| The Wandering Geek phosted about "Gopher Annoyances"[1] on 20210417 | |
| and has some interesting comments regarding authoring gopher phosts. | |
| It had me thinking about how I format my phosts and the organization | |
| of my gopherhole. | |
| For my gopherhole, I generally stick to 69 characters for the width, | |
| cuz "69, dude!" Also, that seems the most comfortable for my viewing. | |
| I have a generic template for my phosts and I use my top and bottom | |
| horizontal lines for loose visual guides. | |
| There is no automation or scripting for my gopherhole. My content | |
| is basically manual. Perhaps because that is what I am used to. | |
| Even my web site[2] is done manually in vim and actually looks very | |
| much like my gopherhole. | |
| I have tried Pocket Gopher client on Android and it seems wrong to | |
| me. Especially touching the screen. I prefer to view gopher from | |
| the terminal, usually with lynx, like the Wandering Geek. I have | |
| tried bombadillo for both gopher and gemini, but it took me awhile | |
| to get used to navigation. Also, in gemini some of the sites I try | |
| to visit via CAPCOM or SPACEWALK have certificate or access issues | |
| and I cannot access them in bombadillo so I load them up in a gemini | |
| web proxy, which seems kinda silly to me. I think the proxy just | |
| ignores the errors or something and displays the content. Even | |
| loading gopherholes via the Floodgap's web proxy in a GUI browser | |
| seems odd to me. I guess I just want my gopher/gemini text in the | |
| terminal. | |
| So for now, I have pretty much defaulted back to lynx as my main | |
| client for text browsing. No issues with gopher and I can view | |
| gemini in lynx via the gemini to web proxy hosted at portal.mozz.us | |
| and stay in the lynx client. I usually use the Project Gemini | |
| Capsule[3] over at cirucumlunar.space for my gemini exploration | |
| launching point. Maybe I will find something better, but for now, | |
| lynx seems to be the path of least resistance. | |
