Portugal: Day ]|[

My sleep is still messed up.  I went to bed at 3AM and was wide
awake at 5AM.  I could not go back to sleep so I got up and took a
walk by the beach.

It has been a long time since I have seen the Atlantic Ocean.  First
time from this side of the pond.

Today we went on a Tuk-Tuk Food Tour in Lisboa.  A tuk-tuk is a
3-wheeled, motorized vehicle used for public transportation in some
countries and seats several passengers.  The one we rode in was
electric.

We started off in Praça dos Restauradores and our first stop was at a
shop that made pastel de nata (egg custard tart) near Largo do Barão
de Quintela.  These pastries are the bomb!  I was able to have 2 with
2 shots of espresso.  A++++ Would eat again!!!

Next stop was for gelato at a shop near Terminal de Cruzeiros de Lisboa.
I had 1/2 a scoop of coffee gelato.  Quite tasty, but I shouldn't eat
too much since I had 2 pastel de nata.

We walked to the next stop, a winery, which was down the street from
the gelato place.  When we walked in, there was an old guy slicing the
meat off of a pig leg with attached hoof, that was impaled on a spit.
Kinda made me gag to see how the fancy lunchables are prepared.  I did
not partake.

The next stop I think was near Praça dos Restauradores again for Ginjinha,
which is a Portuguese liqueur made from sour cherries.  I heard it tasted
like cough syrup.  Again, I did not partake.

The last stop was for lunch at Praia no Parque in Parque Eduardo VII.
Again, lots of food and lots of drink.  Too much to enjoy after the food
tour, but the food was still over the top.

After lunch, it was back to the room for a nap.  I skipped out on the
evening's activities to get some me time and go exploring.  My wife went
on THe Company's outing.

My evening had me walking along the shore on the bike/pedestrian path.
I ended up by the marina, in the tourist section of Cascais, where they
have all these shops and restaurants.  I met some English-speaking
expats in that area and had dinner with them at one of the local
restaurants.  Pretty relaxing evening with new local friends.  The
temperature was also cooler in the evening with the wind coming off the
ocean.  I should have brought my jacket but it wasn't so bad since I
was walking.  I even went further and walked by Casino Estoril, which was
the inspiration for the James Bond Casino Royale story.  I logged over 20K
steps by the end of the day.
