump: Move joystick upwards
Crouch: Pull joystick downwards

ATTACKING:
Punch: Move the joystick diagonally upwards and in the direction you wish to
punch and press the action button.

Kick: Move the joystick in the direction you wish to kick and press the
button.

Low Punch: Pull the joystick diagonally downwards and in the direction you
wish to throw a low punch and press the button.

Foot Sweep: Pull joystick downwards and press the button.

You can't attack while jumping.  (Sorry purists!)

DEFENDING:
If an enemy grabs you, move the joystick left and right repeatedly to shake
them off.  You won't earn points, but you will get rid of them.

ENEMIES:

Henchmen: Purple costume, most common enemy.  One hit should take care of them.

Knife Throwers: They're dressed in grey and have headbands.  Watch out for
their knives, as they can cause serious damage.  They require two hits to
defeat.

Midgets: The midgets are easy to recognize, since they're very small.  :)
Sometimes they will attempt a jump attack in which case they bounce off of your
head.  If timed right, a quick low punch might stop them in mid-jump, otherwise
perform a jump yourself to block them and earn points.

Snakes & Snake Baskets: Green baskets may drop from the ceiling.  If they do,
hit it quickly.  If it hits the ground, jump over the snake that emerges.

Dragons & Dragon Balls: Pink balls will sometimes drop from the ceiling.  If
you can, hit it before it hits the ground.  Otherwise, if the ball hits, a
dragon will form.  If you're quick enough, a punch or kick will eliminate it,
otherwise move away as fast as you can, since the fire breath can't be ducked!

Bombs: Bombs are red balls which will drop a slight distance from the ceiling
and then stop.  They will quickly explode, sending a projectile at you.  They
can't be destroyed, just walk off screen before they explode.

Poison Moths: These insects are just plain annoying.  A well timed kick or
punch should be enough to put them out of their misery! Or you can always
dodge them, but be warned, they will come back!

BOSS ENEMIES:

There are five 'boss' enemies, one on each floor.  Each one has a sneaky
tactic to eliminate you before you can do the same to them.  They are:

Floor 1: Fist Fighter

Floor 2: Boomerang Thrower

Floor 3: Giant Kicker

Floor 4: Lightning Magician

Floor 5: The Gang Leader

Their energy is indicated by the meter labeled 'ENEMY.'  As you hit
them, their energy decreases.  Once it is fully depleted, they are
defeated, and you can move on to the next floor.

3. LEVEL INFORMATION

FLOOR 1:

Floor 1 is pretty much a warm-up, as you'll generally encounter mostly
the henchmen of the evil wizard, with an occasional knife thrower.

At the end is the Fist Fighter.  This guy will attempt to punch you in the head
or in the stomach.  Your best bet is to run in, throw a couple of low punches,
and then retreat.  Repeat this untill the Fist Fighter is no more.  Another
method is to kneel just out of reach of his punches (though this doesn't always
work, you may still take some damage) and punch at his belly untill he's no
more!

FLOOR 2:

For the first half of Floor 2, you have to deal with bombs, snakes, and
dragons.  When you see the snake baskets and dragon balls drop, punch or kick
them, and if you see a bomb, run away fast.  The second half puts you up
against the standard henchmen and knife throwers, but this time you're
introduced to the midgets.  They may attempt a jumping attack, but they won't
untill they get close to you.  Jump if they jump and you'll block them.
Otherwise, a foot sweep takes them out.

You'll come across the Boomerang Thrower at the end of this level.  He's
tougher in the sense that he has a projectile weapon, but he always has
a pattern, he alternates between low and high throws, and the boomerangs
always return to him in a low manner, meaning that your best method of
attacking is to wait for him to throw his boomerang, dodge it, go in
and jab him, then jump over the boomerang as it returns.  If he's going
to throw high next, duck, and if he's going low, jump, then unload on him!

FLOOR 3:

Floor 3 has no surprises, just a bunch of henchmen and midgets, with some
knife throwers mixing it up to keep things amusing.  Try to conserve your
energy, as you'll need it for the Giant Kicker.

The Giant Kicker uses both powerful punches and kicks, but it's not too
hard to defeat him.  If you kneel just outside his kicking range, it's
possible to throw low punches at his bread basket, taking him out easily!
(Just like the Fist Fighter!)

FLOOR 4:

Why Floor 4 wasn't switched with Floor 5 is beyond me, as this floor is
tougher than the fifth one! For the first part, you'll have to deal with
poison moths, who are annoyingly difficult, and do a good deal of damage
to you! Try to defeat them before they reach the left side of the screen.
DON'T WALK THROUGH THEM! The damage they give is serious, and you'll need
as much health as you can get for the Lightning Magician!

The Lightning Magician is tough! His lightning bolts can cause serious
damage to you! The only way he can be defeated is by throwing low punches
to his stomach, any other attacks won't harm him.  Your best bet is to
wait for him to attack, then rush in and unload on him.  You'll take some
damage, but you should prevail!

FLOOR 5:

You've made it this far, Princess Victoria is counting on you to get her out
alive, and it's just you and the Gang Leader.  Of course, he's not going to
just step forward and let you fight him.  His henchmen are obviously guarding
him, along with the extra midgets and knife throwers.  Make sure you fight
well, as you'll need a lot of energy to defeat the Gang Leader.

The Gang Leader knows all of the maneuvers you do, and won't hesitate to use
them to knock you out! Wait for an opening, then hit him with a low punch
or a high kick to the face.  Use your skills wisely, watch him carefully,
and knock him out! After you've defeated him, you'll find the fair princess
(crudely drawn, but hey it's an Atari 2600 game!)

4. SCORING

You earn points depending on what kind of attack you use to knock out the
enemy.  Some enemies give you the same point value regardless of the attack
type.  The following is listed with the point values listed as Points From
Punch/Points From Kick:
(If only one value is shown, the value is the same for both types)

Henchman: 100 Points/200 Points
Knife Thrower: 500 Points/800 Points
Midget: 200 Points/300 Points (Also the same value for midair block I believe)
Dragon Ball/Snake Basket/Etc.: 2000 Points
Poison Moth: 500 Points/600 Points
Fist Fighter: 2000 Points
Boomerang Thrower: 3000 Points
Giant Kicker: 3000 Points
Lightning Magician: 5000 Points
Gang Leader: 10000 Points

When you complete a level, any time left is multiplied by 10 and added to your
score.  Any remaining energy is multiplied by 100 and added to your score as
well.

If you accumulate 75,000 points, you receive another life.  (I don't know if
this is cumulative or a one-time only thing.)

5. TIPS

-Beginners should take a moment to familiarize themselves with the somewhat
unusual controls.

-Don't rush into fights blindly.  Instead, watch your enemy carefully and
strike when it's safe.

-Many enemies have a weakness that can be exploited.

-This isn't an easy game, and not just because of the controls.  The enemies
are tough, and it can get frustrating at times.  Don't give up though!
Princess Victoria is counting on you!

-And last, but certainly never least, yet most important: HAVE FUN!

7. CREDITS

This guide was written by me, but it couldn't have been done without the help
of others:

-My mother, for playing Atari and passing her love for it onto me.
-Atari, for putting out the Atari 2600.
-Dan Kitchen at Activision, for his ability to port the arcade game into a
16K Atari 2600 cartridge.
-Jeff 'CJayC' Veasey, for such a great website where FAQ writers (like me!) can
post our work.
-AtariAge (www.atariage.com) for providing an archived version of the manual
for this game, which helped me a great deal when writing this guide.
-And, of course, lastly, but certainly never least, yet most importantly of all
in this section...You guessed it: YOU, for reading this guide!
