I am confronted with office work that I don't want to do but needs to
get done. I had to trick myself into doing it by getting out of the
house with my office work with the reward of coffee and pastry. I
had to put that down just to bring me to the here and now.
Now I will start. See you after the jump.

OK, the work is done and I have not been able to get back to this
until the next day. I hate how I sometimes have to do things in a
round-about way to get things done. It would have supposedly taken
less time to just do these things at home, but things don't usually
work out that way due to distractions, like being at home is a big
mess of distractions. I know myself well enough to get myself out
of there to focus. It just seems like a silly piece of wiring.
Since it is almost the end of Q1-2023 (so fast!) I think I need to
regroup and retool the way I do things with my regular PIM system
(calendaring, tasks, contacts, notes, syncing, etc.) The way I have
been doing things is falling apart and tasks keep falling through
the cracks. This whole processs of how I do and don't things seems
to be a never-ending (de)evolution cycle. I have yet to find a
perfect system that meets my needs, but maybe that idea is
unrealistic since my life is always in a state of flux and constantly
(de)evolving. Perhaps a perfect system would exist if my life were
static and I lived in a vacuum. That sounds pretty dead to me.
The problem I have is that there are too many options and too many
things I have tried in the past. It takes me some time to get
acclimated to a different way of doing things and many times it
leaves me with a half-baked workflow with parts falling off the
plane while I am trying to build it in the air. This eventually
takes me to the point of just winging everything and ending up in
miserable survival mode, which is so ineffectual and resource
intensive. | |
I have gone back to analog before and went back to a paper
day-runner style planner. This worked fine when I was in college,
but does not fit my needs these days.
I think what seemed to work best for me and was the most sustainable
at that time was when Palm PDA devices were actively in production.
The system was really good for me and I was totally on board with
keeping all of my stuff on that system, especially since it was
off-line. These days it is challenging to keep those devices
integrated with the current systems I use.
That's the thing about the tools I have been using these days. I
don't trust them especially the online tools even if they are
local or self-hosted. Since I don't trust them, I cannot bring
myself to be totally on board with them. Perhaps I need to custom
build my own set of PIM tools...if I had the time and skillz.
Perhaps the distrust thing is something I need to revisit.
Perhaps the more appropriate question I should be focusing on would
be, "what system(s) or tool(s) would best accommodate and integrate
all of the various hats I currently wear in my life, given my current
concerns with data privacy and security?" I'll have to sit for awhile
on that one. | |
