Hello World!

----------------------------------------

As is obvious according to the phlog directory, this is the oldest post. I'm not sure quite what I'll talk about here just yet, but you can expect that I'll have something to talk about on a regular basis, seeing as I never shut up.

Anyway, some justifications for the decisions made here, in FAQ form.

Q: Why use tildeverse for a personal site?
A: This is much more useful as a personal musings platform than something like tumblr, and its interface is more appealing to me than something like wordpress or blogspot. The immediate disadvantages I can think of would be: a lack of a comments system and being harder to find. Comments are unnecessary: if you'd like to write to me, I am available at the address [email protected] for contact, and if you'd like me to include you in a responses roundup to answer some question or comment you may have, please include "RESPONSE TO: DD/MM/YYYY", where DD is the day of the month the post was made on, MM is the month the post was made on, and YYYY is the year the post was made on. If the subject line contains that snippet, I will respond to the email with a link to the responses post when one is made. I will not publish anything that violates the tilde.institute Code of Conduct, available at https://tilde.institute/coc , for obvious reasons. If the email is not intended to be included in a responses post or it violate
s tilde.institute's coc, I will email you my direct reply. Being harder to find is not inherently a bad thing, and there's nothing stopping me from linking to here from my twitter or elsewhere.

Q: Why phlogging/ gopher?
A: Phlogging (blogging using the gopher protocol) is not by any means a common phenomenon, but I feel like it is the best one for my purposes. I fully intend to exclusively convey my thoughts through text, so it's well-suited to gopher. I'm also not familiar with using gopher, and writing with it regularly would definitely help in that regard. Its main disadvantage is its obscurity, and since there are sites that translate gopher to http (gopher.floodgap.com being one of them) it doesn't actually reduce accessibility, since I can link to that on the http version of my site.

Cheers,
