Silver bullets | |

At work I'm very conscious of the inexistence of silver bullets.
There isn't a single piece of infra-structure which will solve
everyone's demand. Not because people aren't willing to invest tim
trying to build such a solution, but due to the diverse nature of
use-cases around the company.
Yet, I keep finding myself searching for a single silver bullet to
solve my personal computing needs. For example, trying to get
everything done on a single machine, running a single operating
system, on a single online platform. When I become disappointed wi
the current silver bullet of the month, I move to a different lapt
or OS, or platform, rinse and repeat. In a month I'll be disappoin
again and move back. | |
Finding a place in between extremes, using more platforms, more OS
more machines, will probably solve all my needs, with the addition
cost of complexity. | |
The cost of moving so often between solutions has become higher th
the complexity cost. I won't be satisfied at a single place - this
the mantra for the next time disappointment comes around. |
