I pulled my Pentium 200mmx Covid pandemic computer out
of the basement with local databases, encyclopedias and lots
of backups. This computer hadn't been turned on since the
end of the "Great Reset" and was designed as a "doomsday"
computer. In the event of a full-scale destruction of civilization
by globalists, this computer would serve as an endless source
of knowledge. Fortunately, it is no longer in demand. But
I noticed my phone book in the Zoc32 terminal. There were
over a hundred BBSs. Almost none of them work anymore.
What happened in these two years? Where did all these BBSs
go?
The simplest answer is that when the state house arrest of the
"great reset" ended, people returned to their daily lives,
abandoning BBS. But this is only at first glance. You can talk
a lot about how BBS and FTN technology is obsolete. But so
are radio, television, newspapers, by the same logic. But we
do not see such a decline in these areas as in the FTN and
BBS sphere. So something happened that we simply
overlooked. Here I will try to outline the reasons why BBS
today resembles a graveyard, from my point of view.
1) Most BBSes are completely empty and do not contain any
valuable information;
2) Most BBSes provide connection services to the identical
FTN networks. In other words, any BBS has the same
content;
3) In FTN networks, anyone can use your nickname and write
on your behalf from another BBS station;
4) BBSes have restrictions and limits for all new users;
5) Each BBS requires separate registration and password.
Moreover, some BBSes have a very strict moderation system;
6) Many SysOps are sick with teenage elitism, considering
themselves to be the only correct representatives of some "elite
counterculture" that everyone is obliged to worship;
7) The vast majority of information from FTNs and BBSes
can be found in HTTPs without any problems;
8) FTNs and BBSes are dominated by left-wing communist
ideology known as "woke";
9) In many FTN networks, a maximum of 3-4 people
communicate with each other and it is difficult for a newbie
to understand what they are talking about;
10) BBS administrators cannot clearly explain to "new people"
what is the best way to connect to Telnet from Smartphone
or old operating systems;
11) The exceptional inconvenience of interfaces and the
complexity of elementary actions causes extreme inconvenience
and irritates new visitors;
12) The dominance of the globalist idea called "retro
computing". In other words, many BBS owners perceive their
BBS as just an exotic toy;
13) Almost everywhere the same type of BBS engines with
the same templates are used;
In my opinion, these BBS problems have caused a new
decline in this technology of human communication.
