It's been awhile since I used the eeepc 701. It still does OK.
Running antix v19.2 x86. It hasn't been updated in awhile, but
I will probably do that when I connect to the network. I forgot
that I don't like the keyboard on this device. It's cramped and
I keep hitting the wrong keys. Also, not much light here. I've
been spoiled by illuminated keyboards.
The speaker repurposing from my last post was a success! I ended
up crimping a mix of terminal and Posi-lock connectors to some
speaker wires so I wouldn't have to solder anything. Yeah, I'm
lazy and I could use the practice. Another time.
The results are better than anticipated! The speakers are
m-audio av40 and they have served me well for many, many years.
I now have them unpowered and plugged into a rackmount pyle p3201bt
preamplifier receiver thingy. I also have a salvaged subwoofer
attached as well. The setup sounds so much better than when the
av40s were working properly.
During my sound check, I came across this site, which taught me
some things about sounds and audio equipment. [1] It has a bunch
of online sound tests and information about the different tests.
Very useful. I'll probably use it again to test out other audio
equipment. | |
The repurposing had me thinking of other stuff that needed to be
done. I decided that I would work on adding patches to my vest.
I have this version 1 scott e-vest that has been in the closet
not being used much since I stopped riding motor scooters many
years ago. A scott e-vest is basically a gadget vest that has all
of these pockets and conduits to run cables through. This was
before wireless and bluetooth were popular so gadgets were plugged
into each other. It kinda reminds of the vests that fishermen use
for their gear. | |
When I used to ride, I would go on these bike rallies and add
patches from the events to my vest if they had them. Back then,
I just got patch glue from the craft store and just glued them
on, thinking that I would want to repurpose the patches in the
future. Well, the future is now and I am keeping them on the
same vest. The patches are still on the vest but the glue has
totally dried out and some of the sides and corners of the patches
have come undone. | |
This round, I decided to apply some black thermoplastic adhesive
to the patches where they detached. I also added 4 additional
patches that I have been meaning to add, especially the
embroidered SDF patch, as well as an Open Source Initiative patch,
Team Losi patch, and my Raspberry Pi merit badge. [2],[3],[4]
After the patches were on I used my wife's iron (shh, don't tell
her!) and pressed all of the patches on both sides over an old
tshirt. Hopefully this will help further fuse the thermoplastic
adhesive and the legacy patch glue into the fabric of the vest.
I'm still on the fence about sewing the patches to the vest, cuz
laziness,ya know? So far, the adhesive is good enough, as it was
when I put on the old ones. I should get a Home Economics Sewing
badge! | |
