Introduction to Linux Systems Administration

This text is based on a Linux Administration course I taught as a s
at the Oulu Lyseo high school. The content of this English translat
mostly the same as the taught material, albeit with references to t
cific system configuration in use at the Lyseo removed.
This course originally came to be over 20 years ago, when the stude
admin club was established in 1993. I do not know who wrote the o
material for the course, but I suspect some influence of it rema
the present text. I express my gratitude especially to Juho Rinta-P
who prepared the previous version of the course material that some
of this text are based on as well as Riku Karvonen for his assistan
ing my time as the benevolent dictator of the sysadmin club.
In general this course attempts to provide a general look into Linu
ministration. The text does not really form a complete course, a
original course included recitation sections and exercises. Howe
hope this text is at least somewhat useful as a broad introduction
the topic.
