(Disease, pepperwood and rats)
May 19, 2020
I can't complain about my life, in the spectrum of possible human
existence it's pretty great, but I will complain anyway. Last week was
rough, I'm not sure what the deal was, but I had some sort of low grade
illness happening. So I probably spent 3 out of the 5 days mostly staring
at my monitor and spacing out, drinking tea, and getting paid in-full for
it.
I felt much better during the weekend, so I rallied to take on a couple of
projects on the homestead. I cleaned out a rat infested shed. The two big
brown menaces scurried frantically looking for a hiding place while I held
a shovel at the ready to bludgeon them. Alas, I couldn't get a clear shot
at either of them, so I setup some traps and took a very long shower. It's
for the best, as much as I want a rat dead, I feel pretty conflicted after
committing the violent act by hand.
I also chipped branches from several California Bay trees I felled over
the past few months. They kicked up a powerful dust that caused any
exposed skin to itch. The dust managed to get past my mask and had my nose
running. I smelled bay and smelled like bay for days after.
All in all the week was miserable, but good.
