I have enjoyed using *nix systems for many years. I am excited
about the possibility of collaborating on a minipubnix (I am at
SDF with the same username, now). I am a former community health
worker and academic who retired early due to illness
(Parkinson's). Things take a little more time to learn and do
these days.
In another life, I was an electronics technician in the US Navy. I
married an Australian nurse a number of decades ago and we settled
in Melbourne, Victoria.
I'm a fan of the <<FrontPorch Republic>>, especially their
commitment to people and local places. This place in "space" seems
a digital analog.
My goal is to learn how to set up and administer an openBSD-based
micropubnix as a way of staying connected to other communities
that I am a part of in the larger world who have yet to discover
this way of working together. At some point, this will be the most
appropriate way for me to stay connected.
One of my major concerns in life is to help people overcome the
<<Device Paradigm>> as Albert Borgmann has outlined the issues. I
always think of H.G. Wells and the <<Time Machine>>.
Durtal is a literary allusion connected to the writings of J.-K.
Huysmans.
