Why do we still need Gopher? Episode 421

I have not even checked if there are any entries about that, but I belive there are, more or less recent. Though this is just my view.

One just could ask: Hey, but why not to use simple HTML aka smolNet? My answer is simple: I am tempted and easily boring. I cannot stand being "good human" without imposing self-restrictions. If I would have to run HTTP website, I would try to throw bunch of stuff to satisfy my vain and convince myself that I do something for real. Gopher limits me to text only. My goal is to pluck out words into the void. Should I need something else? I do not, but having more possibilities is tempting. "Oh, maybe I will format this such way? And I will add background? No, this one is awful. And those 88x31 buttons, I really like them." Those are really nice thing, but deteriorate me from what I really should do. Many people say that they can really easily control themselves, but not me. Gopher is good, i adheres to "less is more", because one can focus on writing, not thigs around it.

Here would arise another question? "So why not to write that to notepad?" Very reasonable question which I would need to think through. Until now, I need Gopher. Maybe you need it too, because it can allow you to do one thing correctly. Is restricting itself good or bad? I believe that we all should restrict ourselves to be able to say "My body does not reign over me."
