Introduction [ABC]

Welcome to the Ikari Warriors FAQ/Walkthrough. As far as I know, there's no
other guide for this particular game (or at least, the atari 2600 port of it)
on the internet, so I hope this one is helpful. If you notice any significantly
incorrect information in it, or anything about it particularly annoys you,
please let me know either through email or AIM. Also, if you're reading this
and it isn't credited to either Matt Sokol or Wlokos (or you paid for it), it's
been stolen. Let me know if that happens so that I can sort it out. Thanks.

Controls [XYZ]

Left moves you left, right moves you right, etc..

Hit fire to shoot a bullet. Hold it down to throw a gernade. You always
shoot/fire in whichever direction you're facing.

Walkthrough [BBC]

When the game begins, you will start out in front of your helicopter. Walk
forwards, and when you see a silver fort (or whatever that is), throw a gernade
at it to destroy it. Behind it, there's a soldier, so shoot him before he gets
the chance to shoot at you. If he does start shooting at you, your best bet is
to try to shoot him diagonally, becuase he'll be shooting too fast for you to
get a good shot otherwise.

Once he's dead, go forwards, and shoot the next two soldiers in your path. Try
to not let the screen move forwards once one soldier is on the screen, so that
the next one(s) don't also get on screen and start to shoot at you. It's
obviously easier to take down one soldier at a time than to have to deal with
two or more at once.

Now that you're past the first set of soldiers, keep moving forwards, but this
time stay on the left side of the screen. Stop when you see another silver
fort. This one shoots bullets at you, so dodge the fire by moving up a bit each
time it shoots, and shoot back at it with a gernade or two to take it down.
Once that's done, move up ahead again.

The next thing you see should be a blinking red square with some holes. That's
a tank. Walk into it to start using it. However, be careful. While you walk
towards it, another soldier will come into view. Kill him before you try to get
into the tank, or he'll probably shoot you before you make it inside.  If you
die while the tank is in the middle of the screen, it'll disappear, and you
really don't want that to happen.

Here's some quick info that you should have on the tank before we keep going:

-The tank has 99 fuel.  That fuel counts down to 0, and then it's gone, so try
to make as much progress as you can with the tank by moving as fast as
possible.

-The tank automatically throws gernades.  If you hold down fire, as you would
normally do for a gernade, the tank disappears.

-The Tank is much stronger than your normal guy, but it's not invincible. It
won't be hurt by soldier bullets, but if you run into a fort, it'll explode,
and other tanks can also take it down.

Once you're in the tank, proceed ahead. Destroy the fort when you get to it,
and then continue onward until you see the tank. Shoot it as fast as you can to
kill it, and it won't have a chance to hurt you. I'd suggest approaching it
from underneath, so before it's in view, be on the left side of the screen. As
soon as it dies, move upwards again, remembering to move fast for the sake of
getting the most use out of the tank.

Go through the gap in-between the two walls, and shoot at the helicopter. It'll
shoot back, but the bullets can't hurt you as long as you're still in the tank
(and you still should be), so just shoot upwards until it's hit. Once it is,
move forwards and do the same to the next helicopter. By now, your tank is
probably low on fuel.  When it hits 0, you'll die along with it, so hold fire
to exit the tank before it runs out.

Now that you're back to being on foot, continue ahead. When you see a soldier,
stop moving. As soon as it walks past the protection of the walls, shoot it.
If you're not fast enough, it'll get a shot off at you, and you'll die. Keep
moving, but be careful to not go too far. As soon as you see one soldier, stop,
and take him out. A second soldier is very close behind him, and you don't want
to deal with a 2v1 battle. Once the first one is dead, move on and kill the
next.

Just a little bit past that soldier, there's another helicopter. This time,
you're not in a tank, so it can and probably will kill you if you aren't
careful. Stay back, dodge the bullets, and shoot it with a gernade when the
oppurtunity arises. Up next is a gate that, if you touch, will kill you. Just
shoot a gernade at it to eliminate it, and do the same to the tank that is
waiting you for behind it. Use the same strategy as you did with the soldier
that was beyond the first set of walls; once it's in an area that you can
shoot, do so immediately. Afterwards, continue upwards yet again.

Next, you get to face three soldiers, one at a time.  Do what you've done in
the past: Make sure that only one is able to be on the screen at a time, shoot
diagonally, and try to be quick. After that's been accomplished, you'll notice
that the grass is replaced by water. There is no actual difference between
water and grass other than a different backround (well, a purely blue
backround).

