Validated. But moving shells has tripped me up for now. I guess I'll get used to it.
Why does lynx no longer show colors? It looks so drab now.
UPDATE: Problem solved. Future readers, check your $TERM. Mine was vt100, changing it
to xterm fixed the issue. Thanks to ja for the help.

I'm here, for better or for worse (for better). Although I love computers, I find
myself utterly intimidated when I'm around other nerds. I always feel like I don't
know anything, or that asking a stupid question will let on that I don't deserve my
job or degree. I know on some level this is just silly, since I always take great
care to make people who ask me questions not feel dumb.
I learn a lot from spending so much time online, even if what I'm reading has no real
"value." You learn about new words, slang, and social mores. You learn what people
think is normal and what they think is weird. Not everyone spends so much time
reading the same things I do, so I always try to withhold judgement when I think
something is "obvious" that someone happens to not know. I hope, but don't expect,
that others do the same.
Anyways I'm here, and I have issues. I've only used one shell before, and I don't
even think I'm confident that I know what makes them different. I have experience
using command-line interfaces but that doesn't make me feel confident I can even run
the programs that I need to run. I would say my life is hard, but if these are my big
dilemmas then I consider myself doing just fine.

Someone asked me today if I liked all the snow we've been having. I had to admit that
I do. I love the snow, it makes me feel less guilty if I don't go outside for a long
time. But I also love going outside into the snow. Especially at night, when it's
dead quiet. My last apartment had me five minutes away from a big park with a couple
streams running through it. I would fill up my thermos with hot chocolate and head
out at 2am just to sit and be alone out there. I don't live alone anymore, and I miss
it. But I don't hate my current situation, it's just different.
I also love the summer. As much as I love the indoors, I'm a fan of the outdoors. But
I have a lot of thoughts on this, and I'll save it for a future post when I feel
ready to be impassioned again.
