   Technology/Window Managers, (sdf.org), 12/31/2018
------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know why I enjoy fiddling with window managers so
much, but I do. In the past year or two I tried out some of
the tiling and/or dynamic window managers which I enjoyed
far more than I would have guessed (they have, in fact,
ruined me for compositing and stacking window managers.)
Spectrwm was my first, and over the past week or two I've
decided to try out i3 (because it's there.)

"Yet another review" would add nothing to the world, and
so I'll simply state that I've enjoyed i3 about as much as I
enjoyed spectrwm. The config was easy, and daily use is
pleasant. Layout isn't quite the same as spectrwm, but it's
not hard to achieve the same results either.

Next, I think I'll try out dwm from the suckless folks. For
no apparent reason, I'm a bit obsessed about resource usage,
and I have a gut feeling that dwm will beat both spectrwm
and i3 handily. It requires recompiling for config changes,
but I'm not opposed to that, and I'm excited about the 2k
lines of code.

Who knows what the "settled daily driver" will be, if I ever
settle at all. For now, I'm still having fun playing with
window managers after all these years.