Now you get to face off against more, slightly different looking soldiers.
However, there are a lot of more of these than there were of the other type.
Six of them are placed in a very small area. Rather than fight them all, I
suggest trying to run up the right side of the screen. You'll probably get by
most of them, if not all, unscatched. If you'd prefer to kill them all, just
keep using the same strategy. Either way, after you've gotten past/killed the
six soldiers, you'll get back onto more grass. The next enemy that you face is
a tank, so take it out with a diagonally thrown gernade (tanks can't shoot
diagonally).

Right behind the tank is another soldier (this is getting a bit repetitive,
isn't it?), so kill him too. After that, there's another one of those shooting
forts, so take it out with a quick diagonal gernade. Keep moving, and kill the
next enemies:  Tank, Fort, Soldier, Fort, Tank, Fort, with the stragies that
we've been using this whole time. After that, you'll find another tank that you
can ride, so get into it.

Now that you're back into a tank again, you need to start moving quickly.
You'll come up against both a soldier and a tank at the same time, so take out
the soldier first (the bullets can't hurt you, so he's easier to deal with).
After that, kill the tank when it isn't shooting at you. There's another two
tanks up ahead, so shoot them too. Continue upwards, ignoring the two soldiers
that you'll pass (or run over), and stop when you reach the helicopter. Stay in
the middle of the two walls and keep shooting until it's hit, and then quickly
get the [s] in the middle of the road before your tank runs out of fuel. That's
a fuel refill, so you can keep going with the tank if you were quick enough.

Kill the next helicopter in the same way that you killed the first one. Kill
the next soldier, tank, and helicopter (nothing's changed, keep using the same
strategies as always..). After that helicopter, you should probably get out of
your tank, since it should be almost out of fuel. Throw a gernade at the gate
in front of you, and advance further yet again.

There's another person, tank and fort. Take them out (the fort won't shoot at
you) and...  There are more tanks and soldiers ahead. There's not much more
that I can tell you to do at this point, really. The next thing of note (just
keep using the same strats), is when you see another [s] item.  This time, you
obviously can't still have the tank. However, get it anyway, and it'll refill
all of your ammo and gernades. Though you probably haven't had much ammo
trouble, on the off chance that you haven't died and are getting low, it's
useful.

And, from there onwards, you'll face more and more of the same enemies, though
they'll start to become closer together and you'll start to notice your ammo
running out a bit more than before. Keep moving, and keep using all of the same
strategies that's we've been using. It would be pointless to write another few
pages worth of 'Kill the tank, kill the soldier, kill the helicopter'...
Eventually, however, you'll reach a very large device with a guy standing in
the middle of it. Shoot a gernade at it, and it'll explode..  And you'll go
back to fighting more soldiers, tanks and helicopters.  Yeah, a bit
anti-climactic.

Actually, the game has restarted. You're back at the beginning of your journey,
though with less lives and more points. This time, everything shoots faster and
a bit more often, which makes it harder. However, they're all in the same
places as before. Go back to the beginning of the guide if you want to beat it
all again, otherwise, congratulations! You've beaten Ikari Warriors! That's no
small feat, this is a very tough game.

Enemies/Items [CBC]

Soldier: The most basic of all enemies. He walks around and shoots at you. He
can't hurt you at all when you're in a tank.

Fort: These things sometimes shoot at you, but not always. Either way, it takes
a gernade to kill them. If you touch one, you die, even if you're in a tank.

Tank: Not the one you ride in, the ones that try to kill you. They shoot at
you, but can't shoot diagonally. The bullets don't hurt you if you're in your
own tank, but if they touch you, you still die.

Helicopter: They move left to right and shoot at you. The bullets won't hurt
your tank, but the helicopter itself will.

Item Tank: You can get in and ride for a while! The Tank is much stronger than
you normally are, and only shoots gernades. It can't shoot diagonally, though,
and if you're still in it when it runs out of fuel, you die.

Refuel/Ammo Refill:  It's the letter S. I'm not sure what it stands for, but it
refills your fuel if you're in a tank, and your ammo otherwise.

Credits/Legal Stuff

To be honest, I have nobody to thank but myself. I'm awesome. I came up with
guide completely on my own, not using any source of information other than the
game itself. Still, thanks to the FAQ boards at GameFAQs for getting me started
with FAQing, and thanks to CJayC for keeping GameFAQs running.

Legally, all I care about is that you don't charge someone else for this guide.
I don't want people paying for it when they can access for free at GameFAQs and
possibly elsewhere. Of course, you can't take credit for writing it either, so
credit me if you upload it on a site. Other than that, do whatever you want.
