| If your neighbor or your friend has something you really like in | |
| their yard or garden, there's nothing wrong with asking if they'd | |
| be willing to let you collect seeds or cuttings! Do keep in mind | |
| that getting a plant to grow from these seeds or cuttings isn't as | |
| easy as buying a plant from a nursery - growing from seed isn't as | |
| fast as transplanting, and taking cuttings requires a bit of skill. | |
| Still, I think it's worth it - it's fun, and you learn more about | |
| the plant by propagating it yourself! | |
| Growing Native Plants From Seed | |
| Vegetative propagation: I'm not very familiar with taking cuttings | |
| (I like growing plants from seeds, myself). Taking cuttings does | |
| require more skill than growing a plant from seed, but it offers | |
| two advantages: it is faster than growing from seed, and the | |
| plants produced are all identical to the mother plant. This makes | |
| it a particularly useful technique for mass plantings. Check out | |
| some books on horticulture if you'd like to learn to , or visit the | |
