(Micro)wattOS: A linux distro with i3
Sunday Jul 9 7:14:39 2017
Whenever I either update or upgrade my 12 year-old laptop *aelita*
(See: http://chals.sdfeu.org/profile/#naming_convention) I get in
trouble. The system usually breaks for some reason. It's been the
case for some years so it was no surprise.
This time I upgraded from jessie to stretch and the cpu was
constantly between 80% and 100% the system ran so slowly that it wa
barely usable.
I came across wattOS --> http://planetwatt.com/new/ A linux distro
based on Ubuntu which releases a micro edition called microwatt whi
features i3 as default window manager. The download page is at:
microwatt
I tried the live cd and it worked great so I decided to install it.
On a side note, it also works great on my eeepc 701 which is awesom
So I guess I will end up installing it on the eeepc too.
I have been a debian user for many years now and also of the i3 wm.
I usually installed the debian base system plus an x-server and i3.
I know the drill by heart, I have done it on a dozen occasions, but
this time I couln't resist the easiness at hands reach.
The version I installed is R10. It was released almost a year ago:
http://planetwatt.com/new/index.php/2016/09/01/wattos-r10-released/
but it is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS which means support until 2021.
What else can I ask for?
