So, it seems that my first entry has been forced on me. I have
been playing around with the gopher for a while now, but I didn't
feel like publishing it as a phlog yet. But fate has decided
otherwise: For whatever reason a test phlog ended up on the
official phlog listing, and it seems I can't remove it,
so I guess I will have to correct the situation by putting
an actual phlog post there.

       So here it is then.

I had actually written several posts already but not published
them. They were written with a specific tone and had a sort of
continuity in them. But I had not thought them good enough for
the official release.

Oh, well. I suppose I wasn't happy with their style anyway.
I might as well go with babble. So,

I am not sure how I found the gopher
a couple of months ago. It must have
been a side effect of one of my searches
for some or other tool. What I found
was pretty amazing. It never crossed
my mind that there might be a way back
to the early days of the internet.
In fact, I had never seen those days.
I came around in the end of the 90s
and I never was as geeky as I would
have liked to. I never really
understood what was going on. I didn't
even do IRC. I did do a lot of
       messaging boards, though.

Some twenty years passed and here I am
left behind by the progress in a way
I find surprising: It's not like before
when I was not savvy enough to figure
out what the tools do. Now I can't
       figure the socio-politico-corporate
       megastructrure that has somehow come
out of the internet that was all fun
       back in the days.

This structure was intruding upon me
in so many ways, it basically paralyzed
me. Only after the fact I have come
to realize the effects. I basically stopped
       interacting through the internet.
Which is very strange since it had been
a big communication channel for me
       before.

So, finding gopherspace is really like
a breath of fresh air. It even feels
like when I am reading phlogs here
time slows down or something. There is
a certain peace about this media.
Maybe it comes from the text form?
There is no scanning around the page to
find what you are looking for. There are
no colors. It is somewhat stoic.

I am looking forward to a pleasant stay.
