One of my computer affectations is that I like text mode logins. There
is something about a simple "login:" prompt still feels cool and
hacker-y after so many years. All of my computers are set up to boot
into a text-mode login that will then drop me into a shell. I usually
start up a graphical environment from that shell, but I still enjoy
this old-fashioned ritual.
