Sometimes I wonder if all the paranoia about the surveillance
machine is sort of useless, since the people who might use this
system are so completely incompetent. I think the only "active"
benefit they are getting from the system is that it keeps people
in line. As long as a few people are hauled in from time to time
the rest will believe in the all seeing eye, the invisible hand
and all the other magical beings occupying the top of the pyramid.
As long as you keep mostly harmless, you are safe.
This is sort of a trap, though. No one is clean enough that they
could survive a doxing executed by the system. If you are selected
and your online history is pulled up, all the aliases you didn't
even remember you had, how are you going to fare?
This sort of weapon has a stifling influence
even if never used. You can be incompetent and enjoy
its shadow.
