My health informed me that I need a standing desk, at least
some of the time. I thought about it and responded, "I'll
get one from Amazon."

"That will be fine, I'll help you." my health respectfully
replied. Together we searched for the right desk. One huge
issue with the search is the tiny amount of space that I
have availble.

"Let's get one that goes on top of your current desk," my
health suggested. We looked around, and realized that my
current desk is tiny, to fit in my tiny space- I use tiny
in the United-Statian sense here, I honestly have plenty of
space for my *needs*, just not for gargantuan 'merican
furniture.

"What about this folding laptop-stand gizmo?" I proffered.

"I don't know, let's look at the reviews." Thankfully, my
health is quite fastidious. The reviews were mixed. The
customer-posted pictures and videos were not impressive. It
may not suit our needs.

"Let's skip it." I proposed. "But, you said we'd get
something from Amazon!" my health protested in a fit,
obviously feeling that its needs were about to be shelved.
I considered my health's feelings for a few moments, as well
as my promise (my health always views the words "I will" or
even "I'll" as a promise) to get something from Amazon, and
came up with a solution.

"Wait here," I said. I left my health in my bedroom-office
and went out to the garage. Blocking most of the garage door
is a stack of cardboard boxes waiting to be recycled.
Looking at the pile, I was glad I left my health behind,
otherwise my health would have chided me about how breaking
down and moving all those boxes might be good for it.

I rummaged about and selected two Amazon boxes of matching
size. Withdrawing to the house, I sought out a roll of
packing tape, fixed the boxes up and secured them together,
then returned to my desk where my health was patiently
waiting.

"Here you go, a standing desk from Amazon."

I unplugged the laptop and set it aside while I positioned
the boxes. My health looked on the proceedings with an air
of dubiety, but said nothing til I was through.

"So, that's it then?" it questioned, suspiciously.

"Sure. It meets all of the requirements, and we didn't even
have to wait for shipping! And, as a bonus, I *reduced* the
pile in the garage, rather than adding to it!"

My health gave me a knowing look at my mention of the pile
in the garage, but let it slide in light of finishing our
current conversation.

"Ok, fine, let's try it out."

And here we are, trying it out together. It's not bad, for a
free cardboard desk. the height is, surprisingly, spot on.
The width is a little short of covering the base of the
laptop, but that might be a good thing for the vents that
are on the left-side/bottom. There is nowhere for my mouse,
but I bet I could fashion something if the trackpad fails
me. My external hdd has to sit in an odd spot as well, but
it's working and doesn't seem too much at-risk.

I'd give it four stars. My health said, "we'll see."

An aside:

Ok, so now user snowcrash[1] AND user xiled[2] are doing the
cool mood thing in their gopher header. Xiled has the
awesome note about the machine they wrote on, things they
see and hear, etc. It really makes me want to spruce up my
header!
